Whenever we make a day trip to the states I find we are always either eating fast food in the food court or going for the McD nugget deals due to the limited amount of time in our trip. With the smaller selections of food court stalls at Bellis Fair nowadays I decided it's time to do a little more research on the eats available in Bellingham for some real food! And am I glad to discover Thai Maison. They opened about 2 years ago and not very obvious to the eye. But who knew they were located a few doors down from Trader Joes! Their menu consists of some off your traditional Thai dishes and some with an edge to the traditional dishes. Choo -Chee Curry w/ Crispy Chicken Thigh was one with a twist on your usual Thai curry where they have fried chicken in it! Very tasty curry and chicken, but only feedback is I wished the chicken had less batter and more meat to enjoy. The Pad Thai was generous with plenty of plump delicious seafood. It is on the sweeter side so I would ask to lessen the sweetness next time I visit it possible. This will be one restaurant I will visit again for it's convenience and selections. Sure beats food court and McD!! read more

Friendly and quick service. I ordered the KaNah MooKrob. The spice level 3 had a nice kick, got 2 pieces of broccoli stalk, (I added the tomatoes)but don't think it was broccoli, something leafy and the pork belly was absolutely decimated!! So overcooked, hard, and extremely chewy. Perhaps this wasn't the best dish on their menu. Not sure I will go back. At almost $20, another disappointing dining experience in Bellingham. read more

Tucked away in the Trader Joe's strip mall on James street you will find the coolest little thai place. The decor is definitely Asian modern with a dose of zen and the soft jazz playing in the background gives the restaurant an upbeat vibe. Right away the waitress makes us feel at home and we order our beverages, a beer for my husband and a diet soda for me. They offer beers, wines, thai beverages, sodas and juices. We ordered the Thai Maison wings as an appetizer and were not disappointed. They were crunchy, crispy and served with a delicious sauce. My entree was the "Choo-Chee"  Curry with crispy fried chicken thigh. All I can say is YUM. Probably the best curry I've ever tasted. I loved the velvety texture of the curry and the contrasting crunchiness of the chicken thigh. My husband's Pad Kraprao with Crispy Pork Belly was excellent, the pork belly really made this stir fry dish sing, it was simply luscious. The service was excellent, the food was exceptional and the restaurant was sparkling clean. The prices are a bit higher than the other thai restaurants in Bellingham but the food here is a step above all of them and the quality of the ingredients is worth the extra cost. Thai Maison is my favorite Thai restaurant in Bellingham. It is located in the same shopping area as Trader Joe's so parking can be tight. When we first walked in, the interior was clean, bright and cheerful. We were greeted right away and our server was kind and attentive. My favorite dish is the Choo Chee Curry with crispy chicken thigh. WOW is all I can say. The curry is creamy and rich, warm and spicy. I have also tried the Crying Tiger and the steak was tender and flavorful, pairing deliciously with the tamarind sauce, sticky rice and vegetables. I can't wait to try more items! I have had both the Thai Maison Fried Rice and the Pad See Lew Both were so delicious and flavorful. The one complaint is that the Pad See Lew is a bit dry, even when i asked for it to be saucy. They do have good service and the inside of the restaurant is so fancy and classy. Great for a date night, place to celebrate, or a girls night. I tried the calamari, and it was okay. Wow! What a pleasant, enjoyable dining experience from start to finish. Upon entering, you are presented with a nicely decorated interior. It is clean, cheerful, and relaxing. The staff was very friendly and upbeat. They eagerly answered any questions and provided helpful descriptions about the dishes offered. Service was efficient and considerate. The food was fresh and delicious. I tried the Choo Chee Curry, which I had never even heard of before. When I finished, I wanted another bowl of it! I have also experienced the Pad Thai. It had some unexpected ingredients that added to its very satisfying flavor. An hour after I returned home, my taste buds were still clapping their excited approval. There are several details that exhibit the thoughtfulness that went into this restaurant. One, is the unusual, but helpful, rating system for "spicy". Most restaurants use something similar to "one to five stars" to indicate how spicy you want your dish. Thai Maison's system is "zero to three" (no spicy, mild, medium, hot). A small detail, but eye-catching and very helpful for someone like my wife who does not enjoy spicy food. Somehow I have never managed to try this place that's next to Trader Joe's. It clearly does a big take out business, but the dine in experience was pleasant. The service is prompt, friendly and attentive. The decor feels like a cross between a bubble tea place and a diner somehow. Not very Thai-like, but happy and bright. Our dishes, the tom kha soup, a chicken larb salad and the "nude" seafood pad thai, were well balanced and fresh tasting. We asked for medium heat, and we're happy with the spiciness. I appreciated the no noodle (hence nude) pad thai dish while keeping my carbs down--it was very satisfying, and the scallops, shrimp, calamari and fish were not over cooked and had reasonable quantities. The tom kha certainly hit the spot as a starter on a snowy day! We will be back to try more of their dishes. So far our favorite Thai spot in this area. read more

