My husband and I decided to stop in during a long drive from South Florida. We love stopping by The Villages from time to time because we really enjoy the atmosphere. The reviews were positive, so we thought we would try it out. The food was delightful! I enjoyed the Panang Beef. The flavors were great. Everything tasted so fresh. The meat was pounded perfectly making for very tender beef. My husband got the chicken fried rice. I have to say that as good as mine was, his was better! The veggies were so perfectly prepared that it was obvious that each item was cooked to order. The rice was seasoned to perfection. This is authentic Thai food! (I come from the DC area, and there is no shortage of Thai places here - but this place puts them to shame). Get the panang curry and ask for it extra spicy... Pretty much what you'd expect for Thai in an 'adult community' in the middle of Florida. We came on Christmas Eve and the restaurant was completely packed, but we only had to wait 15-20 minutes to be seated. Service was nice and speedy enough, but the food is pretty mediocre. I had the garlic pepper squid, which was a little chewy and served on a rather unappetizing assortment of pale leaves. My parents had two different curries that were acceptable in taste, while my fiance's fried rice was oily and tasteless. I doubt anyone is going to be in the area looking for authentic Thai, so I suppose it's good enough for what it is. read more

Update: After years of being away, my husband & I were eager to go to Thai Ruby on our anniversary now that we were in the area again. What we found was that the restaurant had changed quite a bit, and not because of COVID-19. To summarize our experience: Pros: Friendly staff, somewhat attractive decor, very good spring rolls. Cons: Difficult to communicate with staff due to language barriers, we received and were charged for bottled water instead of the glasses of water we requested, the soup, if you could call it that, was just a tablespoon of ramen in a watery broth, our pad Thai dishes were both extremely sweet, the beef variety had very tough beef and the pork variety, unfortunately, contained rancid pork. We quickly stopped eating and certainly didn't take home the leftovers. Altogether, it was a very unpleasant experience and we won't bother going to Thai Ruby again. What a disappointment! read more

We LOVE Thai food and this was easily the absolute worst Thai food we have ever had. The "crab Rangoon" we received had no crab in it and was cream cheese with what seems to be curry- disgusting!! Meals were good, curry sauce was a little too thick. Our waiter was so abrasive. The way she yelled "next" to take our orders at the table sounded like I was in a diner, not a well established establishment. This review is probably not fair, as I just returned from a Thailand vacation. I ordered carry out and got the Thai spring rolls and the red curry chicken (medium). The Thai spring rolls were not like authentic Thai rolls I had in Thailand, although other reviewers commented on how much the food was like the land of 1,000 smiles. Additionally, I had the red curry chicken medium. Perhaps I need to start ordering Thai hot, as it wasn't spicy enough. The portion size of the chicken wasn't as large as I was use to from other restaurants (I was hoping to make 2 meals out of it, it was more like 1.5). They also didn't provide me to go cutlery. It isn't the worst meal I've had in the villages, but the previous reviews really made me think it was truly authentic - not an Americanized version which is more so what I got. read more

Doesn't taste too authentic. We tried after the Christmas holidays. Service was good. Restaurant was empty when we entered, but was nearly full when we left. I don't believe there's too many choices for Thai in The Villages. I ordered my standard dish when trying a new Thai place -- red chicken curry. Lacking in any flavor and spice. It was very runny and watery. Wouldn't order again and not sure I'd return to this restaurant. There were 4 in our party. Nice atmosphere inside though. My husband had his standard Pad Thai. The first thing you will notice is the beautiful interior with cozy seating arraignments. The menu is more tame than the typical Asian menu and is grouped by meats or seafoods. The service is fast and attentive. We ordered "Crab Rangoons" for our appetizers and was the best we've had and a delicious dipping sauce. My meal was a chicken curry coconut milk dish that was fantastic. My wife had a good Pad-Thai as well. I don't know why this place isn't packed all the time...maybe Thai food hasn't caught on in The Villages yet! read more

