Yum! Great food, good prices, fast service - 1, 2, 3 stars just like that! There is a pretty big selection, you order at the counter and grab utensils on the way to your table - easy peasy. I'm not sure what the special code words are to get really spicy is because their "hot" is pretty average... Maybe super hot? Other than that no complaints. read more

In Lubbock for the weekend and decided to stray from the typical Texas bbq to satisfy our Thai craving. We ordered the egg rolls (pork), wonton soup, pad thai, and beef panang. The total came to $25. Score! Now, I'm from LA (plethora of Thai places) and my friend just got back from Guam, so we've eaten a lot of Thai food. We didn't have incredibly high expectations for Thai Thai, but we were pleasantly surprised. Aside from the soup, which tasted like old, frozen wontons, for the area and the price, it was tasty. The sauce on the panang was our favorite. A bit spicy, but full of flavor. We thought about giving this place 4 stars, but then I returned to LA, ate Thai food there, and couldn't quite bring myself to do it. Still, it's a solid 3 stars! read more

Shame on you Thai Thai. I've been frequenting Thai Thai for the last 4 years and think they do a great "putt Thai", gang ga ree, satay, hot and sour soup. Today I was disappointed for the very first time. I arrived at 11:40 am and the line to order was already to the door. I wait almost 25 minutes in line to order. A cup of hot and sour soup and #38 Nam Sod, which is the pork salad. It's supposed to be a generous portion of seasoned ground pork with lime juice, onion, ginger, peanuts and Thai chilies. I follow a low carb diet so have ordered this or the Lab Nau #31 several times before since they are meat dishes. It comes with rice but I don't eat it. The server brings out my Nam Sod today and to my surprise I push a little ground pork off the top and discover my pork salad is really a pile of rice noodles sprinkled with a tablespoon of ground pork. I have included a picture with this review. If they were out of ground pork, they could have said this dish was not available. Instead they tried to dupe me by trying to hide a pile of noodles with a minimal amount of pork. Thai Peppers Larb is a much better dish. Thai Thai, you may have just lost a regular customer because this is not ok. Go to any other Thai restaurant and order you won't get a pile of rice noodles. read more

I'm happy to have a descent Thai place in Lubbock. It's not a fancy restaurant, and you would probably get the minimum service (sometimes, the owner guy smiles. Well, sometimes.) but the food is not that bad. Plus, they are very quick. One of the good food options when you don't have any ingredients/energy to cook after work. I have tried a Cashew Chicken, Genghis Khan Beef, Kai Put Khing (my favorite), and Khow Putt and they were all pretty good. One advice is that you may want to say "mild" when you are asked how spicy you want the food to be. It doesn't mean that they make the food too spicy for non-Thai people. (Trust me, I love spicy food!) But once when I asked for the 'medium,' all I got was my regular meal topped with tons of white pepper to the point that they were trying to make me sneeze... So, I would probably order "mild" next time and adjust the level of spiciness using the red pepper sauce on the counter. Oh, lastly but not least - despite their least possible service, they have flowers on every table. They also have a bowl of jasmine flowers by the cashier. These two things make me feel happy each time I visit there. read more

They have a sizable menu but I almost always end up with the Beef Panang here -- a red curry with beef that's especially great in colder weather. Service moves much faster than some other Thai places in town even though the place usually has a decent crowd. They are doing specials now -- I don't think you'll find Green Chile cheese wontons (which were good) outside of West Texas. read more

