    BBQ Chicken Over Fried Rice
    Kressa M.

I've been loving the food at this place since 2008. Candidly, I tend to stick to the same items, but the food has been consistent in my intermittent visits. It's not overly glamorous in here, but I'm not there for the decor. I just want a satisfying meal. I have noticed less people in here lately as the stores around expand and change. It makes me sad to see this place a little quieter these days - but the service is just as nice and friendly as ever. I hope to keep coming back for my classic go-to meal.

Thai Stick has been our regular spot for Thai Food for over a decade now. Although there are other Thai restaurants closer to our house, we haven't strayed much from this place much at all. Prior to Covid, Thai Stick used to stay open late, sometimes after midnight, especially during the weekends. Their late-night hours likely had a big influence on our loyalty to the restaurant. The food, too, of course. Our favourites are: LARB CHICKEN ($13.95) - Tangy, bright, and yummy. Wish that it had rice powder for a slight crunch in texture and roasted fragrance, a bit more mint, and whole lettuce leaves to eat in cups. THAI STICK SALAD (with no BBQ Chicken for $10.95) - LOVE this salad, but often need to order extra dressing/Peanut Sauce ($3.00) because the serving is generous. YELLOW CURRY (with Chicken for $17.95) - Creamy deliciousness. PUMPKIN CURRY (with Vegetables or Chicken for $17.95) - DJ's go-to curry because he loves pumpkin. GARLIC & PEPPER Beef ($17.95) - Very flavourful, goes perfectly well with steamed white rice. PAD THAI (with Chicken for $16.95) - Of all the Thai noodle dishes, Pad Thai is DJ's #1. Thai Stick's version is not bad, but I have had tastier at other places. Sweet Sticky Rice & Mango ($9.00) - The mango is always very soft. Roti (Thai Sweet Pan Cake, $5.00) - A simple, but delightful dessert. Thai Ice Tea ($3.00) - What is a Thai meal without Thai Ice Tea? Order it here, you won't be disappointed. As for the venue, the place would benefit from a good cleaning and maybe even a renovation. The building is run-down with carpet coming undone at wall edges, filthy window sills, dirty baseboards, chipped paint, etc. The women's restroom is surprisingly clean, but the hallway that leads to the bathrooms is like a storage space with cardboard boxes of supplies stacked against the wall. Service is nice, though, even when ordering to go. At our last take-out order, we were given a complimentary order of Roti. During that same visit, I saw a table sitting with their little Yorkshire Terrier at the table. So happy to see that Thai Stick is dog friendly, even indoors!

First time trying and so glad I did. Been looking for yellow curry similar to Osha Thai in SF and this was similar. Egg rolls & Thai iced tea were pretty good. Friend got spicy drunken noodles and boy it was she liked it! It was almost noon and surprised it wasn't crowded yet perhaps because it was raining. The lady was friendly and attentive. Had cute golden statues & couple tvs.

Thai Stick is an amazing restaurant in downtown Millbrae, just off the exit from SFO airport! When you walk into this restaurant, you feel like it's more of a home feeling as you're immediately greeted by staff and seated with a friendly smile. The place is simple, but the food is soo good! I've been here many times and the food never disappoints. My favourite is the minced chicken, Thai spicy hot level with a fried egg on top. My friend ordered pad see ewe noodles with beef and looked and tasted so good! When you're having your meal, staff check on you and make sure you're satisfied. The owner and cook Paul is often in the kitchen making the delicious meals, but will occasionally walk around and chat with customers. The ambiance feels more like you're having a family dinner at a home with a relaxed atmosphere and conversations with staff. The price point is where you'd expect for a good, filling meal. If you're in Millbrae, I suggest you go give it a go! Parking is street parking and fairly easy to find a spot with parking lots around.

Food was great! We had yellow chicken curry and prawns with vegetables in bean sauce. Very friendly family service. Changed TV for us to playoff game. Was quiet in the later dinner hour midweek. Nicer than typical strip mall Thai restaurant.

    Papaya salad- bland
    Sandra P.

Was craving Thai food and was in the area. Unfortunately, this place did not hit the spot. The papaya salad was lacking in flavor. It was rather bland and did not have the sour, sweet and spice i was yearning for. The chicken pad Thai also lacked flavor and did not meet expectations. The pineapple fried rice had Chinese sausage in it which I found strange. It lacked the savory flavor I'm use to from having tried this at many other Thai establishments. We were the only one eating there and I'm not surprised why. The carpet also looked like it had not been vacuumed in months. The chicken satay was good but the peanut sauce was super watered down. It's suppose to be thick and creamy but instead it was watery and once again lacked flavor. Came hungry and left disappointed. I won't be back. I'll stick to King of Thai which is all the way in SF but at least I know I'll be satisfied.

