This is a cute family-owned and authentic Thai food truck everyone should check out! It can be a bit hard to find, but it's just behind the gas station. I walked up and spoke to the mother. I asked her what she recommended and she suggested the Drunken Noodles if I don't want something too sweet. She said their Thai food is traditional and unlike the sweeter, Americanized Thai food restaurants- good to know! The Yummy Wings were delicious and crispy on the outside, but juicy on the inside. However, the price for them at $10 for 5 is pretty steep. The Drunken Noodles, a reasonable price, had a nice flavor to them, were decently priced, and I got level 2/5 for spice, which I thought was perfect for me. I would definitely go back! read more

I unfortunately see what this place went out of business for a few years. I just figured it was because it's hard to maintain a food truck with so many brick and mortars nearby. However; I called around 6 to see when they closed, whomever answered the phone actually seemed a little annoyed by the question; but I choked it up to them thinking it was a stupid question since the website does say they close at 9. Anyhow,I think placed my order around 7:50 when I got home and Waited the amount of time I was told AND arrived maybe 4 minutes later just in case. Stood outside of the window trying to peak my head in so they could see me. The lady saw me approaching and looked directly at me. I stood there longer and she was about to stand up and just sat back down. The person working the grill never turned around; but I could see them chuckle from behind. I walked over from my apartment sick as a dog. The girl asked whether I wanted stir fry, noodles, or rice and I told her I was sick and I just wanted to feel better. She said her mom would make me a lemongrass soup that is intended to heal sickness. She told me her mom would make it from scratch in five to ten minutes. A short wait and the kind ladies of Thai Thani made me a spicy lemongrass soup with chicken, rice, peppers, basil, and more. The broth was healing--perfect for my sick day. It was like having one of those special "feel-better-mom-hugs" in soup form. It hit the spot and changed my day. It felt even more special because they made it for me. I cannot wait to go back to this food truck. They make everything from scratch. The mom told me she preps all the ingredients each morning. Cash only. Call ahead or order there. Closed Monday. Recently opened again at a new location. I've traveled to Thailand w/locals from a village just outside of Surin, they took me to several dive spots where tourists often don't set foot, so I know what authentic Thai food is supposed to taste like. I can assure you that THIS is the closest you are going to get without taking a 20+ hour flight to the country itself. ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE FOOD! Definitely the best & most authentic Thai food I have tasted in the United States, everything is made from scratch. Do yourself a favor & check this place out if you want to know what HOME COOKED Thai food is supposed to taste like. I highly recommend the Basil Beef, Ginger Chicken, any of the Curries, and the Tom Yum Soup. However, do not skip the Yummy Wings either, they are amazing! For the most part, they can make your dish as spicy as you need it to be, but remember this is authentic Thai cuisine, so you may want to start off nice & easy until you know exactly what you are getting into. You spice-heads are going to love it, and this is true comfort food, especially if someone needs to warm up in the cold weather! Keep in mind that it is usually HOT in Thailand, so it's not as if cold weather is required. Treat yourself and try the Thai Iced Tea, as it is inexpensive and not overly sweet like some other places. Location is quite convenient, on Manor Road, close to campus and downtown. There is plenty of seating in the dinning area outside. Prices are very reasonable as the tax is included in the menu price. Many might be surprised at how healthy the meals are, and the soup can actually make you feel better if you are ill. If authentic representation of real Thai food is what you are are looking for, you truly cannot pass up Thai Thani. Don't let the fact that this is a food truck fool you into thinking service is quick. It took our order 40 MINUTES from the time we ordered to the time it was done. During our long wait, the owner pulls up and drops off his wife to help. Well, we ordered at 12:25 pm. It was lunch time. You think they would plan for lunchtime schedule. Food was alright. So wonderful!! What a great addition to Manor St and the Cherrywood neighborhood. After a five year hiatus, the folks who own Thai Thani are back with all kinds of wonderful new recipes - and of course all the classic favorites. My wife and I ordered the beef/rice plate, which had tons of ginger, just the right amount of spiciness, and a bit of mint. The portions were quite