My first Yelp review! Was excited to have some Thai food after having had Southern bbq for the last 2 days. I was pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness of this place. But that's where all the nice ends. We ordered lemongrass chicken wings. They were deep fried so hard it was like biting into granite. They were indicated as spicy, but had no spice to them. I will say they were aromatic with lemongrass smell. Too bad I couldn't enjoy them because it hurt my teeth and the roof of my mouth to bite them. We also ordered beef salad, #25. What we received was a pathetic serving of shredded green papaya and a side of peanuts. When I asked the waitress what that was, she smilingly told me papaya salad. I told her we ordered the beef salad. She argued and said that my husband had "pointed to" the papaya salad, even though he SPOKE the words "number 25 beef salad." She made no attempt to rectify this nor even offer an apology for the mix up in her order taking skills. My husband ordered Pho dac biet, his go to when he isn't familiar with the restaurant. I mean, you can't really screw up Pho. They must not have been too off because he ate all the noodles, but left the broth. I ordered the basil fried rice and drunken noodles. The rice was good. The monstrosity that arrived claiming to be drunken noodles was horrendous! They deep fried the noodles to the same inedible crisp as the wings. They ground up the chicken (it's not pad grawpao, it's supposed to be pad keemao!) The clear sauce was way too salty. Not an ounce of spice, which is the whole point of drunken noodles. It's supposed to be so spicy it makes you dizzy like you're drunk. I let the noodles soak all the excess, salty gravy, hoping it would moisten them up. But nope, even at the end of the meal, of which I ate 3 bites of the noodle dish, the crispy noodles were still much too hard to attempt again. The check arrived with the papaya salad on the bill. I paid it as is. I'm not really one to complain to get free food even when it's not what I ordered. I did ask the waitress if she was Thai, which she answered no. I asked if the owner was Thai, which she answered no. I told her it was clear no one involved with the restaurant is Thai because this (pointing to food on the table) is not Thai food. And it's quite an embarrassment to call it Thai food. She had no response. At least she stayed consistent with her lack of apology and lack of rectifying the situation. It's a good thing I was only passing through, because I'll never have to experience this awful food again! P.s. I've had many dishes off the menu and they're all delicious. I really appreciate that I can substitute tofu in almost everything. Staff are friendly, service is quick, and the inside of the restaurant is nice. read more

Passing through town and my daughter wanted pad Thai. They use the cheater method with ketchup instead of the traditional tamarind sauce. It wasn't stir fried at all and the noodles were broken up to like 1" in length. No peanuts either. I make better pad Thai with stuff I can buy in the middle of nowhere in Wisconsin. read more

I don't understand how this restaurant has the average rating it does unless the residents of Springfield don't know what good Thai food tastes like or we arrived on a very off day. My colleagues and I all agreed that this was probably some of the worst Thai food any of us had ever had, and we each had different dishes. I have never had a bad experience at Thai Basil- I've gone for lunch and dinner many times now. Being a vegetarian I am thrilled at how many options are available to be made with tofu (most of the menu). My husband is a meatatarian and he always enjoys his options as well. You can customize how hot or spicy you want your dish. Great, cheap lunch specials (on Saturdays too). Decent dinner prices as well. The vegetables and food are always fresh. read more

They don't honor what they say. We arrived in plenty of time for them to serve us a meal before they closed and they refused to serve us unless it was carry out. As we'd been driving from Kansas City to Chicago today we couldn't do carry out. Eating in the car wouldn't work...not with Thai food. This restaurant will never see any of my business. read more

Former owners of Little Saigon. Awesome place. Great food that's fast and fresh. Modern design inside - very Ikea. Everything I have had has been perfect. Veggies are crisp, spices just right. Great variety on menu. Their Pad Thai is the best in town. Their basil chicken is very good as well. Great flavor. As far as the appetizers, we are guilty of finding a good thing and sticking with it. Steamed dumplings! Its not a date place by any means but its a solid place for quick meal. Visited Thai Basil on a Tuesday night with a colleague. We ordered bubble tea, and what we were served was a smoothie with hard dough-like balls of starch in it. The smoothie itself was good, but not what we ordered. We wanted Pho, but the server said they were out. OUT OF PHO? We chose something else, and I can say that my food was fantastic. Meh, wasn't impressed with Thai Basil. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for carry out, not a customer in sight but the same went for the staff - totally MIA from the counter. When someone did arrive they kept talking to a co-worker behind the scenes and that left a bad taste in my mouth. Now for the meal.... Food was okay, nothing fabulous. Can't remember what I ordered, does that tell you anything? Everyone speaks to the decor - not an Ikea near Springfield so locals are impressed with cheap, modern Swedish furniture. Amazing service and great tasting food! Ordered tofu Pad Thai, Drunken Noodle, & Seafood Sizzle. Drunken Noodle & Seafood Sizzle were extremely fresh and so much flavor. Pad Thai was good to, but not as great as other two. Ordered medium-high spice and it was perfect. Great COVID precautions. Great staff as well- thank you for a great dinner experience! We came in and checked out the food. I am Thai myself and I want to say the foods weren't bad but they were not authentic at all. We got drunken noodles and the food came out very strange looking. Drunken noodles are supposed to be stir-fried type of noodles not some sort of deep fried noodles with spicy gravy on top. read more

