My family and I hadn't been to the 80's bar in several years but thought it might be fun to have my daughter enjoy the evening with us since she has been on summer break from UCSD. From the time she entered the premise staff was unprofessional and rude. Despite the situations decided to make the best of the evening. All was going well until a waiter spilled 2 drinks on my husband's shirt. His entire right side was soaked. The waiter stated he made the manager aware of the situation . We thought the manager would come and talk to my husband but that never happened. Then there was an issue with my daughter and her friend. They were told they could leave since they were hungry and no food is served at the bar (what kind of bar does not serve food). The manager made a decision based on a ridiculous assumption. She stated that she was not sure how much alcohol they consumed off the premises (they only ate tacos). Honestly, both managers and security were unprofessional and NOT patron friendly. They have a huge chip on their shoulders. I left the premises to look for my daughter before I knew she went to eat and security saw me leave the front of the bar but I was not questioned when I returned. This leads me to believe the staff was taking advantage of their age (21 and 23). The manager did nothing about the spill on my husband's shirt. This has been the most unsatisfactory interaction with staff. The owner must not be concerned about his/her business and customer satisfaction. I will never return. I would not even give this establishment 1 star if I could. read more

The concept of this bar sounds good but its not really a spot for younger people. The ambiance is pretty dark and dull, and unless you go on a Thursday night there's a $20 cover charge at the door. Calling this place a dive bar is a stretch. Showed up to see Flock of Seagulls. Paid at the door and walked to the bar. Asked bartender how to get a table. Was told to talk to security. So I did that. They said first come first served sit at any open table. So I did while my girl bought us dumb named drinks with little to No alcohol. Anyway I sit at a table and the next thing I know some dude with a towel is yelling I need to move or leave. I tell Corky to kick rocks and he whines to some chick is who now yelling she's the manager. This place has no idea it's a service industry. I arrived 10 min before the band went on and there were about 40 people. This is probably because the staff is rude, the drinks are weak and expensive and the DJ thinks we actually think he is Mixing music and videos at the same time and has a "No Requests" sign. When I'm reality they are simply playing an 80s music video dvd over and over. This place sucks and you'll probably need a penicillin shot after visiting the butthole of Montclair. They staff was actively chasing away people who were trying to buy drinks so they could save tables for people who had already left or they claimed was dancing. Only again with the exception of the two drinks I purchased no one else bought anything because your wait staff, your managers or your security was being rude. And I'm not the only one to be writing reviews about you... just the latest. This place used to be fairly decent but as the years have passed... it's like everyone working there hates their life and wants the patrons to feel as miserable as the staff who has to say they work at an 80s bar by the old Sears on a dead end road by the rail road tracks. You guys might want to try and keep the few customers you have by not chasing the paying ones away! You're looking at $55 per person for a tiny speak easy that fits probably 25 ppl max. I was there with ten of my friends to celebrate my birthday on Saturday November 9th at 8:30. My bad experience started as soon as I got to door with the security guard sticking his whole hand and scrambling all my stuff in my bag- I asked him what are you looking for and he showed me a key that turned into a knife and said someone try to walk in with this. So I thought ok a bit extreme to just enter a club it felt more like you were going into a jail. If it's that unsafe that you have to treat people in their 50s in that manner let us know so we can go spend our money elsewhere. It was almost closing time the prince show had ended my cousin and I wanted to walk my younger cousin to her car to make sure she got there safe and the security stopped us at the door and started power tripping no in and outs I told him our intentions and he insisted no I and outs. Wow thank you security. He was rude so sad since he's the first person you come in contact with. I will be going elsewhere for 80's music. Definitely don't recommend this place. read more

