I really like this place! Ambience is good for the "college town restaurant" experience. Service was good with plenty of waiters to go around. Seating is a bit tight, but it just adds to the ambiance. The food was very good starting with the appetizers, soup and entrees. The beef in my meal seemed to melt in my mouth it was so tender and it tasted delicious. I went all in ordering my meal "Thai hot" and wow, it was exquisitely hot! It wasn't just some Sriracha sauce or pepper flakes poured on top before serving but peppers actually cooked in. My dining companions enjoyed their "milder" meals equally well. Pricing is a modestly more, but worth it. Thai food is usually more expensive than Chinese, but less than authentic Japanese fare. I am definitely looking forward to returning here for my next Thai food experience. Definitely best in Denton so far that I've tried. I say 4.4 stars. The only downside is the lack of parking. Great Thai food! Service was impeccable! There were four of us and we all tried something different. Every dish was delicious.

The crème de la crème of north Texas Thai food. I used to eat here once a week at a minimum. It's a small space, so be prepared to possibly wait especially on a Friday or Saturday, but it's in such a convenient location so you can always walk around and grab a drink or browse a book store, comic shop, or any other place on the square. The wait time passes quickly, and it's worth it. Service is ALWAYS 100%. Servers are friendly and attentive. They're always down to recommend menu items or even entertain your party with a bit of socialization on a slower night. Food was ALWAYS 100% (are you seeing the trend?) My favorite dish was always the krapow, but the pad thai is also great. I usually got the fresh rolls for an app and occasionally the sweet mango rice dessert. They're BYOB, so feel free to come prepared with a bottle of wine. I moved out of state 2 years ago, and I think about Thai Square all the time. We were taking an impromptu country drive Sunday and ended up in Denton. It had been so very nice and we had seen some beautiful North Texas countryside that we had never traveled through before. We were checking out the town square and decided to have some dinner before leaving town. Totally unfamiliar with Denton; I had bookmarked a few places and we settled on a place with 4.5 stars in the square area named Thai Square. Our plan was to get something to go and find a park with picnic tables. I'm happy to say there was such a park! McKenna Park was just minutes away with a beautiful setting sun and a great western view. They called us and our order was ready in less than 30 minutes. Ordering was not particularly easy though. We first tried to call it in and they simply couldn't hear us over the din at the other end of the line. I said I would come inside and do it. Inside was not much better. Kitchen noise. Music. Patrons dining in a small area. A plexiglass screen and oddly, I still couldn't stand in front of the person taking my order. Frankly it was painful. The food was still warm after our trek to our picnic table and the sun was a big orange ball. There seemed to be a fair number of adults at this park just to take in the sunset. I had the Chicken Pad Kee Mow with flat rice noodles, egg, bell peppers, carrots, tomatoes, yellow onions, and basil sauce - medium heat. ($11.44) My spouse had ordered the Green Curry, Thai hot with chicken and eggplants, green beans, bamboo shoots, and bell peppers. ($11.44) He also had the Fresh Veggie Rolls with lettuce, carrots, vermicelli noodles, basil, wrapped rice paper, served with peanut sauce, sliced and topped with crispy shallots, ($5.18) I'd say it was all pretty typical.I couldn't taste any basil in the fresh veggie rolls. They suffered from a lack of seasoning and were flat without the peanut sauce. Some soy or sambal would have been appreciated. Some of the vegetables in my husband's curry were small. Less than bite sized - almost diced. Unusual for curry. The flavor was good and he loved the heat. He always does. My Pad Kee Mow was average. Not very saucy; but the flavor was perfect and it had been months since I had fresh rice noodles. They were delicious. I simply have had better Thai food. The flavor was there; but the dishes were inconsistent and needed a larger vegetable presence. I understand their fear of their customers at the pay window in these virulent times. Came here before but forgot to leave a review! It was a 5 star then, and a 5 star now. My boyfriend goes to UNT and he took me here for dinner one day because he heard that Thai Square was good. We both love Thai food and we've tried a few Thai restaurants around Dallas and so we had high expectations. Well, they definitely did not