I order take out from here regularly since my home is just a few blocks away. The Good: When the food is good it's REALLY REALLY good. I typically stick to curries with either chicken or tofu additions. The staff is always very friendly and consistently give me a 20 minute pick-up time. My favorite kind of candies are waiting at the register for me to snag a couple and my Thai Iced Tea is always perfect! The Bad: The food can be inconsistent with spice (I always specify 3 star) and flavor. Other minor things are inconsistent like rice side sizes and if I'm allowed to substitute certain items. Some servers say yes others no so I always try my luck with the understanding that sometimes there are circumstances behind their answers. Unfortunately, I almost never dine-in here. The atmosphere really bugs me. It strikes me as generally confused. Bright colorful lights with odd displayed wines along side fake painted bricks, comic book prints, step and repeat wall, neatly folded napkins, paired with old time toys and Italian cafe music. It's too much for me but reading other reviews seems like other people find it entertaining. We went in expecting better food! The restaurant has a unique atmosphere but there were two people sitting with their food yet we had to wait over 40 minutes for our food to show up. The service is polite but they did not keep us updated or offered any apologies. We ordered salad rolls, thai fried rice and mango sticky rice. Salad rolls were $6 and had absolutely no flavor. Tofu pieces were placed inside as though they were pieces of diamond. Fried rice was oily although its flavor was acceptable. Mango sticky rice was perhaps the saving grace, otherwise I'd have rated them 2. Also, did I say they are pricey? An entree with tofu costs $12 whereas the average in Portland is $10 at best. read more

Just ate here with my mother- after being bothered by flies during our lunch in the back corner, we switched tables to avoid them and discovered to our horror that there had been an enormous pile of RAT DROPPINGS at our feet at our first table. That is what was attracting the flies- we were disgusted and left abruptly. We pointed the rat droppings out to our waitress, she did not act surprised when we made our allegation. If you like Chinese/American Thai then this might be your place. If you are looking for authentic Thai look elsewhere. All of the dishes save the papaya salad had far too much sugar. I have given Thai Square many opportunities to impress (and I'm really not that picky!)... The first time I got food from here it was great (cashew chicken, about a year ago). The last 3 times I have ordered from Thai Square I have been super disappointed. The service is slow, but friendly. And the food-not that great. The first and maybe second time I ate at this restaurant well over a year ago I thought the food was delicious; the ambiance is warm and inviting. At that time they had a great stir fry on their menu with lots of fresh veggies and basil to which you could add any protein. I have ordered food again a couple more times and have been disappointed. In my opinion, the crispy chicken basil is not anywhere on par with the basil veggie stir fry. I've asked each of the last couple of times I've been there and they insist there's been no changes in ownership or management just changing up items on the menu. Seems like from some other reviews, not everybody who experienced their food when it was really excellent thinks it still is. Please bring back the tasty stir fry with veggies and basil. Tonight, out of about 60 dollars worth of food, there was ONE item that was good. So disappointing. The yellow curry, which is my go-to, didn't even have the usual beautiful color and the flavor was off. This corner location may finally have a winner. I live within walking distance so I'm curious when a name changes. I decided to give it a try as some of my other local places have recently changed their cooks, so some things just don't taste the way I want. There were two of us dining at my place so I ordered food to go. I had to go there to order as they don't have an online menu. I opted for Green Curry Chicken, Salad Rolls, and an appetizer combo. The Green Curry had plenty of white meat chicken, well cooked, not over cooked eggplant, and bamboo shoots in a creamy green curry sauce, accompanied by white rice - both were very good. The Salad Rolls really were the best I've had in a while, the peanut sauce was fine. The Appetizer Combo was devoured so it must have been pretty good too. I will order from them again, but I don't know if I would dine in. The décor is nothing special, there are lots of big windows, there were some fresh flowers on tables, but there were also some that were old and dying. I also noticed that while there were only two parties dining on a Friday night at 6:30, there were several tables that had not been cleared when I first ordered or when I returned to take my food home. read more

