I made an appointment in October. They let me know the day before the appointment that the doctor had an emergency and they had to cancel my appointment. I decided to make an appointment for November. They let me know when I came to the 9 am appointment (after I had already paid for parking) that the doctor was out sick. They said they left me a voicemail, but they strangely also sent an appointment confirmation at 7:23 am. I decided to just go elsewhere. To be fair, they offered to make me another appointment at one of their other offices the same day, but why would I drive out of my way to get my eye exam with someone who makes a habit of canceling last minute? read more

I was able to go back, get fitted for another pair of glasses and I was able to return the ones that were hurting. The people in the front office assumed my insurance was one company when I repeatedly told them it was a different one. Instead of taking time to research it they just move me forward with some old insurance information that I told them was not right . They assumed I was wrong and did not really care. At the end of the appointment I was told my insurance is not one they are associated with. WTF?! I wasted 2 hrs and time off work! Hire more competent front office staff. The staff here scratched my glasses when handling them during an eye appointment. These scratches were not on my glasses before the appointment and I wear them to work every single day. The scratches were large deep scratches (not minor surface level scratches) on the inside of the lenses and directly in the middle of my line of sight, causing everything to appear blurry. This renders the glasses completely useless. When I brought this to their attention, I was told that the ONLY resolution they could offer me was a FIFTEEN PERCENT DISCOUNT if I purchased a new pair of glasses from them. I am a physician, so I know the importance of honesty and integrity in medicine, and this response shows that this establishment completely lacks basic integrity. If they had integrity they would have replaced the lenses. They do not care about their patients and are only after your money. A sad excuse for a healthcare establishment and honestly an embarrassment to the optometrists that work here. Me and my family will never be returning to this business again and I recommend you stay away as well. Horrible customer service experience. read more

This is the first time that I felt relaxed at an optometrist's office. I have very poor eyesight, and it always seems to be changing, plus extreme sensitivity that makes it hard to have my eyes touched. Dr. Gallardo was very professional, personable, and very in tune to my needs. She took my concerns seriously and did some extra eye tests to make sure my eyes were healthy. I really liked her bedside manner, too. She kept asking me about my life and my interests. Office and staff are also top notch, and this carries into the folks that fit you for eyeglasses. Another plus is that this office carries Ray Ban eyeglasses and sunglasses. It's been tough to find a VSP carrier that does, so this is a huge plus for a brand snob like me. read more

For the past 10 years I have been seeing Dr. Sakamoto at this office. Sad to say, she retired this week, but I have confidence that the other optometrists will be as efficient, professional, and friendly. Dr. Sakamoto's recommendation that I was finally ready for cataract surgery resulted in life-changing procedures by Dr. Patricia Sierra, an opthalmological surgeon at another facility. Not only is Sacramento Optometric Group's office convenient, but you're never kept waiting. They offer many wonderful testing services to check for macular degeneration and map your eye health, with a fine selection of optical wear. The opticians are first-rate. read more

For the past 10 years I have never been lied to about an app that was given to me at a set time and for the first time in 10 years I was 5 mins late and was basically told "so what" we've been having computer glitches; totally a situation that is not my problem or fault. My appt was set for 12:30pm and I had four reminders starting at 8:00am up until the appt time which indicated my time at 12:30pm but I was adamantly told due to showing proof that I had to reschedule because their glitched system showed that my time was for 12:20. Let me say it is inappropriate for someone to argue with a patient on a cane who just showed up from their place of business just down the street ( literally walking distance) so what! So since I was treated with such disrespect, It was clearly shown that I needed to take my business elsewhere. The customer service really sucked at this office today!! ZERO STARS if I there was a choice: Front desk person was rude as usual- nothing new to report. I followed direction and waited outside for my appointment. Clearly the Front desk staff saw me standing outside and didn't even come to the door to let me know I was 5 minutes early or even a good morning wave- I think they were avoiding eye contact. They cancel your appointment if you're late but don't recognize an early patient- weird. I understand with the new procedures in place that everything is new for all of us however when it's hot outside at least acknowledge the patient and say they'll be there in a moment or at least smile and wave to ACKNOWLEDGE the patient standing outside. Finally, Optical whateversheis Sheryl came to the door- no greeting, no hello just swiftly opened the Front door and said "I need to take your temperature and oxygen level". I could have been Door Dash, she didn't ID me or ask what time my appointment is. After that mess, I was told to take a seat and I'd be fitted for frames. I felt very rushed and not welcomed. I was there not even 10 minutes and was told to select frames for another appointment and shown the exit door. I had an appointment to day and I was only ten minutes late and they refused to see me. I was very disappointed because if we're late they refused to see you but if the doctor is late that's ok. Sometimes I had to sit in the waiting room to wait and I have never complained. I have been going here for years and I am late just only once and they can't make an exception. Ya ya, the building is older, so what?! Sacramento has a whole portion of the city called Old Sac, people. The place is CLEAN, the staff is pulled together and very courteous, and Dr. Sakazaki was very timely, patient, and thorough... what more can you ask for? I have never seen an Optometrist for a contact lens fitting who patiently sat with me through multiple fittings as well as Dr. Sakazaki and his team. I don't have incredibly poor eyes, but I do have dry eyes and a demanding computer oriented desk job with a slight astigmatism all of which means contacts have practically been written off in the past. My other previous optometry office does not compare to the service and examination that I received here. The office is modern and comfortable. The front desk staff here are very friendly and professional. I was seen by Dr Sakamoto, who did a very detailed and thorough examination. She made sure I was updated with the progression of my vision . I went through several test which made me feel really assured that I was getting an accurate examination. She's very good and professional...was very impressed. The examination equipment used was very up to date and high quality. After my eye examination was completed, I received helpful assistance from staff with choosing my perfect sun glasses with prescription and type of lens...polarized lens, scratch resistance etc. They also offer plenty of frames, including designer brands Sacramento Optometric Group made me feel very welcome and made sure I had the best service. I've been seeing Dr. Takahashi for a few years now. I don't have vision problems, per se, but I can speak to his "bedside" manner. First off, the staff at the Sac Optometric Group is incredibly efficient. I've never waited very long for an appointment. There is some service they try to sell in the initial exam, but it's not horrible push. Dr. Takahashi moves through the eye exam quickly and efficiently. He's patient in listening to my concerns about my eyes (I have light sensitivity) and suggests several options to address my issues. He's also an incredibly interesting guy--I think he's in his 60's or 70's and has run many marathons (just in case you want a conversation starter). read more

