Saw Thai Smile and other restaurants nearby and stepped in to eat Thai Cuisine. While it took a while for the server to get me seated, I ordered Panang Curry, which came really quick. I was in the area for work, looking for a good Thai restaurant. The reviews are right. Great find on my Asian cuisine list: I went for take out; got some Fried rice chicken and Pad prik pow. This is certainly one of the first 'authentic' Thai eateries I've found in the Chattanooga area - more so near Cleveland (where I live, approximately twenty minutes away.) It's worth the drive, by far! Foremost, Thai Smile is very vegetarian-friendly; tofu can be substituted into virtually any dish, as I did with the musamun curry - for those who eat meat, there are multiple choices such as chicken, shrimp, etc. There are spice 'levels' that are explained on their menu: 1-3 (considered American-grade spicy) and 4-6 (considered Thai-grade spicy.) For those like myself that aren't accustomed to spicy foods, this is a godsend - much the same for those with more daring tastebuds, I assume. The flavor of the masamun curry was rich and seasoned perfectly; although I requested a 1 on the spicy scale, I do not felt as though I sacrificed any flavor in doing so. My only disappointment was the bubble tea - I tried strawberry and my fiance ordered taro - and I've had much better in the Chattanooga area. Lastly, the service was extremely friendly - our waitress was prompt, attentive and personable. Even a member of the management visited our table while we ate, merely to check up on the quality of the food and if it was enjoyable. Establishment and restrooms were clean and tidy. Tucked in a pocket of downtown Chattanooga is something to smile about. Thai Smile is not the most exotic place in town in terms of ambiance, but it is well worth your time. In fact, it you've been to Thailand, this will feel like the real deal. During our visit the entire staff were of Thai lineage. The restaurant sits right next to the central public parking in the heart of the entertainment district on the south of the Tennessee River. The Tennessee Aquarium and IMAX theatre is nearby. Our group of three were seated immediately in a "full-ish"house on a Saturday evening. The service was not the most charming, but efficient. For a Saturday night, the food followed our order in a reasonable time--y'know right about the time that our conversation started to wane. The food was delicious and they got the spice requests, from 0 to 5, just right. Our party included a spice request of 0, 1 and 4. No one felt like the ratings were not followed to a "T". After visiting Rock City and Ruby Falls, I and my friend were so strafing, but we didn't know where to have dinner. That was first time for us visiting Chattanooga. Thank to Johanna, Uber Driver, who gave use suggestion and called the restaurant. It was Sunday, but this restaurant was open. We ordered Pineapple Beef Curry, Pad Thai and Thai Ice Tea. Foods are awesome, and its taste matched our preferences. It is just like Indonesian curry, but this is fresh, spicy, with paprika and cashew. Two thumbs up. Pad Thai is also delicious. If you're reading this: DO NOT ORDER ONLINE. Their website is insecure, so do not trust it. What that means is the traffic (including your cc #) isn't encrypted. Have eaten here many times over our 10yrs in chatt. Spent $60 on takeout and what a disappointment. Pad Thai had no flavor must have forgotten the sauce, order house speciality mandarin chicken and was servers frozen breaded chicken breast on a bead of lettuce, the price is almost double that lunch is and the portions are the same size. The waitress argued with me loudly just because I wasn't following her way of pronouncing. She added people like me were illiterate and hard to communicate with. Our first meal after arriving in Chattanooga for vacation. Our food wasn't very warm when it arrived at our table -- the table next to us, the food was steaming when they got theirs. I got the tom ka soup/chicken. it was pretty good, a tad sweet for my taste. I got the garlic and bla ck pepper with chicken entree, which was very tasty, although could have been a bit warmer. My partner got the golden triangles appetizer (she had to ask for the chopped peanuts accompaniment) and the Super Supreme veggies. both were good, but again, could have been served warmer. I am so disappointed in this place. We have been eating here for two years and we will no longer be eating here again. They messed our order up and the food tasted very bland. We called and asked if they could fix it for us, and the manager told us we could come pick up some chili flakes and add to it and they couldn't fix it because they were too busy. However, for being in a smaller town I think it works. The Pad Thai is typical except that theirs comes with both chicken and shrimp. I love the food at Thai Smile! I'm so glad we have a place in town that can get pad thai right. The only down side to this is establishment is that some of the servers understand very little English. They cannot understand order specifications, you pretty much have to point at stuff in the menu. One server in particular never put my order in. I waited an hour for a tom kha gai soup only to find out the order had not been entered into the computer. The best that management could do to remedy the situation was give me the "staff discount" (which wasn't good enough for me). read more