For Thai food, it's incredibly bland. Most of the dishes all taste the same. The vegetables used were obviously frozen and not fresh, and no wok - everything is soggy and drowning on a bland sauces regardless of what you order. I have eaten at many Thai restaurants, however, this place has got to be the WORSE! If I could give ZERO stars I would! We ordered the chicken lettuce wrap, large Tom Kai soup and stir fried rice with shrimp. The chicken lettuce wrap was mainly thinly sliced red onion with crumbled chicken, I asked for peanut sauce and was told it would be $4 extra, the lettuce was 1/4 head of iceberg lettuce, great if I wanted a salad but bibb or romane lettuce is pliable is usually used so you can fold it to hold the chicken, the Tom Kai soup was luke warm, in a bowl, not a hot pot and we were given a TEASPOON to scoop out the soup, not a ladle, I had to pour it into our bowls, the fried rice with shrimp was more like white steamed rice, the shrimp was almost raw, gray and just a tinge of pink, with the tails on and huge broccoli and carrots barely cooked as well, I doubt it even went into a wok to stir fry! The best thing I had was the unsweetened iced tea! To their credit they did take the cost of the chicken wrap off the bill. I guess because they have a captive audience in the Villages they can serve this subpar food and obviously those people that gave this place 4 stars have never eaten good Thai food! I could maybe expect 1 dish out for 3 to be so-so, but all 3 dishes?? No way...spend your money elsewhere! read more

I was visiting my parents in The Villages and we decided to drop in Thai Ruby for lunch one day. I don't think it is reasonable to expect to have the best and most authentic ethnic food experience in The Villages, but still I left somewhat unimpressed. The restaurant is located right near Lake Sumter on Canal Street. The atmosphere is very Chinese. Now it's probably fair to say that I don't know what an authentic Thai atmosphere would look like, however I doubt it would include wood paneled walls, gold Chinese letters on the wall, and Chinese music playing prominently in the background. And there are some really bizarre pillows on the booths at every table. The booths are small enough already - why are there pillows too? My guess is that the owners saw them once in a Chinese restaurant. We were served a complimentary chicken soup prior to the meal, which had little shredded bits of chicken at the bottom. I like soups quite a bit, and complimentary soups even more, but this version was without much flavor or character. Crumbled bits of chicken at the bottom in a watery broth. Not impressed. We ordered a crispy egg roll appetizer ($7) with a dipping sauce. The rolls were deep-fried, and the sauce was a little spicy, but overly sweet. Not very good and rather expensive. My choice was the chicken and rice with green curry. It was actually quite flavorful with a spicy coconut curry, bits of snap peas and peppers, and chunks of chicken. I enjoyed the dish. It was spiced perfectly and balanced well, however to nitpick, the amount of curry was too small for the rest of the dish and the portion size was on the meager side. It was pretty good, but not perfect. My sister ordered the chicken pad thai - which she seemed to enjoy. When I tasted it however, I noted the dish was totally lacking in acid. Good pad thai has a little bit of lime juice for some sharpness. This dish was fairly bland with a sickly sweet peanut sauce and very little heat. Maybe the locals like bland pad thai, I don't know, but I thought it was a poor version of the dish. You can get better pad thai at any Pei Wei location. I was beginning to be thoroughly disappointed with Thai Ruby, but at the end of the meal, they brought out some complimentary fried dough with icing. I would like to think that I can't be bribed, but lets face it...give 'em an extra star! However when the bill came and you face up the total worth of the meal - 30 bucks for one good dish and two bad ones (plus some fried dough!) - I don't think I'd come back. Surely there is better Thai food in this town somewhere? read more

This my wife and I's favorite Thai food restaurant. We have tried a lot of different Thai food places in every city we go to and haven't found any where that compares yet. My wife and I almost always get the same dishes, Chicken Pad Thai and Panang Chicken, and it never gets old. We always ask for an extra plate and then push the dishes to the middle and share. We have had Pad Thai at places that could compare but not the Panang Chicken. The ambiance of the place is wonderful and seems very authentic It is a great place to bring a date. The service is also great. The waitresses all wear authentic Thai attire. It is our favorite place to eat in The Villages, FL. If I could give it 4.5 stars I would though because it used to be a little better. They used to give you a free appetizer and dessert with your meal that was really nice. read more
