wow oh wow. after reading so many good reviews, i was still skeptical. really? a new place in spring branch that has this many good reviews already? either these reviews are rigged or no one here knows what good thai food tastes like. maybe that's it. since there's no other thai places around here, the bar must be pretty low! boy was i wrong. on a desperate craving for pad thai and tom kha ga soup, i called this place to place my to-go order. arriving about 15 minutes later (around 12:05pm), i can see the fuss. the restaurant is nice and clean looking. the staff that helped me were nice, my order was ready on time, so overall they've earned 3 stars in my book. i get back to the office, and open up my boxes and woah! is that really their lunch portion? it's huge! i couldn't finish half of it (i guess it's going to be dinner tonight also!) my shrimp and chicken pad thai was delicious (it may be even better than thai gourmet or dare i say it... nidda thai!) there was plenty of shrimp (more than thai cottage gives me) so i wasn't stuck eating eggs and noodles (ahem, thai cottage). and the shrimp were actually DEVEINED! that tells me they care and don't want me eating shrimp poops. ... at least that's what i'd like to believe. the flavoring was just right, just the perfect balance of deliciousness and just how i love my pad thai. my tom kha ga soup (thai spicy/sour chicken soup with coconut) was thicker than other places, but absolutely delicious. i could see the pieces of lemongrass they use, and it tastes fresh, not like it was sitting in the kitchen all day. overall, this is going to be my new spot from now on for lunch. ill update my review with a dine-in point of view soon, and hopefully their sushi won't disappoint either. read more

Used to love this place but I think they may be trying to penny pinch and you can certainly tell in the quality of the food. I've been known to come in a get 4orders of their cheese rolls cuz I loved them so. Now? Less cream cheese, barely warm and little to no crab in sight. Do yourself a favor and find another Thai restaurant. This place use to be okay but has taken a dive for the worse. Wait staff and management are horrible, I ask for an extra piece of chicken with my Japanese curry and sometimes they can do it and sometimes they can't depending on who you ask. Now all of a sudden they can't do it. How hard is it to make an extra piece of chicken? They never get the spice level right and mess up the order half the time. I have been going to Thai Jin for about 7months after I was introduced to it. I regularly go here since it's really close to home and it's a good place to have a bite to eat without having to drive so far. The menu selection is ok, given the fact that it combines Thai, Chinese and sushi. I normally get the pad thai or the drunken noodle. They give you a large portion and it's always filling. The sushi here is always fresh and it does take a while for your order to come out but it is worth it once you get your food. The california, spicy tuna, spicy salmon and rock and roll sushi rolls are my favorite. The staff is always friendly and is great at suggesting items from the menu. I would have given this place more stars but lately the service has been kind of off. Sometimes our order can be missing something and we have taken the habit of writing down which exact rolls and hand rolls that we order because when we get our check, we end up paying way more than we anticipated. After doing this, we are better able to keep track of which rolls we order. Honestly, I have been to other Thai fusion restaurants that offer a more extensive menu but Thai Jin is a good place in the Spring Branch area to grab a filling bite close to home. read more

Before Thai Jin, I'd have said hands down that Vieng Thai was the best Thai restaurant in town. Now I'd have to put them both at the top. Everything we had was so good.... yet somewhat different than the same dish at Vieng Thai. As our friendly waitress explained to us, Thai Jin's style of food is that which is found around Bangkok and Vieng Thai's was more southern Thai style. We had the Green Curry ("American" hot), Flat noodles ("Thai" hot) , Basil pork ("Thai" hot) and dumplings. All were incredible. I even had some decent quality sushi. We will be back soon. read more

