Best Thai restaurant in LBK, no question asked!!! Oh, how I miss Thai Thai now that I don't live in the dust bowl anymore. It could possibly be my favorite Thai restaurant of all time. I used to go to Thai Pepper a lot since they are close to work. It wasn't until one summer when Thai Pepper was closed for a couple of weeks b/c the family was vacationing in Thailand i started going to Thai Thai. I am so glad I did. From then on, I became a regular. Compared to Thai Pepper, Thai Thai offers a whole lot more variety of dishes. I've pretty much tried everything on their menu. I ordered at least 3 times a week so the owner, his daughter and the white guy who works at the register all know me personally. I like the fact that they are a family owned and operated small business. Everyone there is always so friendly and personable. They actually recognize my voice when I order on the phone. The owner seems pretty serious but he actually is incredibly kind, has a funky personality and can be pretty funny from time to time. I always get special treatment even though i never asked for it. No matter how long the line at the register is and even i am at the end of the line, they always walk up to me, take my credit card and let me get my takeout without waiting. I like how they grow flowers, basil and some other herb and use them for decorating and cooking. The restaurant does have a weird layout and it isn't upscale by any means. But it is always clean, laid back and well decorated with fresh flowers on each table. The price is very affordable too. Every Sunday, I get their beef noodle soup with fresh spring rolls (they make the spring rolls on Sundays only). My other favorite items on the menu include #28, #19 and #24. I also love their egg drop soup and Thai tea, so delicious! The sticky rice with mango and green chili cheese wonton are great too and I also order the Thai beef jerky from time to time. And of course you can't go wrong with the typical Thai fried noodle and fried rice dishes here either. Thai Thai is more than just a Thai restaurant to me. It is an awesome place where i can have incredibly tasty and authentic Thai dishes and chat with people who care. Love the food and the people there! read more

This place is so amazing. We love getting food from here. Our normal order is Chicken or Beef Noodle Soup, mild to medium heat (according to our mood). The broth is so amazing. The noodles are so yummy and the veggies in the soup are amazingly fresh and tasty. Additionally, the people that run this restaurant are always friendly! I drove to Bangkok Thai on a Tuesday afternoon hoping to get some of their awesome beef noodle soup, I got there and they were unfortunately closed that day. I live close to this place so I decided to give it try. I got the beef noodle soup medium heat and it was $9, which is more than Bangkok Thai. It was waaaaay sweeter than I expected and not spicy at all. No matter how much hot oil I put in it I couldn't counteract the sweet, which really ruined it for me. It was also a smaller portion than I expected. I may return to try some other things but only if Bangkok Thai isn't available. read more

I've never had a bad dish here. My current favorite is Beef Noodle Soup, but I've also had a variety of the curry soups and they're all good. Seasonal favorite is the mango sticky rice which you should never pass up. The exterior of the building may throw you off, but don't let it stop you. I visited Lubbock, TX in early December of 2010. My wife and I decided to eat at Thai Thai. The place was packed with people and we were thinking we had found a gem. The way that the restaurant is set up is more of a fast food type of place. You line up at the front to place your order and get your drink. You go to your table and the waiter/waitress brings your food to you. I had the BBQ chicken and my wife and the yellow or green curry chicken. We were disappointed in the taste. The BBQ chicken was dry and hard and the curry chicken was just off. The chicken from the curry seemed as if it had been boiled and water and thrown in the curry at the last minute. All in all, I'm happy that there are Thai restaurants in Lubbock but it just doesn't compare to places in California. read more

