Parking was tough, but lots of seating available!

I had a nice lunch here the other day with a friend! They have lots of options and the prices are very affordable. I tried the ginger sauce special with chicken. The service was friendly and there was plenty of seating (although parking was a little tough). I like how we got to choose between soup and salad included with our lunch, and I opted for soup since it was so cold outside. The ambiance is nice and simple. Kind of insane that they don't have public restrooms though!

So, a friend recently introduced me to Bangkok 54 and I loved it so much that I had it twice in a matter of 7 days. The first time I dined in and had the Masaman Curry w/chicken and loved every bite. I think the cashews add a special something! The service is great, everyone was super attentive. There is plenty of seating and it's cozy. The second time I ordered delivery and had the Masaman Curry with Shrimp this time. Again, I loved every bite. I also tried the Sang Some Duck, and it was also delicious. I now dream of getting food from Bangkok 54.

My friend took me here saying it was his absolute favorite thai place. I can see why. The minute I walked in the place just smelled like fish sauce and I knew itd be legit. We got the pad thai, fried rice, and green curry. Everything was delicious! The spice is pretty high, we got a 2.5 which was good, but definitely spicier than expected. I found the pad thai to look a bit plain, but flavor was amazing and i loved the noodle texture. Although i prefer the bean sprouts as a topping, it was good mixed in. Not a fan of the chicken though. Dry, tough, and bland. Curry was sweeter than i liked but still delicious, and although i am not a fan of fried rice this was really good. MSG good lol.

Favorite Thai food spot in the Triangle!! They have the best drunken noodles. The shrimp is large and fresh. I also love their spice settings--a spice setting of level 2 with a side of extra chili powder is wonderful.

Had a delicious meal at Bangkok 54! The staff was very friendly when serving us. We wish we had gotten the dumplings steamed rather than fried, but they were still good. Worth stopping by if you're in the mood for some Thai!

I've always wanted to try lad na, but have been unfortunately thwarted in my attempts to get it at other places (ran out, restaurant closed, etc.) so I was pleasantly surprised and glad to see it on the menu here! The gravy is flavorful and hearty. The portion size is also decent for the price. The squid had a nice texture but I do wish it had more flavor. I think gai lan instead of broccoli may also make it better but I love both so not really a complaint from me! Our waitress was also very nice and helpful. She advised my friend about the spice level so that her dish wouldnt be too spicy for her and my friend thought it came out perfect!

Bangkok 54 is right down the street from me, so I've lost count of how many times I've come. It's a cute, little place with Thai decor that mirrors a Thai household. The employees are always welcoming and happy to have guests. You can tell that the food is authentically made. The sweetness and spiciness of the red curry is so strong yet delicate and always satisfies my cravings for Thai delicacies. Before coming, I've wondered a lot about this place passing by, so I'm sure a lot of people do the same. All I have to say is: stop wondering and Thai it out yourself!

Green Curry with Tofu (spicy level 2)

I was extremely satisfied with this dish when I came here on a Friday night. I did not have to experience a wait and the food was served at good timing. I came here many years ago and thought the food was good but not great. I also do takeout here from time to time to get the pad Thai with tofu which is also delicious. However, my friend and I decided to dine in and I decided to change my order up. I got the green curry with tofu and WOW I was amazed. I usually order beef at Thai places but the way they fry their tofu here is phenomenal. I also got it at a spicy level 2 and beware, it is VERY spicy. The broth is both light and creamy, and it was a perfect serving. It was so good I ordered it as takeout again 3 days later. Would HIGHLY recommend!

    Beef Noodle Soup

How did I sleep on this restaurant for 4 years?? The beef in the noodle soup was extremely tender and the broth was comforting on a cold winter day. The spring rolls were also tasty, warmed my soul, and the plum sauce was a nice change. My friend got the green curry with a spicy level 2 and it definitely hits you hard so be aware.

