Our group of 20 was seated immediately. Our server arrived promptly and took drink orders. Drinks were delivered and food orders were taken. After a very brief wait our food was delivered HOT!!! I beef with pad Thai. It was delicious. My first time at this restaurant. It won't be my last. Reasonably priced, large servings, and tasty. WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE?

Pretty darn delish. Mixed veggies & tofu.

This is our only Thai in the Villages. It is good overall. Post covid they decreased their menu options which is a shame but whatever you get will be authentically fresh and delicious. It's a shame there aren't any vegetarian appetizers on the menu. Tofu and veggies either ginger sauce is my go to staple here.

What a gem! Lunch specials are excellent! Traditional Thai cuisine with lots of charm. Service was friendly and efficient. Ambiance is upscale without being pretentious. I enjoyed the shrimp with ginger sauce. Very fresh and delicious! Hubby had the Mussaman curry with chicken. He enjoys spicy so he requested the Thai hot spicy level. Excellent! Will definitely return soon!

This little place near Lake Sumter Landing is not a stand out, but it gets a passing grade from me. I thought the kitchen skimped out on my shrimp dish. And the sauce was a tad watery. But the flavor was good. I never like it when a server asks me what I had when figuring the check. But the team effort to keep my drink refilled was nice. I think the interior could stand a refresh. All in all, I won't seek it out, but won't stay away. A solid "meh."

We love this restaurant. Food is prepared and plated with care. It is always fresh and delicious. Restaurant is very clean. Service is always great and servers are dressed in beautiful traditional clothing. Prices are great as well as the location.

I eat here every time I come to The Villages! They have several delicious gluten-free options and the lack of heat/spice in their dishes makes my sensitive tummy very happy. The service is always really fast and friendly, and the dining room is comfortable and casual. Thai Ruby is my favorite spot in Sumter Square. Highly recommend.

Stopped in for lunch. Had green chicken curry and chicken pad Thai. All delicious and gluten free! Restaurant was very full. Service was quick. They will increase the spice level upon request. Ambiance was nicer than the typical Thai strip mall establishments.

Mixed feelings on Thai Ruby - there were a few hits, but the errors were too severe for us to give them a higher score. Arrived on a Friday early evening and promptly seated. First time visit to location and found the decor and staff appearance very pleasant. Booth seats are low compared to table height - almost felt like we were grazing at a table, it was so high. We were given time to review menu and then placed order. We only had water, but when they'd come to refill our glasses, they splashed a lot on the table, leaving large puddles. For starter we tried the appetizer sampler. Presentation on a duck decorated plate was good. The wontons and rangoons were very tasty, we loved the curry. The shrimp tempura was a bit mushy inside, and the egg rolls were ok. The biggest disappointment on the sampler were the spring rolls. fried and tough. We mentioned that to our server when they came to clear that plate. We then waited a good 10/15 minutes after our appetizer plate was cleared, watching food come out to tables that had been seated well after us and we finally called over our server to inquire about our meals. We watched him check the computer screen and call over the other lead server and then both of them left the dining room for a few moments. He finally came back and said our food was coming out soon. No reason as to what happened, but we suspect our ticket got lost - things happen, but at least step up and say what really happened. A minute or two later, my meal arrived and I was turned off by the presentation. I had chosen the lettuce wrap (which is actually an appetizer). I'm expecting 3 or 4 wrapped bundles on meat inside lettuce leaves, instead I'm given a heap of ground chicken and peppers and a 1/2 wedge of lettuce - guess I'm supposed to make my own wraps... We explained our dislike with the appearance of that dish and asked for it to be removed - can't even say how it tasted as it was a turn off. We still ended up waiting a few more minutes before my dining partners dish (pad thai) was brought to the table. While it was quite large in portion and easily shareable, we found it lacking for flavor and were not overly impressed with it. Being located at Brownwood Paddock Square in the Villages, there are lots of parking options and easy access. We're going to keep searching central FL for a better Thai restaurant, this one doesn't do it for us.

