I came here while on a Christmas Trip to Big Sky. I still think about this place. I don't know what all the bad reviews are about so I'd like to address my experience. People say their service is slow: However I experienced the complete opposite. We were using the bus system and let the staff know that we only had about 30 minutes to dine before the bus left. They were extremely accommodating. Within 5 minutes our food came out. Food: The food is amazing. Don't know whether or not it is "authentic" but it is great. We got the fried dumplings and it was super good. I also HIGHLY recommend the Pad Woon Sen. My boyfriend got another dish but we both loved the Pad Woon Sen by far. I will say I added chicken to my dish and wish they added a bit more as it was pretty scarce. Anyway, I have tried to find other Thai places that compare, but have been out of luck. Also, this place had HUGE portions. I eat a lot (like a pound of meat in one sitting) and this was insanely filling. One dish is good enough for two people. Price: *I am from Los Angeles so this may be skewed*. People are saying this place is expensive. I couldn't disagree more. I believe our check was around 50 dollars for 2 dishes, an appetizer, and beer. Not only that but the dishes were huge. This place has great value. I totally recommend this place. Totally messed up our pick up order. I mean, half the order is not what matches the receipt. Especially the Thai eggplant basil..... if they got it right, there was only 1 piece of eggplant. Which makes me think they didn't. Instead it was full of beef and onions. Green curry was super salty... almost inedible. Everything else was good though. Average Thai. Slow Service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is very small, very casual.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They do not take reservations, but you can be added to a waitlist when you arrive. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Note that groups of more than 5 will be divided and seated separately.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They also charge 20% gratuity for groups of 5+ Service was extremely slow and haphazard. We had 2 tables for 6 people (3 and 3) - One Table received their appetizers and then one of their meals before the second table even received an Appetizer. The second table received two of their meals before their appetizer, with the third meal taking another 20 minutes. The meals came out staggered, with 30 minutes between the first and last person receiving their meal. The server never returned, kitchen staff brought out the food, and the server had to be flagged down twice for water refills. The food did come out very hot and fresh, and the portions were large. Use caution with the spice level, as a 2 was quite spicy for someone with a fairly high tolerance. They had the option to add local bison as your protein, which was unique. And they offer a blue crab fried rice, however, not enough crabmeat/flavor to justify the upcharge or "specialty". We were disappointed that they do not have Thai Tea on the menu! We went here on a Sunday afternoon in June, so not busy at all. We get there at 1:50 and greeted with "you just made it".. handwritten sign on the door said they are closing at 2:30 (website and door hours say open until 8:00). We ordered Tiger Bombs for an appetizer (really good! But a lot of cream cheese); Thai basil crispy boneless wings (were not spicy), and Thai pad noodles with chicken. Portions were huge so price although high was good for amount. All delicious!! Also had huckleberry frozen marg, which was decent but had ice chunks. Our server was ok, but didn't ask if we needed anything and had to be flagged down for order to be placed (even though only 4 other people were in there). The food and service were absolutely outstanding! This charming restaurant is perfectly located in the town center and has such a warm, inviting atmosphere. We ordered the dumplings, spicy basil with tofu, and green curry chicken, and every single dish was exceptional--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Thai Basil Big Sky was one of the most blatantly unethical dining experiences I have ever had. We walked in with a party of 6. They immediately told us we could not sit together because of "how their seating works," so they split us into separate sections. Fine. Annoying, but fine. What is not fine is that they still charged us the automatic large party gratuity for 6 people even though we were separated at different tables. That alone is misleading. To make it worse, because they never clearly told us they had already added gratuity, several of us tipped an additional 20% on top of the automatic charge. That is not an honest mistake. That is a system. Next, the menu very clearly states: add protein for $3, double protein for $10. Simple, right? Wrong. I ordered my dish with double protein and they charged me $13 extra: $3 plus $10. And the amount of meat they actually put in the dish did not even come close to justifying that insane upcharge. You do not get "double" anything. You just get charged almost 70 percent more for average protein. It gets better. One person at our table asked for fried egg. Just an egg. They charged him $8, no warning by the way. When I politely pointed out that at the very least they should remove the extra $3 and simply charge the $10 "double protein" fee that their own menu advertises, the server told me this is how "the owner says we have to do it." I explained that it is misleading, that it lacks integrity, and that it is absolutely false advertising on the menu. Her response was basically a shrug and "there is nothing we can do." She literally dared me to write a review. So here it is. This place is not just overpriced. It is operating on practices that feel deliberately unclear and incredibly unfair to the customer. From the forced gratuity on a split party to the absurd upcharges that do not match the menu or the portions, everything about this experience screamed "we will squeeze every extra dollar out of you and hide it in the fine print." I left feeling so disgusted by the way they conduct business that I might as well have had food poisoning. My stomach turned more from their ethics than from their food. If you choose to eat here, know exactly what you are walking into. Check every line on your bill. Question every "extra." And if you care about honesty, transparency, and basic respect for customers, I strongly recommend taking your money somewhere else. read more

