I was a bit apprehensive coming in here, but Hubby really wanted to so there we went... The restaurant is spacious, plenty of rooms for larger party. It was about 1/3 full when we went on a Tuesday evening and there were quite a bit of people coming in for takeouts. The restaurant is dated, very dated, but it seems family owned, family run, there was even a young 10-13 years old girl who helped out with setting up tables. The menu was quite large with various options, the prices were very very very reasonable, on the lower range even..surprising for Milbrae. They offer all their meals either a la carte or as rice plates, wow! Usually, rice plates are for lunch only in other places. We shared a bowl of Tom kha soup, hubby ordered sweet & sour chicken entree and I had paid see ew with pork. Tom kha was rich in coconut milk, quite thick, flavorful, and the thai seasonings (lemon grass, galanga) were quite bold. Loved it. The bowl was the stone bowl (usually you see this at a Korean restaurant, for their hot stone bibimbab or tofu soup). Pad se ew had really great flavor, perfectly seasoned and had the smoky wok fragrance. Portion was good for 1. Hubby's sweet & sour chicken was good too, colorful with variety of veggies and pineapples. He liked it a lot. We also ordered a glass of thai tea. A bit sweet for my liking, but perfect for sweet-loving hubby. Service was friendly, the old grandfather was very sweet and kind. He was very accommodating to the customers and very helpful. But it's also the name of this restaurant, and I didn't even read the reviews before ordering. I just clicked on Pad Thai and Tom Ka Gai, click, tip, wait 34-44 minutes, and it's here. Not sure if the person who delivered it also knows what Thai sticks are, but I'll bet she does. The food was A-OK-ish. Color of the Pad Thai was a little too gray somehow-- it wasn't, like, aesthetically-pleasing to the eye, but had decent flavor. Probably swung more in the two-star range, but to their credit, I asked for hot, and it had pretty good spice. Gets ya right here [pointing at cheekbone with middle finger to indicate approximate area of right sinus.] Served in a clear plastic salad container. Stay gnarly and BPA-free, Burlingame. The Tom Ka was also A-OK-ish. Arrived piping hot, which also swung this review into the three-range for me. Weird place. While the food was fine as.... Food, it all felt a little bit not like most Thai places I go to. We got takeout here and sampled a few things. The fried taro and mango sticky rice was good, but the chicken satay's peanut sauce was very watered down, almost like a soup consistency. I called to order food for home and was greeted nicely when I arrived through the door. One of the few places left in Millbrae that have the hometown feeling with the prices you can't beat! There was a few customers inside dining and they looked very pleased with their dinner and the surroundings made sure that you could eat comfortably. Now on to the masterpiece I ordered yellow curry with optimization of spice level and I went with a medium spice curry with chicken. It was magical and also came with rice. I also orders their extremely tasty fried taro fries that came with tamarind sauce for dipping. You always gotta head there for that! After months of not leaving the county I geared up for a trek across the bridge. What was heretofore a routine occurrence was now cause for anxiety; not the bridge-crossing per se, but the opportunity it presented: we were off to visit friends. Friends. All 4 of us had been practicing social distancing and had seriously curtailed every activity that might've been even the most remotely risky but who knows? Who knows what that unmasked jogger who passed within two feet of me on a recent hike may have bathed me in? Who really knows? We sat outside for hours and when we finally decided to get Thai food we learned that Thai Stick was closed until 5 p.m. So we sat and talked some more then some present went to pick up food. Here's what I will say about Thai Stick's take-out food: * It is packaged very oddly. Inside of plastic to-go containers, rice stood alone beside a packet of foil. Into the foil they'd dumped/wrapped the entree. Since most things we ordered were in some sort of sauce, the foil wrap was an odd choice. It made me feel like a) serving size was small and b) getting at all of the sauce was unnecessarily difficult. Someone should rethink the to-go packaging here as it's definitely not showcasing the food optimally. * Then again... there really wasn't any food that was deserving of a showcase. