We ate here as a big group, so we called for a reservation ahead of time. We ordered the set meal for 8 people. The food was amazing! Authentic Thai food in the area. The servings has big portion sizes, we even have some leftovers. If you're looking for authentic Thai food, this is the place to be. My wife and I love this place--from our travels to Asia, the tastes are authentic here and delicious. They have evolved as a restaurant--it took quite awhile to get a liquor license and 'mild' used to mean hot. However, this year we have noticed that they control how spicey the food is--if you have someone in your house who can't eat spicey food, they will appreciate it. Let me start by saying I've never had the privilege of tasting their food. Every time I attempt to try this place it's always closed. I go there during regulars hours and I can never find it open. I've tried 3 times already. Needless to say, if you're going to close your restaurant when it's supposed to be open try to let the public know somehow, maybe put it as the voice mails on your phone. This used to be my go-to place for Thai food in Surrey until I noticed a change in the servers and management the past couple months. The usual managers and workers are no longer there - I'm not sure if there was a change in ownership or what exactly happened, but the usual service and workers have suddenly disappeared. The food used to be awesome, but the past couple visits have been really disappointing. I really loved their green chicken curry and my boyfriend loved their cashew chicken but both lack flavour and are really greasy now. The service has also gone sour. The managers don't know their menus and not accommodating to request, the new staff are not trained well, and the service is not as friendly and welcoming as it once was. I may go back once more and hope that things have gone back to the way they are, but I'm super disappointed in the service and food coming from this restaurant now.. read more

Decided to order Thai food as we were getting tired of Indian. Trust me I love Indian food but needed a bit lighter far. We ordered the Pad Thai, Red Curry, and some coconut rice. The Pad Thai was ok, was missing a bit of depth and a bit too peanut buttery tasting. The Red Curry we ordered mild as we thought the kids might try some. Well they wouldn't even go near it. So it was pretty good for how mild it was, I prefer spicy. The coconut rice was good, Not mushy and flavoured well. PROS: 5 min from my house, pretty good flavours, they substituted tofu for meat in my orders, curry portion was good. CONS: Flavours were just ok, Def more expensive than Indian food (comparing ordering 2 curries and rice it was about $10 more). Will I go back? Maybe. I would def recommend it to people who are not too sure about Thai food and don't want to get scared off by super spicy flavours. read more

I love Thai food! I rented a house near a nice beach 2 hours outside Bangkok & spent a lot of time there many years ago & love the people, the customs, the language and the food! This is my favorite Thai food restaurant in North America. The food is genuine, simple yet beautifully plated and perfectly spiced! This is not the usual Chinese version, franchise-cookie-cutter variation or American McThai-food that most North American restaurants serve. Thai by Thai is a cut above and yet is still very much a family style Thai home cooking experience. In many ways it is better than experiencing Thai food in Thailand because the quality of the meat & produce used here is far better than what is available in SE Asia. The luncheon special, available 7 days a week is a gift to both your wallet and taste buds! I particularly love: the crab cakes or satay for appetizers; the stuffed egg plant, green curry, Penang curry, or ginger beef which are all outstanding main courses; the Larb salad is refreshing and addictive and for great deserts: fried banana & ice cream or a simple tapioca pudding. The atmosphere is simple, attractive & authentic. The service is great: as the name suggests it is Thai owned and operated, serving up an excellent and economical eating experience. Thai by Thai is another one of those places you just drive by without ever giving it a second thought. As key as location is, word of mouth is more important. I was told about this place by some friends who had visited Thailand and absolutely loved the place. To be honest, I've only had Thai food a on handful of occasions, so my experience with it isn't as great as other foods. That being said, my friends raved about this place and how much they always looked forward to coming here. Be warned, parking is pretty limited here and very tight. read more

