Date night! Finally , my wish to try Thai Ruby is granted. We went in a Monday night around 430 pm and were seated in the front window . Yay! I Iove the decor and lighting in here. Lights are low, dark wood, dark blue seating.... Totally different than other Village Square restaurants I've been too. In my opinion, the quietness inside is just wonderful for a change. We were served by Jack. My husband and I both appreciated his quiet friendly grace. He served a rather high maintenance table behind us with such patience, it was amazing to hear . No we weren't eavesdropping, they were being ridiculous. Anyhoo, we both got the spicy shrimp pad Thai and the spicy level was perfect. Hot enough to make me lightly sputter but just once. . My husband said, I could go back there again while I had already planned on what I'd like to try next time. read more

Food continues to be good at Thai Ruby. It's our only option for Thai in the Villages, unfortunately. My three star rating has to do with the ever increasing prices and ever decreasing menu options and ingredients. They used to have some good vegetarian appetizers like summer rolls, but those disappeared from the menu. Thai Ruby has done this ever since COVID and it's absurd. I was shocked to get two lunch items that jumped from the $18 menu price to $22 just for adding vegetables. That's over $50 for lunch, which is not ok in any reality. If we were people who didn't leave the bubble, I suppose we'd put up with this. Since we travel quite frequently, however, we will save our craving for Thai food for elsewhere. Why don't other Thai restaurants open somewhere close? There's definitely a market for them. If I choose to eat here, I'll limit it to their defined lunch items only. read more

After not eating here for quite some time, I thought I would give it another shot. Many of the appetizers are around $12, a Thai tea is $9 and Tom Kha Gai soup for two is $13.99. Tonight we ordered the Panang Curry with chicken for $18.00. The dinner entree comes with zucchini and red peppers. I explained that I can't eat peppers and politely asked if they could substitute broccoli or green beans. I was told they can't make any substitutions and could only provide extra zucchini. Why??? The soup was served warm, almost room temp, and the portion is small considering the size of the bowl. The curry was served with an extremely small portion of rice, about the size of an ice cream scoop. About halfway through the dinner, the server returned to check on us and I asked for more rice. When the bill arrived, I noticed a separate $4 charge for jasmine rice. At no point did the server mention there would be an extra charge. I could buy a whole bag of rice for that price! I brought it to the manager's attention and was told that it's considered a side dish and the price is listed on the menu. Unfortunately, we were not offered a menu after ordering and nobody verbally advised us that it would be an extra charge. Charging $4 for a small scoop of rice, without informing the customer beforehand, feels excessive and misleading. The food may be good, but between the high prices, refusal to accommodate a simple vegetable substitution and unexpected charges, the overall experience simply does not sit well with us. Their high prices, small portions, lack of flexibility and transparency has become frustrating enough that we will not be returning. read more

What a gem! Lunch specials are excellent! Traditional Thai cuisine with lots of charm. Service was friendly and efficient. Ambiance is upscale without being pretentious. We are in the process of moving into the area. We purchased a home in the Spruce Creek Country Club, we have been coming down a few times a month to work on the remodel. While we're down, we like to explore things to do, and of course, new places to eat. We live in Atlanta, which is far more metropolitan than Ocala, Belleview or Summerfield. We were craving Thai food. Most of the Thai places are 30 min or more away. Thai Ruby had great reviews and only 18 minutes away, so we gave it a try. I will say, upon entering, we were greeted warmly the staff was wearing beautiful traditional Thai clothing, the place was immaculately clean. All pluses when you enter an establishment. We ordered a few glasses of wine ( beer and wine only here) and an appetizer. We ordered the fried wontons which were stuffed with chicken, sweet potatoes, scallions and cilantro. They were fried crispy, and served with a house made Thai chili sauce (kind of). They were absolutely delicious. That's where all the "good" for the visit ceased. We both ordered pad Thai. Mine with beef and no bean sprouts, and the hubby had the chicken pad Thai just as described on the menu. First off, both the beef and chicken were both way overcooked, dry, tough and flavorless. They used peanut dust on top instead of actual chopped peanuts, and both were devoid of any vegetables whatsoever. My husbands did have the bean sprouts, but that's it. We're used to our pad Thai coming with a side of lime wedges, chopped cilantro, chopped scallions, and a least one ounce of actual chopped peanuts. Most traditional pad Thai have the components I mentioned above, as well as minced/fried garlic, shallots or red onion and pickled radishes. Essentially, the entrees were not good at all. I took mine to go, but it went in the trash when we got home. This is unfortunately a Thai restaurant that has Americanized their dishes to please an elderly American palate. No flavor, absolutely NO spice, overcooked and very very bland. On our next trip down, we'll be taking that 30 minute drive to Ocala to start trying those Thai places. read more

