Not sure why they're getting so many negative reviews... I think Twisted Noodles is one of the better thai places in this area. It's my go-to spot for ordering takeout. Prices are slightly higher but portions are also a little bigger. I prefer this location to the Durham one. Employees I've interacted with have been very pleasant. read more

Absolutely the WORST Thai food I have ever been served, and I've eaten outstanding Thai food in Portland, OR, and decent Thai food in Atlanta. The wide rice noodles were almost raw, and could not be eaten by either myself or my companion. So for $18 I had a small, and I do mean small, serving of veggies that would have been inadequate even if the noodles were edible. We were there early in the evening, in fact we were the first dinner diners, so a busy kitchen was not the problem. The wait person made no effort to find out why one dinner was unedible, and was returned to the kitchen almost exactly as it had been served. Eat here at your own risk. Drunken noodles with beef was excellent! I ordered medium spicy level, expecting it'd be only mild, like with so many other Thai places, but boy, this place really does make it spicy!! This medium spicy level is definitely the max spiciness I can tolerate (I really don't think I can tolerate it if it was any spicier), but it was also not so unbearably spicy that I couldn't enjoy the dish. Had an amazing dinner courtesy of Twisted Noodles. A Chapel Hill landmark for years serving an incredible array of Pan-Thai Asian cuisine. Ordered: the Twisted Sampler appetizer. Oh my gosh... amazing shrimp in a delicious panko breading along with crab rangoon, dumplings and spring rolls. Their sauce is a thinned sweet and sour with a dash of spice. Incredible. Fried vegetable tempura, sweet potatoes, huge broccoli, squash and thankfully not spices of onions which I feel don't qualify. Main entree- of course the Drunken Noodles with huge slices of pork cooked to perfection. I opted for 'no spice' and the flavors were amazing. Mild is still too spicy for me, haha. Huge portions! This is a great local restaurant to satisfy your Thai food cravings! The location is unassuming, but the food is high in flavor and freshness. For those of you familiar with the area, Twisted Noodles is tucked away in the corner of the same shopping plaza as Trader Joe's, next to the Clean Juice and across from the Starbucks off East Franklin Street. I ordered the Pad See Ew, Green Curry, and Summer rolls, and Thai Fried Rice. The Pad See Ew consisted of chicken, eggs, flat rice noodles, and broccoli stir-fried in a sweet soy sauce. Pad See Ew is my favorite Thai noodle dish and this was an excellent rendition. The broccoli was fresh and cooked perfectly and there was a nice proportion of veggies & protein to noodles. The Green Curry was very good, but had a kick despite being ordered as "mild." Just a word of caution for those of you sensitive to spice! The Summer rolls were beautifully wrapped and full of fresh vegetables. Unfortunately, the Thai fried rice was underwhelming. It was too oily and the green peas were under-cooked. Overall, I was very satisfied and happy to try a local business that is serving high quality Asian food with quick service. Ordering online and curbside pick-up was a breeze. Both the Chapel Hill and the Durham sites are very good. The menus are similar. The main difference is that the Chapel Hill location is newer and looks "nicer" but the Durham one has it's own special ambiance of comfort. They both have killer stir fry dishes. They both have take out and do a very busy lunch hour. They both have relatively small square footage yet the menus have a good variety of food. The service is consistently very good. Was there Wednesday evening and ordered their version of General Tso. Chicken was overcooked, cold, and lacked and flavor whatsoever. Rice was cold and tasted bad. Sent food back. My guest's food was hit and from all their reactions very good. I will go back, but will avoid the General Tso and question if the kitchen staff can consistently produce decent food. Swung by for lunch on Sunday. As expected, the whole strip mall parking was pretty packed because it was a Sunday. Coming in, slightly over 50% of the tables were filled and we were able to be seated immediately. I ordered the pineapple fried rice and asked for medium spice. Ambiance 5/5: I really enjoyed the aesthetics of the decoration. It makes the whole place feel more classy. Service 4/5: waiter was friendly and the food came out at a decent time Food 4/5: What I really enjoyed about the pineapple fried rice was the amount of various ingredients (vegetables, pineapple and meat) in terms of the ratio to the rice. Other places often have a whole lot of rice and not much of everything else. The presentation of the fried rice was also classy. Flavor wise, it was slightly lacking in contrast to some other places- whether they needed slightly more spice or a curry powder or something, that would have elevated the dish. In terms of spiciness, the medium spiciness was more mild than medium. Cost 4.5: The cost was pretty decent- slightly higher than a typical Thai meal for lunch- but it was the weekend so it wasn't surprising. I was skeptical of it when I read through it's menu on the door and had a sense about it and kept avoiding it for 2 yrs . The Pad Thai was so heavily sauced and like a lot of people in reviews mention going back over 10 yrs--food is too greasy, among other complaints. It was just a boring, version of Pad Thai. And they charge extra in a hidden way online for Chicken in Pad Thai and only if you get Tofu Pad Thai or veggie PT do they not charge $1-3 extra. Sadly, this side of CHill has some Asian restaurants that cut corners with ingredients, recipes, portions and quality of ingredients. I do not care for a restaurant that throws in tired random other ethnic foods into their menu. There's a "Indian Pancake w/ Curry Sauce" what in the world?? Also, Crab Rangoon? Stopped by here for a Sunday dinner. The food was delicious- I got the coconut noodle soup and my partner got the pad kra pao. The service was wonderful. The restaurant was swamped with patrons, some dine in and many others getting take out. Although there were only two front of house staff, they still made the time and effort to be attentive, keep our glasses full, and bring some additional chili sauce I asked for.
