Lovely restaurant located in Miami Lakes-Main Street. The restaurant serves Thai cuisine and a wide variety of sushi and Thai dishes. I ordered the shrimp shumai and chicken Pad Thai. Unfortunately the Pad Thai wasn't my favorite dish, although the presentation was nice, the chicken had no flavor, the rice noodles felt overcooked and the missing crushed peanuts made this dish overly sweet. As for the shumai shrimp the bites were good and the sauce complement them well. The service was great, very hospitable and friendly. Nice venue, great location and complementary parking available. THE FOOD: In our visit we ordered the Tom Ka-Gai 5/5 creamy,light savory, packed it flavor - and felt like a hug. The Pad Thai 5/5 - legit the BEST pad Thai we've ever tried! Flavors were balanced, phenomenal texture. Kang Neau 5/5 beef and peppers in my favorite ingredients - curry & coconut milk! This place has been around for such a long time. I had not gotten food there since 2022 I believe. Unfortunately the restaurant really needs an upgrade. Let me start off by saying the service was A+ Our server was attentive without being annoying and seemed to know exactly what we needed when we needed it. She was amazing! I ordered the Tom Yum soup, which was alright. Nothing over the top and to be honest was a little bland. The Thai tea was a little too sweet for my taste but they were very accommodating and removed the creamy portion since I have a dairy sensitivity. Perhaps that's why it was so sweet bc it needed to be mixed with the creamer. The food was middle of the road, but wasn't bad and was hot. The restaurant itself is clean but dated. I have never thought of Hialeah as having wow quality restaurants. This one landed in the mediocre range. My boss who dined with me thought a bit higher. My plate was just bland with no outstanding flavour to it. I had the mixed vegetables which I asked for stir fried and I'm quite sure that I was given steamed. No spice, no nothing with mushy vegetables. My boss' order was botched. Service was good but there was quite a bit of confusion when it came to custom orders. Because of the lack of Thai restaurants in this area, this may be one of your only choices. If you are able to expand the area that you are willing to go then I would try for better. Seriously speaking, this is not one of those places that you want to have really loud conversation, especially if it's of the personal kind. The ambiance is intimate, romantic even, so for a rowdy get-together it may not be the best fit. That being said, this quaint restaurant will tug on your heartstrings. Found in Main Street in Miami Lakes, you don't have to worry about parking and there's plenty of things to do before and after coming here. Please be aware though that this restaurant has some odd hours; I know they close sometime in the afternoon between lunch and dinner, but honestly I don't know the exact hours. Anyway, I have no idea if they take reservations or not, but in all the times I've gone, I have never seen this restaurant fully packed. Mind you, I've gone once every couple of years or so. Somehow this clearly isn't enough, and well, yet it is. The food is fabulous. We had an array of miso soups, sushi, chicken Thai noodles, fried cheesecakes, and Thai donuts. Oh and coffee! I cannot comment on anything but the miso soup and the chicken Thai donuts, but everyone was happy and no one complained. Heck, one of my girlfriends ordered the coffee, offered it to another, and next thing I know she ordered some as well, so it must have been yummy. The chicken Thai noodles were on point. Perfectly seasoned and with lots of delicious green broccoli. The Thai donuts were spectacular, although admittedly the plate they brought them in confused me. The space is apparently on the bottom right side. I'm so used to having the container on top, but this is just a mere technicality. With all this, the one reason I give this place four stars is simply that they are ridiculously understaffed. Yes, the restaurant isn't packed, but they had two or three waitresses maximum. Having to ask for water in a restaurant is a huge pet peeve of mine, and well, my throat at some point was dryer than the Sahara Desert. Not to mention that this happened twice, and with all the running around, one of my girlfriends had to flag down our waitress. Decided to try a new spot for lunch in the area and was in the mood for Thai. They offer a big lunch special menu that ranges from $7-$12 depending on if you order from the Thai menu or sushi menu. When I walked in I wasn't sure if I was supposed to seat myself or wait since a couple of workers saw me but said nothing. I made myself noticed by one guy and he finally told me someone will be right with me. I decided to go with the Shrimp Pad Thai. It was very orange which I'm not used to. My mom and I wanted to try out a new spot near where we live and after a few minutes of scrolling through Yelp, we found this spot! I used to work at the movie theatre in Mainstreet and remember walking by this restaurant a few times, it's been around for quite a while. We looked through the menu and were amazed by how large the menu was! So much to choose from! We decided to stick to the lunch menu since