Service has gone downhill. I hope the owner and manager read this. This is some of THEE best Thai food Ive ever had. Im from Calif so we have great Thai food. For the past decade Ive been stopping in here every time I visit Marion. At least a few times each visit, the food is that good.. This time most of the staff looked like they are still in college. Our server was just scattered. I didnt get her name but she was blond, wore a long skirt and seemed new. My order wasnt right, our soups came out last and I had to waive her down for service. Always had great service here before. Not all but most college kids nowadays just seem to not pay attention and tbh a little lazy. Theyd rather chitchat in the back then work. Not all of them of course but it seems like most. Our fast food places have terrible service too out in Cali because of them. Please please go back to hiring actual servers. The young girl at the reception handling take out was great. She was pleasant on the phone. Multitasking, taking phone orders, helping guests etc keep her! See u next time! read more

No complaints. I've been to Thailand and the dishes we had were pretty on point flavor wise. The portion sizes are beyond generous and the wait staff is quite friendly. We had Pad Woon Sen and the Duck Curry. A single portion could have fed 3 people. We enjoyed the leftovers as much as the restaurant experience. Also, their Thai Tea with Rumchata is delicious. Not a combo I ever would have put together on my own, and the tea wasn't overly sweet, which was appreciated. read more

Great Thai restaurant in Marion. Found on yelp and as all the other reviewers said, it did not disappoint. Ordered vegetable spring rolls, and Thai fried rice with extra shrimp and it all was delicious. The food was so fresh and flavorful. The wait staff are all so kind and attentive. My waiter was very nice, knowledgeable and attentive to us. I also ordered a Thai Ice Tea and it was good as well. Definitely a different twist on an ice tea. My first time having one and liked it. This place stay busy. We got there around 4pm and by 5pm the place was practically full to capacity and I see why. Only reason I knocked a couple stars off is between this place and Marion Red Lobster my credit card was compromised and someone tried to fraudulently use it. Luckily my bank Chase caught it quick, still a pain none the less. When I was in town I only used my card at two locations where the card was taken out of my sight away from me and where all information, including the security code on the back could of been retrieved. So beware if you're using a credit card this could happen, especially if they probably can tell you're from out of town, like I'm sure they knew we were. Thai D provides delicious, authentic Thai food, which is hard to come by in Carbondale. I wasn't overly starving, so I ordered a small hot & sour soup and spring rolls. I've had some awful hot and sour soup at other Thai place, but here the balance was beautiful, it was PACKED with tofu, and it wasn't broth-based, but thick and filling. The spring rolls were also delicious, filled with fresh flavors and vibrant colors. I was surprised not to see any whole shrimp (or even chunks of shrimp!) visible, but I'll just assume it was in there. I also had to pay $1 for peanut sauce that appeared runny, but tasted great, so it was hard to be upset! My sister ordered the Pad Thai, which is enough to feed two! It was also packed with lots of fresh veggies, the perfect amount of sauce, and tons of chicken. There was so much chicken, in fact, that I stared stealing some off of her plate and dunking it in my peanut sauce- kind of like chicken satay! :) Our friend ordered the Fried Rice, and even he couldn't finish it! HUGE portions! The service was good. Our drinks were always filled and they were prompt. No complaints there! Definitely a good choice if you're in the mood for Thai! read more

My friends and I go here once a month (we do not live nearby). We go here every time because the service has always been top notch and the food is incredible. If you REALLY like spicy food, as I do, level 8 is where it's at, the heat builds as you eat. The restaurant is considerate about caring for people with sensitivities to heat and allergies. $$ wise the prices are budget friendly, I hate going to a sit down restaurant and paying entree prices for appetizers. At Thai-D, I bought 3 entrees and 3 appetizers including drinks for $80 including tip. read more

Tried this place again for lunch and their free soup was uber yummy! I must have gotten it on an off day before. Chicken broth with veggies and a nice blend of salt and pepper. Overall to make it short, their service will always sucks and the noodles are always a little too al dente (undercooked), but the food is authentic and good! Had a disappointing meal this visit. Appetizer of spring rolls was good and excellent service as always. The curry wasn't good at all. I chose yellow curry which is a favorite. The "curry" was a brown, thick gravy that tasted like corn starch instead of curry. Looks like they are cutting corners and not getting good ingredients. I'll stick with noodles next time. read more

I went here because a co-worker said someone else on the team thought this was better than Thai Taste in Carbondale. Now I haven't been to that one, but another friend who's been around here a lot for work says she's only heard good things about Thai Taste. Objectively, I was disappointed with Thai D. The tom yum soup was fine. It's a pretty traditional Thai soup and I don't think I've ever had a bad tom yum. The spice level warning on the menu is tailored to Midwestern hot, FYI. The 5 being super spicy is laughable if you actually like spice, it's more like just good spice. The problem was the pad kra pao. I asked for suggestions for something with plenty of basil and that's what my waitress pointed out. I was thinking something like basil beef (or pork, as it were), but what I actually got seemed more like a saucy Chinese dish with very little basil. I really don't remember tasting basil and only saw a couple leaves. The dish as a whole just didn't have a Thai taste to it, just a salty and copious sauce. My best guess is that I got the wrong dish, but even then it honestly didn't taste like a Thai dish at all. I won't say go with Thai Taste instead since I haven't actually tried it yet, but that's my hunch right now. read more