Ok I was very skeptical of this place bc of the area it is located in (very sketchy and scary area) but the inside was a huge surprise. I actually had so much fun and the drinks were really good! I love 80s music and I appreciated that this place actually only played 80s. I've been to other "80s clubs" and there is like 0 music from that era. They lose a star at the cover, $15 is a bit steep for a place like this but I still paid it lol according to the security, it's free on Thursdays so I'll check it out then. Yes, as previous reviewers mentioned, there is the smell of urine, yes the floors are filthy, yes they don't serve food, and yes it's in kinda of a sketchy neighborhood BUT... The music was AWESOME! The dancing was AWESOME! The $15 cover charge seemed fair, get there early for best seating! The security was just right! My server Nicole was spot on! Ok, first this is a total dive, BUT it's everything you're looking for in an 80s bar!! Decor and video screens are all 80s! Music is GREAT! They play all genres of 80s to please everyone's music taste! If you were the cha-cha girl, you'll get your fill of Exposé, Cover Girls, etc. If you were the breakdancer, you'll get your Melle Mel, George Clinton, etc. If you were the KROQer, you'll get your Duran Duran, Oingo Boingo, etc. They are playing it all and everyone is enjoying it and Dancing the night away! Waiters are friendly attentive. Bathrooms are clean and regularly attended to. This bar is right off Holt and across the street from the Indoor Swap Meet, but don't be dismayed because the crowd you find here are just good people dancing, reliving their earlier years! One of best places I've visited. As someone who loves 80s music and was in the mood to hear some awesome music while enjoying an evening out with friends , that 80s bar seemed ideal. Arrived a little before 10 on a Friday, the crowd wasn't too packed. I forgot of the option of cover charge ($10, affordable) and was just about to search for an atm, bouncer informed me that they conveniently have one inside. They suggested our party to get a table since the night was still underway. I made a B- line for the bar and while heading back to the table , my friend said a water had came by . Rarely do I ever see a waiter take a prompt trip to help out new arrivals, way to take initiative . $6 Shock tops and $20 punchbowls are perfect ! Highly recommend the Love Boat Punch bowl. Perfect for sharing ! Over the night the music was amazing -playing all the classics from Duran duran, depeche mode, eurythmics, the cure. And then... So I am not a huge fan of 80's music, but I had a friend who was celebrating his birthday at this location. I had shown up around 8:30-9pm and had to call my friend out because they were only accepting cash for the entry fee. I don't carry cash around and am weary of 3rd party type ATM machines. I believe the cover charge was $10. My guess is because it was a Saturday night, but I don't think a live band was even there that night. We had a few tables but there were a ton of people that would try to take over our table or our seats anytime someone would leave. Our drinks were well made, we had someone that would come around and take our drink orders which was awesome. It is a very.. different crowd at this club/bar. I had a great time, the dance floor is on the smaller scale & it got crowded quick. I had only stayed for a few hours. I was more worried about my car being across the street in a lot that is designated for this bar. My friend assured me that there is security scanning the lot to make sure there isn't any trouble but I had walked out to my car to leave and I didn't notice any security.. only the bouncers. Was out with friends last night 12/23/23 2 of my friends happen to be gay (this is for context) and we were all just having a good time dancing singing drinking what not when a security guard went up to my 2 friends and escorted them outside basically telling them that their presence was making people uncomfortable. That if they didn't tone it down they would have to leave.. tone what down exactly ?? We were all just enjoying the music and ourselves it just so happens to be that my friend and their partner were acting like a couple AS ANY OTHER couple would but just because they were gay it was a problem?!! This terrible experience tainted the night for my friends and the manager was no help either. Being treated like that is not ok and this establishment should be ashamed by their behavior. Sadly our high school reunion did not do a sufficient job of taking us back to the 80s, so after the event we headed over to That 80s Bar for a quick fix. When we arrived, a great sounding band was finishing up their set and then a DJ took over. What I enjoyed: the music, the dancing, tables/stools to sit and rest, price of drinks, and my refreshing adult beverage--a Daisy Duke Martini. What I did not enjoy: small cramped ladies room, drunk woman who almost puked on me in said small cramped ladies room, people who parked themselves on the dance floor to chat, music videos on TV screens that did not match music played by DJ, patrons dressed as very bad Madonna impersonators, and the lights turned on. They really need to turn down the lights or better yet turn them off so you are not forced to see what people look like. Dim lighting and darkness is flattering to everyone. It also helps to create an element of surprise. Then at the end of the night, when you close down the club, and they turn on the lights--Sooprise! ! ! read more

Love it here. This was my 3rd time coming and management idk if they are the new owners I give them 2 thumbs up for the service they give us outsiders. I have been meaning to try this place out for a while and glad I finally did. I was a little wary considering all the reviews complaining about customer service and I had nothing but great customer service while I was there. My only complaints would be the website and pages for business don't really give a lot of info as far as cover charge and times of live music. The cover charge when I went was $15 and cash only at entrance. The show also started way later than I thought at 11pm and I arrived a little after 8 as recommended. I will say I'm glad I showed up early though because I got a table with no problem and it got more crowded as it got closer to the show. All of people working there were very friendly and welcoming. The ambiance was great, I really enjoyed the dj and the fishbowl drink was awesome as well. The fishbowl drinks are $25 but I think it's well worth it because it could easily last you your whole visit. The patrons were an eclectic crowd which I always appreciate as it feels very welcoming.
