I'll be honest--I wasn't expecting much, but PHO District 1 completely exceeded expectations. In…read morewhat feels like a classic college town, this spot delivers seriously good Vietnamese food with bold, comforting flavors that hold their own anywhere. The pho was rich, aromatic, and deeply satisfying--exactly what you want on a cold day or after a long one. What really stood out was how accommodating they were with customization. Every request was met with ease, and the end result was a bowl that felt thoughtfully made, not rushed or generic. Service was friendly, the place was packed (always a good sign), and the food spoke for itself. If you're craving legit pho and flavorful Vietnamese comfort food, this spot is absolutely worth the stop--and honestly, it's a standout for the area.

The veggies were sparse which scared me but the chili oil was a very nice surprise. Not common for pho places but I enjoyed the flavor of it. The boba was also very surprisingly good (better than some other boba chains I've tried in town). There is a ton of broth. There is a bit of... depth missing but overall it's pretty solid. My friend did a create your own bowl and said there wasn't enough toppings/ meat for him so just to put that out there. Biggest downside is that the place smells pretty strongly of the nail salon next door which kind of muted my appetite at the beginning.

While it wasn't…read morethe most mind-blowing ramen I've ever had, it was genuinely good--especially for the location--and clearly hits the spot when you're craving something warm and comforting. I really appreciated the variety of vegetarian options, which felt thoughtfully done rather than like an afterthought. My bowl was flavorful and well-balanced, though worth noting: even after asking for heat, it wasn't spicy at all, so spice lovers may want to temper expectations. That said, the experience had a bit of a rough start. We arrived right at the posted opening time (11am) and ended up waiting outside in the freezing cold, unsure if they were actually open. We had to call to confirm, and only then did someone come to unlock the door. Once inside, I asked for hot tea--pretty standard at most Japanese spots--only to be told they were completely out, which was surprising. All things considered, Yanagi Ramen delivers a dependable bowl with good vegetarian choices and a clean, modern space. A few opening-hour kinks and missing basics kept it from being great, but the food itself was enjoyable, and I'd happily come back--just not for spice, and hopefully next time with hot tea ready to go.

My only thing is that the soup could have been slightly warmer and with a smidge more broth. I usually don't like a tone of broth but this was a little lacking (see photo). My friend got the seafood ramen and it looked really bad. He said it came cold which was confirmed with another person who tried the soup. The shrimp looked very overcooked and the scallops were tiny. We also tried the calamari and the takoyaki. The takoyai wasn't very good and the calamari also wasn't great but the sauce saved it a little. We also tried the white peach sake which didn't taste like alcohol at all. The hot teas and sodas are refills as well. Service was nice and the interior is very pretty and modern.
