Really enjoyed this place. Great service despite a packed house. I've eaten food in Thailand a thousand times but wanted my (older) parents to give it a go. Our server helped them navigate the menu and adjust spicy for their preferred level. Mom's pad Thai was solid. Chicken satays were freshly cooked (some places just fire off a bunch at the beginning of service). Generous shrimp with my order. You can tell that the ingredients are fresh and labored over. There are a few traditional American Chinese items on the menu if you have a fussy eater. My only complaint was red bell peppers and onions in my Tom Yum (yuck...don't run into that much)...maybe it's a Florida thing. It was still very good but I would have loved fresh chilis (I think they use chili oil as many places do). Overall I will be back! read more

Vegan amazingness! We were traveling through on our way back to Miami and happened to come across this place. So glad we did! The owner just recently created an ENTIRE menu, front and back that is all vegan. She made an entirely separate area in the kitchen for vegan food to be prepared without the risk of cross contamination. We love coconut lemon grass soup, and we started with that. It was so delicious that we immediately ordered a second. We then ordered the pineapple curry, which was so wonderful too. The veggies were all fresh, not frozen and you could definitely tell. We also have to avoid gluten, since our son is Celiac. This was no issue and she understood just what to do to prevent cross contamination of gluten as well. The restaurant was clean, the food came fast and tasted super fresh. Win! read more

I came here for lunch with a friend today and were excited to order from their separate vegan menu. I must say, I remember why I don't eat here often. TOO EXPENSIVE!! We ordered a coconut soup, which I must say was delicious. An order of fresh rolls, which were okay, nothing fancy. Plus, an order of pad thai, which was a gooey, bland, off white mess. There was literally one piece of broccoli and sauce was so bland. I had to ask, is this your regular pad thai? The waiter took back the noodles and had the chef make it more peanut flavored. Ugh, I was so disappointed. The noodles came back and still sucked. Not to mention they charged $2 for duck sauce. This place is a joke!! We paid $36 for a SHARED LUNCH!! I guess if you never ate Thai food anywhere else you might enjoy this place. We ended up here late on Sunday because the choices were limited. We ordered crispy spring rolls, sweet and sour fish and pad seew with pork. The crispy spring rolls show up without lettuce or basil to wrap them. When I asked if they had lettuce to wrap them they looked at me like I had three heads. They did bring basil leaves but proceeded to charge me an extra $2 for them. The fish was supposed to be sweet and sour, there was no sour and a little sweet. The pad seew was over cooked and taste less. I cannot speak about quality of food, because we did not have a chance to taste it, but quality of service is unacceptable. We called in advance and have been told that reservation is not required; when we actually came to the place it was busy, but one table was clean and ready. We were standing next to the entrance door and being nothing but totally ignored. Waiters passing by, taking orders, serving food and not even look at us, or better say - they were looking through us, like we were made out of cellophane. After about 10 minutes of being completely ignored we simply left. Definitely won't step a foot in this place again. read more

Hands down, the best Thai food we have ever had. The Nam Som salad was SO flavorful. We also had crab Rangoon, which had the cream cheese mixed with some curry - never had anything like it! Drunken noodles were also a favorite, along with Thai fried rice and the Volcano fish was my husband's favorite dish. They have a separate vegan menu, as stated by others. Clean bathrooms. My wife and friends where just eating there tonight and right after they got there food they started to rush them to finish because more customers where coming in. They brought containers to there table and started packing there stuff while they where still eating so they would leave. Maybe they think they have a food truck that would be more suitable for that kind of service. The wife said they are kind of expensive also. read more