Panang Curry Rice Plate with chicken
    Lauren T.

Surprised by how many low reviews are here. Wouldn't call this place amazing, but it's reasonably priced with good portions. I got the panang curry with chicken rice plate and it was a solid dish. I asked for it to be medium spicy, but it was VERY mild. Unlike most local Thai areas I like that this place gives you the option of "rice plate" to include rice in your meal with a smaller curry portion. Service was okay. We were the only customers dining it, so it's not like we were competing with other tables for attention.

I might consider getting the fish on the side since the sauce made the breading a little soggy. The green curry chicken was very good as well. Broth could be a little thicker, but flavor and spice level were great. Not too soicy. The fried chicken over fried rice was pretty good, with a nice crunch to the chicken. It was pretty empty when we got there, so service was fast and cordial. All in all, it's one of the better Thai spots I've been too. I've actually been here a few times, but finally got a chance to review. One thing to point out, however, is sample tip calculation includes the sales tax. Just a little nit that always seems to bother me.

My husband ordered a Roast Duck Noodle Soup, our little one ordered Fried Chicken Over Fried Rice, I ordered the Massaman Curry with Chicken, and we ordered Fried Banana with Ice Cream to share. The Roast Duck Noodle Soup tasted delicious it was not too heavy on the lighter side not too salty and overall we all thought it tasted well. The star of the show was the dish our little one ordered the Fried Chicken Over Fried Rice everything about this dish married well with each other and tasted spectacular. The Massaman Curry with Chicken was ok it wasn't my family's favorite, the Roti and Cucumber Salad that it came with was ok Roti too crispy for me, Cucumber Salad was super small portion I was expecting a bigger portion and the Curry itself was a tad bit too salty for my liking...I find that it would have been nice if it was served over a bed of rice instead of with Roti. Also my Curry dish was full of chicken pieces and very little potato pieces...please please more potatoes next time. As for the dessert it was good can't go wrong with dessert. Also at one point one of our plates had a little dead gnat on it but the waitress was so attentive when I pointed it out to her she changed the plate setting right away, thank you!! Maybe when I come again next time I can get a different dish. Other than that the place is well kept small and tucked away from a busy street, I believe my family and I know of this restaurant because we passed by a few times while going to other neighboring stores and restaurant.

