Number 1 also has St. Paul sandwiches: The local inspiration made with chop suey and vegetables on white bread. (It may be an acquired taste--or not at all acquired--for some.) My beef fried rice wasn't exceptional but was acceptable. The restaurant didn't skimp on meat. An egg roll could have used more seasoning but was perfectly cooked with a crisp fried crust. During COVID-19 Number 1 has a table barring entrance. There's just enough space for one person to step inside to order or pick up a phoned-in meal. I was looking for a new place for Chinese food delivery, because our usual place changed their recipe for my favorite dish. We had recently received a menu in the mail for No. 1 Chinese Restaurant, so we decided to give them a try. When the food finally arrived, there was an issue with part of the order. I called, and the woman who answered was rude and barely spoke English, so the phone conversation was absolutely painful. I'm not sure she ever did understand what I was trying to tell her, so I finally just reordered the missing item, and drove there to pick it up. One of the items I had ordered was Chicken with Cashew Nuts, and I typed into the special instructions section "Spicy, and with extra cashews, please." I have ordered this dish with these instructions from numerous different Chinese restaurants over the years, with no issues, ever. This dish had almost NO cashews, and it was not the least bit spicy. After I finished it and was putting the leftovers away, I found that they had put little packets of cayenne pepper in the bag, so you basically have to season it yourself. Every other Chinese restaurant I've ever been to spices the food as it is being cooked. I didn't notice that I was supposed to season it myself until I was finished with it. None of the food was particularly good. The fried rice had an odd aftertaste, and the chicken seemed old and overcooked to the point of being tough. When all was said and done, I spent nearly $70 for food that was not properly prepared and was barely edible. We will not go back. read more

This was our first time ordering and we will never order from them again. The food was horrible and they didn't get the order right. I asked for no vegetables and that's all it was, barely any meat in the dish. I also ordered egg rolls with the combo plate and they sent me disgusting rangoons. I'm sorry but St. Louis has the worst crab rangoons I've ever had. Who has ever heard of sweet rangoons. But anyway, the fried rice was dry with no favor and the Mongolian beef was horrible. I placed an order yesterday. Asked for chicken fried rice, no white onion, peas or carrots and hot braised chicken wings. The rice was very under cooked and hard and had white onions in it. This place sucks! I had an order delivered to my job, and it was a joke! I ordered Shrimp Chow Mein, and what I got didn't even have noodles. I called and the lady just kept telling me that Chow Mein doesn't come with noodles! This lady was lying to my face (so to speak)! I told her that if I came in and proved that Chow Mein comes with NOODLES, then she should give me a refund. Of course, she didn't comply. She was very rude, and dismissive. My family and I have been getting food from here for a few years now. It's your typical Americanized Chinese food super salty with some spicy options. We have been pleased with the food. However, that has not been the case with our most recent visit. My family and I ordered food today. We go to pick up the order, come back, and find out that an order was missing. My parents call the place asking for the order. The people said no can do. No refund. No meal. They pretty much just took the money as a tip. My mom was without lunch. Well this place is awesome. My dad (who lives out of town) insists he gets No. 1 delivered whenever he's at my house. I love this place! Finally Chinese food my husband and I can agree on .... Seriously that's a huge deal in our house! Plus they offer delivery to our area, about 1.5-2 miles away, and they even told me they deliver out to practically Wentzville. Clearly they know they're good and won't stand in the way of my exhausted nightly cravings by making me put on normal clothes and driving up there after a 12 hour work day. We will be back .... On 11/3/2020, I placed an order to No. 1 Chinese Restaurant at 3:10 p.m. via the "Beyond Menu" app. It took me approximately 14 minutes to arrive to pick up my order. When I arrived, the counter person was on the telephone attempting to run a credit card for an order, several times, which eventually went through. She then asked me what my order was, and after confirming, she turned around and walked away. I asked if my order was ready, and she said "no, I have to make the chicken wings". I then explained that I would not be able to wait any longer, as I placed the order at a particular time, and unfortunately, she had issues with her customer on the telephone. I asked her to just reverse the charges on my credit card. At that time, another female, mid-20's, came out from the back area, asking me "what's the big deal?" And then, she proceeded to sit down, and start typing on her cell phone. I was completely shocked, and sat down in the chair, choosing to wait for the food to finish. The other young girl finished the order, being completely polite, and apologized for the delay. I let her know that it was necessary to apologize. However, I did address the other female. I let her know that her behavior was unacceptable, and unprofessional, and that it just cost your business a good customer. She then asked me "why do you have to be so rude, what's the big deal?" Again, I let her know that her behavior is "what the big deal is". Disrespectful behavior and bullying the elderly doesn't seem like an example of what I would want a person to be representing my business. If I was her mother or father, I would be absolutely ashamed and embarrassed about this behavior. read more

We have ordered here for years, until now! We placed an order at 830 pm. Were told it would be an hour, after an hour and a half no food so we called, they were closed. Food never came. Called for a refund next morning and had to wait for call back after call back. They said their driver came and delivered...they did not as proof by my ring doorbell and there was no "young girl and boy" here to take the delivery as they said. If they delivered it somewhere it was the wrong house and i never signed any receipt! Their driver then proceeded to contact us directly by phone to call us liars and harass us before hanging up on us. I contacted them back to advise of their drivers actions and AGAIN ask for my refund of $25 for food I did not get! Still waiting on my refund...I have never been treated this way by a company. I am honestly amazed at how awful they behaved and how its so difficult to give someone a refund for food they paid for that you never gave them!!! read more