This place is amazing y'all! It's a must come place if you're in Venice and want Thai. I am visiting from out of town and came here twice in one week! The staff is super friendly and even remembered me which was sweet. We go the Tom yum soup, drunken noodle, glass noodle salad, red curry, pad graw POW and hot pepper and all were so good. My family loves Thai food, and this lovely little restaurant gave us some of the best we've had in a long time! We had an appetizer sampler and chicken skewers to start. I had high hopes of dining at this restaurant frequently. They opened at 5 pm. When I arrived at 5:10 pm, the servers were sitting at a table eating dinner and acted like I had intruded. I wanted to sit at a table with natural light to read my book, however the woman insisted that I sit in the corner. Another customer spoke rudely and loudly into his speaker phone the entire time I was there. Couldn't wait to get out! Service was poor and the food was bland. This place has great authentic Thai food. Parking and space in general is the only thing lacking. With just a 6 car parking lot and a very packed dining room, it's not the place for quiet discussions or for those whom have social anxiety. It is, however, great for take-out. This is a find! Great Thai food, with wonderful women who treat me as a guest rather than a "customer". I usually eat here alone and always feel welcome. I've tried several dishes and recommend the Pad Thai (ask for the spice dishes on the side) and the drunken noodles with chicken. I ordered take out ... sesame tofu. the sauce had zero corn starch or thickening agent, so it was like soup. Disgusting!! My tofu ended up being squishy and disgusting And the Watery sauce liquified the coating on the fried tofu. Sesame tofu should be crispy with a sticky coating. This is authentic Thai food folks, this is not watered down Chinese food version you'll see in SRQ. The Pad Thai, Gang Gai, Tom yum soup, is all real and not modified for Western tastes. Went there tonight and did something I've never done before: returned the food and left the restaurant. I don't get the 5-star review someone else posted. This stuff was really THAT bad. Spring rolls, deep-fried, were dripping with grease and tasted like fish. (They weren't.) How do you screw up wanton soup? Seems hard -- but Thai Bistro managed it. We told the manager very quietly. She took great offense, checked to see how much of our food we had eaten (almost none) and told us "Don't come back!" My wife calmly replied as we left, "I don't think you'll have to worry about that." Good money. Bad food. We ended up at Bonefish Grill. This review is actually consolidated from all my visits, with my most recent one being tonight. Dining companion and I feel this is the best thai place in the Venice/Nokomis area, but still believe that the Thai restaurant up in Gulfgate in Sarasota is still the torch-bearer for Thai food. Thai Bistro is in a small strip mall on E. Venice Ave. During the season, you will usually have to wait a little while before you are seated. However, in the summer, we have never waited, although it does not seem to be hurting for business either. I usually order the crab rangoons, which has always been listed as a "special" on the special board in front. In fact, I believe they are the same specials every single night. I'm not sure why they call them specials, because most of the items seem to be on the menu at the same price. The crab rangoons are won ton wrappers with a curry cream cheese. I don't believe there is any crab in these, but that's fine, because they are very good anyway. There are only four dishes I have ever ordered here, but have tried many others and they are all pretty good. I usually order either the pad thai with chicken, the Amazing chicken, red curry chicken or the Volcano chicken. The pad thai is pretty good, and it does not have that aluminum taste that is noticeable at other places. The Amazing chicken is chicken, broccoli and scallions served in a creamy penaut sauce. Absolutely delicious, except sometimes the sauce is a little watery. The red curry chicken is good, but wished the serving size was a little bigger and that the sauce was not as watery. The Volcano chicken is a little bit more than other dishes, but it is worth it. It is battered crispy chicken breast pieces in a sweet chili sauce. Great dish. The service at Thai Bistro is usually excellent. It is owned and managed by three sisters who are always there. They truly seem to care whether you enjoyed your food. read more

Chicken Coconut Soup is delicious! ---- I wont speak much to the other items on the menu as I have just had the Coconut Soup and Pad Thai (which was just ok for me) But the Coconut Soup is so wonderful You can choose chicken, tofu, or shrimp to go in it! If your in the mood definitely order it to go and you can pick it up quick to enjoy it at home or hotel. I would say it serves two people as the container was pretty large. For the cost of $3.50 thats a great deal! Definitely recommend it! This place does not have a lot of parking at all.
