My partner and I stumbled upon this hidden gem while out and I am so glad we did!! The owners perfected every detail from the beautiful decor, serving dishes all the way to the plating of food. The location sits in a small strip mall. From the outside you would never know how well put together and clean the establishment is. The staff were incredibly friendly. The meals came out freshly made and hot and the flavor was some of the best Thai I've had (and I eat Thai quite often). This is my new go to spot when I'm in the area! Give it a try!!

If I gave Bangkok 54 five stars ( https://www.yelp.com/biz/bangkok-54-chapel-hill ) then I have to give Thai Palace five stars. These are both solid Thai restaurants on highway 54 in Chapel Hill. I could easily give these places "just" four stars, but I think they are great for the area so I'm giving them generous fives. My wife and I have been to Bangkok 54 numerous times because of its proximity to our apartment. We've been very happy with it. That said, I think these two restaurants are equal in terms of food and service. If we lived closer to Thai Palace, we'd come here more often. The two restaurants are only 2.6 miles from one another. For those familiar with Bangkok 54, here's a list of advantages that Thai Palace has: 1. Thai Palace is bigger. There's more seating. They even have a private room. 2. Thai Palace is nicer. It has a more elevated ambiance. Their tableware and dish presentation is more beautiful too. 3. Thai Palace offers dishes that Bangkok 54 does not. Examples include Soft Shell Crab ($20.95), Crying Tiger ($19.95), and soups served in hot pots (e.g., Tom Kha Talay and Poe Tak, $16.95 each). 4. Thai Palace has online ordering. Bangkok 54 does not. Thai Palace is located in the Glenwood Square shopping center ( https://www.yelp.com/biz/glenwood-square-shopping-center-chapel-hill ), same as the Fresh Market, on 54 (Raleigh Rd) near 15-501 (Fordham Blvd). It's just east of UNC's campus. We visited on a Tuesday for dinner and the place was moderately busy with a combination of both dine-in and takeout customers. There were two lady servers busy taking care of the entire dining room and to-go orders. The restaurant can be deceivingly large because the dining room is partitioned into a few different spaces. They have outdoor patio (umbrella-covered) seating too. Here's what the two of us got: Appetizers A1. Sate Chicken (5 skewers for $7.95) - grilled chicken marinated with Thai herbs and coconut milk; served with peanut sauce and cucumber salad Soups S3. Tom Yum Soup ($10.95) - hot and sour soup with chicken (or tofu), mushrooms, lemongrass, kaffir leaves, lime juice, and hot pepper House Specialties H3. Bangkok Duck ($20.95) - crispy deboned duck topped with panang curry paste and coconut milk with broccoli; comes with bowl of rice Entrees E8. Pad Eggplant ($13.95) - with pork (+$1) stir-fried with chili, garlic, bell peppers, Thai basil and eggplant; comes with bowl of rice Beverages * Thai Iced Tea (Cha-Yen) ($3.95) * Singha ($5) - "the original Thai beer" Everything was delicious, especially the Bangkok Duck -- that was a recommendation from our server. It was outstanding. The duck had excellent texture and the panang curry sauce was spot-on; rich, sweet, and nutty. We love vegetables and liked how the dish came with plenty of broccoli. The plating was eye-catching as well. The Pad Eggplant was colorful and filling. For entrees like this, you can choose from 10 different/combinations of "proteins." I put proteins in quotes because one of the options is mixed veggies. The pork that came with our Pad Eggplant and the chicken that came with our Sate were good quality. In general, the vegetables in all of the dishes were fresh. I enjoyed the Pad Eggplant which came with big, appetizing chunks of purple eggplant. My wife thinks it was either Chinese or Japanese eggplant. This is another example of a dish that Thai Palace offers that Bangkok 54 does not. (We've gone to Bangkok 54 so much that it's hard for me not to make comparisons.) Along with Sate Chicken, Sate Pork is an option. The chicken skewers were tender and tasty. The condiments were great. I especially liked the cucumber salad which had carrot, red onion, and I think sugar and vinegar. Both the cucumber salad and peanut sauce - which was sweet and savory - were perfect with the lightly-marinated chicken. The Tom Yum Soup was terrific. It was light, refreshing, and the broth was addictive. I couldn't stop drinking it. It was robust and full of flavor; savory, tangy, mildly spicy, and comforting. One bird's eye chili was served in the soup in case we wanted more heat. I recommend everything we ordered, with my personal favorite and top recommendation being the Bangkok Duck. Again, everything was plated beautifully. The Thai Iced Tea was yummy and par for the course (most are yummy). The Singha hit the spot. That's the only Thai beer they offered here. They also had Asahi Japanese beer and a couple local beer selections plus sake and wine. Service was fantastic. I liked how they spread out dine-in parties evenly. The servers were polite, appeared experienced, and worked efficiently. The Wi-Fi password was Padthai123. I have T-Mobile and the signal inside was poor so the Wi-Fi definitely came in handy. We look forward to returning and trying some different dishes including their noodle dishes.