Really good food. My favorite is the Mango Pineapple dish, but I have not had anything that I didn't enjoy. They are even willing to make substitutions (unbreaded chicken vs. breaded.) The prices are reasonable and the portions are a good size. The staff is friendly (even if there are occasional "language" barriers.) My family LOVES this restaurant. read more

I loooove fried dumplings and these were awesome. The dipping sauce had a little heat to it which was a pleasant surprise. For my main dish I went with the classic fried rice. We were just passing through and weren't feeling fast food and we saw this place. We were so glad we stopped! The place was very clean, the food was fresh and delicious! Also good prices and big portions. Great dinner stop after being in the car all day. I had the beef Pho noodle soup and the broth was very tasty. I've been here many times and it's typically a different experience each time. My first time there a couple years ago they forgot our order but due to the excitement over this place I went back and I'm glad I did. The food is usually pretty good, the Bo Luc Lac is my favorite, good enough that my friends all get that when they go now. They have a small selection of beers as well, plus lunch specials. The service is typically slow so if you're in a rush I wouldn't go there, but they're friendly and the food is typically worth the wait. Would definitely be 4 stars if the service was faster. read more

The appetizers were good, but the entrées were not so good. The pad thai had no crushed peanuts and no crushed red pepper. The noodles were more like fettuccine noodles and the sauce taste like chicken noodle soup broth. no thai flavors. read more

Honestly there is no way I can give this restaurant a good review. It is a Chinese restaurant pretending to be Thai. I've been to Thai restaurants, I like Thai food - this wasn't even close! And when I asked for Thai sweet and sour chicken - I was told, 'only Chinese- for gosh sakes. The Pad Thai noodles were a very poor substitute. Unfortunately it also appears that the cook dropped the salt shaker in the pot. The only good thing that I can say is that it is good to know that this is a restaurant to avoid! I realize that some gave them 4-5 stars but I would suggest that they may have had Thai employees at that time - this is no longer the case - and asking about Thai sauces were met with a 'deer in the headlight' look. read more

First visit!! Wife & I stopped in for a lunch and were both really glad we did! She had curried rice and i had basil chicken. Clean place-nice tables or booth if you prefer. We shared an order of potstickers, 3 fried and 3 steamed. Both ways are excellent. The lunch size order comes with an egg roll also-- so after your fill you likely will have enough for a go box. Basil chicken is always a favorite of mine, mushrooms, ground chicken, green peppers, a couple small sliced of jalapeño, (i pick these out and nibble on them through the meal- cuz i don't like too much heat in one bite). All on bed of fried rice. Truly a delight in every mouthful. Price for all this and a glass of iced tea was $23 and change! I will definitely be back soon! read more

I picked up carry out. The place was clean and people were nice. I don't think this is a Thai place. It seems to be cross of Chinese with some Thai dishes. Pretty sure the other reviews do not know what good quality food tastes and feels like. This place serves "spongy white meat chicken". Chicken should not have rebound reponse to pressure and appear fiberless. Although their food supplier is probably selling it to them as white meat but they should still check the quality regardless. Husband and I went there for dinner the other night. We asked for water and they had black particles in the water so we asked again and got the same stuff in our water. The waitress told us they needed to clean their filter out. A different waiter took our order. I had the beef with the rice and salad with the egg on top; asked for it to be well done or over hard. I asked 3 times to re-cook the egg because it was runny. No one seemed to listen. The original waitress came back and said sorry but by the time she did we were done eating. The beef had pieces of what looked like coarse hair mixed in with the meat. I was so disappointed that we got our check and left. I don't think we will be coming back again which is a shame because we use to all the time. Their crab rangoon was good. read more

Every dish I have had here is exceptional. Spicy Basil, Singapore Vermicelli, Lo Mein, Udon Noodle, General Tso's, Vegetable Stir Fry and much more. The lunch menu is unbeatable. Along with a ton of variety and huge portions you also get an egg roll and soup for an affordable price. The food is always fresh.