large. We also got the Yummy Wings, which were as good or better than anything you'll find at BWW for sure! We also got a sample of a breaded + fried banana... very TX, very good. Everything was perfectly cooked. I loved that the owners serve food on non-disposable plates, so as to minimize waste. They were also so kind to us... came out to check on the taste and experience. Thai Thani is back! I was a huge fan before it's hiatus and the other day I drove by and saw that it had re-opened and was ecstatic! It's hard to find a good Thai place in Austin so Thai Thani's return was much needed. Everything is made fresh to order. My favorite is the Tom Kha. I am going to preface this review with I CAN NOT EAT SPICY FOOD... so I don't normally eat Thai, so you may not care about my opinion. I walked up to the trailer and asked about the curries, if they were spicy.. The nice young man smiled and told me no ( I find that same thing happens when I go for Indian food as well... MY spicy and THEIR spicy are VERY different!) But I have terrible reflux and am prone to ulcers and gastritis... so I really can't do spicy. The woman of the trailer heard our interaction and had me try the curry sauces first.. and of course WAY too spicy for me.. because I AM A WIMP. I'm sure they're perfectly fine for normal people. SO... she recommended I try their special for the day, a coconut milk soup. Not spicy at all. let's do it. She went on to say it had mushrooms... I thought I didn't flinch (I hate mushrooms too, but I didn't want to be an even bigger pain in the ace.) but, she must've seen me, because she said, 'you don't like mushrooms?' No... Ok, so she asked if I wanted some cabbage and broccoli in it instead. YES PLEASE. So basically.. she made me my own special soup, NOT SPICY with some rice, and you know what IT WAS DELICIOUS. Great place, sweet little lady running the truck. But at $8 a meal, I expected the box to be heavier. Pretty disappointing because the pad Thai was good, it just wasn't filling for the price. Barely enough for a one person portion. The "free" egg roll won't do much damage when you're haangryyy. Also, know your Thai spice--a 4 is pretty damn hot. I love spicy food, LOVE. But at a 4/5 spicy on the drunken noodles, I had to pause several times during my meal to find something, anything to cool my tongue. Will I come back? Probably after I try every other Thai place in the area. Again, the problem was just the price to portions. Their truck will be opened until the 15th of August. I am a Thai food junkie, so I was super excited to see that little yellow truck parked just a few blocks from where I work. I've had the pad thai (SUPER yummy) and the green curry so far, and both were distinct and delicious. The curry didn't have so much heat to blow out your tongue...just enough to make your mouth water. This is as close to authentic Thai street food as I've yet to find in Austin. Great prices, and fresh, clean flavors. Their menu is limited, but I think that's great. I like that they concentrate on cooking their 15 or so dishes to perfection. The food is great, and that's enough to keep me coming back for more - but the owners are just utterly amazing. They are neighborhood locals, and they care so much about our lovely Manor Rd businesses. Thai Thani is a family business, and the entire family is as friendly and kind as you could hope to meet. I worked late tonight, and even though it was after their closing, they still made me my yummy curry - PLUS, 2 more people arrived after me, and they happily sated everyone's Thai craving. Even though they had been slammed all day, they didn't seem tired or cranky...they must really love what they do. You can totally tell. Hey! I've just moved back to the East side and wanted to check out a few of the newer food trailers and restaurants that have arrived since I headed out South. The third place I've checked out and my first to review is Thai Thani! This cute lil' trailer is located on Manor Rd. just a few blocks west of Vortex Theater. I only had the Chicken Pad Thai on this visit but I will be returning (definitely looking forward to their Drunken Noodles and their CHICKEN WINGS! I'm a fiend for both!) The sauce was simply divine and just the right amount of it made for a positive start to what turned out to be a delicious - and quite filling - meal. This wonderful sauce was mildly sweet, aromatic, flavorful. I can still taste it. Hours later. "But how?", you ask? Because I'm eating the leftovers right now, you fool! Succulent, perfectly cooked chunks of tasty chicken melted in my mouth! Fresh bean sprouts (would've liked more, should've asked), micro chopped peanuts that mixed easily in with the other ingredients once stirred, a nice, juicy lime wedge, good rice noodles = Excellent Pad Thai! Lol! Why am I laughing? Because tasty food tickles! Why are you smiling? Because you know I'm right! And YO! When I got home I realized that the nice folks at Thai