We live just around the corner from Bangkok 54 and feel lucky to have such a great Thai restaurant so close to us. I was skeptical at first, but the noodles we got from here were outstanding. Even my parents, who are both originally from Bangkok, thought the food was tasty. That says it all. The first Yelp review for this business was posted in 2010, but the print menu says, "Since 1992." It's located in Falconbridge Center, the strip mall at the corner of highway 54 and Farrington Road, just off I-40 exit 273. Bangkok 54 is sandwiched in between The Mardi Gras bowling and games entertainment center and a Jersey Mike's Subs. This is a casual restaurant with not much to speak of in terms of ambiance and decor. They have neat, blown-up photographs of Thai landmarks and, during my visit, they had Thai pop music playing in the background. It's not a big place. The dining room looks to seat about 35 customers comfortably (three booths, the rest tables) and there are a couple tables outside on the tiny, barely-covered patio. The restaurant reopened for dine-in months ago. I got takeout and called my order in. It was ready in about 20 minutes and I paid in person with my credit card. The menu on Bangkok 54's website appeared to be up-to-date with the in-restaurant menus I looked at while I was waiting. You can access their online menu here: http://thaibk54nc.com/menu/. The restaurant serves many dishes that are typical of a Thai restaurant in America, from massaman curry to catfish. They don't really serve anything too unique though their beef noodle soup (which my mom likes to make at home) and "rotee" (a.k.a. roti, Thai crepes with condensed milk and sugar) did catch my eye. In general, I think the selection is good; it's nice and varied. Prices are about average for a casual Thai restaurant with most entrees costing about $13 each and special entrees costing $15-17 each. $10-and-under lunch specials are available too. I ended up ordering four of the six noodle dishes offered (all the non-soup options) and papaya salad: * SS6. Papaya Salad ($8) - tomatoes, carrots, peanuts, lime juice, and green papaya * N1. Pad Thai with chicken ($11) - sauteed rice stick noodles, eggs, bean sprouts, scallions, and ground peanuts with Thai seasonings * N2. Pad Kee Mow with pork ($12) - pan-fried rice noodles with eggs, broccoli, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, and basil leaves in a brown sauce * N3. Pad See Ew with pork ($12) - fresh flat rice noodles, pan-fried with broccoli, eggs, and special Thai sweet soy sauce * N4. Lad Na with beef ($12) - stir-fried flat noodles, broccoli, bok choy, and Thai gravy sauce Everything was excellent. I think my favorite was the Pad See Ew with pork, but the Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mow were outstanding too. On all the noodle dishes, you can choose the protein or go all veggie. Prices vary depending on what you choose. The options are chicken, tofu, mixed vegetables, beef, pork, shrimp, squid, and scallops. What I liked about Bangkok 54's Papaya Salad was its freshness, variety of ingredients, and it was prepared with plenty of fish sauce which wasn't mentioned as an ingredient on the menu (probably to not scare people away from the dish). Fish sauce is a vital ingredient in Thai papaya salad. It's super salty, but delicious and a staple ingredient in Thai cuisine. It would've been nice if there were more tomatoes and carrots in the Papaya Salad we received, but I'm just being nit-picky. The quality of the ingredients was good. All of the noodles were flavorful and well-balanced. They tasted fresh and each was quite satisfying. The noodle textures were spot-on, from the Pad Thai to the Lad Na. They had terrific bite and chew to them. The Pad Kee Mow is the same thing as "drunken noodles" (pad kee mao). Overall, I just find stir-fried noodles (not just Thai noodles, but any country's noodles) to be appetizing and comforting. What I like in particular with the Pad See Ew is the sauce that is used, giving the dish a somewhat sweet flavor. The Lad Na (rat na) is served in a thick sauce. Normally rat na is served with Chinese broccoli (gai lan), but Bangkok 54 uses bok choy instead. I prefer gai lan. Of the noodles, the Lad Na was our least favorite. Individually, I'd rate it three to four stars and the others, four to five stars. Service was fantastic. We look forward to trying more dishes here in the future. For now, my five-star rating for Bangkok 54 is only based on the dishes above.