Delicious food with the most beautiful interior! Service was quick and friendly for the weekday dinner we had. I got the tofu and vegetables drunken noodles and my sister got the chicken green curry- they were both delicious! Highly recommend this restaurant

Came in on a weekday night and were promptly seated. Service and food were both fast and excellent!!! Inside is clean and spacious with plentiful seating. Would absolutely return or order takeout for yummy Thai food!

Long-time Chapel Hill favorite continues delivering great food after 30 years in business! The portions are large and reasonably priced--look at my bowl of glass noodle soup: it's practically a tureen. Hot, fresh portions that will fill you up without emptying your wallet. Quiet if you dine in, usually, and bustling takeout trade if you'd prrllrefer to eat at home. Will return.

I ordered the Thai Palace Duck (medium spicy level) over the phone for takeout. I was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. Their communication regarding takeout was slightly disorganized. Upon arriving 2" minutes later, I inquired about my takeout. However, they said it would take about another 20 minutes. After waiting another 5-10 minutes and seeing the people at the front switch, I inquired for an update on my order. However, it turned out that my order was already done and waiting up front amongst other takeout orders! It comes with a side of rice. The overall taste was good and the spicy was pleasant. The portion size was okay, but I was expecting more for the price. There were some small bones in duck, but nothing major. There were very few pieces of mushroom. It was in a shopping center that had plenty of parking. There was comfy seating at the front waiting area too. Overall this was an okay experience. If I'm in the area and want some Thai food, then I would come back (there weren't a lot of close Thai options). However, it's not somewhere I will go out of my way for.

I think this place is going to be one of my new go to spots! Very well flavored Thai dishes. This place seems very authentic. Loved the duck red curry and pad kee meow. I'm definitely going to try to ask for extra spicy next time :).

Really good Thai food! I tried the pad kee maow or drunken noodles (medium spice), and they were really tasty! I think medium was the perfect spice level. It had a decent amount of chicken and veggies, but however, the serving size was smaller than what I usually get at Thai restaurants. It was also VERY oily from all the chili oil, and it formed large puddles at the bottom of my takeout container, which was a little off putting. But nonetheless, still a very yummy dinner!

Solid Thai spot in Chapel Hill! Came here with a large party and everyone was super accommodating. I got the pad see ew and the chicken satay. Both had pretty good flavor-- I especially liked the fried tofu.

Food wad great and authentic. Many dishes are different from typical American-Thai food. The appetizers and desserts are all house made. We were challenged to have a jungle curry. Super spicy but it's super tasty. Pat and Poom are our servers. They are very attentive.

LIKE WHAAAAAT! I should've realized it when I saw that part of the name of the restaurant was "Station"! Even then, the seats inside and not in the train were also nice too :) We came on a Friday evening and were surprised that it was not busy... for like 10 minutes lol. Parking can be a little tricky in this area, since there's Weaver Street Market within the plaza, along with a few other small mom 'n pop shops! We all ordered a dish and a soup. My partner and I got pad thai, pad see ew, and tom yum soup! The restaurant had a lot of really good options, but we usually like to order our go-to Thai options on our first time visit. I can't comment on the pad see ew, but I like how the server was kind and confirmed with us the amount of heat we wanted to eat. Lol, you know it's gonna be Asian spicy when they double check with you! Tom yum soup was not bad--tangy and a little pack of heat (sorry, I can't handle too much spice) and the pad thai was chewy and had a good amount of sauce and protein with each bite! I actually liked that it had an acidity compared to some other thai places I've tried where it's just too sweet. Portion size was just right! I'd definitely come back here again to try the other options :) We had so much fun chatting that I didn't get a chance to snap a photo of the interior, but trust me, it's really nice! I'd even recommend this as a casual date night place.

Our party of four was seated immediately at 6:30pm on a Friday evening. We ordered three dishes: - pad see ew with shrimp - red curry with shrimp - massaman curry with tofu The pad see ew was the standout: the large shrimp and the broccoli were cooked perfectly, and it had good flavor overall. The two curries were disappointing. The tofu in the massaman curry was cut very small and seemed over-fried, and the sauce lacked the creamy richness I associate with that dish -- the kind that comes from potatoes simmering in the curry for a long time (and the potatoes seemed barely cooked). The red curry had only two pieces of eggplant (!) and was overwhelmed by too many red and green bell peppers -- they dominated the flavor profile. Like the pad see ew, the red curry did include large, well-cooked shrimp, which was its saving grace. Both curry dishes also had far more bamboo shoots than seemed necessary (as another Yelper notes, about 5x what other places put in). Using so much of an an inexpensive filler vegetable looks like a way the restaurant is trying to save money -- just sayin'. I also tasted a companion's tom kha soup, which was essentially warm coconut milk with very little additional flavor. More bamboo shoots... One note about both serving sizes and presentation: the serving platters at Cham Thai are extremely wide and very shallow, which spreads the food out into a very thin layer over a large area and gives the impression of a larger portion of food than is actually there (noting this because many reviews say that the "portions are huge" -- not our experience). For diners needing gluten-free options, the messaging from the staff was very confusing. At first we were told confidently by our server that "any dish on the menu could be easily be made gluten-free" because the kitchen "has three sauces: regular, vegan, and gluten-free." When we ordered a dish gluten-free, however, the server paused, said he "needed to check something," left, and returned to say that dish could NOT be prepared gluten-free after all (?). A "Cashew Nut" entree ordered gluten-free arrived missing the cashews; after checking with the kitchen, the server explained they had been omitted because the fried cashews in the dish could not be guaranteed gluten-free due to cross-contamination. It would have been helpful to know that ahead of time, or given raw cashews when the dish was served to us. Our server apologized and eventually gave us a bowl of raw cashews on the side. It's also worthy of note that NONE of the eleven dishes they call "Recommendations" on the menu are vegetarian (see photo). All in all, our meal at Cham Thai didn't quite live up to the restaurant's Yelp reviews. There is better Thai food in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area.

