For me, the menu highlights are the grilled meats, jambalaya, gumbo. I saw how the Pit-master grilled the meats. He was very clear about no shortcuts or rushing the process. The jambalaya and gumbo were the best items I ordered today (11/11). I will definitely order these again. They were the best I ever tasted. Perfectly seasoned with high-quality meats, and very good. It's the best I've ever tasted. I've only had commercialized gumbo and jambalaya at chain restaurants. I didn't order any grilled meats. I anticipate the grilled meats being tasty because I tasted some of the meat in my gumbo and jambalaya at it was good and cooked to perfection. The sides were disappointing and I will not order again: Mac and Cheese: A little dry. Too much salt, too much unmelted cheese. Lacked a creamy inside. The bottom and top were just globs of unmelted cheese. Will not order again. Collard Greens: Tasted bland as if from a can. Mixed with spinach and mainly tasted like spinach. Will not order again. I added the greens to my gumbo so I didn't waste them. Let's be clear, the greens weren't horrible. I grew up picking and eating freshly picked collards so I have high standards for greens. Red Beans & Rice: Beans were cold and tasted like they were from a can. Not the Louisiana red beans and rice I was expecting at all. Rice was undercooked with a slight crunch. I added the rice to my gumbo when I reheated it on the stove. I will figure out what to do with the beans. Customer service was good. The lady was very attentive and went above and beyond to ensure every customer was taken care of. She even gave out peanut butter cookies while we waited. Bring your patience as this is a small-scale (lean) food-service establishment. I spent $30 for 2 half orders of gumbo and jambalaya ($10 each), and 3 sides. I probably could have saved a few dollars if I ordered a veggie plate. It was a little pricey for the portion sizes. I charge it to the gumbo and jambalaya which was $10 each and served in 8oz containers. I usually pay $8 for 12oz or 16oz of soup. On a positive note, I got to sample the menu. I know what I like and don't like. I don't expect to like every menu item at any restaurant. Bottomline, I will go again. read more

Barbecue Craving We usually don't get out this way but as we came to Laurel Canyon and Magnolia (Right across from Popeyes) I saw a little pop up stand I haven't been to in a while. Right then and there I knew I had to stop by. I got the two meat platter with a hot link, beef rib, baked beans, Mac and cheese. I went with the spicy barbecue sauce. My food didn't stand a chance and dissolved into thin air, okay well it disappeared into my stomach. Lord have mercy! When they say Louisiana, it's the real deal. The hotlinks are perfectly cooked with a snap the second you sink your teeth into one. The flavor is downright perfect and it lingers in your mouth. The chicken juicy, tender left me yearning for more. The fall of the bone pork ribs juicy tender and full of flavor. I would put 0 stars if i could. Do not be fooled by the fact that they have a portable smoker and that it says authentic louisiana food. The food was disgusting ribs and chicken... dry a** chicken and nothing but fat on the ribs. They were greedy with the bbq sauce and my sides (baked beans and potato salad) were filled up half way. However for me to post about anyplace I must be completely honest because I realize there will be someone who might just want to try it.. My Dad made some of the very best gumbo I've ever tasted and my Mom was an hands down incredible cook. She just knew about flavor and was creative with it. Ribs where the meat was so good it fell off the bone and everything from greens to peach cobbler would leave everyone in the family arguing over the last piece and wanting more. Stopped here way too late in the day and they were closing. All they had left was some gumbo and corn bread. How could they possibly have had any gumbo or cornbread left? Every spoon full of gumbo was fully loaded with links and shrimp and it was great! (TBH I don't like shrimp normally BUT...). It was spicy and delicious. I was sad at the last bite. Was strolling by when I saw this stand that smelled really so I had to stop by. The lady taking the orders was really nice and sweet! The cook introduce himself and was really nice as well. Once I got the food and sat in my car and the first bit I fell in love. The ribs were smoked and cooked correctly the meat come right off with no meant on the bone was really juice and season correctly! With the BBQ sauce they had it made it better! The sides which was potato salad was just right outstanding!! And the yams were just sweet and amazing!! I had to get a hot link as well. The link was really good the way it was just amazing overall! Just moved to the neighborhood and fell on this stand by the aroma in the air! Delicious! Nothing like the smell of good barbecue. The taste clinched it for us...we will be back.