    Red curry shrimp - Spicy
    Jim P.

My wife's and my food was delicious and the service was excellent. We both had Thai Curries, Green and Red. The Red Curry Shrimp could not have been cooked more perfect, the shrimp had to be very fresh. My Green Curry Chicken was really good too, with Thai Basil, slivered Bamboo Shoots, and sliced red bell pepper. I highly recommend this place.

LIKE WHAAAAAT! I should've realized it when I saw that part of the name of the restaurant was "Station"! Even then, the seats inside and not in the train were also nice too :) We came on a Friday evening and were surprised that it was not busy... for like 10 minutes lol. Parking can be a little tricky in this area, since there's Weaver Street Market within the plaza, along with a few other small mom 'n pop shops! We all ordered a dish and a soup. My partner and I got pad thai, pad see ew, and tom yum soup! The restaurant had a lot of really good options, but we usually like to order our go-to Thai options on our first time visit. I can't comment on the pad see ew, but I like how the server was kind and confirmed with us the amount of heat we wanted to eat. Lol, you know it's gonna be Asian spicy when they double check with you! Tom yum soup was not bad--tangy and a little pack of heat (sorry, I can't handle too much spice) and the pad thai was chewy and had a good amount of sauce and protein with each bite! I actually liked that it had an acidity compared to some other thai places I've tried where it's just too sweet. Portion size was just right! I'd definitely come back here again to try the other options :) We had so much fun chatting that I didn't get a chance to snap a photo of the interior, but trust me, it's really nice! I'd even recommend this as a casual date night place.

Our party of four was seated immediately at 6:30pm on a Friday evening. We ordered three dishes: - pad see ew with shrimp - red curry with shrimp - massaman curry with tofu The pad see ew was the standout: the large shrimp and the broccoli were cooked perfectly, and it had good flavor overall. The two curries were disappointing. The tofu in the massaman curry was cut very small and seemed over-fried, and the sauce lacked the creamy richness I associate with that dish -- the kind that comes from potatoes simmering in the curry for a long time (and the potatoes seemed barely cooked). The red curry had only two pieces of eggplant (!) and was overwhelmed by too many red and green bell peppers -- they dominated the flavor profile. Like the pad see ew, the red curry did include large, well-cooked shrimp, which was its saving grace. Both curry dishes also had far more bamboo shoots than seemed necessary (as another Yelper notes, about 5x what other places put in). Using so much of an an inexpensive filler vegetable looks like a way the restaurant is trying to save money -- just sayin'. I also tasted a companion's tom kha soup, which was essentially warm coconut milk with very little additional flavor. More bamboo shoots... One note about both serving sizes and presentation: the serving platters at Cham Thai are extremely wide and very shallow, which spreads the food out into a very thin layer over a large area and gives the impression of a larger portion of food than is actually there (noting this because many reviews say that the "portions are huge" -- not our experience). For diners needing gluten-free options, the messaging from the staff was very confusing. At first we were told confidently by our server that "any dish on the menu could be easily be made gluten-free" because the kitchen "has three sauces: regular, vegan, and gluten-free." When we ordered a dish gluten-free, however, the server paused, said he "needed to check something," left, and returned to say that dish could NOT be prepared gluten-free after all (?). A "Cashew Nut" entree ordered gluten-free arrived missing the cashews; after checking with the kitchen, the server explained they had been omitted because the fried cashews in the dish could not be guaranteed gluten-free due to cross-contamination. It would have been helpful to know that ahead of time, or given raw cashews when the dish was served to us. Our server apologized and eventually gave us a bowl of raw cashews on the side. It's also worthy of note that NONE of the eleven dishes they call "Recommendations" on the menu are vegetarian (see photo). All in all, our meal at Cham Thai didn't quite live up to the restaurant's Yelp reviews. There is better Thai food in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area.

