I always recommend this office does anyone looking for a new eye doctor. The office has always been very welcoming very knowledgeable and explain things so well. On my last visit I must've been on an off day because when I picked up my prescription it was off . They just scheduled me to come in and looked at the glasses and did another exam. I was taking care of and I really appreciate it the professionalism and kindness. read more

I was very clear when I booked my appointment what type of frames I was looking for. Book the eye exam and deal with the horrible traffic and parking to find out they don't have very many frames to pick from. Eye doctor and technician were absolutely amazing front desk and glasses side need training. Waited for a month and half and now have to go find frames. Very disappointed! read more

They were fast, very nice and I absolutely loved the optometrist I saw. Haven't had to get any glasses though so not sure what other processes look like. My eye appointment was great. read more

Alex provided awful customer service. He asked me to wait politely for a while and didn't once say thank you after I responded. Additionally, he did not use my pronouns. His tone displayed his mood. I cannot recall the lady's name. However, I contacted my insurance company, and this agency is covered under it. read more

I had a wonderful experience here getting my eyes checked and looking my at possible frame options. I was able to get an appointment quickly and easily and processing my insurance was zero hassle. I appreciated how inclusive their intake form was. The aide who did the initial portion of the exam and the doctor herself were both so great. I appreciate how they took their time and patiently answered all of my questions and heard my concerns. The doctor was so thorough with her exam, and explained everything to me, I left feeling truly comforted and assured of my eye health. The optician who helped me look at frames was friendly and picked out amazing choices for me. I wasn't able to buy right then due to needing to leave town before a turn around time, but I look forward to returning to give them my business. Highly recommended. Best experience I've ever had at the eye doctors. read more

I felt that this was a clean and good location for optometry, if I were in the area still I'd visit and have them repair the glasses I bought through them. I got a pair of glasses, which were originally sunglasses, but I asked them to convert them into regular glasses for me. I do love them but one of the screws came loose a few weeks ago and the whole pair of glasses (half of it) basically fell apart - the lens came out and the ear piece came off as well. I have the pieces still but not willing to drive from SF to Sac for this I was a bit annoyed with their business hours and next time would try and find a optometrist that had more hours available Thankfully my insurance covered pretty much everything except $100 ish difference I paid for the glasses I wanted, not bad for a once a year visit read more

I've been coming here for about a year now and picked this place based off the location and the conveniency of only working a few blocks away from it. They are located on the right hand side of J Street next to the 800J Lofts. I came in yesterday to pick up my new prescription glasses and I love them! I ordered them a week and a half ago and they came earlier than expected! I am never disappointed when I come in and I just think Dr. Swanson is great! Her staff is great too! They are always friendly, patient and supportive at every appointment. I never feel rushed when I'm trying to decide on a pair of glasses since it is an investment, I like to take my time. Just want to point out that when I came in yesterday, their office was decorated for Halloween and it looked so stinking cute! I love when businesses make their offices feel inviting and welcoming! They validate parking too! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Swanson for many years. Her knowledge, patience and advice are spot on. I love the variety/selection of eyewear available for purchase and that it is a mix of classic, modern and fun styles! There is something for everyone. Her office recently moved to East Sacramento and it is conveniently located. Her staff is friendly and knowledgeable as well. Beky, Marissa and the team work well to make you feel comfortable and welcome. All in all always a great experience. read more

Beautiful location, great selection of glasses, and Dr Swanson is super kind and patient and great at explaining all things eye health! Front desk is easily reachable too. The only downside is no access to your electronic health record (like at UC Davis eye center) but still way better availability and accessibility! Will be returning annually. read more

The doctor was great. Everything else wasn't. I came in for new glasses and the exam went well. I ordered my glasses and was surprised by the out of pocket cost, considering the fact that I have good insurance. But I paid and waited for my glasses to arrive. I had to call the office to verify that my glasses were in. When I tried on the new glasses, I told the staff person that everything was blurry, I could not read the small poster across the room. She said to give it a week, in case my eyes just needed to adjust. Guess what? They did not adjust. They got worse. I went to a different eye doctor who informed me that my lenses had been ground improperly and that is why I was having problems. Twice. I will be taking my business elsewhere from now on. read more

