Though the food here may not be the most authentic versions that you'll find - the size of the menu here is impressive and the price point is just right where you can feel free to try different things at prices that are a few dollars cheaper than other neighboring restaurants. The Pad Thai here was a bit sweet, and a lot wetter than expected though it came with a good amount of shrimp and a generous helping of noodles. The flavors were overall enjoyable, especially with the fresh squeezed lime though it would have been better with more peanut and an overall less saucy preparation. The pho was not the most flavorful, with noodles that felt slightly undercooked and beef that wasn't too fatty. However, the soup was still nice and hot and and the flavor was overall still enjoyable. Overall, filling and at a good price -- with fast and friendly service in a fairly spacious restaurant. Could be the best Thai restaurant in Springfield, so if you think this isn't that good, that's a bummer. It has most of the classics. Thai Basil is located on the northeast side of town. Find it in a strip mall. Yes that's correct, this is strip mall Thai for those wondering. Besides the food is the piss poor atmosphere. It's lame. There's the sticky cold tables. Almost no music or ambience. No wonder most people get carryout. Of course that's what we did too. Food was better than it looked. We got the Pad Thai. It was about $10 for a good amount. This came with eggs, which we left off. It also came with a protein choice. We got tofu. It was kind of dry. This was because it was all overcooked. Even so it had good spice in it. That's the best we can say. For sure good Thai is too hard to get around here. It's not available here but this does have a few good things about it. Thai Basil had a big menu full of a variety of Asian food that is familiar and unfamiliar, pleasing a wide range of taste buds. I had the pho and my husband had the shrimp pad Thai. The pho tasted devine since I hadn't had any in a while. The ingredients were fresh and the basil was aromatic. The shrimp pad Thai was sweet and the shrimp were huge. The servers were very nice and friendly. We were there on a Sunday evening and it wasn't very crowded, but it should be. Honestly I wouldnt return back to get the food. I take out for my lunch when I can and honestly Im pregnant at the moment too. Usually they say senses are heightened but I have been fortunate to not have that issue with smell. The egg roll was honestly the best thing I could've gotten. The rice smelled like wet dog, no flavor and the broccoli by itself smelled like smelly fish (tried not to let the whole thing go to waste). The pad thai was okay, not very flavorful and chicken was bland alone. The soup that comes with the lunch meal is honestly just cabbage water so I wouldnt consider that soup in my mind. The restaurant is very clean in side and there was not much of a wait when I went. For two people the total was only $33. The quality and quantity are not in accordance with the price totally. I stopped at Springfield for a conference and tried another 4-star rated Thai restaurant on the first day. It's good. So I decided to try this Thai restaurant, though both of them are owned by Chinese. I ordered the same things such as Bo Luc Lac. The quantity was just a little and the meat was not juicy. But the price was as high as $12. For the Pad Thai, I never had this kind of simplified pad thai ever in the US. I give them 5 stars (which is rare for me to do), and recommend them if authentic and fresh Thai food is what you're looking for. That's despite the fact I didn't like the food. Why? Because on top of being friendly, I have friends from Thailand and eat with them a lot. So I can assure you it's 100% authentic flavors served here which is what you're most likely wanting from a Thai restaurant. Which, as silly as it sounds, is why I personally didn't like the taste, lol. I was hoping it was more tamed like Chinese food.
