L6. Spicy Mint Chicken with side salad

Good Thai place - Their lunch specials are filling, service is good Ithe Spicy Mint Chicken had a good flavor and a generous portion of rice. The hubby had L1, the BBQ Chicken lunch combo. He enjoyed it.

If you want good Thai food then try this place out! I just got back from a month long Thailand trip and been needing my Thai food fix. This place solved that problem.

3.5 overall. Good large portions . Not the best ambiance to be honest . It's been around for years and there were many loyal customers when we went. I got the shrimp pad Thai . It was tasty and a huge portion. The peanuts however were rancid in my dish . It threw off the taste a bit . My Thai tea was not watered down which was awesome! Service was ok. Not super friendly but there was a language barrier . Our dishes were out quick! Def a local fave ! My friend loves this place and she introduced me to it. So happy she did.

I've been eating here with my family for years! We used to go to the Panorama City one for a long time and then started going to this location since it's closer and more convenient. Parking lot is awful and really small so just be aware of that. There is street parking on the side but tends to also be really full because of the apartments around. There's no beating the chicken plate. It's perfectly cooked and the rice is super good with the sweet n sour sauce it comes with. Always ask for extra sauce! They come in the tiniest containers so you'll need like 2-3 per plate in my opinion because it's so good with every bite. I feel like this time around, they didn't put as much rice? Or maybe it was always like that, I forget. They should honestly put more rice with how good it is just on its own! Great spot and worth checking out. IG: @ammysalamii

Gulf of Siam

Had the pleasure of trying the Pad Thai and Gulf of Siam dishes as take out at the Thai Original BBQ. The Pad Thai was exceptional, with perfectly cooked noodles and a well-balanced mix of flavors. The dish was generously portioned and included a good amount of shrimp and chicken cooked to perfection. The sauce had the right amount of sweetness and tanginess, making each bite a burst of flavor. I really enjoyed the Gulf of Siam, featured a combination of seafood, including shrimp, scallops, and squid, all cooked in a rich and flavorful sauce. The seafood was fresh and tender, and the sauce had a perfect blend of spices that added a nice kick without being overwhelming. Overall, Thai Original BBQ restaurant in Northridge is a great place to enjoy authentic Thai cuisine. The Pad Thai and Gulf of Siam dishes are highly recommended for anyone looking to indulge in delicious and well-prepared Thai food. I've tried pretty much everything from their menu and it's all delicious. In fact, I'm so hooked that I order takeout from there at least once a month.

Drunken Fried Rice

Nice service. Food was ok. Ordered the S2, drunken fried rice with beef, and crispy duck. The cook obviously has good technique however the food was lacking flavor on the shrimp rice & protein. The duck and pork ribs were a bit dry like they were cooked the day before then re-heated. Not bad but just not 100% fresh. I think this place has a lot of potential to be great but just needs some more support. The drunken fried rice however was fresh and flavorful (we requested mild spicy). We also ordered Thai tea, good but I've had better/stronger flavor. Im not sure I would come back but I would maybe give it another try if they improved.

We've been coming here for many years. Everyone that we've brought also loved their food. Our favorite is the Drunken Fried Rice and the Pork Radna. They are delicious! They also have lunch special Mon-Fri (non holiday). I highly recommend that you give them a try.

Chicken Ruby: Fried stuffed whole chicken; thickened, sweet, mild chile sauce; Shrimp fried rice, veggies

Thai Original BBQ & Restaurant is part of a chain in a Northridge stripmall. Two rooms, the side room is big enough to hold a banquet. The crystal clear acquarium is its only notable center piece.  Nice, quiet, efficient service. The waiter was kind enough to point out that I could get a better deal in getting the dinner special  than ordering the same item à la carte. The menu here serves the standard Thai dishes that appeal to a mostly non-Thai clientele.  1) Friend let me try a fried crispy almost crunchy Spring roll. Skin is a little dry, but the filling of chopped up bits of shrimp, pork, chicken, glass noodles, carrot, cabbage flavoured with Nampla/fish sauce, black pepper was a pleasing filling.  Accompanied by a sweet-sour sauce. 2) Chicken Ruby is a chicken the size of a large Cornish Game Hen. Battered and fried to a pleasant crispiness. Bit of old oil scent. Perhaps fresher cooking oil would have avoided that. Meat in places was a bit dry so brining the chicken would have made the meat texture more moist and pleasantly meaty.  Inside of the chicken, which is conveniently split in two, is stuffed with the same filling as what is in the deboned fried "Angel Wings". Pâté of chicken meat, glass noodles, carrots, onion flavoured with Nampla/fish sauce, black pepper. (A little garlic would have added more earthy, funky aromatics.)  A small cup of thickened, sweet, mild chile sauce paired well. But also added some pickled green chile pepper & pickle juice to add a acidic gastrique to pep up the dry chicken meat.  Shrimp fried rice with two lush shrimp seemed as though ketchup was added and the rice was tossed around in the wok.  Cooking here seems indifferent since it doesn't have to cater to a more discerning Thai clientele. No complaint about the prices which are reasonable, and good deal for the amount of food that you get.  Took half the chicken home to make Asian chicken salad.  3+ stars.