Awful- The ambiance was dirty, unhygienic, and unmaintained. I could see significant dirt and debris on the floors and walls at the entrance of the kitchen. The kitchen staff would walk outside, sit on their phones, and showed poor attitudes. They washed their utensils at the table next to us with a wet rag. The food was not only inauthentic, but genuinely bad. The pad thai we ordered was clear in color and tasted like straight lemon juice. The yellow curry was watery and the fried rice was drenched in oil. We asked for 3/5 spice, and there was no spice at all. The food was unapologetically mediocre, especially at its price. It is shocking to me that this restaurant is still in business in such a coveted location. As an avid thai food lover, stay away. read more

The menu had a lot of variety and options. Service was good, could be better. I don't know if it's because we showed up on a Wednesday night, but the food seems like it had been cooked a week ago. The noodles were dry, the fried tofu was like chewing on a sponge, and everything was very salty. I'm surprised it was so busy when the food is like this. I'm Thai, need to throw that out there first. I'm staying up here and saw a Thai place in a tiny resort town, ofcourse I had to go check it out. Thai approved. I ordered the vegetable Pad Thai noodles, and I was extremely disappointed. The noodles were completely bland, and even though I specifically ordered vegetables, the dish had random pieces of chicken in it. The food came out in five minutes, which should have been my first red flag, because it tasted rushed and low quality. On top of that, it was overpriced for such a bland, disappointing meal. We visit Thai Basil in Bozeman and food is good, prices are fair and charges are transparent. This location in Big Sky was the opposite other than the food being good enough. Upon entering it looks like a place I wouldn't choose to eat but we needed to get something quickly and thought this would work. Not so! There were 5 of us. First meal was delivered to the table in about 10-15 minutes from ordering, meal two about 5-8 minutes later and so on until meal 5 which took 35-40 minutes and the rest of us were either done or mostly done eating when the last meal arrived at the table. We asked where this meal was and told "it's almost done." We were the only ones in the restaurant at this point (mid-afternooon) and I assume all takeout orders took priority over our 5 meals. That is not okay. The timing of meals was so bad that I thought a small adjustment to our bill would be in order. But, then the bill arrived and the double protein was billed as triple protein. This is dishonest. You'll see someone else in a review mention this dishonest, unclear pricing as well and was exactly what we experienced. We did ask the server to speak to the manager as this triple pricing was NOT disclosed and they took $20 off our bill. We did tip on the pricing before the adjustment but management is sorely lacking and honesty is not a priority. Do take out if you must eat Thai or go somewhere else. I have eaten here a few times. The food is good, service is good, and the portions are huge. It is $$$ for Thai food, but that is the nature of Big Sky. I found this using the Gluten Free finder app, and what made this really special for me is that they offered 7 different kinds of gluten free cake for dessert. As one with a gluten allergy and a sweet tooth, it's really hard to find good GF cake, never mind needing to make a decision as to what flavor. This was awesome! My companion and I were in town skiing and wanted to give this place a shot. We walked over to the restaurant and we're immediately seated at the last available table right before the early dinner rush. While we were in the restaurant, it does an incredible takeout business, which is a testament to the flavor. We ordered appetizers of chicken satay, which had a wonderful peanut sauce. My companion ordered the pad Thai and I ordered the Tom kha soup. The pad Thai was very flavorful as was the Tom Kha. Be forewarned, however, that you better arrive with an appetite. The Tom Kha was delicious but the serving was very large. The Tom Kha had a lovely tart flavor without too much fish sauce and a very generous helping of mushrooms and chicken. The restaurant provided a container to bring half of it home. The pad Thai was traditional and also very good but also was a very large serving. Is it as expensive as other reviewers have noted? Yes - no question about it. Probably twice what we would normally pay for decent Thai food. But it's a resort town, so not completely unexpected. The ambiance is also as non existent as others have noted, though there are some paintings by a local artist on the wall. But the food was fabulous. I like to order drunken noodles because I have high expectations. My husband doesn't like ordering it because we are always disappointed with a sloppy, flavorful brown gravy style sauce. The drunken noodle dish here was great and now he knows why I want it! The Thai fried rice was also excellent! The sweet and sour was not as good as the other dishes. As always, we were on the look out for gluten free options and Thai Basil is extremely gluten sensitive! Even all their desserts were GF - yes, every. Single. one. Super expensive. Menu items like Pad Thai are $19, with no "protein". So with chicken at $3, plus tax and tip, you're talking about a $30 Pad Thai. They have Tom Kha soup, but the bowl is HUGE and is $18, again with no protein. Imagine going to a Thai place and getting a $8 cup of chicken Tom Kha and a $16 pad thai, plus tax and tip is about $30. For that here, it's more like $55, without a drink or dessert. The food itself was just fine, but not great. There were fruit flies or baby flies (definitely not gnats) the entire time, at least a dozen or more. The ambiance is zero, an empty quiet restaurant. The orange chicken came out within 3-5 minutes, and definitely was not hot and fresh. Clearly the chicken had been sitting for a bit and they put boiling hot orange sauce on it. The waiter was great! No complaints at all about the service. But it deserves the solid 3 rating because it's just mediocre and definitely overpriced, with gigantic portions that some may say make up for the price - but if you're traveling like we are, it didn't work well for us. read more