Other than the street that it's on, I love this place. I haven't been able to find a dr. who can give me a good prescription for a while and I found it here. I've been coming here for a while so this is overdue, but today I had a really wonderful experience and it prompted me to write this. They have always had wonderful customer service at the front, but today Marissa went above and beyond helping me get my contacts early for an event this weekend. I ran out and have had such a hectic week with moving, I forgot to re-order. I needed to pick up contacts before my flight and she so generously helped me by bringing my contacts to my car so I didn't have to find parking (I also had my dog with me so it was so helpful). It was so kind of her to offer and I made my flight! Thank you again! read more

Eyes On J Optometry - Eye exam - Optometrists Near Me - Sacramento, California

The service is excellent. Everyone was kind and helpful. The doctor explained my eyesight in clear, concise details. Their pricing was very straightforward, and all fees were explained to me. I went in for an eye exam and a pair of glasses. I was very happy with their service and price. I would definitely recommend this business! read more

I was unhappy with my eye doctor, so was looking for a change. I tried Eyes On J because they are a small, woman-owned business and conveniently located for me. Everyone was friendly and knowledgeable, Dr. Swanson was very thorough and answered all my questions patiently. My glasses arrived in 3 weeks with good communication. I highly recommend. read more

Doctor was great and knows her stuff - with that said the quality of the glasses themselves is cheap & it makes absolutely no sense to have issues with your glasses within 6 months of purchase. I find it ridiculous I paid so much for glasses that I already had to put tape on to keep on my face. They also don't accommodate weekends and basically wash their hands of you and will send you elsewhere. It's not even the going elsewhere it's the - I spent my money here so now that my glasses are missing a screw they don't want to help fix the situation. Again the doctor great work she knows what she's doing but not worth spending over $100 dollars on cheap glasses that can't stand you the average 2 years. read more

If you have anxiety or a reading disability this is the optometrist for you! I have never been treated so well, and I left with such a feeling of joy (and not only because I found some great looking new frames). I am dyslexic and eye tests are a huge struggle for me as I can not tell what the letters are when they have no context, in the past this disability has caused a lot of anxiety and awkwardness when it comes to this test however this time was not the case! The optometrist when hearing of my difficulties worked to find ways to make the tests less stressful for me (ex: singling out letters, using color cues instead of asking left or right). I honestly wanted to cry because it meant so much to me and I have never experienced these tests as anything but embarrassing and akward. I look forward to going in the future and could not recommend more. read more

I had a layover in Sacramento for 17 hrs and was looking for a pair of Acuvue oasys to last me till my box came in seeing as I wasn't aware that I was on my last pair when I removed them. I looked up eye care places near me and Eyes on J was one of the first to pop up on the list. I called asking if they could help me out with a pair of contacts and Marissa didn't hesitate. She asked me a few questions and was able to find me a sample pair immediately. When I walked in it was complete smooth sailing. The hospitality and friendly faces meant everything to me for someone who was just visiting.Thank you Marissa and Eyes on J for helping me see clearly I really appreciate it! read more

I had my eye exam else where and came here to order my glasses. I placed my order on April 22nd. When I placed the order, the employee said in 2-3 weeks and it will be ready. A month later, I decide to call them and to find out they had it in. Salt in the wound, I get a text AFTER I have got my glasses. read more

Eyes On J Optometry - Terrible service and notification is late - Optometrists Near Me - Sacramento, California

I have been coming to see Dr. Swanson for years and I can't believe I'm just now leaving a review. Dr. Swanson is the best of the best!!! Her staff are just as great - excellent customer services!! have severe allergies in my eyes and always having issues living in Sacramento. My primary doctor never seems to help or prescribe the right medication for my issues. Dr. Swanson really listens to your issues and has never let me down. Always a happy girl leaving her office. Typically my issues are fixed that day or the next day. With COVID temporary closing Eyes on J, I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to get the services I normally do. I had an urgent issue, called the line and Dr. Swanson called me back within 30 minutes. Sent over some pictures of my eyes and she was able to help me with recovering. I really can't say thank you enough to her and her team. If you are in need of an optometrist, please call Eyes on J! read more

