House Philly - part of because the rest is in my stomach.
    Kevin P.

Ok it's been over a decade since I last was in Philly PA, but after one bite of Philly House's Philly and I was back there on the streets of Philly on my Philly Sammy tour. Made of Wagyu beef and HOUSE MADE WIZ their simple few items is what you'd expect from a place called Philly House. My wife enjoyed the cheese wiz fries and the sand which as well, $18 is a little high but for being the legit most authentic Philly in LA I've had, worth it. We've tried brick and mortar places and I don't know how many trucks, but this sidewalk stand is the best. I hope to stop by here again soon so I can tell them in person how much I love their sandwich. Till then I'll just reminisce of the first bite of Philly House's House Philly. Enjoy!

10/10 one on the best Phillies I've ever had the wagyu makes all the difference house philly with cheese wiz w/ Cajun fries you're welcome Service is 10/10 very polite, friendly and accommodating I stop by couple times a week at this point because it's just that good Highly recommend to stop by and give them a try

So good! We've been here a handful of times now, and they consistently put out really great food. It's one of those spots you can count on. The portions are generous -- especially with the house sauce (they do not skimp!), which adds so much flavor to everything. They're also very attentive with orders. We customize ours a bit and they've never messed it up, which we really appreciate. We usually order the House Philly with everything minus mushrooms, along with the house fries the same way. Every single time it comes out hot, fresh, and exactly how we asked for it. The steak is flavorful, the bread is soft but still holds everything together, and the fries are always cooked perfectly. It consistently exceeds our expectations, which is why we keep coming back. Definitely a spot we feel good recommending.

First of all. I've had this sandwich before but I inhaled it before I could write a review. Let me say this. This is absolutely the BEST cheesesteak sandwich I've had in quite some time! You can taste the quality of the beef in every bite. I ordered the House Philly with white american cheese and it was so cheesy and tasty! The special sauce and jalapeños on the side really took it over the top. The service is great and I will be back sooner than I should lol!

Cheesesteak and cheese fries. It looks delicious and already took a bite of the fries and great!!

Everything was great. Service, friendly, food tastes great definitely found my new spot

Was on my way home from work and saw this philly stand... decided to give it a try and let me just tell you WOW! This was the best philly ive tried in LA. They had seating for me to dine in as well. Thank you Philly House!

this is gonna be good. wait, I already ate it. it was very good

wahwah wiwah...this place was amazing! the steak was super flavorful, veggies had a great bite to them; I even took a chance on their cheese wiz bc I know that's the proper way to have it (plus I don't really like white cheddar or provolone lol), but I'm SO glad I did. layer on layer of flavor that works altogether. staff super friendly, kept offering me extras like their pickled jalapeños and fancy sauce (GIT ITTT). I'll def be back, if you're craving something melty-meaty-mayo-oniony-cheeseness this is the spot! look for the orange banners!

I ordered the big cheesesteak with extra meat and cheese, and it was loaded with grilled onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, and jalapeños. There are six different cheeses to choose from, so you can really customize it to your liking. The cheesesteak was juicy, tender, and flavorful, while the bread held up surprisingly well with all the fillings. The West Coast Tots were another highlight. They were super crispy and loaded with steak and cheese. The cheese sauce had a nice texture that brought everything together. Portions are generous, the food is satisfying, and if you're a cheesesteak fan, this is definitely worth checking out. Come hungry!

I'm pretty selective when it comes to cheesesteaks, but he assured me this was THE spot. I ordered a large West Coast Cheesesteak with provolone and their cheddar cheese sauce. First impressions were positive. The sandwich was filled with an ample amount of fillings. This place definitely does not skimp on the meat. I was informed by the worker that their "The Big One" has even more meat. I'll have to order that next time. After the first bite, I was pleased by the thin yet crispy, juicy, well-seasoned beef. The bread was the perfect complement, soft and soaking up the beef juices for a perfect bite. Despite soaking up the juices, the bread held its form well while also being chewy and airy. The provolone cheese was spread evenly throughout the sandwich, with the fresh mushrooms and jalapeños enhancing the flavors. The biggest surprise of my meal was the cheese sauce. I'm a big texture guy, so I was hesitant at first. A bad cheese sauce makes a sandwich soggy while overpowering the flavor of the meat. This was the opposite. The sauce was velvety smooth, and spread well after each pour. It was thick enough that it held its form and didn't saturate the bread. Very rich, creamy, and flavorful. Talked to the employee and he said they make their cheese sauce in-house. Very cool! This spot lived up to my coworker's hype, and he's easily earned my trust when it comes to food recs. I've had authentic cheesesteaks in Philadelphia, and this place is darn close to the stuff they have out there. I live far away, but I'm willing to drive up to this place next time I crave a cheesesteak roll.