disappoint! Starting off with the Crispy Shrimp Roll, it was so delicious! It came with a sweet sauce in a small shot glass and it complimented the shrimp roll perfectly. We were so satisfied and happy with our appetizer choice. For entrees, I got the Beef Pad Kee Mao. spicy level HOT It wasn't too saucy or too sweet. Also "HOT" was the perfect spice level for someone who loves spicy food. The portion size was perfect. I was able to finish all of it but I left with a food coma. My boyfriend got Chicken Pad Thai. spicy level HOT I took a few bites of his dish and it was also perfectly balanced with all the flavoring. He said it was one of his favorite Pad Thais. Thai Square is my go to place for Thai food in Denton. I eat here at least once, sometimes multiple times a week. My favorite thing to get is the pad see ew with tofu and medium or hot spice level. The weekday lunch set comes with fried vegetable spring rolls and a side of soup. In my opinion it's a great deal. In the past I've also had their green curry, Thai fried rice, sukiyaki stir fry, duck in orange sauce, chicken in garlic black pepper sauce, and Thai iced tea. I can't recommend this place enough Just as an anecdote I've had a few friends work here and the owners always treated them really well, which I consider a major factor in supporting businesses. read more

Came in on Saturday at 4pm. I just wanted to try some Thai food. Waited by the entrance about 2 mins to be seated. Finally someone acknowledged me. At the time there were two tables dining only with total of 5 guests. An Asian lady from a distance pointed to a table, I guess there was she wanted me to be seated. She didn't even come and greet me. She dropped off a glass of water and I haven't seen her since. She disappeared. I sat there for 10 mins and eventually a new waitress came and asked if I have ordered food yet. I said no and if they might have forgotten about me. She said they were doing shift change. How is it my problem? I ordered pineapple fried rice and it was cooked in reasonable amount of time. The waitress dropped off the dish and turned away without asking if I need anything else. I have to call her back for soy sauce as there weren't any condiments on the table. She came back with it and she was gone. Another waitress took over. Very confusing. As I was eating. Three more table walked in, the dinning room started to fill up. I saw three workers spraying chemical on display counter and mirrors. This shouldn't be happening during service. It created a bad scent in the dining room. My table is next to the waitress work station, very noisy as they started talking and joking. I can hear almost everything. Overall, my first time experience is not pleasant. I don't believe I will be back. There are other Thai restaurants in town worth mentioning. read more

I dined here on 30 Sep 2023. We came in for a 1:39ish lunch. Let's start with the positive....the food. It was pretty good. Was it the best Americanized Thai food I've had in Denton? Probably not, but very far from the worst I've had. All in all, the food was solidly OK. The service was atrocious. Wait times from seating to taking a drink order were in the neighborhood of 7 minutes. The space is small, and they had 2 servers and some other front of the house person out front (manager/other server), so I was a little baffled. They seemed to have plenty of time to discuss topics behind the bar, they just didn't seemed to be concerned about taking care of guests. Refillable beverages were low across the dining room, other tables seated after us were stuck with the seven minute-ish greet times, etc... When the server made it over, we gave her our entire order drinks, appetizer, and entrees all at once, because it seemed like visits from the server came about every 7 minutes, so we didn't want to drag this out. Approximately 7 minutes later, our drinks showed up as well as our appetizers, and our server was jetting off as we had to stop her to ask for flatware. To her credit, our apps arrived separately and we did not have our entrees served on top of them. There appeared to be plenty of communication between the front of the house staff, just no sharing of work. Each server clearly took care of their own tables, and ignored the other servers tables....I'm still not sure what the "manager type" was doing other than taking up space and consuming oxygen. I sat for 5-7 minutes with an empty tea glass waiting for a refill, when finally the other server did a " water pitcher pass" around the dining room. She tried to pour water in my tea glass, and I mentioned that it was actually tea, and I would like another please. She responded "ok", but Zo didn't realize she was simply acknowledging that I would like another ice