    Pad Thai

Mixed feelings about this place, but came to the conclusion it is a solid high 3 to low 4 / 5 restaurant. things that add value: -HIGHLY customizable Thai cuisine to the individual palate/preference, whether that be GF, Vegetarian/Vegan, no MSG, Lite sauce, Organic. You won't see this anywhere (MI, at least). Most Thai restaurants are LOADED with HEAVY sauce that is overbearing, but this place pleasantly has the option to customize. I appreciate that. Also spice level is appropriate. -Service: Despite self service for kitchenware/water, the other service was quite good. I didn't like the taste of the veg curry b/c the sauce was too sweet, and it got remade without question. They came back multiple times to make sure it was to my liking which it then was. -Food: Overall pretty good. Chicken is chicken, steak is steak. Nothing special about the taste, but mentally it makes me feel good it is organic and no MSG. Things that could be improved upon: Service: This is mostly self-serve kitchenware/water and to go bowls. This is interesting because to them it is the only way to keep their prices down to have customers get a no - MSG, organic meal under $15 which is their mission, which I respect. However, I did get my own high chair for kid, cleaned our table, got kitchenware, etc., which was no big deal. -Food: preference - currys are a bit too sweet. THis is b/c of the coconut milk they use, which is not a problem to most people, but just be aware of this. I could not tolerate the amount of sweetness and they had it remade which was very nice of them. All in all, I would come back. Clean/healthy ingredients to a highly crave-able cuisine.

Updated review. Actually spoke with the owner on the phone after my last review. He explained to me their mission for this restaurant, which is to create an affordable, MSG free, organic Thai food place for everyone. I was impressed by the theory and decided to try it again. I was not offered any monetary incentive btw, so this is a honest review. I have to say, this is not the best Thai food I have ever tasted, but this is the only MSG free Thai food restaurant in the area. Plus they offer organic ingredients. Their service is also excellent. They offer many diet accommodations, such as gluten-free or vegan. I was most impressed by their soup this time. Very unique. Full of flavor. Would definitely return just for the soup and the friendly service.

The Tom Yum & Tom Ka soups were delicious. Just what was needed on a cold winter day to warm up. The fried rolls were pretty good with the dipping sauce. Service was pleasant. Will visit again on my next trip to the area. You should too. :)

    Drunken noodles,
    Ashley B.

I got the drunken noodles and my husband got the chicken fried rice. I was a little surprised by lack of color of my food (usually it is dark brown) but it tasted good. Husband didn't really care for his rice, he ended up adding a whole container of red chili paste to it. The crab Rangoon, salmon rolls, and Thai iced tea were so good! I got a side of peanut sauce didn't really like. Food was fresh and good. Cute set up inside. Can't really tell that from the outside. We went there on a whim. I'm glad we did and will be back. If it's your first time, know you can order with the staff at the front, on the kiosk, or sit and order on your phone. If you sit, no one comes and takes your order but we were fine with that!

Our food is always excellent and I like to try new things all the time. But we still have favorites. Appetizers. It's hard not to order the fried wontons, my spouse's favorite. We both enjoy the apple or papaya salad. And I'm a sucker for tum yum soup, theirs does not disappoint. Entrees we often enjoy traditionals like Pad See Ewe and Fried Rice. They are staples for a reason. But I've enjoyed trying many of Sue's recommendations. And I love a ground chicken dish she recommended served with lettuce cups and a fried egg. I wish I remembered the name. But it's one of her favorites. She will know! Be sure to ask for the Thai pickled lime and hot peppers condiment (upon request). My newest obsession is their Chicken Satay salad. It's fantastic. So fresh and delicious, not to mention gorgeous. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed. I can't tell you about dessert because we are always too full. But I'm determined to try her mango rice because I'm confident it will be amazing . If you have tried this place, it's worth a visit. To start, we got moo krob (deep fried pork belly) which is the Thai version of Chinese siu yook. I have to say, I like siu yook so much more - it's a lot more flavorful having been marinated with five spice and served with delicious sweet hoisin sauce for dipping. The pork here was bland and the sauce (fish sauce based) was pretty one note. For my entree, I got rad na (rice noodles with gravy, Chinese broccoli, carrots, and choice of meat - I got pork) which was one of the best I've ever had! They used fresh rice noodles and sautéed it properly to give it the "wok hei" (wok-seared flavor). The gravy was deep and flavorful and the portion size was very good. If everything else was as good as my entree, I'd give this restaurant 5 stars. Unfortunately, my mom's Kao mun gai (steamed chicken with rice and "special sauce") was awful. She asked if the dish had any spice because she can't do spicy, and the server said no, so she decided she'd try it. The chicken was way overcooked and dry, with no flavor at all. The sauce, the only thing providing flavor and moisture, was spicy so that she couldn't eat it. We asked if there was any sauce she could get instead that wasn't spicy, and they said no, but they can give us a bottle of soy sauce. So my mom used some of that, and also took some of my rad na gravy. But because the chicken was so dry and bland, it was beyond saving. My dad got the Thai basil fried rice, mild spice. It was definitely hotter than other Thai restaurants' mild, and my dad said the spice overwhelmed the other flavors. I tried some of it and it was not bad, but nothing remarkable. They told us that traditionally, it's served with the rice on the side, which was strange to me because then it's not fried rice - it's sautéed meat and veggies with rice on the side. I am curious about how some of the other dishes taste here, but it's a shame that 3/4 of the things we ordered were mediocre to downright bad. While I enjoyed my entree, I felt bad my parents didn't enjoy their food.

I cannot find any other local Thai restaurant that is currently serving glass noodles in this form. Almost all ingredients that are imported are extremely expensive, and since Thai restaurants are having a challenge with costs, it's a premium. My friend ordered a drunken noodle, which frankly, I should probably try some time, however, given the fact that there's not many places that makes pad Thai with glass noodles, I stick with what I know. The interior is perfect for the sit down experience, the aesthetics are pleasing, as the room is bright yellow, and I'm saying that with love.