Since I still come here often I guess it's good. Have ordered most things on the menu. Wish there were more Thai veggies included in the dishes. Seems like mostly noodles and meat. I like Chinese broccoli rather than American so minus one for that and a sense of bean sprouts on some dishes. Service is usually friendly with an occassional impatient look. This little place near Lake Sumter Landing is not a stand out, but it gets a passing grade from me. I thought the kitchen skimped out on my shrimp dish. And the sauce was a tad watery. But the flavor was good. I never like it when a server asks me what I had when figuring the check. But the team effort to keep my drink refilled was nice. I think the interior could stand a refresh. Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing from start to finish. We were seated by our waitress/hostess, who immediately came across as unfriendly and impatient. I politely asked her what dishes did not have fish sauce (It gives me hives) and asked which menu items could be prepared without it. She quickly rattled off something, without explanation, leaving me confused, so I asked for clarification. She ultimately gave me two options -- peanut sauce or sweet and sour -- and I clearly chose the sweet and sour option as I hate peanut butter. When our food arrived, I took one bite and immediately realized it was peanut sauce. I confirmed this with the waitress and explained that I had ordered sweet and sour. She rolled her eyes and insisted I had not, telling me what I "did" order, which was that peanut sauce monstrosity. This was extremely concerning, as mistakes involving food allergies can be dangerous -- someone with a peanut allergy could have had a serious medical emergency and even die from such a significant mistake and flippant behavior. She asked, "well, how is it?" and I expressed dissatisfaction with a disgusted look on my face, she laughed it off rather than addressing the issue. She acted like it was my mistake. She rudely said, "do you want me to get the other one?" but I feared retaliation and thought the other one could have been laced with spit. Shortly afterward, she brought the bill and instructed us to pay before we had even started eating (I had that one gross bite), which felt dismissive and uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the food itself did not redeem the experience. My husband's meal lacked flavor and tasted boiled rather than properly prepared. Having spent a month traveling in Thailand, we have a solid understanding of authentic Thai cuisine, and this meal fell far short of expectations. Service should never feel confrontational, especially when dietary restrictions are involved. The overall interaction felt unprofessional and unwelcoming. I sincerely hope management addresses both service training and food accuracy moving forward. Maybe staff should write down orders and read them back to the customer instead of depending on their memory, to avoid any potentially deadly mistakes. read more

I eat here every time I come to The Villages! They have several delicious gluten-free options and the lack of heat/spice in their dishes makes my sensitive tummy very happy. The service is always really fast and friendly, and the dining room is comfortable and casual. Thai Ruby is my favorite spot in Sumter Square. Highly recommend. read more

Mixed feelings on Thai Ruby - there were a few hits, but the errors were too severe for us to give them a higher score. Arrived on a Friday early evening and promptly seated. First time visit to location and found the decor and staff appearance very pleasant. Booth seats are low compared to table height - almost felt like we were grazing at a table, it was so high. We were given time to review menu and then placed order. We only had water, but when they'd come to refill our glasses, they splashed a lot on the table, leaving large puddles. For starter we tried the appetizer sampler. Presentation on a duck decorated plate was good. The wontons and rangoons were very tasty, we loved the curry. The shrimp tempura was a bit mushy inside, and the egg rolls were ok. The biggest disappointment on the sampler were the spring rolls. fried and tough. We mentioned that to our server when they came to clear that plate. We then waited a good 10/15 minutes after our appetizer plate was cleared, watching food come out to tables that had been seated well after us and we finally called over our server to inquire about our meals. We watched him check the computer screen and call over the other lead server and then both of them left the dining room for a few moments. He finally came back and said our food was coming out soon. No reason as to what happened, but we suspect our ticket got lost - things happen, but at least step up and say what really happened. A minute or two later, my meal arrived and I was turned off by the presentation. I had chosen the lettuce wrap (which is actually an appetizer). I'm expecting 3 or 4 wrapped bundles on meat inside lettuce leaves, instead I'm given a heap of ground chicken and peppers and a 1/2 wedge of lettuce - guess I'm supposed to make my own wraps... We explained our dislike with the appearance of that dish and asked for it to be removed - can't even say how it tasted as it was a turn off. We still ended up waiting a few more minutes before my dining partners dish (pad thai) was brought to the table. While it was quite large in portion and easily shareable, we found it lacking for flavor and were not overly impressed with it. Being located at Brownwood Paddock Square in the Villages, there are lots of parking options and easy access. We're going to keep searching central FL for a better Thai restaurant, this one doesn't do it for us. read more