tea, but she had no intention of bringing it out. About 5 minutes later, I finally walked up to the bar area where the three front of the house staff were talking and enjoying a refreshing beverage of their own and asked if I could please have another ice tea....it made its way out 4-5 minutes later....baffling since I handed them my glass from the table, and everything was visible to me when I did so.....the rest of service was similar, but you get the point... In short, the food here is ok, maybe even good, but the service is so bad it's a hard pass for me. It's a shame, because I had been to this location (maybe different owners) about ten years ago, and it was pretty amazing....in any case, if it is the same, it has entered really downhill. I worked for years in the restaurant business, the front of the house staff should have been fired, and replaced with literally anyone....if they are family, then find them a job in the business they don't suck at. read more

Our family is very Thai-cuisine aware, and everyone is always satisfied with what we get here whether it's a curry or Pad Thai. Desserts here have always been great, too. We came here for a quick dinner. We waited for about 30-40 minutes before being called for our table. I picked up the phone call only to be hung up on, and we were right outside the restaurant. As soon as we got in, our table was already given to someone else. Regardless, we waited a bit more and were seated at an unclean table, the floor under our booth were filled with utensils and various trash. We ordered the massaman curry and pad thai. We asked for water and only received it after we asked a second time after our food had come out, which we found unacceptable in addition to the dirty table. The food was surprisingly tasty and spicy. I had low hopes for being in Denton, but was pleasantly surprised. Arrived on a Saturday evening. Restaurant was lively and two tables full of to-go bags at the entrance suggested that there was a robust takeout service as well. Little did we know those tables full of take-out bags would be problematic for us. We were seated promptly, got our drink orders, and an appetizer of fresh spring rolls. Spring rolls came out cut into bite-size pieces and was a decent appetizer portion. The peanut sauce was a good consistency. Between the three of us seated at the table, we ordered pad-woon-sen, Tom Kha soup, and green curry. The flavors were pretty good. I had added flat noodles to the soup however in hindsight I don't necessarily think it added much to the dish so next time I would just probably go without or try a different noodle. I did order it Thai hot and while it was spicy, it wasn't the burn-your-face-off hot that I've experienced at other Thai restaurants. They probably could've kicked it up another notch or two. The green curry had good flavors and the mild that we ordered probably could've been a medium and handled easily by our teenager. Overall food was very good. Reasonable prices too. So why only three stars? What a server was very polite, but everything about the timing of food service was off. Took awhile for our appetizers and server brought them already apologizing for the wait. The curry came only to be followed five minutes later by the noodles only to be followed by another five minutes later with the soup. We are a family that does not eat until everybody is served so makes it challenging when not everybody has received their food at the same time. The waitress, again very nice, apologized and stated that they had a lot of to-go orders that backed them up. I am not in the restaurant business so there may be something I am missing, but I would imagine dine in customers should take some sort of priority over takeout orders. That was the biggest disappointment. We will probably give it another shot and hope the service aspects rise to the same level of the flavors of their food. read more

I'm so excited to have found a new favorite Thai place!!! I just have to drive 45 minutes from Irving to get to it. North Irving use to have an amazing Thai place on MacArthur called Blue Ginger but it closed down. :( Well, I was looking to grab a bite while I was waiting on my wife to get out of class at UNT and I happened upon Thai Square. Aptly named because it's on "the square" in town. I kept overhearing/eavesdropping on folks saying how different the place looks. I wouldn't know since this is my first visit but it is a really nice looking place. Great decor, comfortable seating, solid wood tables, and one of the classiest things I noticed immediately... big band/swing music from the 40's gently playing in the background. It's midday Friday so I ordered off the lunch special menu, AND SPECIAL IT WAS!!! I got the "set" (meaning