Thani put a tasty egg roll in my to-go bag! Score! THANK YOU! Great service, caring, friendly staff, delicious food, very inexpensive, expansive menu, located close to home, open til 10pm, on Sunday? Awesome. Oh yea... and... yes... THEY. HAVE. CHICKEN. WINGS. As an anomaly in the world Thai cuisine in the city of Austin, Thai Thani cranks out some of the more affordable grub in town. The dishes are all right at $7. The selection is fairly limited, and everything sounds pretty much the same, but the fact that they are pumping out curries galore from a mobile eatery on Manor is pretty admirable. The mother and daughter that are the head honchos of this here bright yellow truck have done stints at the prestigious Thai Kitchen, so they certainly know what they are doing. But, I honestly think Thai fare is one of the more "dough machine" institutions in the United States. Consider it this way: a to-go order provides you a pint of curry and a scoop of rice. The cost that goes into this surely sits under $1. A 700% turnaround? Yeah... Thai folk know how to run a business. That being said, my yellow curry was acceptable. It was a little bland, but I did very much appreciate the extra kick of heat that they provided me--after I asked for it. The yellow soup-like dish offered potatoes, a few bell pepper chunks, and spice. And beef. The beef was a little chewy--I have come to the conclusion that Thai cooks can't make stewed beef tender! All in all, pretty straightforward. But straightforward is just something that I cannot get over when I indulge in the cuisine of the East, specifically, Thailand. Well, at least in the way of some curry dishes. Maybe here, it was because it was the lack of portion size. My order was found to contain 6 potato chunks, many of which were undercooked and hard, a few slices of beef, and well... rice. This truck is certainly not bad, but doesn't elicit a need to go back feeling either. The food is flavorful, with a good spice kick but there wasn't really enough compared to other Thai places who give you twice the amount of food for the same price (around $8). I got the green curry with tofu and it surprisingly tasted a lot better than it looked. There was hardly any veggies in it and only a few chunks of steamed tofu... resembled a green soup pretty much. But, I have to give it to them because the flavor was definitely there. The staff does the minimum as far as customer service goes. I got there just before a crowd of about 10 people showed up. The lady was a little short but perhaps she was anticipating the crowd or maybe had a bad day... you just never know. They do accommodate vegetarians & vegans and give a free (home-made) egg roll with every entree. Bonus! It could be worse, but could also be a bit more appealing to the eye as well. read more

Yellow curry - sweet, aromatic, robust flavor Pepper steak - redolent of lemongrass and pepper Drunken noodle - hot, pungent, satisfying Super friendly ladies working inside while simultaneously being efficient with their communication. The chef especially has a lovely smile and demeanor. Real ceramic plates for dining in. I can't recall but I think the utensils were metal, not plastic. Let's just jump to the food Everything is like someone's mom made it - well why? Because there is a real deal Thai mom in there. She cooks things fresh - Their dry erase board menu even says any order will take at least 15 minutes. Tom Kha soup? Not in a huge batch - just made when you order it (but much better than the Jack in the Box promise) If my fiancee isn't feeling well, had a bad day at work, or I messed up - this is where I go to make all things right. The pad thai has the right about of sweetness and tang. Mom doesn't go cheap and use ketchup. She goes for the real ingredients for the real flavor. Portion sizes are huge as well. Don't get me wrong - in Texas, my favorite two letters are AC, but this trailer is my go to for Thai food. Give them good business to stay open, but not so good that they don't have time for me. My favorite restaurant is called Thai Thani, a hotel restaurant in Suratthani, Thailand. Unfortunately this place is not quite the same. I ordered pad see yew, which was very bland and the noodles were a bit too sticky. Luckily I have a stash of sauces at home that helped out. That being said, the green curry my fiancé ordered was very tasty. I will be back for the curry, but will stick to my own pad see yew. Fingers crossed they expand the menu. read more

I decided to finally try this neighborhood spot. I've been to Thailand and have tasted some really awesome thai food in my time. This place is really authentic. The owner comes from northeast Thailand which I am not familiar with as far as their specialties. The owners are really nice people and also live in the neighborhood. I believe they also still have a house in Thailand. I got the drunken noodles and the pepper steak. The drunken noodles were really good. They could have had a little more sauce. Not too spicy although I did ask for medium. They definitely on the foreigner scale as far as spicy amounts. Get it hot if you like hot. The pepper steak was delicious. The sauce was very flavorful and the portions just right. The vegetables are fresh and the basil is strong. Finally the price is excellent for the quality of food. I will go back for sure. read more