Cool inside, pleasant greeting on arrival. The booth offered to us was comfortable for two. Wife ordered Drunken Noodles with chicken, I chose Pad Thai with shrimp. We were both pleased to receive a spring roll with sauce and a small bowl of clear chicken soup with pleasant seasoning and some rice in the soup. Both plates were really really thermally hot when they arrived and on individual plates as shown in the photo below. We exchanged dishes while eating, and both of us thought that each dish was good quality and more than sufficient quantity. All in all, we both liked the drunken noodles better of the two dishes, probably because it had a more distinct and active set of seasonings. (The drunken noodles had a generous amount of Thai basil, which is what I think each of us liked about that dish). read more

This is the best restaurant I've had in The Villages. Food options are very limited in this area and this is the only Thai place within 20 some miles. I get so sick of fried American food when I visit my parents in The Villages. The menu is smaller than most Thai restaurants but they're very tasty and authentic. We loved the amazing chicken (peanut sauce), chicken pad see eew, and sweet and sour beef. The staff are very friendly and the food came out so fast. My sister didn't like her lettuce wraps (not on the restaurant just not what my sister expected) and they offered to take it off the bill when we didn't take the leftovers home with the rest of the food. They have a collection of four different items to spice your own dish with. And boy I can tell you they are good, I found it odd that they don't ask what heat you would be interested in so that's why I really never came but if you like spice ask for the condiment tray for spice. the waitress informed me which one was the spiciest. When you visit a restaurant and are asked to have a seat to wait for a table, the last thing you expect is to have other walk in patrons seated before you. I walked in as a single and the hostess seated a foursome in front of me, which is fair, you need to maximize your seating, but then sat a twosome in front of me. When I asked what was up, the hostess told me she wanted to sit me at a particular seat. That didn't bother me, but her attitude did; really snotty/shitty. I'm always super nice to restaurant staff because they have a tough job, so I told her thanks you, have a good night, and left. I've eaten at Thai Ruby about 15 times in the last year and although they service isn't fast, they are usually quite nice. Not today. Not sure if I'll ever come back. read more

This restaurant is in Sumter Landing in The Villages, and offers really good Thai food. I've been twice so far and we've tried the pad thai, appetizers and the panang curry, with both tofu and chicken. Everything was delicious, but the panang was amazing. The décor is tasteful and welcoming and the staff and service was wonderful. We just recently bought a house down here and look forward to this becoming one of our go to dinner spots. During our drive to Orlando, we tried this restaurant for the first time. Even on a Monday evening, the restaurant was very busy, and we wanted a booth but none were available. I believe they are so popular because there are no other Thai restaurants nearby. We began with their Thai Ruby sampler, which includes egg rolls, spring rolls, and crab rangoon. Because we don't eat pork, I asked our server to replace the egg rolls with spring rolls, but she said they couldn't. This was disappointing because it would have been so simple to provide extra spring rolls instead of the egg rolls, but they refused to make any substitutions. We ordered their sweet and sour chicken and panang chicken curry for entrees. Both were nothing special. I didn't care for the Penang curry because it contained too much coconut milk, and the sweet and sour chicken was overly sweet. I've had much better Thai food in other restaurants. The service was quick, which was a plus. We didn't have a memorable dinner though since both entrees were just okay. See photos below. read more
