The process was a little confusing at first, but our waiter was fantastic--she walked us through the buffet line, explained everything clearly, and made sure we knew what to do. You start by selecting your ingredients, seasonings, and sauces, then hand your bowl to one of the cooks before returning to your table. You hand the bowl to the chef and then go back to your seat. The chef cooks the food on an enormous round grill. Then they bring your food out steaming hot. The perfect meal. It is a happy and pleasant atmosphere. The staff seem to be treated well. They know all the regulars. I wanted sushi so I ordered a yellowtail scallion roll and a sexy lady roll. Hands down, this is the best noodle restaurant I have visited in Springfield, Illinois. The other day my son and I stopped in and wasn't impressed with the meal with so many people in line and the bowls was overcrowding the end to cook which made our food taste different from times when they can enjoy cooking the meals than a rush! The cooks finish it off for you and the server delivers it to you. The food was all fresh and the buffet area was clean and well stocked with lots of options. I've been seeing this place every time I went by Walmart and decided to try it today. I was confused at first but our waitress really helped by explaining how it all worked. Basically it's a hibachi place where you pick out your own / make your own plate from scratch then hand it to them to make for you. Trust me, it was an amazing experience! The restaurant was cool temped and had a pleasant atmosphere without any foul odor. I was often distracted by flies but it was inevitable as the entrance door was often opened every now and then. The price of the meal was so affordable and the taste of the meal was top notch. In my opinion, yummy bowl is super underrated. I've been to many of these build-your-own-bowl restaurants in different cities. This one is atypical in some ways. They have a smaller selection of fruits and vegetables and a larger selection of meats. Also, instead of using a small separate bowl for meat or an indicator of which meat you'd like the chef to add, they let people pile as much meat as they want in the large bowl. I suppose that's good for people who want to consume large quantities of meat, but it drives the price up for others. I'd prefer that it were a few dollars less expensive, with a normal-sized meat portion. Also, it would be nice if they had hotness ratings for the sauces. read more

The food is good and you get to pick exactly what you want down to the sauce they cook it in. The place was packed because it's so good. The server was prompt and we had no issues. This place could be a good date spot or a family place, it really just depends on how you want to play it. Pro tip: One the top of the piece of paper they give you which instructs the cooks to give you either white or fried rice, put "rice on the side" there. That way you can eat your rice separate and it won't get flooded with the juices. Pile as much as you can into the top of the bowl, if it hits the tray, they toss it. If you go back for a second bowl, that's a second meal. So, pack as much as you can into that bowl before it's cooked. read more