If you're seeking more straightforward or "authentic" Asian cuisine, this is not the place. I read Elements served sushi at one point, but not anymore. The vibe of this place is contemporary American, on the finer dining side. If you're looking for a nice meal out in Chapel Hill, then Elements fits the bill. We liked this place better than Jujube, which also serves "elevated" Asian fusion, across the street. Owner and chef, Michael Chuong, previously worked at ãn in Cary. ãn opened in 2006 and closed in 2017. kō*än opened in ãn's place in 2019. My wife and I weren't in the Triangle when ãn was around, but we have been to kō*än and are fans. At first, I thought ãn and kō*än might be related, but I don't think they are. I'm not sure. Chuong left ãn years before it closed. Chuong opened Elements in 2012 in Chapel Hill's East 54 mixed-use development on 54. It's the same development that has Brenz Pizza Co. (another place we're a fan of), First Watch, and Hawthorne & Wood (outstanding restaurant). Parking can get a bit tight here, but we've ultimately never had a problem finding a spot. We visited on a Friday night and the restaurant was moderately busy. On this particular night, the clientele was mostly late middle age and older. Perhaps not too surprising for this part of town, and the menu appeared to appropriately reflect the tastes of the immediate area's demographic. I appreciated the simple menu, with six small plate options priced at $7-16 per plate and seven main plate options priced at $26-40 per plate. There were six items on the dessert menu ($10 each) and a decent selection of alcoholic beverages (full bar). I believe some menu items change frequently/daily. Here's what we got: Specialty Cocktails * Elementini ($13) - Absolut, PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur, lemon juice, club soda Small Plates * Hydro Bibb Wedge ($14) - Hydro Bibb, hard-boiled farm egg, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, buttermilk blue cheese dressing, sweet-n-salty lardons, crispy onions, and carrot ribbons * Kale Caesar ($13) - Tuscan kale, wasabi Caesar dressing, anchovy, panko soft-boiled egg, Parmigiano-Reggiano Main Plates * Fresh Catch - North Carolina Trout (market price - $36) - Viet style with stir-fried vegetables, crispy shallots, nuoc cham, peanuts, and rice * Bo Luc Lac ($40) - wok filet mignon, hydro Bibb, buttermilk blue cheese dressing, cherry tomatoes, pickled onions, house truffle fries Dessert * Elements Pie ($10) - dark Belgian chocolate mousse, Oreo crust, Chantilly cream, berry coulis Overall, the food and drink were delicious and presented beautifully. We liked everything. The Elementini was tasty, well balanced, and not too sweet. It was a good cocktail. My wife and I disagreed on the salads. My wife preferred the Kale Caesar while I preferred the Hydro Bibb Wedge. I do agree with my wife that the Kale Caesar was more creative. It had a hint of wasabi, which provided a nice little kick. The egg was cooked perfectly with a runny yolk. The Bibb was crisp and satisfying. I liked the small touches such as the crispy, rich lardons (bacon) and the way the egg was sliced. Both salads were hearty (not something I really say about salads) and filling, especially the Kale Caesar. The "Fresh Catch" NC Trout was indeed fresh with generous, meaty portions of fish. Again, I like the details like the thinly sliced purple carrots. Nuoc cham is the same thing as nuoc mam, a yummy Vietnamese fish sauce. The Bo Luc Lac filet mignon was another item that was cooked perfectly. The steak was super tender. However, it was also too salty. The house truffle fries were awesome. They were more like steak fries or potato wedges - thick. I will say though, as someone who has ordered a lot of shaking beef (Bo Luc Lac), $40 is pricey. Then again, it is quality filet mignon. The Elements Pie was terrific. It had lots of different textures. The dessert was creamy but not heavy, smooth, and had a delectable crust. I recommend everything listed above if they're still available when you visit. The food here is high quality. The restaurant space is deceivingly large because of multiple rooms, at least one of which was closed during our visit. There's a wraparound bar and a pleasant, mostly-covered, outdoor patio. Service was excellent. Joseph, an undergrad at UNC, was our server. He was great; very friendly and he worked hard. He was running around so much that he was visibly sweating. When my wife had to leave the table, a manager (I believe one of Michael's daughters) folded my wife's napkin. Book your reservation for free using OpenTable (app or website) to earn dining points which you can use for future discounts at other OpenTable restaurants or redeem rewards like Amazon gift cards. I did the latter with my last OpenTable points redemption.
