Really wanted to like this place. Made it a point to try this place out with the family while visiting Payson. Menu and beer list looked good, and I enjoyed my Mud Stout. They had a kids menu too, which was good for our group's two young toddlers. Our food took over a half hour to come out - including my bowl of chili, which I requested come out before my brisket sandwich. They got two of our orders wrong when they finally did come out (my daughter's kids' chicken tender and another member's chicken sandwich). It was somewhat of a process to get them corrected - one of them we didn't bother sending back in fear of having to wait another half hour. They did discount that meal, to their credit. To top things off, my wife was ill for the rest of the day after eating her chicken sandwich, which ruined a day of her trip unfortunately. We've checked this place off the list, but it won't be at the top of our list next time through town. read more

My boyfriend and I just finished a hike in strawberry pine & decided to stop for something to eat, so we came here! The hostess was very sweet & so was our server. The food we ordered was terrible... The prime rib in the Arizona Dip was not sliced as advertised but dry charred crumbled left-over bits . That Brewery is just at the entrance to Pine, so it's the first place on the left of SR87N (also known as the 260) when you're slowing down your speed to enter our town. There's plenty of parking outside in front of the restaurant, where there is one disabled parking space right in front of the entrance. I can't be sure because I haven't needed my wheelchair in a while, but if using one I believe the front patio entrance would be better, as it is near the Parking space and there are no real obstacles. The entrance door does have a low threshold with a low step, but I think it will be fine, maybe a little extra push needed to get inside. Once inside, the small-ish restaurant is on the left and the bar on the right; there isn't much space there but there's a second, smaller patio out back. The main feature is the large patio outside where you come in to from parking; it's nice all year round (I'm a lover of winter!) but in summer it can get quite busy. The staff is used to all the regulars being at the bar, and don't seem "thrilled" to have us 'outsiders' come in, but it may have been an off day for the staff; hopefully a next visit will be better. And maybe a smile? We have been coming here now and again for nine years when a local brew is needed. Growlers of their own produced beer are available to buy ( then back for a refill ) The restaurant itself is very minimal, some tables in a room that looks like a storage space, with a counter where things are put and seem to always be there stacked up. Honestly, dining inside is a sad experience, no ambiance at all. The food was not that great either, not awfully terrible; just nothing to talk about. They do have some great beers on order, lots of ales and seasonal flavors. I like wheat beers and theirs is quite good: an occasional growler is mine and mine alone back home in the fridge ;) For a roadside pub, with regulars/friends sitting there, it reminds me a bit of a small pub near my house back in the UK and nostalgia kicks in; sadly I can't see myself going in alone for a beer, like a gal can do in England. TERRIBLE food! Bad service! Several of us visited while traveling thru Pine. First of all with so many empty tables, why does "adding" a 5th chair to the end of a table meant for 4 people, make any sense? Sat down anyway to a overly crowded table. 2 of us asked for water and got them.. but no waters were brought for the other 3. weird Ordered green beans and wings yuk green beans were cold, ranch/wasabi dressing tasted nothing like wasabi nor ranch wings were semi cooked with mushy outsides and only 1/2 covered with sauce. asked for both ranch and blue cheese but only got ranch drinks were ok. beers, specialty margs. at one point, while waiting for meals, asked a younger staff girl for another glass of wine as our waitress was mia, got a snotty "you have to ask your waitress for that" now i completely understand that if she's not of age, she legally can't serve, HOWEVER...a polite "i'll send your waitress right over to take care of that" would have been the proper way to respond. Next our food came. Overall, we had a pretty mediocre experience. We were excited since it was so busy, as we assumed this indicated a great spot. The waitress and host we're friendly, who notified us of a slight wait. We waited for our food for over an hour after ordering. Luckily, we had drinks to fill our time. We enjoyed the cocktails and the price! When the food came, the brisket was overcooked and our orders weren't fully correct. The waitress fixed this and it seemed it was the kitchens error. Big selection of brews and the $9 flight of 6 is a great way to try them. The Arizona trail ale was a favorite, but all were good. We also had elk burgers which are handmade mixes of beef and elk. I added extra green chili on top plus gluten-free bread instead of the nice soft bun which my husband enjoyed. The skin on fries that came with the burgers were excellent and the sever will offer mayonnaise or dipping sauce such as beer cheese for your fries if you wish. The burgers come cooked medium well so if you want some pink in them, ask for medium. The atmosphere in the outdoor patio is great and our servers were very pleasant. read more

We had the nicest server and service at this pub, compared to other restaurants we've tried in the Pine area. Great brewery in Pine. There's a bar to the side if you want to sit there and eat/drink. The dining tables are in the back. Plenty of covered outdoor seating so it's comfortable all day. The food is always pretty good. Never had a bad meal there. I really like the atmosphere but to me, the beer selection isn't great. It doesn't seem like it rotates much. It's always the same IPAs (ugh!), lagers, porters, etc. They do have a seltzer that they brew which is a nice departure from the typical IPAs but I'd also love to see a sour or two on the beer list. I've always said beer tastes better in the mountains. I visited the Cottonwood location awhile back where they produce most of their beer. That Brewery was homegrown here in Pine, AZ in 2012 by Steve and Tamara Morken. These guys make a pretty good beer. This place is the perfect place for an outdoor enthusiast like myself. You just can't beat drinking a good craft beer with the mountains as your background. Lots of nature fanatics stop in here and always make for a fun laid back community. My favorite beers so far are the Arizona Trail Ale, Road Rash IPA, and Knotty Nut Brown Ale. The great thing about That brewery is that they make really good food as well as good beer. The food is so much better than typical bar food and it pairs well with their beers. I had their Elk Burger and it was fantastic. This location is nestled in the trees right off highway 87 and has a great outdoor patio area. The staff is pretty friendly too. If you can't make it up to Pine, That Brewery cans their beers and I've seen them in stores down in the Valley. read more