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the food itself but this was not bold and vibrant Thai food. It was perfectly adequate, unremarkable Thai food. Were someone to again suggest Thai food in this area I'd likely say "let's try somewhere different this time" but if I lost that battle I'd shrug my shoulders and say "okay". Surprisingly good pad Thai! I ordered some simple chicken pad Thai, spicy to go and they quoted me 10 minutes. It was ready right on time. Lots of chicken, drier stir fry versus really wet which I like and they definitely made it spicy! The vegetables were also nice and al dente. Wow. Wow. I've been stupidly snobby and judgy, and so so so wrong. I love Thai Did but can't eat chili and spicy. Way too many Thai places can't cook with flavor but without adding a ton chili. This place never disappoints, e.g. their Tom Yum soup with tofu is incredible: screams fresh with mushrooms, tomatoes, and lemongrass, vaguely spicy and salty and sour. A perfect balance of flavors. Also love their vegetarian eggplant with bamboo shoots and basil. Ginger rice is a must, though their sticky rice is also fantastic if you like the texture. Bao, the chef came out from the kitchen because we had been telling our server, Zack, who is always on the ball with service and infinite kind. There were no curry in my red curry - only vegetable, they forgot the put in the padthai and gave us chicken satay. There was hair in two of our dishes the crab fried rice (which didn't have any crab, and filled with curry powder), and the egg plant. Overall, it was terrible. Was looking for something to eat late on a Sunday and Thai Stick was across the street from my hotel. Ordered the Pad Prig with rice. Reminded me of some meals in Thailand. Wish I would have ordered it a bit hotter. The "medium" spice was adequate but I like my Thai food to make me sweat a bit. The depth of flavor was there just not spicy enough - but that was my fault as I was afraid to get the next level up having never eaten here before. That should've been the only warning we took and walked back out and find somewhere else to eat. We got sat next to an old tarp that smelled like bad body odor, another red flag. We ordered a couple of dishes to share. I got a Thai tea to try this place's authenticity. Before our food could arrive we and my bf watched a cockroach crawl across the table, we should've left at that point but it was too late because the orders were already being made. The Thai tea was extremely watered down and the food was so-so. Our waitress was rude and ignored us the rest of the time. Only when the bill came did she show any sense of "service". We finally got to try it the last time we were in town and I was surprised that it was open so late as indicated by Yelp. The place is a little dark and smells of... bamboo? It had good taste and wasnt dry. The beef was a good amount in this dish. It also comes with chinese broccoli. The portion size was good enough for 2 people... The BBQ chicken over fried rice was tasty. Sliced grilled chicken pieces served over fried rice and with a sweet and sour sauce on the side. It was a good dish and the chicken was moist. I was worried it would be dry but thankfully it was not. Service was not great at first. The lady that took our order didnt seem to wanna be bothered by being there at all that night. We looked at the menu and ordered a few of the "usual" items that we tend to order at other Thai restaurants. Our food arrived shortly after and we immediately noticed the appearance of the food that sat right in front of us. The pad thai did not look or taste like anything that we are used to. The color was off, the texture was off, and so was the flavor. Not good. The peanut sauce that came with the chicken satay was a bland and watery mess. We ordered a trio sampler, and in fact, all sauces served were flavorless and not authentic. The crab fried rice was orange in color and probably doused with flavoring because I did not see one chunk of crab anywhere on that plate! The Thai iced tea was also quite bland. Everything was quite basic, bland and boring. And to boot, they tack on a mandatory tip. Also, the man that stands behind the counter just stares at you all night and can make you feel somewhat uncomfortable. I also noticed a strange smell in the dining area after walking back in from washing my hands. I think that's why the front door was wide open - to air out the strange smell inside the place. I was craving Thai food for lunch and was told to come here to get my fix. I was a little apprehensive at first because it looked like a giant diner from the outside but once you step inside, you're taken into a world of Thai with high ceilings and lots of space. We were sat down immediately and ordered right away. We started with the obvious pad Thai, pineapple fried rice, Tom yum gai, and red curry. To note, when I told them 'please make these spicy', they had to follow up with a "are you sure?". Something I probably won't ever forget. The pad Thai was absolutely amazing. When the dish first came out, the noodles looked a little under-sauced but all the flavors were there on the first