They were so impressed on their first visit that they brought another neighbor along the second time, someone who owns a fine‑dining restaurant and is essentially a Michelin‑level chef from Washington State. He loved his dish as well, which definitely raised my expectations. Today, my spouse, two friends, and I decided to give it a try. As someone Asian, I'm not easily impressed by restaurants claiming to serve "authentic" Asian cuisine. I look for specific flavors, presentation, and a level of authenticity that matches the culture they represent. When I walk in, I look at what people are eating and who's working in the kitchen and dining room. Our server greeted us with a very thick accent and struggled to understand our questions about the menu. We found ourselves repeating things several times, which made ordering a bit challenging. When I began placing my order, I told him my first dish -- Shrimp Mei Fun -- and before I could continue, he immediately turned to my spouse for his order. I had to stop him and let him know I wasn't finished. The food came out quickly, but during the wait, no one checked on us or offered drink refills. When one of our friends' dishes arrived, the server said something none of us understood, and she seemed frustrated that we didn't respond. Our friend eventually realized the dish was meant for her -- except it wasn't what she ordered. She asked for Kung Pao Chicken but received General Tso's. She decided to keep it, and fortunately, everyone else's orders were correct. Now, the food itself? Delicious. Truly. If I were rating only the dishes, this would be a solid 5‑star review. But service matters, and unfortunately, the service fell short in several ways -- communication issues, no follow‑ups, and an incorrect order. Because of that, the best I can give is 3 stars. I would return, but only for takeout -- and I'd double‑check the order before leaving. It had the potential to be a great spot to bring my Sunday golf group, but after today, I don't think they could handle a party of 16.

REVIEW SAKURA JAPANESE RESTAURANT Today, 31 December 2025,…read moremy wife and I decided to have lunch at the Sakura Japanese restaurant in Colony Plaza, The Villages, Florida. We arrived at 1400 and there was a large number of people eating lunch, but seating remained available and our waiter soon appeared. We ordered a CocaCola and Green Tea while we perused the menu. My wife decided on the Tempura Bento box with pork katsu, while I chose the lunch combination of sushi and sashimi with salad and soup. We were both delighted! I found the sushi/sashimi combination to be delicious; more than I could comfortably eat after the salad with carrot-ginger dressing and clear soup. I took a taste of her pork katsu and found it surprisingly moist (much more moist and appealing than other Sakura restaurants here in The Villages). I was pleased that my tea was refilled on request. (One interesting aside: My sashimi plate was decorated by a variety of fresh spice leaves and a mysterious nest of what appeared to be shredded daikon radish with a green glow emanating from within. The green glow turned out to be a small battery powered green LED for ambiance!) All in all, an appealing performance by this Sakura at Colony Plaza; we shall return.

A Somber Sushi Soirée with Room for Improvement (2 out of…read more5) My father and I decided to explore the All-You-Can-Eat (AYCE) sushi experience at this local restaurant, arriving promptly at 5:07 PM--a time I noted for reasons that would later become relevant. At first glance, the restaurant had a quiet charm, though it leaned more toward somber than serene. Aside from us and one other couple, the dining room was notably empty, which set the tone for the evening. We were seated quickly and placed an order that included a variety of sushi rolls, appetizers, and fried rice. Unfortunately, the service was sluggish noticeably so. Given the strict 90-minute dining limit, the extended wait times for food (and even for something as simple as extra napkins) felt more strategic than situational. To the food: The appetizers were a mixed bag. The shrimp tempura had an odd aftertaste, and it was clear the shrimp hadn't been properly cleaned always a disappointing oversight. The grilled beef skewers bore little resemblance to the menu description and were drenched in an overly sweet sauce that overwhelmed the meat. On a more positive note, the gyoza were pleasantly crispy and flavorful, and the spring rolls, while unremarkable, were decent. As for the sushi, it was serviceable but underwhelming. The rice-to-fish ratio leaned heavily in favor of rice, and the overall freshness left something to be desired. The teriyaki beef was actually quite tasty but again, it arrived swimming in sauce next time (if there were to be one), I'd recommend ordering it on the side to truly enjoy the meat. The service, regrettably, remained cold throughout the meal. At exactly 6:12 PM, our server informed us that our 90-minute window had expired despite the math suggesting otherwise. Perhaps she was simply having a rough day, so I'll leave it at that. In the end, while taste is indeed subjective, especially when it comes to sushi, I've had far more memorable and satisfying experiences elsewhere. For us, this visit fell flat, both in flavor and hospitality. Sadly, it's not a place I see myself returning to anytime soon. NOTE: Tips are included so be careful as you may end up tipping twice.