Its a busy and crowded 4th of july weekend in pine , but That Brewery answered the phone promptly for my family to make a to-go order . Food was absolutly fantastic , everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. Everything was ready perfectly on time and the staff were friendly and wonderful, thank you guys for an awesome dinner and experience . My husband and I are enjoying a nice weekend away from Phoenix to get some fresh air. We decided to drive 40 minutes out of our way to eat at That Brewery since we've grabbed a bite to eat there a few times prior and thoroughly enjoyed the ambience and food. We were greatly disappointed and realized the quality of food has gone downhill. As an appetizer, we ordered the cheese curds. The curds came out lacking the golden brown batter and were served almost white in color. We took a bite regardless of how they looked and quickly discovered the inside cheese was still cold. Our server was on it and quickly took them back to the kitchen to fry them. As she returned to the table with our curds, she stated, "this is how they are suppose to look." Just curious why the food runner didn't acknowledge that and continued to deliver the food? For my lunch entree, I ordered the two plate combo with ribs and a brat. The ribs unfortunately came out undercooked and you basically had to saw them apart with a knife. I mentioned the ribs were undercooked to the server, and again, she quickly searched for a remedy. Mind you, there were only two other tables in the restaurant. When the server returned she said, "The cook smoked the other batch too much." So she undercooked the second batch?? The experience was disheartening as my husband and I make it a special occasion to eat out (teachers in Phoenix). In conclusion, the manager took 25% off my meal. Unfortunately, my husband and I will not be eating here again. I am leaving two stars instead of one because of our server. read more

Food highlights: Baked Mac and Cheese with green chilies & bacon was delicious--gooey, spicy, and perfectly crispy bacon. Ultimate Bacon Grilled Cheese was classic comfort with a great balance of gooey cheese and crispy bacon. Elk Burgers didn't hit the mark this time; they were a bit drier and less flavorful than on past visits. We also sampled several beers: Backwoods Blonde - Light and refreshing, ideal for a casual lunch. Clearly That's Hazy IPA - Juicy, with hints of citrus and tropical fruit from Citra, Mosaic & Galaxy hops. Roadrash IPA - Balanced, with notes of grapefruit and a solid hoppy finish. Best pretzel I've ever had a brewery. Soft inside, buttery salty outside. Amazing beer cheese to go with it. The beef and elk chili was flavorful, bbq was juicy and cooked well. I really enjoyed that they came up with their own brews concoctions. I tried the pb&j, which is a mix of their strawberry blonde and nutty knotbrown. We spent two hours on the patio watching the world go by on 87. We met some regulars and had some laughs. The local brew is excellent. The Fossil Creek IPA is a great choice for day drinking. Our food was good too. I had the grilled cheese with bacon and green chile. I would eat it again in a heartbeat. The service was slow but we were not in a hurry. "That Brewery & Pub" was well worth my trip from Albuquerque. I was impressed by the staffs teamwork and the chefs cooking skills. Everyone pitched in to look after all their customers with a stress free attitude. I visited twice in two days and the food was excellent. On both days I was quite surprised on how fast the food arrived at my table. If my waitress was busy with other customers another team member would bring the food. I never met the chef but I could only imagine there was a stopwatch running on all his/her finished meals. They hustled! Oh by the way their craft beers were very good. My fav was the Monsoon Mud Stout My only change to the menu would be to place the bratwurst in the soft pretzel bun. That pretzel was buttery and delicious. Came back several years later, during Covid-19. We arrived at 2 PM on a Saturday and there was a 20 min wait. Part of that was due to the tables being spread out. I was surprised that the only other person wearing a mask was the hostess. Not the servers, bartenders nor the guests (of course). We decided to get it to-go. My wife got a cheeseburger and fries whilst I got the 2-meat BBQ, plus coleslaw. I chose brisket and ribs. We were promised 20 mins. Service was cautiously comfortable, if a tad slow. Our meal arrived in 30 mins. The burger and fries were very standard but the burger was a bit on the large side. I didn't taste it but my wife said: "Good". The fries were very good (I did steal some of those). The brisket was tender, not much of a smoke ring but seasoned well. My ribs were outstanding. The rub really did it. It was herby and zesty, but not hot. The sauce wasn't overbearing, just caramelized over the rub. They also included a small tub of sauce on the side. The coleslaw was okay, nothing to write home about. All told, it came to $44. read more

A great place to visit after the crazy road-rally that is 87 North to Payson. Bex, our server, was very kind and accommodating, and the Strawberry Blonde Shandy and the Brisket Sandwich were the perfect late-lunch combo. My wife ordered the wings with sauce on the side. The waitress said the brisket was really good so I took her word for it since she said they were known for it. Well....it took 30 minutes for the pretzel bites in which she kept checking on us wondering why we hadn't gotten them yet. The place was not busy mind you, so we were confused what was taking so long. Once we got them she apologized and said they were on the house. We appreciated that. This has to be one of the best places I've ever eaten at! Starting from the service everyone was so nice and the food was amazing everything was so fresh.