appetizer and entree) for $11.95. I decided on the steamed Thai dumplings and the green curry with chicken "Thai hot". They politely started me off with my soda and a hot cup of some kind of coconut milk ginger soup concoction that blew my mind. I wasn't expecting it and it was spectacular. I would order it by itself on a rainy day in the fall to cheer me up. Then came a 3 succulent dumplings and a thick dipping sauce with nuts in it. This made me nostalgic for Seattle and all the wonderful dim-sum we ate every weekend in the international district. Sooooo gooooo!!! The green curry was perfection. I never get nervous about ordering the hottest level of heat here in Texas because even then I'm disappointed half the time. Not today, ladies and gentlemen. "Thai hot" is an adequate amount even for those in need of an abundance of heat. It was thick and flavorful with an aroma to die for. I don't usually care for egg plant but this dish has forced me to change my mind and question everything I use to know about egg plant. After cleaning the plate I was full. No. I was stuffed. However, my earlier eavesdropping let me in on a secret not on the menu. THEY HAVE GREEN TEA ICE CREAM!!! This brought the flames in my mouth down from a 3 alarm fire to a smooth sunburn. First visit here for Sunday lunch. We had been referred by a fellow world traveling foodie, so we were looking forward to it. Located just off the square in Denton, if you try to come here during the week, parking can be an issue; street parking iffy, and pay lot filled with area workers. After 5 or 6 it clears a bit. Inside is cozy, nicely decorated but not a lot of seating, and concrete floors and walls resulted in a higher noise level than might be expected. Even though it was busy, we were seated immediately, drink order taken quickly, and service continued to be prompt and friendly. Menu was diverse with all the standards. My wife was going to have the Panang curry, but changed to green at the last minute. Having spent time in Chiang Mai, I opted for the Kao Soi Chiang Mai. Both dishes were excellent and seasoned authenticity. Spice levels were a little low (wife opted for 'true Thai', I requested 'double Thai') and while warm were still not at "authentic" levels. But for first visit I was happy. We passed on desert as the portion size (served in martini style glass) didn't look worth the price, but can't attest to flavor. Probably one of most authentic Thai restaurants in the area currently. My Yelp rating scale guidelines (based on similar price/service areas. Im not comparing McDonalds to a 5 star fine dining place!) 1 for atmosphere. Is it new and trendy? Does it fit with an ethnic motif? Is it upscale, is it a dive (in a good way). 1 for service. You can have a great meal with poor service, but that also differentiates a five star from a lower rating. 2 for food, because that's what we're here for. How does it taste? Is it prepared as you ordered it? Does it have that extra "wow" factor? 1 for Will I come back again? Face it, if I'm not ever coming back, it wont earn a fifth star! read more

Great Thai Food!! I was fortunate to come across this place on yelp. I was looking for lunch specials that were quick and good and this place hit the spot! Even though it's a casual place it still feels like it's a fancy place simply because of the lighting and the furniture. The hosts are very friendly and will offer you advice if asked. Since we went for lunch, we got the lunch special menu. I was between the yellow curry and the spicy basil fried rice. I asked which one was more popular and she suggested the Chicken Spicy Basil Fried Rice. So that's what I got. My girlfriend got the Chicken Cashew Fresh Garden. Both came with a complimentary soup of the day which was Egg Drops Soup. We also upgraded to get an appetizer with our orders. I got the Shrimp on Toast since it seemed to be so popular on yelp and my girlfriend got the Steamed Thai Dumplings. First of, the Soups tasted great. It's always interesting to try Asian classics in different places. It tasted more on the chicken Broth side, but it was good nonetheless. The appetizers were great as well! The Shrimp on Toast tasted very similar to what I know as "tortitas de camarón" same idea. The dumplings were cooked perfectly and still remained super juicy in the center. Both entrees came out perfect and tasted amazing! The garden vegetables could use a little more chicken but that didn't take away from the great combination of flavors. They has asked me how hot I wanted to go. Being a Hispanic I said how hot is hot and she said, it's spicy. The Thai spicy is very very spicy. I'm glad I listened! I got the hot and had the perfect I can't stop eating but I'm in pain feel! Careful with the heat!