Dr. Swanson and her team are truly amazing and deliver stellar customer service consistently. I will never go to another optometrist for as long as I live in Sacramento. read more

My family has purchased multiple pairs of glasses between us and while the doctor is great the rest of it is extremely disorganized. The first time we purchased glasses I thought it took a long time at 3 weeks, but the wait time has become longer and longer each time. Recently we went in to get the arm on my daughter's glasses fixed because it was bent, no new lenses, just an arm. It took weeks to replace and even longer for them to bother to let us know that the glasses were ready. Two weeks in we called because we had not heard anything and the glasses were still not ready. We were told repeatedly that we would be notified as soon as they had them back. 1.5 weeks later we were told that yes they were in and had been waiting for us for days, but no one had contacted us. This whole time my daughter was going without glasses and they knew it. When my husband went in to get my daughter's glasses fixed he also was seen by the doctor and ordered glasses himself. Glasses, that were crazy expensive and more than we would have paid elsewhere considering we have great vision insurance. Now, 5 weeks later, his glasses are finally in. Totally unacceptable as they were not a complicated order by any means. No explanation was given and he was generally treated as if he was a problem for checking in each time he did. The parking is also an issue as the lot that they validate for is sometimes closed, like today, or full. Be prepared to try and find street parking downtown. Basically, the doctor is great, but none of the rest of it is worth it. That is unless you like inflated prices, driving around forever looking for parking, unhelpful staff that don't communicate well, and waiting over 5 weeks for your new glasses. I know that we won't be going back. read more

Dr. Swanson and her staff are very personable and professional. Dr. Swanson herself is probably the most attentive optometrist I've seen. Her staff are also very knowledgeable and will take the time to answer your questions. They follow social distancing guidelines as well. Appointments are easily made online. The office is really clean and aesthetically pleasing. In the past years, I've gone to multiple Optometrists but I think I'll stick with this one. read more

I've been going to Eyes on J for over 5 years and have zero complaints! I think Dr. Swanson is thorough and dedicated to providing the best care and customer service. Jessica, Fabiola, and Maria have always been great! The office and equipment have always been clean, modern, and comfortable. They have a decent selection of frames and I order a new pair every year. I only once had an issue with the frames and lenses (first time wearing prescription sunglasses) and they did everything they could to correct it. Parking is fine because they validate at a nearby garage and scheduling a convenient appointment has never been difficult. read more

Had another awesome experience @ eyes on J. I had sunglasses I couldn't wear because of a progressive Lenses issue. These were a big investment ($600) But due to busy life etc, I just failed to deal with the matter. Finally, because it was bugging me that I wasn't /couldn't wear the glasses , I took them in to the shop so I could get them fixed. TOTALLY My fault that TWO years had gone by! I fully expected to have to pay for the redo. Not only were the lenses fixed to my satisfaction in 2 days, but I was not charged!! Eric & Gloria ROCK. What a special and lovely business mentality. Made my day! Thank you!!!! read more

I ordered a pair of glasses two months ago and finally gave up on them providing them. The first 1 1/2 months the frames were on back order. I had to repeatedly call them to find this out. Later last week, they assured me they got the frames and sent them to get the lenses installed and would be ready This week. Today, I am told.the frames have been lost and they are reordering the frames. This optometrist us totally unreliable. Now lets see how long it will take them to refund my and my insurance company's money they already collected. read more

To start this review with a cheesy line... "These ladies are a sight for sore eyes!". I have had glasses since I was in the 5th grade, so I can say I know a thing or too about optometry. Eyes on J Optometry was a refreshing change to all my former eye doctors. Staff: Great group of ladies work here. They are some of the most helpful I have had in a long long time. They helped me pick out glasses that fit my face and my checkbook. They gave good, unbiased advice and set me up with frames that I have gotten complemented on day in and day out. They are not super name brand and not super expensive. They made sure I looked good leaving the office. Doctor: Doctor Swanson was very nice and knowledgeable. She answered all my question while treating me with great respect. Having your vision change every year can make you feel like a freak-show but she looked past that and saw my inner beauty. Technology: I need to give notice to the eye scan technology here. Instead of dialating your eyes, they have a machine that can scan your eyes so you and the doctor can take a look at your eyes inner health. Good thing about this is you have a visual record on file of how your eye looks. It's a great help when you wanna see how your eyes change from year to year. Notes: 1) They validate for parking which is great! FREE PARKING AT THE NEARBY STRUCTURE~!!! 2) Prices are comparable. You get what you pay for. If you want cheapy plastic frames go to lens crafters. I prefer quality and I'll pay for it. 3) The ladies that work here are all super gorgeous! I got my glasses done so I could finally get a good look at them. (too creepy? LOL) But the staff is great here and were very helpful. They also tune up your glasses if you bend them like I did. read more

