Overall the food was good. Service was not. My golden tofu and pineapple fried rice was good. My friend's crab Rangoon was good as well. Her chicken in the chicken fried rice was under seasoned. As for the service our server, Devin, was attentive to the other tables but was not for us. We were not given straws I had to get them myself. Once ready for dessert, she ignored us while checking in on other tables. When we were able to get her attention to inquire about dessert she let us know the kitchen was closed. We were ready well before the kitchen closed and would have appreciated her checking in before then especially as she checked in frequently on the other tables. The food here is very delicious. I will sum up all the negative reviews for you - the service. The waitstaff is friendly but they are always short staffed. Only 2 on the floor where it should be 4. On a Friday I saw people walking out after sitting at a table for 20mins with no service. No water either. Half the tables had dirty glasses on them and not yet bussed. The 2 serves were clearly overwhelmed. But the worrisome part was the one server said "usually 2 servers is enough. We are just so busy tonight." He was clearly mistaken. Nice but mistaken. Restaurant only 1/4 full. But, food is delicious. We especially loved the chicken satay, steamed dumplings, and pad see ew. It has been on my list to try... always looking for a better thai place in the area. This is not it. Sweet tea had that pink mold flavor... if your ever cleaned sweet tea spigot containers as a waitress... you know that flavor. My kid said it tasted weird... and I am pretty sure it was that soured spigot sludgy slime. Thai tea was fine thank Buddha!! We got the sampler platter. 4 Fried potstickers, 6? shrimp, 2 spring rolls, and 8 fried tofu. All meh- potstickers tasted like the non airfryable dough ones. Spring rolls tasted like they had fermented cabbage (like sauerkraut) in them?? Shrimp good. Tofu is um... well... never my favorite... and this time wasn't changing that opinion. Also had crab rangoon appetizer. Again very hard dough overcooked... like the no airfryer freezer food that are a fail in my home. Not restaurant quality at all! Think dough is the worst crab rangoon fail I have ever had. Beef and basil to go for my hubby was good. So... I guess... SKIP appetizers... which are usually my favorite. 60$ plus the 12 tip. 72$ Ouch for lackluster dining. RAIN and Thai Basil are still our favorite in Chattanooga... but no Thai here is rivaling what we had in Alaska. Shame. read more

I had the opportunity to go with a friend visiting town. We were able to be seated right away. There were a few people inside. The server brought us menus and took our drink order immediately. Since I love Thai food I knew what I wanted to try. I ordered spring rolls, crab Rangoon, and kaprow chicken with minced chicken light peppers. I also ordered a Thai tea. Overall the food was really good. The only challenge was about half my plate was onions which I mentioned to the staff. It was really flavorful however. I didn't need soy or any other sauce. So sad to see this place is closing July 6. Just moved here and at our third outing saw the sign. All the usuals are great, spice is well rated, portions are generous which is a must with 4 kids who eat like adults. Service can sometimes take a minute but you can tell it's fresh and piping hot when it comes straight to the table. read more

Came here for lunch on a Friday and the waiter waved for us to sit anywhere. We sat and waited for a while and he finally came by and dropped off menus and said I'll be back when I can. No drink orders no anything. We sat for a while more and finally gave up and left. Very disappointed in the way they handled us. The service here was pretty good. I felt that our server did a great job. We walked in and got seated right away. It wasn't packed at all and we came during lunch on a weekend. I think there was only one other table in there. The prices here are a little higher than what I'm used to. The lad na talay had a really good sauce going to it. The thickness for the gravy was also perfect. The taste was pretty good. They didn't really have the usual condiments or anything though that you would usually get at other Thai restaurants to put into your ladna. The noodles here were also thin noodles. The type you get in pho soup. I've usually had my ladna with thicker noodles than this. I also had their pla tod (fried fish). It was a piece of fish filet for $17.99 on top of some iceberg lettuce. It also came with a side of rice. The sauce on the side wasn't bad at all, though. The sauce tastes similar to their ladna sauce. read more