I made it a combo and also ordered the hot lemon pepper wings. Wasn't mad about my food. It kept my tastebuds occupied for the England v France bronze game. The portions, for what I paid...I'll accept. The cheesesteak landscape in LA is still a small neighborhood. You got the mall chain, the imported-from-Philly chain (my fave), and the indie complex, where Jawny's and a handful of other developing entities reside. LA loves a good hot, chopped sandwich and businesses will continue to showcase their take on the east coast institution. Even fast service megas, like Jack in the Crack and Arby's, are making sure they can ride the cheesesteak wave. Did Jawny's keep up with my favorite? Not so much. Not with the classic. I'm not even sure what was so proprietary about the house made Wiz. And the overall value made the original steak feel like more of a hyped, boutique version of the cheesteak. It just wasn't substance-forward. But this restaurant will technically be more accessible than the carwash pop-up was, and that counts in my hemisphere. To be honest, I see myself ordering their wings more often, as a closer alternative to Wingstop. Ultimately, Jawny's is middle of the road for me. Seems it'll be passible food that I can stand to pay for some of the time. But congratulations on a place to call your own, y'all! That much, for sure, deserves a salute.

We came to Matū for the Dinner for Two, and everything we were served was impeccable. The seasoning was spot on, the salt level was perfect, and every cut of meat was cooked beautifully. I'm a big fan of my steak on the rarer side, and Matū absolutely delivered. The braised beef cheek was probably the highlight of the night for me. It was unbelievably tender, rich, and one of the most memorable bites of the meal. After finishing the Dinner for Two, which really showcased the quality of the meat, we decided to split a cheesesteak since "that's what they're known for." When it arrived, it looked incredible. Unfortunately, that's where the excitement ended for me. The meat tasted oddly oily. I'm not sure if it was the cut, the preparation, or even the cheese, but it came across as heavy and greasy compared to the beautifully simple, clean flavors of the steak dinner. It was also underseasoned, and I found myself tasting the sesame seeds on the bread more than the filling itself. The chips were fresh and crunchy at first, but they lost their texture surprisingly quickly, so eat those immediately. Overall, I absolutely loved the steaks, sides, and cocktails, and I'll happily be back for those. But as for the cheesesteak? Once was more than enough.

Matu is a dream for meat lovers, with a menu centred entirely around Australian wagyu. Nothing…read moreshowcases that commitment better than the Matu dinner ($87 per person; minimum 2 persons), a multi-course meal that highlights different cuts of the cow in every single dish. Things begin with a 24-hour bone broth shooter, looking like a glass of gravy but tasting like concentrated umami. Rich, warm, and deeply comforting, it's remarkable how delicious it is despite containing only broth. The steak tartare follows with freshly chopped beef, egg yolk, and what the menu describes as a "Japanese accent," possibly togarashi. Whatever the seasoning blend is, it works beautifully. The tartare is incredibly flavourful despite its minimalist presentation. Thin, lightly toasted crostini accompany it without overpowering the beef, though I did ask for extra slices just to finish every bite. The eight-hour braised beef cheek was one of my favourite courses. So tender and moist that you could practically eat it with a spoon, the richness is balanced by a silky celeriac purée that ties everything together beautifully. It's the kind of dish that immediately makes you want another serving. Even their '47' salad leans heavily into the restaurant's beef-first philosophy, featuring more steak than greens. The 3-ounce centre-cut filet was impressively tender for such a lean cut, and although it arrived rarer than I'd typically order, it worked perfectly. At Matu, diners aren't asked how they'd like their steak cooked. The kitchen prepares it to the chef's specifications, trusting the quality of the beef and their technique. As for the romaine leaves underneath, they're coated in a signature dressing that tastes remarkably similar to Caesar, despite being made without dairy or eggs, then finished with a generous showering of Parmigiano. After all that beef, you'd think sharing a 12-ounce ribeye would feel excessive. Somehow, it didn't. The steak is prepared simply, allowing the quality of the wagyu to speak for itself, with crispy grilled broccolini providing a garlicky contrast alongside it. A small dish of salt is presented at the beginning of the meal, though Matu intentionally keeps the seasoning restrained. Personally, I appreciated the lighter touch and never felt the need to add more. Dessert arrives in the form of Scott's flourless chocolate cake ($12), dense and rich without being overly sweet beyond a dusting of powdered sugar. After an entire menu devoted to beef, I almost found myself jokingly wondering whether wagyu somehow made its way into dessert too.