Came here for dinner with friends to celebrate a birthday. It's located in a strip mall in the parking lot of Walmart. The place wasn't too busy. It's on the smaller side but nonetheless, the decor was nice. The hostess was friendly and we were seated promptly. The menu isn't huge but there are various items to choose from including noodles, rice dishes, curries, salads and appetizers. Here's what we ordered: -chicken satay: ordinary -summer roll: bland - nothing special -fried calamari - tiny portion for $9 -pad thai with chicken and shrimp: my dish and my fav - it was flavorful and the portion was huge with plenty of chicken and shrimp throughout. Shrimp was perfectly cooked. The crushed peanuts and lime juice made it! -roasted duck curry: overly salty/sweet for my taste and duck was overcooked -traditional noodle soup: got level 5 spice and wasn't spicy at all and broth could've used more seasoning -sticky rice with custard: good but some of the rice was a bit too al dente so it was hard to eat I know I slammed most of the dishes we had but the service totally made up for it. Unlike other reviewers, the service I experienced was amazing. The server was friendly, knowledgable and patient with such a large party. Additionally she was very attentive with refills and checking in on us. They have these neat buttons that you can press to get the servers attention which is clever. Reminded me of button you can press on an airplane lol. Overall, I enjoyed my dish a great deal and would definitely come back for it and the outstanding service. read more

Thai-D - Pad Thai with shrimp and chicken - Thai Near Me - Marion, Illinois

After a pretty long drive from Toronto, we briefly unloaded all of our stuff at our motel and needed to find a place to eat, STAT! After all, I was pretty famished...11 hours of driving will do that to you, especially forgoing lunch in lieu of making good time. After asking the girl at the front desk for some local joints (she was lovely but I didn't care for her recos) I googled "best restaurants in Marion IL" and with Thai-D at the top of Yelp and TripAdvisor, we decided that they both couldn't be wrong...and they weren't! After a bit of a struggle finding the place (our GPS led us astray for the SECOND time in Marion!) we finally found it in a fairly nondescript strip mall and wandered in. We were very warmly welcomed, seated and served by Erin, who was fantastic. She gave us her recommendation (I'm a regular Thai foodie, my mother not so much) and if her definition of what is "hot" isn't quite the same as mine, I'll forgive her this one little thing. My Pad Kee Mao with Tofu was truly fantastic, even if I wish I had gotten an 8 or 9 instead of a 5 on the spiciness meter! Oh well, she didn't know that I have a borderline hot sauce addiction. Mum enjoyed her (much milder) chicken Pad Thai and I also loved their house "Thai-D Salad"...a fantastic appetizer. Also got a free desert by checking in on Yelp (it pays to do so) and went with the very refreshing coconut ice cream. All in all, a fantastic meal. The place itself is clean, brightly lit and actually the antithesis of most of the good Thai places I've been to...for whatever reason, I've found that the slightly seedier looking Thai restaurants have the best food but Thai-D was not only delicious but very...well, tidy. So although Southern Illinois may not scream "amazing Thai food", I was very pleasantly surprised. It's better than a lot of places I've tried in much bigger cities. I may not stopover again in Marion anytime soon but if I am even remotely close, I would go out of my way to try Thai-D again. It's that good. read more

I was leery of Thai food so far away from a major metropolis, but Thai D did not disappoint. It was easy to find off I-57, located in a strip mall near the big shopping mall. We met friends for lunch. The Pad Thai chicken was portioned enough for two. Plus they give you soup and an egg roll with the lunch specials. Food was good, as was the brewed ice tea. We love this place. We try to eat here 2-3x a month. We both love spicy, and order level 8 or level 10. I usually 10, and he is usually 8. We always ask for Cindy as our server. She is just our favorite, always knows what we need before we ask. I have had Thai taste once, and it was not memorable. It was challenging to locate this place as it was part of the mall but we persevered and very glad we did. Thanks to fellow yelpers for not leading us astray. First time to be in the area and not only did it not disappoint, it impressed us. Ambiance was great, plenty of parking and they even had a call button right on your table to call your server! Talk about customer service. Now the food...we ordered their mixed appetizer, had the tom kha soup and the fish. All of it was flavorful and superb. Serving portion was great and very reasonable prices. We even had the tom kha soup leftover and had it for dinner the next night.. thankfully the hotel had a microwave and it was still delicious!