Came in for glasses and contacts. The glasses experience was okay. Fabiola and Anne were snobby and rude but their co worker was helpful in aiding me in my search for frames. As for the contacts, I was given a trial pair. It was obvious it wasn't the right prescription from the start. After two weeks I went back in, was re evaluated and given another pair of trial contact lenses. After two weeks I went back in and needed yet ANOTHER PAIR of trial lenses. These were also wrong!! I ended up ordering the incorrect prescription because I was standing up in a wedding and wanted to go sans glasses. I will not be back...the staff is rude and the ophthalmologist couldn't even get my prescription right after 3 separate attempts. I've never had such an annoying eye doctor experience. read more

I had a great experience at Eyes on J. Dr. Swanson is fantastic! She spent a lot of time going over the results of my exams with me, and was very patient with all of my questions. Her advice about how to minimize eye strain has been spot on. I've honestly never been happier with an eye exam. They have a nice variety of frames at reasonable prices. I compared the frame selection at Styleyes before buying, since they get great reviews, and actually found more appealing options at Eyes on J. My impression was that Styleyes tends to carry frames that are very funky and very fashion forward. Eyes on J definitely has some of those, but I think they have a better selection of more classic--but still very current and very fashionable--styles. And the prices at Eyes on J were a little lower as well. The staff was very helpful and courteous as well. They didn't try to "sell" me on anything, and they were cool about writing out my prescription so I could shop around. Anyway, super happy with my Eyes on J experience! read more

When this office changed hands it lost the splendor it had before. My experience is much like Sarah's. The staff seems to always be trying to upsell me on their already expensive stuff, even though my insurance covers a VERY generous amount of coverage. Additionally, with the sharp contrast between the old Doctor and staff that was always cheery and bright and remembered my name, to the current staff that barely looks up at me when I am there. The lack of personal service becomes very blatant. Dr. Swanson is your average doctor, but when she started badmouthing former staff to me, I lost respect for this place and her. And the final drop in the bucket was when she offered me a 20% token discount for a major children's charity I was involved in, and yet three other eye doctors that did not know me offered their services and products without hesitation entirely for free. Too many negatives for me to continue at this office. read more

I don't usually go to the optometrist but this was an excellent example of how it should be. Everyone has great service, from the front desk lady to the optometrist. What I appreciate is that they take the time to explain everything, including what is covered and what you have to pay out of pocket for, why you would want it or not, and also, most importantly to me, what my results/images mean for my eye health. I wound up having slight eyesight impairment, but she also didn't try to get me to buy a pair of eyeglasses because she knew I didn't need it. They also schedule your next annual check-up in their system to send you a reminder but are clear you have flexibility, which I appreciate because life is hectic and I forget things like this. I appreciated all of these details. read more

Ok, I should have listened to Sarah S.' review or followed my gut and gone back to Lenscrafters in the mall, but I had a couple of other friends that had gone to this place, so I thought I'd take a chance. LIke Sarah's revew says, the staff is "nice", but when you've got to compete with places like lenscrafters or Costco, that just doesn't cut it because those places offer the same in customer service at cheaper prices and with better incentives. For example, lenscrafters has a 30-day guarantee... which I wish I had now, because I'm not totally in love with my new glasses. I also want to mention three things that cost this place an extra star for me: 1.) the hours are only Monday thru Friday, 9am to 5pm. I had to take time off work to go to the appointment and pick up my glasses. I work a half-hour out of town (that was my dumb decision). The hours alone will keep me from ever going back... 2.) I was told at my appointment early in the week that my glasses would be ready the next week. Since I broke my old glasses, I was really in need. I had to keep bugging them at the end of the following week about when the glasses might be ready. An earlier update from them would have been nice. 3.) When I finally did pick up my glasses, the girl that was helping me slightly adjusted the glasses but completely missed the part that hooks over the ear, so that they kept slipping forward and down. Again, I had to go into work late, so I could go in to get my glasses adjusted. That was frustrating! Why, didn't I just go to lenscrafters! read more

