In a previous review I questioned if Santee needed another Thai restaurant as most here are just okay. The answer was absolutely, since this place is FANTASTIC! This place replaces a great Japanese/Sushi/with some Thai restaurant that has been her for a long time. It isn't in the best location for drive by traffic, but trust me, just like so many, YELP! is my go to because I've found so many WONDERFUL eateries that I'd never find anyway else! Since my first review my wife and I have dined here like about every other week, me, trying something different every time...and I have not had a disappointing dish yet, nor do I expect to. The portions are generous and the flavors are as well. You can order various spice levels. I tend to order a 3 asking for their spice tray having 4 different kinds of 'heat'/flavor I can apply to my liking for the day. It also allows me to taste and enjoy the flavors before I scald my mouth to death. I've been there for lunch and it is a wonderful deal with plenty of tasty Thai food! Their cute heart shaped rice is a nice touch. You will leave full and satisfied to take on the rest of your day ahead. Or, for dinner have leftovers if you can control yourself or if you are like us, approaching your senior years. This is a mini-chain and we will certainly find our way to the others someday to compare, but for now, having this minutes away from home, there is no need to expend expensive fuel to get FABULOUS Thai tastes! If I can give this place 10 stars, I would for various reasons. I come here frequently as my job is around the corner. I am never disappointed with every and any visit i have ever had at Thai Thai. The food is always a hit. I haven't had 1 bad or okay dish. Everything has always been wonderful, extremely tasty, and fairly, if not greatly portioned! My favorite is the garlic pepper with extra crispy mock duck. The curry is some of the best Thai curry I've ever had. Food is always seasoned and spiced so perfectly, I'm not exaggerating. Their Thai tea is so refreshing. I can go on and on, but my review wouldn't do justice for how great it actually is. Now, the real reason behind what makes this restaurant do phenomenal is the staff, especially the owner Janny. Every time I visit, they are always extremely attentive and welcoming! You can tell Janny truly cares about her customers and their contentment. She never fails to have a smile on her face & a positive attitude which tells me that she is truly genuine and happy about what she does. If I lived nearby, I would definitely be here more often. I had the pleasure of trying Thai Thai yesterday, and I must say I have found my new go-to thai restaurant in Santee! One lady (I must find out her name next time) was so kind and helpful! She recommended some great dishes and even gave me free thai coffee when she accidentally made that instead of thai tea, but it was no problem because they were both good. Beware, the coffee is a lot sweeter than I'm used to, but it has good flavor. Their drinks are large, tasty (thai tea is my favorite) and well worth the $4 which is half off during happy hour--such a good deal! Now on to the food. We ordered chicken pad see ew, crab fried rice, and chicken panang curry. The pad see ew had really good flavor--it was well seasoned and not overly sweet or salty. It was my favorite dish of the 3. The crab fried rice was good, not the best because of the overpowering crab flavor (I know that sounds weird because it's crab so it should taste like it, it's just really strong) but it's really meaty. They aren't stingy with their portions at all and I appreciate that! The panang curry was excellent as well. Just the right balance of coconut, curry paste, and spice! Also on the plus side, it's a small and cute hole in the wall so we found parking easily. As a lover of Thai food, I am disappointed to say that Thai Thai definitely missed the mark. I came in during lunch hours and so there were particular prices for particular things, part of the reason why I came in the first place. Lunch special was served with a little 'salad' which wasn't anything I'd ever call salad. I did order some iced tea which was tasty. When the server asked me the spice level, I told her spicy and she did that whole 'I don't think this b**ch wants spicy' and decided to just bring out the spices along with my dish so I could decide. This wasn't a big issue for me as I understand people order something too spicy and then regret it. My food, I got the cashew dish, was disappointing. Not only was it not spicy in any sense, but it just was not memorable at all. As far as the price went, when I got my bill, the prices didn't match what was listed on the menu for lunch which was disappointing. Not wanting to get into it with the lady again, I just paid and went on my way. Definitely wouldn't return as there are many more Thai restaurants around that just exceed the Thai Thai standard. read more

Based on the many five star reviews Thai Thai had received curiosity got the better of us and we had to try it, and I am glad we did. The Restaurant is located on Mast Blvd. not far from Magnolia Ave. in a strip mall. Parking is not a problem at all. The restaurant is clean and tastefully decorated. We were immediately greeted by Jenny who provided friendly and efficient service for us. As it was our first time, we decided to order three dishes we often order at other Thai Restaurants to see how Thai Thai compares. One thing I really like about their menu is the fact that they have the names of all dishes in Thai with a good description in English, along with a photo. 1. Tod Mun Pla - Fired Curried Fish Cake - This was excellent and as was pointed out to us made fresh, and you could taste it. Many Thai Restaurants serve this dish, but use frozen fish cakes to cut corners. (I know, because I buy them from a Laotian Grocery Store in South San Diego). Not here, these were fresh, tasty, not greasy and with the right balance of Kafir and Thai Basil leaves. The sweet Chili Peanut dipping sauce was an excellent accompaniment. 2. Garlic & Pepper with Chicken - This dish uses a lot of garlic, but unlike other Thai Restaurants, it was dry, the way it is supposed to be, and not watery. Served on a bed of cabbage, his was very tasty. 3. Spicy Noodles with Beef - Stir Fried flat Rice Noodles with slices of beef. Absolutely delicious, not greasy, nor did the noodles stick together. Served with a rich brown sauce. The Jasmine Rice on the side was served in the shape of a heart. A nice touch I thought. We ordered all these dishes with minimal spice because we like to have "control" of the heat ourselves. I prefer to use chilli provided, and they have excellent Prik Nam Pla, made of chillies, fish sauce, lime and sugar, a condiment I make myself. It was certainly a Five Star experience. I can not not think of anything negative to to mention in this review. I wish them much success at Thai Thai and hope that they will maintain their high standards of cooking delicious Thai Food with fresh ingredients. We look forward to going back soon! read more