I love this place usually but wtf is up with this portion size. It's like A SIDE OF BEEF. Not a full on meal. Shocking. Definitely sticking to the bbq chicken for good now and the fried rice since I dont trust the portion sizes moving forward.

I am going to give 5 stars but I would really like to give 4.5 stars…read more I had the chicken and this is definitely 5 stars. The white meat was actually better than the dark meat Great spices and so juicy it's perfectly cooked (sorry BBQ) I would have preferred a little spicy option but that's me. Bbq sauce was great 4.5 again spice it up but the flavor was great. Now the sides Potatoe salad it's good not great. It's more like mashed potatoes consistency. Needs more pickle for sure. Mac and cheese again good but way over cooked it's mushy and not too flavorful. Needs more cheese and less time on the noodles by like 5 minutes. The only thing that pushed the rating to 5 was the chicken I would give it a six if I could. Price is right on point 25 out the door for a whole chicken and two good size sides. So yeah get your grub on for cheap bbq

There's a small table under the little tent they have but not really a place to enjoy a nice lunch so I'd advise only getting it to go. No line so I jumped right in and got one of their Combos which could feed at least three. The review: Baby Back Ribs (1/2 rack) dry rub, tasty, although they don't "fall off the bone" and could be meatier. Good char from the smoke, and they shined when I added their BBQ sauce. 8/10 Tri-Tip sliced - Large portion but a bit dry and thin. (Some Yelpers report that you can order this NOT PRE-SLICED which I bet would make it juicier). Maybe you'd have to buy a whole tri-tip? 7/10 1/2 Chicken - My favorite -- juicy and nice, smoky goodness. 10/10 So for $55.00 ($45 if you leave out the tri-tip), this is a bargain for so much food. No tax, service charges, etc. Oh, you get two sides with this and I LOVED the BBQ Beans and the Coleslaw -- both 10/10 and a full pint -- not just a small serving. Thanks Ed -- I'll be back!

I had the Coconut Shrimp, and my partner had the Pork Belly. Both dishes were the highlight of what had been an exhausting day. Along with our entrées, we enjoyed a side salad and some fried rice. The Coconut Shrimp wasn't drowning in the sugary white sauce you often find at Asian restaurants. Instead, it was coated with coconut shavings and fried to perfection. The Pork Belly was crispy and delicious, right down to the last bite. The rice had hints of corn and pomegranate that added a little extra sweetness and a texture I wasn't familiar with but really enjoyed. The salad wasn't floating in a sea of dressing, either, as is so often the case at restaurants that seem to think excessive dressing is standard and necessary. The food was fresh, and Paul served as chef, server, busboy, and dishwasher. He ran the entire show from beginning to end and was always attentive to our needs. Afterward, we spoke with Paul about some of the other foods he had available to take home. We purchased a slice of red velvet cake, a slice of chocolate mousse cake, and some cookies. Overall, the entire experience was filled with positive energy and Coco D's is a place we will most certainly be returning to. Thank You!

We got the four piece, beef ribs with the peanut slaw and mashed sweet potato, and we added a salad. Good thing they had rolls for us to nibble on while we waited for our food,... I chowed one down in three seconds flat. And honestly, our food came so quick, I didn't need to worry. We were right around the bar area, so I don't know if the rest of the restaurant was as loud as it was near us. Even so, I had no problem hearing my husband from across the table. So all in all, it was a great dinner! We wondered if they would charge us a split plate fee, but they did not. We were very happy about that. And even splitting the plate, we could not finish everything... We'll have to go back again to try out their desserts!

The jambalaya and gumbo were the best items I ordered today (11/11). I will definitely order these again. They were the best I ever tasted. Perfectly seasoned with high-quality meats, and very good. It's the best I've ever tasted. I've only had commercialized gumbo and jambalaya at chain restaurants. I didn't order any grilled meats. I anticipate the grilled meats being tasty because I tasted some of the meat in my gumbo and jambalaya at it was good and cooked to perfection. The sides were disappointing and I will not order again: Mac and Cheese: A little dry. Too much salt, too much unmelted cheese. Lacked a creamy inside. The bottom and top were just globs of unmelted cheese. Will not order again. Collard Greens: Tasted bland as if from a can. Mixed with spinach and mainly tasted like spinach. Will not order again. I added the greens to my gumbo so I didn't waste them. Let's be clear, the greens weren't horrible. I grew up picking and eating freshly picked collards so I have high standards for greens. Red Beans & Rice: Beans were cold and tasted like they were from a can. Not the Louisiana red beans and rice I was expecting at all. Rice was undercooked with a slight crunch. I added the rice to my gumbo when I reheated it on the stove. I will figure out what to do with the beans. Customer service was good. The lady was very attentive and went above and beyond to ensure every customer was taken care of. She even gave out peanut butter cookies while we waited. Bring your patience as this is a small-scale (lean) food-service establishment. I spent $30 for 2 half orders of gumbo and jambalaya ($10 each), and 3 sides. I probably could have saved a few dollars if I ordered a veggie plate. It was a little pricey for the portion sizes. I charge it to the gumbo and jambalaya which was $10 each and served in 8oz containers. I usually pay $8 for 12oz or 16oz of soup. On a positive note, I got to sample the menu. I know what I like and don't like. I don't expect to like every menu item at any restaurant. Bottomline, I will go again.