we didn't want our portions to be too big. We ordered - Spring Rolls as an appetizer. One order came with 3 rather small spring rolls. Don't get me wrong, they were yummy, but... 3 small rolls? Lol. Oh well, it was only around $5 so it's not a huge deal... they tasted good and I recommend them. - Shrimp Pad Thai ($8.95).... HORRIBLE!!! I hate returning food and almost never do it, but wow... this was absolutely disgusting. I've had plenty of pad Thai and this was nothing like what I expected. It was red, smelled HORRIBLE (I lost my appetite), and tasted like straight up fish oil.... I can't describe how bad it was. I politely explained that this is not what I expected and the waitress totally understood. She even told me she doesn't like the way they cook it there and that when she cooks it herself at home she omits the fish sauce because it's very overwhelming and smells putrid. - Sautéed Beef with Bamboo shoots and peppers ($8.95)... mediocre. My mom wasn't impressed and said there was way too much liquid (looked like a soup)... I usually pick off her plate but it didn't look appetizing so I opted out. - Thai Donuts. Thai Cafe's menu is so vast that it is in alphanumerical code. Yes, they have so many things to order that they found the need to invent a culinary version of the Dewey Decimal System for their menu. From my experience big menus are not a good thing. Typically, the larger the selection there is, the more the food suffers in quality and taste. I've tried their steak fried rice (R-1), sweet and sour chicken (C-8), roasted duck (H-2), and Pad Thai (N-1). All of which are disappointingly oily AF. I mean the rice and pad Thai is somewhat decent but I don't understand why it's so oily. The sweet and sour chicken and duck is a bust. I will never order those again. Thai Cafe's saving grace is their sushi bar. It isn't the most amazing sushi but with the lack of good sushi places in the area, Thai Cafe will do. I typically order the Thai Cafe Roll and Dragon Roll and I'm always satisfied with the consistency and cut. The sushi itself taste great. Considering it all, I'd be willing to eat Thai Cafe if i was invited to go but it wouldn't be my first choice. I think you should flip a coin and let chance decide if you should give it a go. read more

We visited Thai Cafe on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere, and we were promptly greeted by a very nice young man. The reason I'm giving Thai Cafe 2 stars instead of one is due to the attentive service of this young waiter and because the Tom Ka that I had was delicious. The rest of the food was mediocre at best. I ordered a dish with shrimp, and found them to be tasteless, rubbery and small in size. My husband had a sushi roll that was quite unremarkable. Let me start off and say the service was as good as it good be they were SEVERELY understaffed and had one woman running around doing everything (shout out to who I presume to be the owner [bald, older gentleman] who didn't help her at all while she was dealing with sit down customers, walk-ins, calls, and take-out. Now to the food. It was all terrible. Terrible showing of what Thai food actually is. Even if you are looking for "faster" Thai food then go to Thai Express. Ordered the jumping squid (that wasn't edible we returned it and still paid full price even though we each took one bite to try and both didn't like it) then the tigers eye was the same variation of the jumping squid just with beef and tasted...mediocre at best. Beef wasn't fresh and didn't have a good flavor profile. The gyoza were basic they had a bad oil taste. We tried conch sushi and I won't comment on that because even though we didn't like it, it was our first time trying it. Cannot tell if it was the food itself or the lack of quality in the restaurant. Now onto the final entrees. I ordered a beef and broccoli dish and my boyfriend ordered a beef noodle dish. We were starving and we didn't even finish the meal. During this time we saw customers walk out due to a lack of service (which is NO FAULT to the woman working she was CONSTANTLY moving and doing the best that she could which was better than a majority of workers) and to top it all off me and my boyfriend have had the runs since dinner TWO NIGHTS AGO!!! Overall terrible food, shotty service, gave the runs. Will never go back. Obviously there are other reviews that rate it highly so just be aware that while there may be good experiences there are such bad experiences that it may not even be worth the risk. Thai cafe is one of those places I've been going to practically my whole life. It's a Miami lakes staple located right on Main Street. It's cozy, dimly lit & has an authentic feel. The menu is extensive with alot of variety including noodle dishes, fried rice, sushi, even frog legs! Most recently I ordered a salmon lovers roll that was very fresh with a side of eel sauce for dipping. I also tried their veggie soup. The broth of the soup has good flavor but you have to be ok with eating small pieces of plain steamed vegetables in there. I also ordered iced green tea which isn't on the menu but I wouldn't recommend it-- it tastes like plain water & looks artificially green to me ? I'll stick to hot tea in the future.
