88 China was my "go to" for Chinese food, they were quick with delivery, have some of the best food, and great to work with. The St. Charles location has their own delivery system they mark as "preferred". I placed an order at 6:14 pm tonight. An hour later I called to check on my order and they stated they didn't know when it would be delivered. It arrived at 7:50. The food was good, as usual, but not hot. My take-away from tonight's experience? Order from one of the platforms that do delivery or just order pick-up. Still recommend them for some great food, just opt for pickup. read more

I came in to pick up a to go order and was greeted within five minutes. The restaurant was not the cleanest. There was Papa John's Pizza on the tables in empty sauces that were scored on the tables. However, I believe they were busy with lunch rush as everyone was in the back cooking. The order was made fresh and ready within 15 minutes after I had arrived. I just wish they gave better timing as I was told my order would be ready within 5 minutes when I ordered but when I arrived I was told 15 more minutes so just a heads up would've been nice. UPDATE: June, 2024-- 88 has been one of our two favorite Chinese eateries in the area, and we order frequently. We usually pick up and bring home. But something has significantly changed recently, and the food is now awful. New management? Now cooks? Different recipes? No idfe4a, but we will not be ordering from them again. The food was so much worse. We'll be sticking with out other favorite Chinese place and looking for a new secondary one. Our food was ordered long before they closed and it looks and tastes like it was sitting all day. My husbands cashews were literally burnt from being under heat all day. No chicken in the chicken fried rice and the fortune cookies, I spit out they were so old! My orange chicken was so breaded I couldn't find the white meat I paid extra for. What I've ordered here has all tasted fine, just not great or excellent. The dishes I've had have tasted okay, but a bit bland. The restaurant seems very clean, in fact I recently noticed their restaurant inspection score was a 100. Pretty large menu as most Chinese places have. Staff is friendly and if you live nearby and need a meal fast, they are usually quick in fulfilling call in/pickup orders. They also deliver, but I've not used that service. read more

For years I've gotten mullet touched up at "Great Clips", and also drank many band-aid flavored margaritas at "Tequila Mexican Restaurant"..... but never entered the door in between. I've always walked past and barely even looked in the window, mostly because of the old faded, dated and gross looking photos of the menu items that seem to have taken on a greenish hue. Until a day last week o decided that wasn't going to judge the place on appearance, and give them a chance. My wife and I were a lot like Lewis & Clark in the way we explored that ugly menu. Slowly reading each item out loud and wincing as we looked at the corresponding photos. Each high eyebrows, teeth showing grimace and a quick inhale... followed with an "ewww". During our decision making time, I noticed a family eating... along with a couple delivery guys waiting for "go time". I swear one of those delivery guys was playing Pokémon Go on his phone. Mind you, he appeared to be in the age range of 37-69... not sure... and this was in the Fall of 2019. I mean, I don't like to judge people... but I will if they give me a reason. I looked at what the family was eating and they hadn't called for an ambulance yet, so that was at least a yellow light... proceed with caution. I eventually and reluctantly ordered something simple. Beef fried rice w/ no veggies and an order of crab Rangoon. Pretty safe bet. My wife ordered the shrimp lo mein. I was like "you sure about that shrimp?". Her response was wordless, but her face said "f*** it. Let's do this." I will say that in this day and age when asking take out places for simple condiments is like asking for their own personal wallet, 88 China has it all out there for you to take as much as you want. We loaded up on soy sauce, hot mustard, red pepper, and chop sticks we'll never use but I took 3 sets anyway just because. The young girl working the counter was very sweet and helpful. High marks for her. Our order was ready and handed to us with a smile. We got home in about 1 minute. We live close. The order of crab rangoon was huge and delicious. Not too much in the middle and crispy like the dickens. Just way way I like it. My beef fried rice was okaaaaay. The meat was tougher than Charles Bronson, but pretty much what you'd expect from cheaper Chinese take out. My wife's shrimp lo mein meal last about 2 bites before she said "nuh uh" and walked it to the trash can. She tapped out prett teeee quick. I had the hockey game on and just put my head down and muscles through it. I got the large order, but made it about halfway before getting getting to the point I felt like a tick ready to pop. The Blues won by the way. Up to this point I'd say the food and service was what we expected. My ordered was decent. My wife's order was f'n gross, but that's what she gets for ordering shrimp on the first trip. She know better and I hope she felt much shame when she later made herself a grilled cheese. Little did I know, someone put Jackie Chan eggs in my food. Those eggs incubated and hatched inside me at about 3:24 AM, and it felt like Jackie Chan started punching and kicking his way out the backdoor. After a 25 minute exorcism, I made it back to bed, laid back down next to my beautiful wife... still a little sweaty and catching my breath. Really good American Chinese. We are picky when it comes to our Chinese, pretty rare that we come across a restaurant that we would recommend in this category, but this one makes the grade. For those of you that prefer savory crab rangoon, that is the style here. A bit small, but crab was noticeably present and the flavor was spot on. I wish they had the sweeter red sauce to accompany the rangoon, but can't have it all. The Moo Shu excelled and pork pot stickers meat seasoning was some of the best I've had in a long time. We will include Thai one in our rotation. Had someone else not been closed on Memorial Day, we likely would have never tried it - glad we did. read more

