I found this place through Yelp last time I was in Lubbock. It was good the first time, so I went back a second time. The place is basically a tiny house/hut sitting by itself on the side of the road. The inside is cramped and unimpressive. The decorations were basically a collage of random items. Both times I was there had two, grandma like people working there. That was reflecting in the taste of the food. I do not eat Filipino often, but this place was pretty good for me. Most of the dishes I had were very good. The portion size were decent and the flavors were great. The BBQ stick was a bit dry and the rice was dry and a bit old. Another issue was the availability. Many of the items on the white board menu was either sold out or not available. Next time I am back in Lubbock I will stop by again. I would recommend this restaurant. Enjoy y'all. Finding Filipino food in Lubbock was like finding a particular needle in a needle stack, but Linda's happened to pop up on my radar, so I decided to give it a go. Most Filipino restaurants I've been to are usually fast-casual; the food already prepared, you take your picks, and you're out the door. Not Linda's. Linda's actually makes everything to order. Sounds amazing, right? Unfortunately, Linda's failed to impress. It took almost 20 minutes to get my food, and considering the place was entirely empty, I felt that was a bit excessive. Additionally, the food itself wasn't anything special; the beef steak was tougher than leather, the rice was undercooked, and the pork bbq had no flavor. This is my first time here. I had expected to go to a shack, because of a previous review I read. The place is clean. From what I heard this is their new location. I had their combo, pepper steak and sweet sour & chicken. The was food was good. We'll be back. Maybe to order a more traditional Filipino food. I love Linda's Cafe. The owner and chef are like family to me, and ever since they moved to this new location several years ago, I'm always excited to see them flourish. It makes me happy to see the Filipino community growing and thriving. I always want to come here and try new things, but I admit that I have several favorite dishes that I have to get when I come here. To name a few: Sinigang - basically this is a sour and salty soup made with fish or sometimes pork. The pucker of the soup is just right, and it's always perfectly seasoned. When I think of this soup I think of that anticipatory pucker I get when I eat salt and vinegar chips. Pansit - Pansit to a Filipino restaurant is a lot like Pad Thai to a Thai restaurant: if the noodles have the right chew, and the veggies are cooked and seasoned perfectly, then it says so much to me about how good the cook is. The pansit is always good here. The noodles are chewy without being undercooked and the veggies/chicken are well balanced. Tocilog and Torta - I love coming here for Filipino breakfasts. It reminds me of having home cooked meals and being with family, and the kindness of the two ladies behind the counter enhance that. Tocino can be hard to find and cook, but basically it's like a sweetened, cured Filipino pork. Combine that with rice fried with garlic, and you get tocilog! I like getting this and splitting my mom's tinapasilog (fried fish). The fried fish is super good when you eat it with the chili-infused vinegar on the tables. Both of the dishes are served with eggs. Definitely if you're in the mood for good a good home-cooked meal at a reasonable price, you need to come to Linda's Cafe. read more

Decided to try something different while on business. Atmosphere: From the outside, it doesn't look like much. It is a tiny little building with an unpaved parking area. Once inside, it still doesn't look like much. There are roughly 5 booths (maybe 6) that could comfortably seat 4 each inside. The menu is directly across from the main entrance and there is a counter along the right hand side. Refrigerators and other stuff are just on this side of the counter. Despite the tiny size and somewhat crapped feel, it gives one a very comfortable feel. Staff: Absolutely wonderful! I had no clue what to order, so had to ask. The lady explained a couple of the items to me and I chose to go with the Pancit with meat (which included pork, chicken, beef, and shrimp). She was very nice and engaged me in polite conversation. I felt as if I were at a relative's house enjoying a home-cooked meal. Food: simply delicious! I have not been exposed to a lot of Filipino dishes, but this was amazing! The portion was far larger than I expected and still piping hot from the preparation. I did my best to finish it, but couldn't make it because there was so much. If you want to try some good home-cooked Filipino food, this is it! Don't let appearances fool you or turn you away. For me, it was like eating good food with distant relatives. read more

Very nice ladies at this small shack. Don't worry about the looks because the food is what counts! The restaurant is very small maybe 5-6 tables for 4. They make most of their food when you order. I live 2 hours away so when they found out I wanted to order extra for to go so I can eat dinuguan and karekare at a later date they gave me a bunch of ice and extra food without extra charge! This restaurant has two old employees and the old lady on the cashier was VERY RUDE. I ordered pork (lechon paksiw) and the pork was all shredded, it should have pork chunks. Meaning the pork was overcooked (heated too much times) or she gave me left overs. I asked her what the order was, because it doesnt look appetizing. She was very rude and told me that was what its supposed to look like. My family cooks this dish, but it never looked that unnappetizing. Don't buy from this place. Lomein is also good. They make Chinese dishes, in addition to the Filipino dishes. Everything is home made, so call ahead if you're taking out as the cooking time may be 30 to 45 minutes. I admit that I don't have much experience with authentic Filipino food (at all, really), but when you walk into Linda's Cafe, you can't help but feel that you're getting the real deal. When the menu is 60% in a language you can't read, that's a good sign, right? This restaurant is a tiny place off the side of 19th on the west side of town. It's so unassuming, I actually passed it while looking for it and had to double back. Outside, I could only describe the building as "worn". Walking inside, though, you see a sense of charm in the place. Clearly family-run, when I walked in, three middle-aged Asian ladies greeted me happily, and when I told them it was my first time, they jumped to recommend something to me. I ended up going with the Special Pancit (which is like thin rice noodles stir-fried with some veggies and all your basic meats) as well as a couple BBQ skewers. This turned out to be a really nice flavor combination because the skewers had strong, sweet flavor, while the Pancit was more subtle and savory. The portion sizes are enormous for the pricing, which is already cheap as it is, in my opinion. In fact, I still have half the pancit sitting in my fridge as leftovers. I went at an off-meal time so there weren't really other customers around, so while waiting for my food, the ladies engaged in light, pleasant conversation with me. Apparently this place has been around for 23 years?! Amazing. For good, cheap, and (as far as I can tell) authentic cuisine, Linda's Cafe gets 5/5. I enjoy Asian food but the difference between Linda's Cafe and other local Asian food establishments is that most Asian food restaurants have pre made of everything that they dip from a bin and put on a plate. At Linda's Cafe, I ordered pepper steak and they cooked it fresh along with a freshly cooked spring roll and the flavor was awesome. The best pepper steak dish that I have ever tasted! I came here just to get some spring rolls. I ask for two orders of spring rolls. The owner/cook goes in the back and fries them up. She puts one order (8 rolls) in the fryer. When they are done she gets a pair of scissors and cuts the 8 spring rolls in half?!! She boxes them, 16 half pieces of spring rolls. I guess if I asked for 3 orders she would have cut them into thirds. Ridiculous! Other than getting ripped off, the spring rolls tasted okay for what it 's worth.
