A sweet little gem hidden in the Midwest. Mama Chan's staff were amazingly sweet and absolutely took care of our every need. Mama Chan herself even came out to greet us and shoot the breeze with us! It was awesome! The appetizers were good but make sure you try the two sauces that come with them. The homemade sweet and sour sauce, and sweet chili sauce were some of the best sauces I've ever had. Never had pad Thai before but it's not my cup of tea, but that isn't a knock against them, it's just not for me. The sweet and sour chicken and beef and broccoli were definitely my favorites and they didn't disappoint. If your tired of the same Chinese food in Decatur, then I would definitely recommend making the short 15 minute trip to Moweaqua and visiting mama Chan's! If not for the food, at least for the great customer service.

We came from out of town for lunch and saw decent reviews -- but BEWARE because good reviews are before COVID. We sat and the older lady immediately brought 4 waters to the table and walked away. We looked at the menus and she returned to take our order and warned us the prices are NOT accurate. I asked her by how much, and she said it's up by $3 because inflation (the entrees were already priced at $10.95 for chicken and $12.95 for shrimp)-- so add $3 to that. You'd assume the produce was fresh and decent portion sizes. What was ordered: 2 red curries (shrimp), and 1 shrimp fried rice. She walks to the kitchen and all we hear are the sounds of a microwave door being opened, buttons pressed, and ringing once food was ready. 5-10 mins later, all our meals were out. This was by far the nastiest Thai food ever. Portions sizes were 1 scoop of white rice and a small bowl for the curry. 4 pieces of shrimp with tail on it. Curry tasted like sugar water. Fried rice was cold in the middle and sweet in flavor. High salt content for sure. She comes around and asks if we needed more rice -- here I assumed she realized she gave VERY LITTLE amount of rice and came to her senses. The bill comes around totaled to $60+. She charged $4 for the extra white rice, $4 for the waters, and $31+ for the curries, $15+ for the fried rice. BEWARE AND TURN AWAY. I had her drop $4 from the bill because of how she never asked if we wanted waters, and never explained the rice was being charged as extra. She was extremely rude and pushy during this whole experience and was just honestly annoying to deal with. Do not come here. Oh and there was hair in the food.

The food was made from fresh ingredients and very good. Customer service was fine…read more We will continue to eat here when we are back in Effingham.

Which was the Thai fish cake and vinaigrette sauce with chili onion, and sugar salt cucumber cilantro and onion. It had a good flavor. I also ordered a beef pad see ewe. Definitely not a traditional style. So heads up. The noodles were thin rice noodles and the vegetables are broccoli and cauliflower the heat was just right for me. seasoning was different but not bad just different from how I had it in the past from other places. I wish the waiting area could become more tables but I know it adds a lot more money and hands to make that happen. Something really neat about the restaurant is it's BYOB (Bring your own booze)! I got the Bume Noodle Soup dry. They offer wet and dry noodle soups- wet with the broth and dry with no broth. It tasted great! I do think the broth would've added more flavor though. I held off the lime but did add the crushed peanuts to the mix. The peanuts were a great touch and addition of flavor/texture. I did also later try the noodles with some peanut sauce and that was also nice to dip every now and then. The soup also came with huge wontons! Service was great as well, they are super hardworking in there.