Solid Chinese food choice. Picked this place based on the Yelp reviews having just moved to the area. The crab Rangoon actually had quite a bit of filling. Steaming dumplings and sauce were good. And the Moo Goo Gi Pan was flavorful and not lacking in meat. The large is definitely enough for 2 more meals at least. It has been rather difficult to find a good sit-down Chinese place in STL at a reasonable price. Today we decided on 88 China, as we were in the area for a church event and were looking for a bite before it started. First impression wasn't the greatest. When we walked in, there was a dirty plate on the first table and one of the workers was on their phone. Not very friendly service, either. The workers were somewhat rude, short with us, and made very little effort to engage us in conversation at a time when no other customers were there. My salt and pepper chicken was very good, as was the orange chicken. The lot mein noodles tasted a bit off though. The food definitely was the best aspect of our dining experience. Fixing the service and cleanliness issues can be improved easily with a bit more attention to detail, and I hope that is done! :) read more

The order was made simple because they have the entire counter setup as a brightly refined menu to choose from when you are ready . The crab Rangoon's are rich and delicious - come with red sauce to dip if you choose. The shrimp lomein was equally tasty -- not too salty! Hot and sour soup is a varying taste among people who eat it . But I enjoy a hearty soup with some kick to it so I was not at all disappointed on this visit. I was impressed by their prices, and we both choose different dinner specials. For $7-8 you get an egg roll, fried rice, and a smaller portion of one of their main selections. The price and speed of the preparation were great. The actual food was not very great. I ordered sesame chicken and my boyfriend got the general tsos, and neither were really edible. The chicken was breaded way to much and over fried, which I didn't even know was possible. The food was all soggy, and really unappetizing. I just moved to St. Charles and was craving Chinese. I stopped in and ordered cashew chicken and hot and sour soup. The food was ready in about 6 minutes, which was very quick. I got home and realized I left my cell phone at one of the tables. When I got back there, the very nice lady working there had placed it behind the counter for me. When I got back home and ate, I was very happy with my order. It was not overly salty like at some places. The portions were so large, I could only eat half. Tried 88 china tonight on a recommendation from a friend. The prices are on par with every other Chinese restaurant and the service was quick and friendly. I had a take out order and all the food was correct and the establishment was clean. The food was okay. We ordered crab Rangoon, hot and sour soup, shrimp fried rice, pork fried rice, an egg roll and hot braised chicken. The good: the hot and sour soup was good. I would gladly order it again. I appreciate the serving sizes offered. The fried rice (both pork and shrimp) were good. The egg roll was quite good as well. The okay: the crab Rangoon. They weren't bad but definitely not the best I've had. I'll stick with the egg rolls as they are much better. The not so good: the hot braised chicken. I don't want to call it bad but it wasn't very good. One piece was just plain over cooked and bad. The rest was fine but the sauce was kind of bland and they seemed over breaded. Overall I'm happy with the experience and will most definitely go back to try other offerings, just not the hot braised chicken. Would recommend. read more