We were regulars at Thai Jinn during lunch time due to the fact it had decent food even though they were understaffed. The service wasn't great and couple of times the order we had placed didn't arrive until it was time to leave, we still gave benefit of doubt to the staff who were overwhelmed during lunch hour. Even after subpar service we usually left 20% or more tip for our servers. We noticed when the owner was around he would ask his servers to get customers seated promptly. Last week however the owner wasn't around. The place was chaotic and line formed till the front door entrance. After waiting 15 mins there were couple of women behind us who decided to cut the line and find an empty spot. They were immediately brought the menu by the servers. Even though we were not happy about the behavior we were in no mood for confrontation so just waited for our turn. We finally got seated once we called the front desk and waived at them to help us find a seat. After waiting additional 15 mins we were brought the menu. We brought to the attention of our server that there was "a group who cut the line and they got served before us and we would like to talk to the manager ONCE we are done". The idea was to let him know that they have a sign in front door which says please wait to be seated. However, due to long wait time ppl were leaving or cutting the wait line. As a business owner, I personally wanted to tell him that his team was doing an ok job but he should get some help during weekday lunch time atleast. That was the only intention. Unfortunately, the white server replied by saying "so you want to talk to talk to the manager huh? alright then..." Even though we told him we want to order first but the person refused to listen any further and walked over to the next table to take the order. Couple of minutes later he returned and said "You guys won't get served so its best if you leave". Initially, we felt bad for ourselves because of this employee's rude behavior but then we realized how bad it was for the owner of a small business whose employee is running away customers just because he is afraid that he won't get tipped or simply because he is overwhelmed and can't handle stress. I have worked as a server before and would never blame the server for the wait time. Also, even if I did, I would never inform the server in advance that I am going to talk to your manager once I am done with my meal. Anyways, I am not going back there again. Everyone's experience might be different but thanks to yelp atleast we have a voice and opportunity to explain our side of the story. We were wrongfully kicked out of a restaurant by a server who refused us service once we requested him that we would like to speak to his manager once we are done. Not cool at all. read more

I am so happy to have a restaurant of this calibre near me. It is one of my favorite nearby haunts. For the longest time, this space was a string of failed Chinese buffets. But with the new owners and cook, they have found their footing and are making excellent food. I've enjoyed every meal I've had here. Strongly recommend the curries (the red and the green are two of my favorites) and the Pad Thai is HUGE! Usually end up taking some home to eat later. I really wish I would have read through more reviews. I went around lunch time so it was busy. Because it was busy my waiter (who was the manager) felt as tho it was okay not to greet me and rush me to order. I had the red curry and it was gross. Maybe a curry eater would appreciate the flavor but it just didn't do it for me. The salad dressing had too much of a peanut flavor in the vinaigrette and the egg roll was tiny! The yellow curry soup was a good starter but it was totally redundant to have red curry when the soup of the day was yellow curry. Weird menu. Hands down the best Thai I've had in a long time. A more well known and often lauded Thai place down Longpoint has gone SO far downhill as to be not worth the time and money. But Thai Jin has been consistently fabulous. All three curries are amazing. I'm partial to the green, but the red and yellow are both awesome as well. The curries have a lot of meat and veggies and have never been watery or oily. The pad thai is boss. They wrap the whole thing in a fried egg. Seriously, we probably pick up from this place twice a week now and I don't see that changing. Huge Fan. Big. Huge! read more

One day, shopping at the HEB next door, I noticed a sign popped up saying "Thai & Sushi" (No official sign yet as of 04/11/13. They've been open for only 5 days). Being of Thai-heritage and also a sushi lover, it definitely caught my attention. I don't think there's any other Thai or a sushi place in this part of Spring Branch...so it filled both voids! The question is...is it good? Aside from Thai and sushi, the menu also has Chinese and other Japanese dishes. But since I was drawn in by the "Thai & Sushi", the strategy was to try something Thai and then a sushi dish. But before that, and since I'm a sucker for it, I had to try the Cheese Rolls from the appetizer selection. It started our lunch off really well. The plum sauce complimented the rolls really well. So for the Thai food, we had the Drunken Noodle. It was nothing special but it was still as good as any other typical Thai restaurants around town. Since we are Thai, we did chat with them a bit and they did admit that the taste is aimed a bit more toward the "Americanized" palette (which is understandable because this area is not full of us Thais anyways). So for those who really know Thai food, you won't get the full exotic flavors of Thailand (for that, go to Asia Market by downtown). But this doesn't mean its bad. For the sushi, we ordered the Hokido from the Specialty Rolls section. I just have to say that it is "solid"...I liked it very much. But then the waitress suggested that we try their Sticky Rice with Mango for dessert. So we said OK and I am glad. Now this one tasted like "home"...just like the ones you can find in Thailand. Very good, and the mango is perfectly sweet. The toasted sesame seeds added a nice texture to it as well. Overall, the food is GOOD. Oh and the plating is nice too. In our Drunken Noodle, they had the traditional Thai carved side vegetables (in shape of flower). So they put a lot of "love" into their food. Other things: -Customer service was GREAT...they are very friendly. -The place had nice modern decor and looks very clean. (You wouldn't think it if you were looking from outside and esp since it's by HEB...at least I didn't) -Mostly Thai staff (feels authentic...haha) Like the other reviewer, I too, hope they stay here for a long time. I've been to this restaurant several times but I've been procrastinating on placing a review for this place. The service has always been good. The waiters are attentive and seem to care about how my dining experience is going. I always order the yellow curry (superman spicy level) and the chicken pad thai. I've been here during lunch and dinner. The lunch prices are actually pretty decent. For the price, they give decent sized portions for lunch time. The decor of the restaurant is typical Asian fare. However, the food is the star of the show. The yellow curry is delicious. My brother cries that it is too spicy but I love it. I always make sure I bring home extra so that I can consume it with my homecooked brown and white rice. The chicken pad thai is cooked well. The bean sprouts are fresh. The sauce is very unique. I highly recommend it for people that can't eat spicy. People with peanut allergies should beware though. Out of all the Houston Thai places, this ranks pretty highly on my list. read more