The spring rolls were good and the service wasn't bad at all. I went out of my way to check this place out and I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back. With less peanut sauce I think the chicken dish would have been good, it had some great veggies. With some heat, the soup would have been good as it also had a nice mix of ingredients. I had been looking all over the place for a new thai food restaurant to try out. I remembered driving by this one and searched on it for yelp. The reviews were good enough, so off we went. I was with my mom and my boyfriend. Pressure was on, because my mom requested thai for dinner. It was nice, because we didn't go anywhere near downtown to deal with traffic or parking. We parked in front of the restaurant and there is plenty of street parking around. You walk up to the front of the restaurant, which has several types of herbs and garlic growing on a bench. When we got inside we all were happy seeing that we weren't the only people in the place, and several tables were occupied. It was nice and cool inside, so it was nice to come in out of the heat. The staff were very kind, they sat us right away and took our drink order after a minute. Guys...they chilled their wine glass! So when my Pinot Gris came out, it was so dang refreshing, I had to refrain from gulping it down. They have wine, beer and liquor. But I'd have to say, what they are most famous for- is their thai iced tea, which comes in a cute little pitcher or big one. About half the tables inside were enjoying them! They also have a green thai iced tea, which is not my thing, but it sounds fun! They have a LOT going on with their menu. To the point that we were just flipping through and reading and reading. Options are great, but then I was super torn! After way too much over thinking I went with their a boring Pad Thai, with chicken, but it was one of the best that I've had, so I know I'll be back to try other dishes. I asked for a side of the peanut sauce, which was different than most places, it had more crunch to it and at the same time seemed more runny, it was good and obviously homemade. My mom got fried rice with tofu and my boyfriend had the pad see ew. So no, we weren't very adventurous. But it had been so hot, so we were excited to just go try something and have some left overs. And leftovers is an understatement. Their portions are huge! I felt like I had eaten a couple of servings and my plate still looked full. My mom and boyfriend had been picking at my plate as well. So keep that in mind if you give this place a try- which you should. We loved everything about it. Next time we'll get crazy and try one of their salmon dishes, which is really intriguing. Ambiance is very pleasant and clean, staff were friendly. Chicken fried rice (minus the frozen peas & carrots) was a solid 4 stars. Good flavor and reasonable quantity. The lemongrass chicken was mediocre, more like 2 stars-too much peanut sauce slathered on top and the broccoli was lukewarm but the chicken was good quality (thin-sliced chicken breast). It slips my mind the other dish we ordered... it actually wasn't what we ordered but was very tasty (shrimp, mushrooms, green and red peppers, onions mixed with a brown-colored light sauce). We'll probably go again sometime but not necessarily in the near future as there are other Thai restaurants in the Sellwood area worth giving a chance (according to Yelp). read more

This place has an excellent atmosphere from the second you walk through the door until the moment you head back to your car (or bike!) service is outstanding! The place is small and newly remodeled. Great trendy decor, very friendly attentive service staff. Most of all, the prices were fair- but- when you hear the saying "you get what you pay for"- you can forget that coming here! Dinner was $12.95 and $13.95 for full sized huge portions of pumpkin salmon curry and lemongrass chicken pad thai ... Most places with this fresh, hot, outstanding flavurful quality are priced between $15-17 a plate. We had so many leftovers and barely had room for our cheesecake egg rolls dessert. We will be back and we WILL refer to our friends! OH I almost forgot- they serve free refills of the Thai iced tea!!! How generous is that!? read more

I'm still not sure if this restaurant's name is supposed to be a play on "Times Square." I'm guessing no based on all of the pictures of London on the walls. Then again, I'm pretty sure the London pictures are all from Ikea, so maybe I shouldn't read too much into them. After all, what does London have to do with Thai food? And what does any of this have to do with the food? Aside from the fact that this restaurant is literally a show room for Ikea products and is in a somewhat odd location, it is very very good. Their noodles, curries, and soups are all great. I think this is place is as conducive to sharing as any Thai restaurant, so if you want to do family-style Thai this is your place. I'd also recommend their hot Thai tea (not every day you get that option). Service is super friendly. There's plenty of street parking. They have a giant projector (last time I was in they were showing re-runs of the X-Games, which I found hilarious). It's a Thai restaurant with something of an identity crisis, but that doesn't stop it from being a great place for a casual meal. I'm a fan. read more

The interior is... odd. Not bad, just odd. Lots of Ikea flair in here, but you know what? That's a nice change from the typical Thai restaurant decor. Big bay windows, lots of light, good music (trip-hop, very mellow) and well-lit. Clean in every place I looked. The food is really good - I had the Pad See Ew with tofu. The gentleman who took my order asked if I wanted it hot, and I say a very affirmative heck yes, but it wasn't very spicy when it came out. I had to add chili to make it pop. Still, the flavor was good, the noodles weren't too stuck together (a notorious problem with pad see ew) and the veggies were cooked just right. Tofu was really flavorful. I also got a decent portion for the price. All in all, I would go back and plan to. They're not too far from where I work currently, so I have a feeling this will be a regular lunch spot. They were very accommodating, they had a lot of call in orders at the time of our arrival; they messed up our order and only got two of our three plates out, they gave us a 10% discount due to the mixup. The crab puffs were filled to the brim with crab stuffing, one out of the six ($7) was over cooked, we however did not get a replacement. The glass beef noodles were good, seemed a little over cooked and slightly too much white pepper (smelled & tasted like a petting zoo). The crispy chicken had deep fried fresh holy basil, caramelized basil leaves! Their thai iced tea comes with a little straw wrapper rose on the tip, really good - I got two refills.