Not a bad Thai restaurant. It's one of my favorite restaurants in town overall. Pretty good prices, very clean, lots of plants (orchids, and home grown herbs and peppers during the summer), and interestingly, it's a former McDonalds. I wish more MdD's would be replaced by local, family owned Thai restaurants. Anyway, by far, the best thing I've had on the menu is the Beef Noodle Soup. The broth is a mouthwatering explosion of complexity and flavor. I just wish the beef were better quality. It's always pretty tough and chewy. I wouldn't know better, had I not had a similar Vietnamese dish in NYC near china town. I'm talkin' tender sliced beef, still pink in the middle, not this generic, greyish dog meat. I know that's harsh, especially for my 'favorite dish' and me giving the place 4 stars. But his rating is relative to the Lubbock context. Sadly, the chicken and pork noodle soups are bland in comparison to the beef. I say 'sadly' because my complaint about the beef can't be alleviated by by simply ordering the other soups. Bangkok has a comparable beef noodle soup, but their chicken and pork noodle soups are actually also delicious (and a dollar or two less). Other good items: Chicken Fried Rice, Fresh Rolls (sunday only), Artar, Chicken cocount soup and Putt woon sen, sticky rice and mango (in season only). Again, during the summer, they grow a lot of their own herbs and peppers for maximum freshness and organicity. read more

I will forever come back to Thai Thai because not only was the food EXCELLENT, they have a self serve basket of hot chips and a PUMP ACTION sweet and sour dispenser. Most of the time Thai restaurants ration out sweet and sour sauce like its liquid gold and I was SO EXCITED to see that Thai Thai was different. I had the Pad Thai, medium and it was outstanding. I also had a dish that was new to me, Khao Soi, it had a mild curry flavor was delightful. I can't wait to come back and try more dishes!! read more

This place doen't look like much from the outside. It used to be a McDonald's and hasn't been refurbished. It looks like the owner is in the middle of fixing it up. In the meantime, you may wonder if it is open. If you are disabled, you will need to drive all the way around to the far side of the building to find the ADA parking and ramp. You may also want to have your aide check to make sure it is open before they drag you out of the car or van as they keep strange hours. Once inside, the interior is easy to navigate as it is very Spartan. Basic tables and chairs on linoleum. There is a visual menu where you can pick out what you want to eat. The owner is there all the time and will gladly explain each dish to you. So feel free to ask what a dish is, but be careful about asking for substitutions. The owner can get sorty prickly about that and may refuse. A good safe dish which they do well is pad Thai. They spell it putt Thai for some reason, which is strange, but my friend who loves pad Thai says its excellent. There is a sign at the register, though, that basically says, "Don't ask for substitutions on the putt Thai." So take it as it comes or don't get it at all. I asked for and got some cream cheese wontoms, which were excellent. I told him what I was looking for "beef lemongrass" and he shook his head no "not authentic." He would fix me something authentic instead. So for this authenic dish, which turned out to be wonderful, and some wontons, it was $15. Which wasn't too bad. The beef came with a chili paste that I could put on the beef if I wanted some heat, but I tried a bit and my gastro-reflux immediately acted up and said, "No!!" I don't know the name of the soup that came with the authenic dish but it was incredible! I loved it! It was a chicken and rice type soup and I would eat that every day if I could. I didn't try to use the restroom there so I can't say how ADA it is. But based on the work I'm seeing outside, I hope it is as good as their soup! read more

And usually people in line are fellow Thai Thai addicts and will be glad to give you a few options. I swear by their egg drop soup, crab wontons, shrimp putt Thai, fried rice, sticky rice with mango and their #22. #22 is noodles with this kick ass sauce with broccoli and choice of meat-I don't eat red meat or chicken-shrimp does the trick. Staff will argue with you when you attempt to substitute an item or make any change to they plate as it comes. I tried to explain why I could not eat a certain ingredient and the staff replied well that's how it comes. I am ok with rude service if the meal makes up for it, however in this case the food was as subpar as the service. read more

My favorite restaurant in Lubbock by far. Who knew little old Lubbock would have such a gem? I usually go for the Tom Kar Kai Soup or the Putt Thai, which is like a similar pad thai. Service is excellent, your food comes out usually within 10 minutes. Beware, their heat levels are pretty spicy. Medium is a good way to go if you're looking for a lot of spice, hot for those a little adventurous (good luck!).
