Happy family with a war-bar sauce! Yum
    Tim C.

One of the older restaurants in Taylorville, this is my favorite Chinese restaurant. Lunch specials are filling and quite inexpensive. Located just off the main highway through town, it's a must eat. Nothing fancy, but very special.

Crab Rangoon, Sizzling War-bar Shimp w/ white rice and big pot of hot tea.

My favorite place to stop for lunch when I'm in Taylorville! This is a great family ran restaurant with yummy food! Quick and friendly service. And, I'm never let down by the sizzling war-bar shrimp and crab Rangoon. And, my meals not complete without a pot of hot tea.

The restaurant advertises that it is open until 7:30, but wouldn't serve us when we arrived at 7:10.

This place stop dine in during COVID and stop cooking food for a while. Their bakery did remain open. They recently reopen. I really wish I liked the dim sum food that we had this past new year day. However that was not the case. The building itself was also super cold. Maybe we went here too early. There was no hot water in the women restroom when I was last there. There was only about two server when we went here. It took forever to get most of our party water to drink. The tea did come after ten minutes of sitting but the water took about 45 minutes or so. Being here with kids, yea has too much caffeine for them so they waited a long time for water. It took about twenty plus minutes to get our check. The food was not what it used to be.

Their door says delivery through chowbus though I'm not familiar. We ordered a whole roasted duck for $24 (TIP: ask for extra sauce), a few dim sum items & a couple sweet bakeries. Overall, fair traditional Chinese food, friendly cashier, outer appearance showed some aging but clean interior (bakery side) and has protective glass to protect their employees.

I've been a regular at Cate Zone Chinese Café for a long time and usually go once or twice a month…read more I always order the crispy fish and mala tofu, and up until recently, I loved this place enough to justify a 30 minute drive. Unfortunately, my most recent visit completely changed that. I went on Sunday, 11/23, the weekend before Thanksgiving. I worked from 6-3 that day and placed my usual order online around 1:00-1:30 pm for ASAP pickup so I could grab it before their lunch break. I even left work early to make it there. When I arrived around 2:40 pm, I was told my order wouldn't be ready until 5:00 pm and that I would have to come back. I showed them my order confirmation, which originally showed a pickup time around 2:50 pm. Even when I refreshed the website, it showed 3:30 pm, still nowhere near 5:00. The cashier, a young man, was dismissive and didn't seem to care at all that my time had been wasted or that the information given online didn't match what I was being told in person. This was extremely frustrating and honestly unacceptable, especially for a place I've been loyal to for so long. I wasted my time, left work early for nothing, and left without food. As much as I've loved Cate Zone in the past, this experience was enough to make me question whether I'll be returning.

There is a limited selection of bakery items, but do not sleep on them. There's take away cheung fun, incredibly bouncy glutinous rice pork dumplings (鹹水蓋), egg tarts, pineapple buns, and other mainstays growing up Chinese. There are many Americanized Chinese items on the menu, but the best deal on the menu is the rice dishes (if you're a meat eater). Packed full to the brim, you'll get steam rice, sautéed fresh bok choy, and your choices of main entree (I always get either the ginger chicken 蔥油雞飯 or the 3 meat trio of duck, roast pork (think lechon), and the ginger chicken). I can eat off that plate for 2 or more meals. So good, worth a try if you haven't!

I'd say this place is authentic as the owner was born and raised in Hong Kong. I enjoyed eating the congee dipped with fried bread sticks. I also had some siu mai as well. I felt like the food might be a bit too expensive, but that's the US for you. There werent much bakery to begin with, especially in the late afternoon so I think it's best to come in the mornings if I wasn't working. I wanted to have some pineapple bun, but it isn't available. I feel like the place would've been much better if there was dine-in, but I guess it hasn't been by the looks of it + reviews mentioning it. Overall, I do recommend eating here if you want some authentic Cantonese food.

Update 2/20/26…read more Ordered Wan Fu to go last night for the first time since it changed ownership. The interior has been refreshed and looks fine for dine in. Nothing fancy but perfectly decent. We ordered crab rangoon, hibachi fried rice with beef, vegetable lo mein (no bean sprouts), wonton in chili sauce, and Pai Huang Gua (cucumber salad) - spicy. Online ordering was easy but the way they communicated pickup time was unfortunate. There was a canned "it will probably be 20-25 min unless we're busy" message at the beginning of the ordering process, but there was no other indication of how long it would take until I got a text to say "come now". I only live about 5 - 8 min away so it wasn't a big deal, but it was strange and could be difficult if you live further and need to know when to start driving. Food was packed nicely and service was good at pickup. Portions were not whopping but there was enough for everyone to get full on their meal. Hibachi rice tasted exactly like hibachi rice, so that was perfect. Beef in the rice was perfectly fine. Vegetable lo mein was chock full of delicious fresh veggies. That order was completely finished, no extra, so that portion was a little lacking. Crab rangoon were only ok. Filling was good but the wrapper was a little tough and didn't taste too good. Spicy wontons had a really nice meat filling and sauce, but they used the same wrapper as the rangoon (I assume) so they were very thick and tough. The cucumber salad was very fresh and nice and spicy. I would have liked to order an entree, but my kids wanted more appetizers this time and I didn't want tons of leftovers. Prices are a little on the higher side but I don't think they are any different than other comparable restaurants.