I know what good food is. This is the worst Thai I've had. I say this because most Thai I have is pretty good. It is by this standard that I write this review. I always ask what the best things on the menu are. If the drunken noodles were the favorite -- As suggested me by the young lady on the truck, then everything else is downhill from here. My drunken noodles were salty and spicy, with no flavor in between. If you know great food -- And you know who you are.. DO NOT go here, you will be disappointed. Just had Thai Thani for my 2nd time tonight. First time I got the pad thai with chicken, and man it was good. Had to come back again to try something else on the menu. This time, I got the drunken noodles with beef. I will say I enjoyed the pad thai more, but this dish was still pretty good. My only complaint with my food the first time is that it had no spice or anything to it. The drunken noodles indicated that it was spicy on the menu, and the girl at the window (who just happened to be pretty cute) asked how spicy I'd like it on a scale of 1-5. I asked for 3. Now, I enjoy spicy food, but after finishing the whole thing, my face is numb and I'm seeing stars. I can only imagine what a 5 would have been like; probably would have melted my face off. If you have a low tolerance for spicy food, be careful when ordering. Overall, flavors are good, prices are affordable, and the portions are a good size. I have heard really good things about Thai Thani so I was pretty excited to try it. I got the green curry with tofu. I don't know if it was just a bad night for them, but it was watery, really watery, soupy watery. The flavor was lacking, lower than mediocre. It tastes like cheap broth, with a little coconut milk, and store bought green curry paste mixed in. There were very few vegetables and the tofu was more or less raw, which is actually fine by me, but not what I expected. The rice was a bit gummy which I also normally don't mind, but paired with the incredibly mediocre, dare I say, bad soupy curry containing about 4-5 pieces of eggplant, a few bamboo shoots, and 4 or so chunks of tofu, left me incredibly disappointed. I would give it one more shot in hopes it was a bad night. The person I went with got the pepper steak which they liked, but I didn't try it. Meh. I doubt I will be back. read more

I was grumpy and cold and we waited around in teh car in teh parking lot of that not-so-savory convenience store. I had tom yum soup ("spicy lemongrass soup") and enjoyed it. Thankfully it was not that spicy, but there were a whole lot of lemongrass chunks in it. Came with rice to add in, so it was a bit heftier of a meal. Terrific little trailer on the good and getting better Manor Row. Living in this neighborhood, I was delighted to find out this trailer is run by other Cherrywood residents, so it's fun to support a neighbor. We had a lot of fun chatting while we waited, looking at the owner's cool vintage '56 Ford truck, and meeting other neighbors. Everything is made to order, so it's fresh and delicious. I loved the clean flavors (not a lot of heavy sauces or salt), and it was darned tasty. The Yummy wings are ridiculously good. The prices are more than fair, and reflect the owners' desire to provide a high quality product at an affordable (non-inflated) price. It's a family affair, parents and daughter, and they take their influence from authentic recipes. They will soon be expanding to dishes from other regions of Thailand. Another plus - late hours! At 10pm the Row is pretty dark, so it's exciting that some of the new businesses are staying open later for us night owls who suddenly realize it's 9pm and we haven't considered what to have for dinner. I look forward to spending more time and trying more dishes. This is a very welcome addition to the 'hood. read more

The potatoes could have been cooked a tad more and the quantity of rice could have been a bit more. But then for $7.5 with a spring roll, you cannot ask for more! Tried this place for the first time today- a gloomy, chilly day when I was craving soup and curry. I ordered the Tom Kha with tofu and the green curry with tofu. Both very good! Fresh, light flavors and lots of veggies. Tom Kha not too sweet and curry not to spicy. Keep in mind when going- they make everything from scratch so it takes 15-25 minutes. Call ahead if you don't have the time to wait. And the tofu is always steamed unless you ask for it to be fried (which I love because I prefer steamed and lots of places forget to do this even when I ask). I will go back. read more