Curious, as I've always bemoaned the general lack of Southeast Asian options around, but, for whatever reason, I would always pass by without a second thought. However, after finding out from one of my old coworkers that this was where she'd go to whenever she had cravings for her childhood favorites, I knew I had to check this place out...and come back to try even more! Ironically enough, while Ipoh's location makes them super convenient to get to (there's lots of street parking around and SamTrans, BART, and Caltrain are all a short walk away), their nondescript appearance can make them easy to miss if you aren't looking. However, inside, this place is great! The vibe is super cozy and they have tables for groups large or small. As for the menu, it's extensive and chock full of options, from staples like Hainanese Chicken, Laksa, Mee Goreng, Nasi Lemak, Char Koay Teow, and Roti Canai. With nearly 70 other appetizers, soups, noodle soups, vegetarian, poultry, seafood, beef, lamb, stir-fried noodle, rice plates, and desserts to choose from, though, that's far from all they have to offer! -- (#A01) ROTI CANAI - Malaysian Crispy Pancake with Curry Sauce I've had this a few times now (and still no photo) and it's been really tasty every time. The roti is flakey with a lot of layers to it and I LOVE the curry dipping sauce that comes with it. Definitely worth getting! -- (#NR01) CHAR KOAY TEOW - Stir-fried Flat Rice Noodles with Shrimp, Squid, Bean Sprouts, Chives, Eggs, and Soy Sauce I've had this twice and I'm a bit torn. The first time, it was terrific - the noodles were cooked well, they didn't skimp on the seafood, and the dish was straight up delicious. However, the second time, the noodles were overcooked and the dish felt light on seafood. -- (#NR07) NASI LEMAK - Coconut Rice with Peanuts, Chicken Wings, Hard Boiled Egg, Chicken Curry Acar, Onion, and Chili Paste Ehh...this was just okay. The chicken curry was rich, the chicken wing was crispy and moist, and the rice had a strong coconut flavor. Sadly, though, the rice felt a little grainy/undercooked, the acar was really tart, and I wish the chicken had more curry. -- (#N02) LAKSA MEE - Spicy Red Coconut Curry Soup with Yellow Noodles, Shredded Chicken, and Mixed Vegetables Not the best laksa I've had, but it was one of the better ones and easily one of the heftiest. Not only was there a generous amount of chicken, but there was a ton of veggies in this, too. That said, it did make this feel like it didn't have enough noodles in it. -- (#D1) MALAYSIAN ICED TEA Not quite what I expected, but not bad either. I thought this was going to be more like a regular iced tea, rather than a milk tea, but at least it wasn't overly sweet nor overly milky. -- (#P01) HAINANESE CHICKEN with Chili Ginger Sauce A bit different from Chinese Hainan Chicken, but I liked this a lot. The chicken felt meatier, was far more tender, and it didn't have a bunch of bones. I also liked that they drizzled on some soy, but it did make it a little on the salty side. -- (#V03) STRING BEANS BELACHAN - Sauteed Green Beans with Garlic, Onions, and Malaysian Shrimp Paste Sauce To be honest, this was pretty unremarkable. On the plus side, the sauce on this was good and the string beans weren't overcooked. On the other hand, the string beans could've been blistered more and could've used more of the sauce. -- (#BL03) BEEF IN GREEN CURRY with Potatoes, Eggplant, Okra, and Green Beans Other than the choice of meat (I would've preferred chicken), this was great! While I wish the curry had been richer/creamier, it tasted spot on, there was a fair amount of beef, and it was loaded with veggies. Beyond the food, service here is pretty good as well. The workers are all really nice and happy to offer suggestions/help with the menu, the kitchen gets dishes out relatively fast, and I love that they don't really try to rush people to leave even at the end of the night. Since there just don't seem to be many Malaysian restaurants in the Bay Area, it'd be easy to say that Ipoh ranks among the best. However, the things I've tried have legitimately been pretty good. Nothing in particular may have amazed, but it's more than solid and I'd absolutely come back for their Hainanese Chicken, Laksa, and the first version of the Char Koay Teow I had!

They do have outdoor seating, not that it would help much when the lunch crowd is huge. Since the store name emphasizes on Hainan chicken, i havent quite explored their other menu items. First time I had the Hainan chicken rice plate, another time I had the noodle version. Funnily I find their rice plate version smaller portioned than the noodle soup, however it's not a true Hainan chicken experience without having oil rice. Both dishes serve Hainan chicken with scallion oil marinade and roasted peanuts. While noodles have oyster mushroom and spinach, rice plate has pickled veggies. Overall it gets the craving settled, its not the greatest though. The noodle soup was an interesting option. It feels a bit like when youre making noodle soup at home and just tossed in random toppings. I had corn, spinach, oyster mushroom. Definitely not a combo I see commonly. The soup was not bad, its drinkable, not salt at all. However its a bit odd to pair it with Hainan chicken, perhaps better with fishcake or meat balls, I did see a meatballs version. They do have other noodle style and broths to choose from, such as hot and sour, laksa. They do offer fish paste noodle if you want a teeny tiny bit more protein. Overall food is okay. It's nothing to rave about, even though I love Hainan chicken.

We happened to come on a day their wifi was down, so it was cash/zelle only. Haha. Thats crazy. Luckily that did not stop us from dining in. I loved the duck confit, it was cooked so well and the duck slices were so jucy even though it seemed like a small portion of meat to pair with your noodle. It was the perfect portion after all. I enjoyed the BBH, though it is different from what I am used to. I enjoyed the oxtail, it fell right off the bone. My Hubz enjoyed his Pho Dac Biet as well. Though we wish the broth was hotter. There was plenty of meat and oxtail in his bowl. Would we come again, yes!

Menu is on a QR code that was provided on the table. One good thing about ordering on the phone is that it makes it easier to list what everyone wants. The downside is that six people's orders were messed up. I did see the waitress transfer the orders that was on our phone to what seems to be her phone. The waitress had to come back several times to confirm what we ordered. I ordered the oxtail-only pho, but they brought out the combo oxtail pho instead. To their credit, they did give us a free bowl of pho for the mistake and did not charge us the automatic surcharge for a large party. I understand that restaurants get busy, but it was still a frustrating experience.