On a trip to Houston an used Yelp to find this place. Quite a nice surprise. Rarely does a combination Thai, Sushi, Chinese place execute well. This is a lovely place. Very friendly and efficient service. Food was very good. Sushi was fresh and presented on ice cubes to keep cool while eating. Curry heat is on a 1 to 6 scale with 6 being hottest. I like hot but got a 2. That was plenty hot and it allowed the flavor of the food to still come through. When in the area again we will be back. read more

I have been a customer at Thai Jin for the past 3+ years. I am also a huge fan of Thai food and when traveling around the country in various cities, I always have a Thai meal. Thai Jin ranks top 3 of the Thai restaurants I have eaten at and they are number 1 in Houston, where I have eaten at least 10 different Thai restaurants. The main thing that sets Thai Jin apart from others is that I never seem to taste any fishy taste in their food. My orders have always been correct and the choice of the various different levels of "heat" is consistent every time I eat there. The staff is friendly and the food is excellent. read more

I heard about this place through a coworker and decided to try it out for lunch. Nice, quint atmosphere and appears to be a popular lunch spot for professionals. I ordered the yellow curry lunch special and my coworkers had the pad Thai and various other curry. I would definitely recommend any of the curry! They were all delicious ! The lunch special comes with a small salad , miso soup and Vietnamese egg roll so it is a good portion of food. Above average Thai restaurant. The food is excellent. Pad Thai is recommended, and is a unique dish at this restaurant. Quality of all ingredients, particularly fresh vegetables, meat, and raw seafood is good. I would say the only bad thing is that the servers don't stop by your table much so you end up waiting a little. But once your order is placed things go quickly. Establishment is run by owners attentive to the needs of the customers. Also calling in for pick-up can be tricky but relatively convenient. Parking situation is good. Overall the few negatives are outweighed by some of the best Asian food in the Spring Shadows/Branch area. read more

When you start with a Tom Kha as good as that, a nice little tasty salad, and then move on to something called Garlic On Fire, you *must* be in a happy place... I really like the novelty of the menu having icons indicating items coming from China, Japan or Thailand. Only thing I could fault was the 30 minute wait after I ordered. Fair warning if you're used to going to the chinese buffet restaurants that usually inhabit this space, this is an a la carte menu only, at least for lunch. I noticed a sign about Thai restaurant opening soon in the HEB strip mall, Gessner @ Kempwood. I love Thai food so I couldnt wait. Finally weeks later the restaurant opened. I was impressed by the decor, especially in a strip mall. Well, I ordered my favorite, Chicken Pad Thai wth tofui. Well, I was a little disappoined.. I received tofu with chicken with mostly noodles. But after reading reviews on the site, I decided to give it another try on Mother's Day. I was VERY impressed. I ordered Chicken Pad Thai and Green Curry. My order cost just under $20.00. Very reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food.. I couldn't believe my order came from the same restaurant. Glad I gave the restaurant another try. Been a couple of times and the food was just ok, service was always very slow. I would give them 3 stars if it wasn't for my last visit when I bit down on something hard and broke my tooth. I dug out what looked like a small rock or piece of charcoal from my Pad Thai. The manager comped the meal but didn't really seem concerned - she went to check with her kitchen why and just came back and said we don't know why, this doesn't happen here.