The vibe of this place is contemporary American, on the finer dining side. If you're looking for a nice meal out in Chapel Hill, then Elements fits the bill. We liked this place better than Jujube, which also serves "elevated" Asian fusion, across the street. Owner and chef, Michael Chuong, previously worked at ãn in Cary. ãn opened in 2006 and closed in 2017. kō*än opened in ãn's place in 2019. Chuong left ãn years before it closed. Chuong opened Elements in 2012 in Chapel Hill's East 54 mixed-use development on 54. It's the same development that has Brenz Pizza Co. (another place we're a fan of), First Watch, and Hawthorne & Wood (outstanding restaurant). Parking can get a bit tight here, but we've ultimately never had a problem finding a spot. We visited on a Friday night and the restaurant was moderately busy. On this particular night, the clientele was mostly late middle age and older. Perhaps not too surprising for this part of town, and the menu appeared to appropriately reflect the tastes of the immediate area's demographic. I appreciated the simple menu, with six small plate options priced at $7-16 per plate and seven main plate options priced at $26-40 per plate. There were six items on the dessert menu ($10 each) and a decent selection of alcoholic beverages (full bar). I believe some menu items change frequently/daily. Here's what we got: Specialty Cocktails * Elementini ($13) - Absolut, PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur, lemon juice, club soda Small Plates * Hydro Bibb Wedge ($14) - Hydro Bibb, hard-boiled farm egg, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, buttermilk blue cheese dressing, sweet-n-salty lardons, crispy onions, and carrot ribbons * Kale Caesar ($13) - Tuscan kale, wasabi Caesar dressing, anchovy, panko soft-boiled egg, Parmigiano-Reggiano Main Plates * Fresh Catch - North Carolina Trout (market price - $36) - Viet style with stir-fried vegetables, crispy shallots, nuoc cham, peanuts, and rice * Bo Luc Lac ($40) - wok filet mignon, hydro Bibb, buttermilk blue cheese dressing, cherry tomatoes, pickled onions, house truffle fries Dessert * Elements Pie ($10) - dark Belgian chocolate mousse, Oreo crust, Chantilly cream, berry coulis Overall, the food and drink were delicious and presented beautifully. We liked everything. The Elementini was tasty, well balanced, and not too sweet. It was a good cocktail. My wife and I disagreed on the salads. My wife preferred the Kale Caesar while I preferred the Hydro Bibb Wedge. I do agree with my wife that the Kale Caesar was more creative. It had a hint of wasabi, which provided a nice little kick. The egg was cooked perfectly with a runny yolk. The Bibb was crisp and satisfying. I liked the small touches such as the crispy, rich lardons (bacon) and the way the egg was sliced. Both salads were hearty (not something I really say about salads) and filling, especially the Kale Caesar. The "Fresh Catch" NC Trout was indeed fresh with generous, meaty portions of fish. Again, I like the details like the thinly sliced purple carrots. Nuoc cham is the same thing as nuoc mam, a yummy Vietnamese fish sauce. The Bo Luc Lac filet mignon was another item that was cooked perfectly. The steak was super tender. However, it was also too salty. The house truffle fries were awesome. They were more like steak fries or potato wedges - thick. I will say though, as someone who has ordered a lot of shaking beef (Bo Luc Lac), $40 is pricey. Then again, it is quality filet mignon. The Elements Pie was terrific. It had lots of different textures. The dessert was creamy but not heavy, smooth, and had a delectable crust. I recommend everything listed above if they're still available when you visit. The food here is high quality. The restaurant space is deceivingly large because of multiple rooms, at least one of which was closed during our visit. There's a wraparound bar and a pleasant, mostly-covered, outdoor patio. Service was excellent. Joseph, an undergrad at UNC, was our server. He was great; very friendly and he worked hard. He was running around so much that he was visibly sweating. When my wife had to leave the table, a manager (I believe one of Michael's daughters) folded my wife's napkin.
