Thai Talay is an Americanized Thai restaurant on Lincoln (PCH) in Westchester, about 10 minutes north of LAX. Thus handy if you are going to or from the airport. This was during Covid so we ate outdoors, in their back parking lot under an inexpensive awning. There are two heaters but they are in the middle of the dining area and not enough to heat both sides of the dining area. We were all cold and had to wear jackets. The service was excellent. Our server wore not only a mask and gloves, but also a face shield. Face shields are mandated by the- LA County Board of Health but very few restaurants have their staff wear them. I ordered their sampler appetizer plate: 2 fried egg rolls, two breaded shrimp, two chicken satay skewers, and four steamed dumplings, kinda like shu mai. It was OK. Only $16. I also had what they call red devil noodles, which is pad kee mao or also called drunken noodles. Meh. The flavor was bland. I had asked for a litttle spicier than medium and it was more like mild. There was more chicken than you usually get in this dish but it was long and stringy. The portion was on the small side but for $12 in West LA I was not expecting a huge bowl. Yes, it came in a bowl not a plate but they did give me plate. One person in my party ordered filet mignon. Seriously? In a Thai restaurant? Who puts that on their Thai menu and who orders that? $23 and they said it was OK but the portion was small. Two people ordered the tom yum soup and enjoyed it. The gentlemen next to was not adventuresome and had the pad Thai. Pad translates to noodles in Thai. We all lied to each other to be polite and saids the food was OK. I have lived in the neighborhood for over 10 years and my vibes have been telling me to miss Thai Talay. My hunch was correct. I will stick to driving to Thai Town in East Hollywood on Sundays when traffic is light and street parking is free. Quite a few wonderful Thai restaurants. read more

Went here for my roommates bday and was very impressed! The portions here are huge which is fantastic and the prices are very fair for the quality that you get! They have a full open bar and when we went they had indoor dining. The green curry is delicious as is the calamari, filet mignonette steak w green beans and even the desserts were great. The SPICE is so NICE. Been here a few times, this is my go-to if I'm craving spicy because they understand what "spicy" means. You can custom order your spice level from mild to extra spicy (spicy is my preference, you definitely feel/notice it but not to the point of your mouth burning which maybe 'extra spicy' could be.) I ordered takeout a while back and have dined in twice. I've never had any issues, yet I see their reviews are not rated high and it seems to do more with the takeout meals. Maybe this was a struggle in the recent year and caused poor reviews, I'm not sure. But if you read and trust my unbiased reviews, I highly recommend this restaurant. I've even introduced a couple satisfied people to it. This time we got Tom yum soup, spicy - one of my favorites. It only comes in a smaller size, not big enough to be a whole meal which I kind of wish they still offered the large size. I appreciate that they are accommodating as I can't have mushrooms but was able to replace it with bok choy. You can choose chicken or tofu. The tofu was perfect as was the broth. Eggplant, spicy - omg, a new favorite. The eggplant are long strips and they had crunch over them! Not sure how but loved that. You can get this with meat or tofu, and it comes with chunks of crunchy bell peppers. The sauce was the best part. I don't even know how to describe it but it's very tasty and great on top of rice. The tofu was great and soaked up the sauce. Sticky rice - comes wrapped in plastic, looks cool and tasted perfect. Bbq chicken - served on a long plate with 4 big pieces and sweet sauce. Soft and nicely cooked, skin may be a little charred but was easy to pick that off. They also have 3 trays of spicy options to add to your meal which I enjoyed. The cook here is doing it right! Besides the perfect food, the service is top-notch. All the staff is super friendly and attentive. I like how they take care of the bar and restaurant together and not just taking care of certain sections. We had everything we needed, they were accommodating, made sure our waters were refilled and checked in regularly. I also like that they supply a few napkins, not just one. The ambience is very nice inside. I like that the tables are covered with leathery material, this is easy to clean and glassware stays were you put it. My only recommendation is upkeeping the bathroom as nice as the restaurant. It wasn't horrible but there were webs on the walls and it could use some sprucing up. read more

This is probably my go to lunch place every now and then with my co-workers. Take advantage of their lunch deals! Parking is street, but plentiful imo. I got the Devil Noodles. It's a bit spicy, but handleable (trust me I'm awful at spice ). Anyway, I HIGHLY recommend this dish as it's not your average pad Thai or pad see. The portions are decent, I got full almost off all of it. My friend also got the crab fried rice, not pictured, and that was also pretty good. Soup was bland but better the next day after flavors had a chance to mingle. The major drawback was the service. Had to ask for stuff from several staff members as our original server never returned until trying to get a check. Ordered take out tonight. I've ordered here 3-4 times in the last 6 years. We prefer going to Hollywood for Thai food but with the COVID situation we craved Thai food. We placed an order of chicken fried rice, pad see ew and egg rolls, for pick up and based on the app it said 20-40 minutes. After 15 minutes it was pushed up to 30-50 minutes. I guess I imagined there was a lot of orders and to expect freshly made food. WRONG! Chicken fried rice was bland, cold and chicken was dry. It was like they fried the rice without oil. It tasted like it was someone's left overs from lunch time. Also, when the heck did they put cherry tomatoes in fried rice? The onions were raw, which leaves me to believe they made the rice and chicken during the day and threw some things to make it look fresh. I'm had my fave place once again! This time I had the dinner portions of TT BBQ, crab fried rice and large wonton soup. Omg! Everything was amazing. I picked up order and asked if the side salad which usually comes with lunch special was available a la carte. It was! and that made me so happy. (On a low carb diet) My hubby is picky about wonton soup, after two years, his usual spot closed during Covid so for two plus years, he's been looking for a replacement. We found it! Thai Talay is okay. I'm not really sure what possessed me to get the Hainam Chicken (at a Thai place) other than wanting something chicken-y and light, even though its usually boiled in a vat of chicken oil. Regardless, the chicken was pretty tender and I like how they put fried garlic on the rice. The rice has a burnt quality to it and the sauce that is paired with the chicken is very Thai spice flavored. So it defintely is a Thai take on Hainam chicken. The yellow curry was decent, and the eggplant dish was tasty but too oily for me. I might come back in a pinch, but most likely not. read more

No way that place, never again. But for Thai Talay, great location, and incredible take out as well. I tend to get it for take out but literally authentic and really well portioned. Came in yesterday with a reservation for 10 but some of our party weren't able to make it last minute. They didn't mind at all. We were seated immediately and the service was great. It is actually reasonably priced for a date night or a business dinner/lunch. My co-workers and I love this place it serves yummy Thai food. The presentation of each dish makes it looks more appetizing and appealing. You could get the same type of food around the corner but restaurant decor and food presentation cannot come close.