Me and my buddies came in craving Thai food. I'm Thai, and was a bit confused to Chinese music playing in the background. Nothing wrong with Chinese music, I was just expecting Thai culture at a Thai spot. The waitress seemed stressed out, and was the only worker on the floor. Went to Thai Smile for lunch 11/10/20, since I actually was in the office for a change. I walked to the restaurant since there is no free parking, however, I saw there would have been meter parking. If you can find a meter, definitely try to avoid paying the outlandish parking charge for Republic Parking lots. I was seated quickly, but there was one waitress for the whole dining room. Yikes! This place can have slow service with 2 servers, much less one. However, although it took a while for her to take my order, she was definitely doing everything she could to service everyone. I suspect they did not anticipate the size of their lunch crowd. I ordered the wonton soup and the Pad Se Eu with a #3 spice. The wonton soup is delicious. The broth is flavorful making the wontons secondary in the dish. There was a balanced amount of green onion and fried garlic to garnish. Yummy! The Pad Se Eu was plentiful and had so much flavor. The spice level is complete BS- anything past a 1 is extremely spicy and unenjoyable to eat, and I have experience with spicy food. I happened to notice "service charge of $17" on ticket just as I handed over card. When my card was returned with slip to sign, the original ticket was NOT included again, so I asked what the service charge was for. "Oh, that's a tip." Had I not seen it, I would have tipped on signature slip as we were only a party of 4. Don't order anything over a spice level of 0!!! I like spicy food but the 2 and 3 melted my lips off and ruined every dish. When I called and spoke to the owner, she was SO RUDE and said they don't measure their spices so it was my problem, not theirs. So on my Chattanooga IM weekend one night walking near Ross Landing around downtown decided to give this Thai restaurant shot for dinner. It was pretty good. I ordered the Pad See Eu (minced beef) and Fried Rice (chicken). The fried rice was solid. It was nice and hearty with lots of chicken and vegetables. The worst kind of fried rice is when more rice then anything else but not at Thai Smile. The sauce cook the rice in is tasty. Later that night for snack had the rest of it. The Pad See Eu. I enjoyed the wide noodles. It was cooked to perfection. Again with the tasty sauce and ample amounts of minced beef and vegetables. Hearty. Most of the menu feel is reasonable price or par for Thai restaurant. The portion size not single size or think double on the menu. Is really share for two. Since I was by myself plus all about carb loading before the race. The more carbs the better!! The only reason fell short of five stars is service can be slow. I felt like it was work not only getting my bill but at the same time ask for to go boxes. Honestly pretty patience person. If there were a ZERO star I would put it. Water came out with fried rice on the bottom, or backwash, not sure. Food was Luke-warm, and their "spiciest" sauce was a joke. Asked to "sub" white rice for fried rice, but was charged the entire amount. All in all for 3 entrees we dropped 72$...FOR LUNCH. It is by far the best Thai food I've had since moving to Chattanooga 1.5 years ago. I love Thai food and I always enjoy Thai Smile. It's not my favorite Thai restaurant but I find it to be very consistent. I've been here several times (a few years apart) and the food has been good and speedy. I find the establishment to be a bit cold (temperature, not staff) so you might want to bring a jacket or light sweater if you tend to be cold, like me. On this particular occasion one of my girlfriends and I ordered satay, tom ka gai soup, beef fried rice and Thai coffee. The satay was cooked well (I didn't taste the peanut sauce) and the soup was delicious, as usual. I've actually never had tom ka gai from a Thai restaurant that didn't fill me with complete and total joy. The beef fried rice was a nice portion and wasn't oily, as some Thai places (and many Chinese restaurants) tend to be. The Thai coffee wasn't too sweet and, oddly, it complemented the beef fried rice in a nice savory/sweet way. I was disappointed, however, that they didn't have several items that were actually on the menu. The two I remember were the curry puff and the fish cake appetizers. The waitress let us know they were going to update their menus, but I would have preferred she tell us what was no longer offered before we even started ordering (read: as soon as we sat down with menus). As it went, my gf attempted to order several items and each time was disappointed with the answer: "Oh, we don't have that anymore." This is a pet peeve of mine, but I digress. We were greeted as soon as we entered and the waitress checked on us but didn't bother us. Good customer service experience.