5:00 pm on Saturday, had a craving for Thai food after a hot summers day of hiking. Needed something light and spicy after reading a few of the other very qualified reviewers I chose Thai by Thai. Very happy with my decision. We had the yellow curry and jasmine rice and it was delicious. The service was very warm and inviting and not in an over the top insincere way. The room was small, but big enough for us to forget about a baby sitting across the room from us. Server: here is your food. Us: thank you. Me: This is very, very good. They have really friendly service even when we do delivery as well. Good restaurant for gluten free& dairy free options. They will adjust to your allergy needs. Authentic thai cuisine hidden amongst the crowd of Indian restaurants along Scott Road. We were informed by our waiting staff that the chef is the former head chef of Thai House. The food is on par with what Thai house offers. I started off with a spicy and flavorful soup, followed by a red curry with pork. Came here with a friend before going to the Surrey Art Gallery. I LOVE Thai food, but find that most places aren't really spicy enough, especially in the downtown area. We ordered the green curry, Tom Yum, Thai by Thai Fried rice, and the Papaya Salad. Most places I go for papaya salad, it's usually sour but not spicy. I love how at this place you can request the spiciness of your dishes. We got medium for most of the dishes. The Tom Yum was one of the best I've ever had. It was spicy and sour, and so flavourful. Then came the papaya salad. I've never had it this spicy, and was very pleased. The papaya didn't have a weird sour taste like most places do. The Green curry was SO flavourful and a mixture of spicy sweet salty, that was so perfectly balanced. And finally, the Thai by Thai fried rice. Oh man. I've never had fried rice like this before. I thought maybe it wouldn't have enough flavour byt the looks of it... but I was so wrong. It was a mix of a whole bunch of delicious goodness in one plate. And just the enough of spice. Every dish we had was amazing, and even my picky friend said eveyrthing was good. I don't come to Surrey much (at all) but if i come back again, i'll be eating here. read more

After reading all the positive reviews, we decided to try It out. It was very delicious and fresh tasting. We tried the prawn cakes- different but tasty- and a prawn eggplant curry which was excellent. Very flavorful. Lastly, we had a red prawn curry which was only ok. The balance was slightly off and it was too sweet. Service was great and they do serve alcohol now. I wish we tried this place sooner! read more

Went in for late dinner around 8pm. Restaurant had two customers just finishing by the time we sat down so we ordered and got everything quickly it then got busy within those 10 mins almost 6 tables filled thank god we didn't have to wait!! We ordered the chicken wings, papaya salad, yellow curry, prawn pad thai and the pineapple fried rice. Wings were great, it comes with a spicy vinegar that was really good. The Pad Thai was very heavy.. too much sauce compared to other places but that's just me. Thai ice tea, Yellow curry & pineapple fried rice just as good as anywhere else. My husband and I ordered from Thai by Thai for the first time last night based on a recommendation from a friend. I have to say, of all the Thai restaurants we've eaten at in the Lower Mainland, this was by far the best. I can't say enough about how delicious and hot our food was when it arrived (we ordered via delivery). We ordered the Pad Thai, Ginger Beef, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Red Curry with chicken and Tom Kah soup with chicken. I couldn't get enough of the Tom Kah soup...I want to eat buckets of this stuff...it's insanely good! Thai by Thai will be on our favorite list from now on! Great job! read more

I'm updating my review as I went back October 4th, 2016 for lunch and the food and service were great. Green Curry Chicken was rich and delicious with tender chicken. Their back thank goodness. The last 3 times I've been the food has been going downhill fast ( September and October 2014) such a disappointing situation. I think it has to do with the new second Thai by Thai opening on King George and about 102. They probably have neglected the Scott road location and the Staff and Food is not good. Their lunch specials are delicious and the perfect size for such a great price. Who would have thought that tucked away in the small area north on Scott Rd. is perhaps one of the best tasting Thai restaurant in Surrey! Yelp reviewers are spot on about this gem - really authentic food at a reasonable price and friendly service too. If you've ever been to Thailand this restaurant will remind you of the one's up north in Chang Rai and Chang Mai district with it's electic motifs and various Thai ornaments. Been here a couple of times and have enjoyed all their dishes except the sour soup Tom Yum - which I found lacking that sourness that I craved - who knows, maybe the chef was tired that night. Everything else was spot on - pad thai, green/red curry, pad siew (broad noodles), pad prik khing,ginger beef were delicious. Portions are fair and so is the price. My girlfriend and I always come to this place for dinner. We love their selections with photos at the back to pick whatever we want to try. Up till now after more than 10 times coming to this place, the quality of their food stays as good as every time we visited. We usually order the Goong Woon Zen. (Stir-fried prawn with glass noodle, cucumber, spicy sauce) We will try 1 or 2 different dishes each time. We also love to order their deep fried banana for dessert.