We came into town to visit my daughter and her husband and they took us out dinner. None of us had been to this place before. So, we thought we give it a try. I am glad we did. This place is a bomb. The food taste is very authentic. We had pork belly, currybduck, had Thai, and papaya salad. The foods are so good we had to come back and order some to take home with us. This is next level Thai food for Bellingham! We ordered takeout, they were pretty busy, but very accurate about the timing. The pricing is a little expensive and I do wish there was more in the portions, but the flavors are absolutely there. We ordered Maison Wings (delicious sauce, chicken was perfectly fried), peanut noodle (the curry powder is an excellent addition), choo chee curry (crispy chicken is a must!), Tom kha soup (delicious flavors), and papaya salad (so delicious and refreshing). Such amazing food! I've never had "Choo Chee" before. We got it with tofu and it's officially my fave comfort food! (It's like a creamy, slightly sweet, extra coconutty curry.) And the Herbal Mushroom soup is a whole mood. Delicious! Lots of lemongrass flavor. Pad Kee Mow was also really wonderful. We also got the Larb Nua - and just note it's a different kind of Larb than usually served here in town (no fish sauce/lime juice dressing.) The meat quality is great, but it was WAY too spicy for me - I had to let my family have it all. (It comes a minimum of 2 stars). Speaking of which - their stars go 1-3, not 1-5, so order carefully! A 2 star here is like a 3+ elsewhere. (Pretty sure a 3 here would kill me). But all that said - truly wonderful food! Can't wait to try more things! read more

Nice warm welcoming vibe--you could never tell from the outside; and the service was sincere and thoughtful even though it happened to be a crazy busy evening after the 3-day holiday on a Tuesday night. Each dish was prepared with its own distinct taste and beautifully executed--even the vegetables were cooked in just the right amount of time with texture and tenderness. We've gotten some good dishes in the past, but our luck changed with the Herbal Mushroom Soup. The plentiful mushrooms tasted fine but the broth was bland and somewhat salty. Also, we ordered a #2 level hotness which we have had with other dishes in the past, but this time received a spice level that seemed like a #5. The red pepper flakes that sank to the bottom made the last of the soup too hot to even eat. We won't be ordering the Herbal Mushroom Soup again anytime soon. read more

I was eagerly anticipating the opening of this new Thai place near my house, and the wait has not been in vain! We ordered 4 items to share between 2 people (planning to have two meals), and all the dishes we got was simply delicious. One item that was brand new to us and unique to Thai Maison is their veggie cakes. They remind me of korean pajeons or Indian uttapams. Either way they are just delicious and the sauce that comes with it is indeed magic! Other classic dishes we tried were: papaya salad, tofu padseew, and their cho-chee red curry. All very flavorful and prepared beautifully. I do secretly wish everything was more spicy but still enjoyed all of very much. So glad to have our own go-to neighborhood Thai place! read more