bite. I seriously could not stop picking at this even after I was full because the noodles were cooked to PERFECTION and so nice and chewy. This is definitely my favorite dish at all Thai restaurants but I was blown away by Thai Stick's rendition. Pineapple fried rice--again, this is one of my other favorite dishes and I was so happy with the way this was presented in terms of flavor and texture! Perfectly seasoned with all the right peppers and spices to match. The only downside is that the pineapples are really tiny and there aren't any nuts or raisins (which I usually find in many other places'). Tom yum gai--the only soup I will ever order. Loved the spice factor and tangy flavors that this soup had. I have to say though, they definitely added in the 'hot' factor with all those peppers. Really good! Red curry--I guess this was the only dish I didn't really care for. It was good and I liked all the vegetables they added into the curry, but it just wasn't to my tasting. Stopped by this place on a weekday during lunch with a few coworkers. It doesn't get very crowded during the day; there was one large party having a group lunch and a couple one-offs, yet this seemed to be enough people to start putting a dent in the quality of service. Our server may have been having an off day, but she seemed generally annoyed. It happens! The food sits right in the middle - not fantastic, but not inedible - at least the Panang Curry, anyway ($8, w/ rice). For an extra $2 during lunch you can add a side of soup, salad, egg roll, etc. I added Potstickers, which resembled traditional potstickers that have been rolled in panko and fried. They were friggin' amazing, and outshone the actual meal, which had chicken boiled past recognition and wasn't very exciting otherwise. We also have "my aunt's eggrolls." Which is their aunt's egg rolls, goodness knows if my dear aunt was still alive she would have done a better job. The egg rolls were still cold and raw in the middle. Um, how hard is it to fry an egg roll? We also ordered the spicy eggplant with beef and the spicy duck curry. Those weren't great, but they weren't bad either. Even though they didn't have a lot of customers (around 5-6 tables), service was surprisingly slow. It took about 20 minutes to get our food after we ordered, and the dishes were lukewarm. Even though their menu doesn't explicitly state which dishes are vegetarian, they can definitely accommodate vegetarians and vegans. Most of the curries, noodles, and stir fries can be made vegetarian. I decided on the vegetarian eggplant ($10.95), which came with soft tofu, eggplant, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and basil leaves. The flavor of this dish was really delicious, and it had a nice balance of tofu and veggies. I appreciated that it wasn't too oily. The portion size wasn't very big, and it didn't come with rice, so I felt like you could get food for a better value at many other Thai places. This definitely isn't my go-to Thai restaurant, but they do open until 1am, so I'd come back if I needed a late-night meal. The pros are its hours, good number of vegetarian options, and decent-tasting food. The cons are slow service, dirty silverware, and not the best bang for your buck. read more

I venture out to California sometimes. I ran into this place. Not too bad. All though my curry was a little bit watery, But the grilled chicken was good lol you can't really screw that one up. I recommend anyone in the millbrae area to try this place out. Good customer service :) read more

A solid Thai restaurant to dine in whether you're by yourself or with a large group. This corner hot spot is one of the few good Thai eats. Normally, I'm not a fan of Thai food, but this place converted me with their eggplant, duck, and a few other delectable dishes. My experience with their fish wasn't as good given all the bones, but that's because I'm a lazy eater. The decor and ambiance inside is a bit above average considering what you would expect after seeing a neon sign from the outside. Although we had to remind the nice waitress of an order and conserve our water according to their policy, which is plastered on the walls, it was a yummy experience. read more

Millbrae's one and only, Thai Stick. Decent food, convenient operation hours which also plays well with my budget. Craving some food late at night? This is definitely one of the places that I think of past midnight. Their variety of fried rice always starts up a craving for me whenever I get hungry late at night. I think they drugged it. I cannot go to Thai Stick without ordering their fried rice.... Setting is very homey and welcoming, not too sluggish or fancy. The setting almost seems nonexistent,.. you just eat, have a good time, and back on your way with a happy full tummy. Not just being on the safe side, Thai Stick CAN kick it up a notch. read more