Favorite place for Thai in Lubbock. The thai Bar-B-Q chicken (#32) is to die for. Several of the other items are just as amazing such as the artar, and pat won soo or something like that. This is the most authentic thai place in Lubbock. It's not chicken fried rice with "thai" sauce poured all over it like so many people seem to prefer. Originally only gave 4 starts because the owner does always look like someone owes him money and wasn't friendly to me ever even though I go in a lot. Inexpensive fare with an extensive menu in what seems to be a converted McDonald's restaurant, it is a departure from the string of fast food chain restaurants around the area. Thai Thai is a strange little place. Located in a former fast-food restaurant that looks neither clean nor appealing, the only reason to come here is the food. The owners close down without warning for weeks at a time, usually (but not always) coinciding with vacation times at Texas Tech. So, the food is okay; nothing to cheer about. Portions range from reasonable to large, and most of the noodle dishes seem to be fairly greasy. The workers seem nice enough, and there's a discount for paying with cash vs. credit card (or a surcharge for CC, if you choose to see it that way). There's a menu posted on the wall, as well as a lot of handwritten "specials" taped up in various places. Order/pay at the counter and then sit down while waiting for the food to be delivered to your table. My thoughts: this place is ok, but Thai Pepper on 34th is much better. I decided to give this place a try after being a regular at Bangkok for years now. My go to dish is always beef noodle soup so I decided order it here. I was a little disappointed in the portion size however the flavors were all there for me. The soup had a richer taste compared to bangkoks and the beef was more tender. Surprisingly the fried chips and dipping sauces were better here too. This place is also much bigger and cleaner so I was way more comfortable eating here. The only things I didn't like was the customer service, seemed to not care but it could've just been a bad day. If you order Thai Tea then ask for less ice as they fill the entire cup up. I'll definitely be going back to try out other dishes in the future. Overall a nice, clean place worth giving a try. 4/5 read more

This was not my first time there, and as Thai offerings go in Lubbock Thai Thai is not bad. Expect about a 25 minute wait if you arrive at noon on any given Friday. The menu offerings are varied and I like what they do with the numbers-pictures on a board to order. You would think this would speed things up in the ordering process, but at noon the line was just to the door, and took a long time to get to the cashier to order. The prices are reasonable and the food comes out quickly, so that balances out the wait coming in, I suppose. The #15 putt thai (I have always seen it pad thai) was only available in combination (shrimp, chicken, etc). It was tasty, if the portion was a bit small. The Thai tea was the highlight. Creamy smooth goodness. I also ordered Thai beef jerky, and I am not used to it being served without sticky rice, but it looked good. However, it did not smell so good. Unfortunately, the cut of meat seemed okay, and the actual taste was okay, once it got in your mouth, if you could get past the dirty dishrag smell going in your mouth. I do not know if this is typical of their jerky, because this is one of the things I had not tried before. Having eaten there before, I do not believe this was typical, and it would not keep me from going back again (when I am in Lubbock and feel a Thai compulsion). My 2nd time here and I won't be back. The first time was decent, got the putt pad thai as it's okay, not the best I've had. 2nd time, I got the 21 and wtf! Sometime I felt if you go about an hour before closing time, the owner behaves rude and they serve food in hurry without properly cooking. I also feel the timings of this place is a little wired as most of the time they are closed. Now the mango sticky rice is the best thing in the place. First off, this is not the place to go if you want pad Thai and Americanized Thai food. That being said, they have amazing authentic foods. This is the go-to spot for me and my Thai friend who compares the cooking to her moms! And that is quite the compliment. They have amazing coconut curry and I the beef soup noodles. I've been eating at Thai Thai since they were on Quaker Ave. They moved to this old McDonalds several years ago. When my wife was dying of cancer, the owner would give her the beef soup broth (her favorite) and refused to charge for it. My kids used to enjoy watching the fish in the aquarium when they were 4 & 5. Tonight the same children and I watched a little child watching the fish in the aquarium. A bit of nostalgia. I love Thai food. I was very spoiled growing up because I had access to excellent Thai food. Recently I've lived in a lot of small mountain towns without things like curry, sushi or whatnot. Moving to Lubbock I figured we might have some decent Thai food but I wasn't expecting anything amazing. This place is delicious. I ordered the Gang Ga Rae, Putt Thai and the Green Chile Cheese Wontons. Mmmm. Living in New Mexico now I couldn't resist Thai food with green chiles. The Gang Ga Rae was like a yellow curry soup and it was so good. The medium spiciness had the right hint of bite and flavor. There's a limited variety of Thai locally, this place is pretty good. I love the family owned atmosphere. It can be tricky sometimes getting someone to answer the phone when trying to call in an order and the lines can be really long around dinner service. Overall, a great little place to get Thai food! Place was weak. As a baseline, I always order pad thai and a thai tea to gauge the place before I try out other dishes. Everything on the menu with "pad" is replaced with "putt". My "putt thai" came out in 5 minutes.,.before my appetizer. Not a good sign. Makes me believe it is made from a big batch. The look is not appetizing BUT it tastes better than it looks. Not great but not bad either. The thai coffee was horribly bitter with a slight after taste .Definitely not similar to viet coffee.