This one star rating is based on the fact that nobody from their office contacted me for an appointment. I was in search for another optometrist since the one I've been going to for years has had a steady decline in customer service. I submitted a request online for an appointment, but after a week or so I didn't hear back. So I called their number and got an answering machine. Their message said they would get back to me in the next 24 hours. I left a message saying I'm a new patient and was requesting an appointment. It's been a couple of weeks already and no contact has been made. It's too bad they have poor customer service despite all their high reviews. I'm sure the optometrists here are great, but before you can get to them you have to go through their staff. I ended up making an appointment at another highly rated optometrist office and I couldn't be happier. They actually picked up the phone, talked to me, and was friendly and helpful. My husband and I have been going to the Sacramento Optometric Group for about 7 years. I have seen all of the doctors at this office and they are very knowledgeable, kind, and professional. They do a great job listening to your issues and addressing your concerns, especially Dr.Gallardo-Chang and Dr. Sakamoto. This office is also very knowledgeable about the insurance plans and how to best take advantage of cost savings when you have multiple insurance coverage. I also like that they send you an email reminder prior to your appointment. Also the eyewear and opticians office is right across the hall from the doctor office and they do a great job helping you find glasses that look good on you. I've been coming to this office for about 9 years. The office itself is small but they are set up not to waste time, so the office size doesn't matter! Everyone there is very nice and patient. They do follow up emails, calls, texts, etc... The Optometrists are great at explaining what they are doing and why and then they discuss the results in an easy to understand kind of way. They understand that your time is valuable so I can schedule my appointment during lunch hour and still have time to have lunch! I work on Capitol Mall, so finding an optometrist I can walk to from work was a huge bonus. The staff were all friendly and very professional. I didn't feel like I was getting pushed through like I have at the other offices I've been to. Dr. Gallardo was very patient and took the time to explain anything I had questions about. She also figured out that my last prescription was completely wrong (and I had only gotten my previous glasses a year before!). If you want contacts for the first time do not go here. When I first called to book my appt, I was offered many time slots that worked with my work schedule. Once I booked and arrived I was greeted immediately and checked in for my appt. I only had to wait 5 min past my appt time to start my vision tests which was great. When I saw the Dr, she was great, very attentive and seemed to care. I was told by the dr I needed to schedule an appt for contact fitting and another to actually order. I thought that was fine since I've never worn them before. Well when I went to schedule they said the next available appt was June 22. I was shocked. I'm thinking why would I have to wait 6 weeks for a contact fitting? She said I could go to another clinic if I wanted to get in sooner so I asked her for my prescription. She then said technically nothing was done with the contacts so I didn't need it but she would email it to me. I almost left but thought let me ask if another dr could see me. Well as the original receptionist that checked me in started looking at the schedule, the other receptionist walked in and asks what we were doing. I told her I asked if another dr had availability and said no. She said I had to follow through with the same dr. If nothing was done with the contact prescription and she felt comfortable enough to say i could go to another dr at a different clinic, why couldn't I just go there to see another dr? Why was she telling me to go to another clinic? She made me feel like I was not welcome. I think the dr is great but to not have any appt availability except for new patient and glasses makes no sense. If there really is no availability they need to work on that asap. I would have rather went to a different clinic from the start and not wasted my time with this clinic that supposedly has no appt for 6-7 weeks and made me feel uncomfortable. read more