The ladies in this office are great. I had no complaints. I had an appointment w/ Dr. Van Winkle and she was very friendly. They had a great selection of frames and I received my glasses sooner than expected... and they are absolutely perfect! I'm very satsified w/ the service at Eyes on J! read more

What a rip off! First they sell me on different contacts because of the rebate. Well, when I go to pick up my contacts (they weren't in stock) they offered me an expired rebate. Then they called me 2 days later and tried to charge more for my order that I already paid for and picked up. Go to LensCrafters, at least they're honest. I only went here because they said they had a good rebate, but in the end, my contacts ended up costing me $50 more than LensCrafters would have. Stay away. I wish I had demanded my money back. To update on the rebate... They didn't give me the rebate until I picked up (and had already paid for my contacts).. and guess what? The rebate had expried in Feb 09! I have nothing nice to say about this place..... read more

Let me start of this review by saying I'm pretty high maintenance when it comes to my healthcare providers and the service I require at their offices. I want the front desk staff to be friendly, efficient and have an IQ higher than 10. I want the doc to be sharp and also have good bedside manner. I found all of these qualities met my expectations during my new patient visit, 3 office phone calls and subsequent eyeglasses fitting at Eyes On J. The front desk staff, both answering the phone and helping me in office were fantastic. I'm guessing it is a mix of good hiring practices, scripting, and just plain old good people skills. The asked my questions promptly, called me back to see if I wanted a sooner appointment when they had a cancellation, and even helped me to get order a pair of frames/lenses and get them 'rushed' so I could have them in hand for an upcoming trip out of state. The doctor was great, too. Just the right about of pleasure and good at what she did. I also appreciated the fact that every time I put my face into one of their machines they cleaned it thoroughly in front of me beforehand so I knew I wasn't putting my face into someone priors forehead/chin grease. Delightful! I wouldn't give a 5 star review if I hadn't had 6 different contacts (haha! PUN) with the office within a 2 week period and each lived up to my high standards. I am surprised to see a smattering of negative reviews because I can't imagine these bad experiences occurring with this staff and this doc. read more

Very friendly, comfortable place. I have had a good experience and been well taken care of every time I've gone. Unfortunately, I've been without insurance for a couple of years now. Today I took in an old pair of glasses, purchased from them, as well as a second pair, purchased elsewhere, which both had problems. They happily and quickly fixed them both for free. Never, ever, ever have I ever been so pleased with a visit to the optometrist. Let's start with the staff in the front. Super friendly. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by two or three people with smiles on their faces. Answered all my questions and helped me fill out the registration paperwork. Dr. Swanson was super nice and very knowledgeable. She was able to answer all of my questions in an easy to understand way and was very patient with me. She explained all the steps of the exam and made it a fun experience. One definite plus is that this office gives patients the choice to opt for Optomap Retinal Imaging, which takes a super detailed picture of your retina to help the doctor diagnose your eye health. No need to get dilated and walk around with not-so-stylish sunblinders, this process let's you get on with your day immediately. Speaking of style, the selection of eyewear in this office was amazing. So many wonderful brands and styles to choose from, in a variety of colors and sizes. I felt like I had my own personal shopper. One of the girls picked out 10-15 frames for me to try, based on my style and preferences. She helped me pick out a frame that was not only flattering, but super comfortable. I will most definitely be back. Best eye care experience EVER! read more

Yes, the frames are priced rather high, but they are of very high quality. One can always ask Dr. Swanson for a written prescription and purchase the glasses from a high volume store. What I admire about Dr. Swanson and staff is their stellar professionalism and expertise. Dr. Swanson detected the early signs of glaucoma in my eyes and literally saved my vision. She takes the experience far beyond a mere vision check. You will leave Dr. Swanson and Eyes on J assured that your eyes are healthy and your optical prescription will be accurate. read more
