Absolute dissapointment. Came here because it is a chain restaurant, having a place in Chester that is beyond fantastic. Knowing that the Thai Kitchen has multiple locations throughout New Jersey, you would think that they are very similar and just as great. However, I was beyond dissapointed with not only the food, but the incredibly mind-bogglingly, horrible customer service. These people put shame to the word "server". We asked the waitors 3 different times about some food items, whether it concern the way in which certain food is prepared, or a type of sauce, or if the food is prepared fresh in the restaurant as opposed to ordering it from an outside source. These waitors had absolutely NO knowledge of any of these answers. They simply smiled and covered up the answer with additional information about the meal that we did not ask about, or in one case, stated "I don't know how the chef prepares the food." That's interesting, because if you are working in a high class food business, walking in and out of the kitchen and serving customers, you are REPRESENTING this restaurant and should know what exactly it is that we are about to eat.
When we first walked in the restaurant there was one other party sitting, and they proceeded to seat us all the way in the back by the bathroom and the overly large fish tank. Nice.
When the food was served (for both appetizers and dinner) the servers stood 2 feet away from our table, socializing and looking at us while we ate, as if there were thirty thousand people waiting to be seated and they just had to pick up our plates as soon as possible. That, or they just really like watching us and talking about us in another language. I was extremely uncomfortable by this and felt as though I couldn't eat in peace and have a conversation with my family because there were people standing right next to us, watching. Staring.
And how about the food? Well, the appetizers were good. Maybe the only good thing about the place. And, ah, for the dinner. I ordered the Tamarind Duck. It smelled like literal feces. A bathroom. A load of horse crap. You name it. It was horrible. And I couldn't get myself to even breath around it.
Here's why I'm being so hard on this place-- it's a chain, so I do expect all of them to be just as great. If you're looking for some great Thai food with excellent customer service in an incredible environment, go to the one in Chester. Everything in there is clean and polished and beautiful, not like this dirty, beat up place in Bridgewater. read more