My part of five arrived in the late afternoon. Our experience started with being seated at a table standing in water from having been cleaned. No one seemed to notice, so we had to ask for it to be dried when a server arrived to take our drink order. That was about the end of any attention that would count as service. A second server was attending to us the rest of the time. She was indifferent to our needs at best, but was entirely inattentive. If we had not had problems with our food, I doubt we would have seen her again. Three of our entrees were served cold. We sent them back to re-heat. When the dishes came back and had a chance to really taste the food, two of the curries were the wrong kind. One of my party sent his curry back to be re-made, the other was already frustrated with having had to send it back once and decided just to eat what was presented. By the time the curry replacement was served, the rest of the party had finished eating. There was no attempt to refill our beverages, even with all of the trips the server made to the table trying to get our meals correct. When we attempted to flag down the server about the drinks, she just passed right by our table. Two of the party requested to-go containers. We were brought only one, and the server never returned. We had to go to the server's station to ask another employee for the second container. As we were paying, we told the cashier about our experience and asked to speak with the manager. We were told there was no manager on the premises. The cashier did not even offer an apology. The only positive comment to make is that the food was tasty, even if some of us ended up settling on eating food that was not quite what was ordered. However, the poor service, uncaring attitude of our server, and exasperating experience overall eclipsed anything redeeming about the food. Needless to say, none of us will be returning. read more

Thai Smile's got good food and service, though parking of course is the typical downtown hassle. It's good that they're open on holidays! :) We enjoyed a few different dishes here, but my top 2 recommendations would be: 1. Pad See Ew - almost 1" wide noodles with a few veggies (carrot, brocolli, but thankfully no onions) and your choice of meat.. all flavored with a sauce with a slight bit of sweetness. 2. Goong Kai Kua - similar to the above, but the flavor perhaps has a bit more garlic to it, excellent as well. (yes, there is more than just pad thai at thai restaurants! Who woulda thought, right?) ;) The portions are fairly large and filling (I had considered ordering a bunch of appetizers, but thankful I didnt). The spiciness is up to you for every dish (select from 1-6). They can knock you out with their top level spice from hell, but I figured I'd rather taste my food - all you need is a slight kick if that (maybe 1-2). All in all, a solid Thai place, we'll be back. Oh my! My friends and I were craving Thai food after the Connooga convention on Saturday, and the closest restaurant was Thai Smile-- which none of us had visited previously. I ordered my usual fave, Beef Pad See Ew, and my friends ordered Tofu Massaman Curry and shrimp rolls. Our food arrived promptly, and we all didn't engage in much conversation because we were too busy chowing down! I have to say that this is one of the best Thai restaurants in Chattanooga area! I did a carry-out order when I was here for a night. I ordered Pad Thai (mild plus), side of peanut sauce, and some shrimp or crab things (not worth ordering). I'm not sure how fresh this was made as it was fairly cooled off when I got home. The chicken in the dish was super dry and it was very mild almost no flavor. This is a really good Thai restaurant in the tourist section of downtown Chattanooga. It sits in a portion of an old row of buildings that's been revitalized. The ambience is nice and the wait staff is very friendly. We ordered an appetizer of spring rolls and I must say, they came out HOT - do not chomp down on one as soon as it gets to the table. I ordered my usual pad Thai and my wife got the teriyaki chicken. The portions were very generous and the taste was really good. I did ask for a side of peanut sauce for my pad Thai because the noodles were a little dry, but not bad. I've never paid for a side of peanut sauce before, until now ($2). I've been there several times now, and the service keeps getting worse. I was there a few months ago, and the waitress stopped visiting our table altogether. We had to chase her down for drink refills, checks, etc. Recently we tried going back again, just to see if it was one bad day. We waited 80 minutes from the time we were seated until the last person got their food (party of 4...not a large group). I will not be returning. As far as the food goes, it is fairly average Thai food. Nothing terribly special about it. Much better options exist in the Chattanooga area. read more

The atmosphere was not the greatest and didn't make us feel like hanging out longer than it took to eat our meal. The food was pretty good and the service was okay nothing great though.
