Best place to eat in Big Sky. We had the Best French onion soup a pasta dish and a white Boudreaux wine. All were amazing.

Loved the food and service! Started with the French onion soup, which a couple of my friends recommended ordering. Worth the hype. The calamari salad with an Asian style micro green salad was delicious. My husband ordered the crab cake, which was great with a perfect aïoli sauce. Entrees: after having steak the night before for dinner, I wasn't really in the mood for meat, but they offered a variety. I was surprised there was no local fish feature. Only Hawaiian Ahi and Alaskan halibut. My husband and I shared the halibut for our entrée, which isn't necessarily my favorite fish, but it was a great dish and cooked nicely. The sauce was on point. We had a wonderful lunch here. We were visiting for the first time from Florida and our Airbnb host recommended this restaurant. Out for a special occasion and very disappointed. Called ahead 30 min before our reservation to let them know we were going to be 15 min late and asked if that was ok. We were told no problem. Upon arrival the hostess told us that it was a problem and an hour wouldn't be enough to serve us dinner. She tried to dismiss us and sit us in the bar upon which we told her we would like our reserved table and would order drinks and apps and be out of there in less than an hour. She was so incredibly rude and begrudgingly sat us and tossed the menus at us. We ordered the calamari and it was so bad I couldn't eat it. Very over cooked and thinly cut it was more of a salad than calamari. We decided no more food was needed based on what we saw delivered to other tables. We paid $100 for 2 drinks and calamari and tipped our waiter well as he was great. Overpriced for bad food. We tried to give our feedback about the hostess service and how rude she was and the poor food quality to the owner/chef and he cussed us out and physically threatened and pushed my husband. Then told us he would call the sheriff. Seems like unhinged behavior. I've read other comments of them threatening to call the sheriff I guess we should have waited around to file with them but I didn't want such a simple thing to ruin our evening. I have never experienced such unprofessional behavior. Besides the lack of attention to quality and service I am shocked at the lack of etiquette and ability to handle negative feedback from a business owner. This place won't last. read more

Never had a bad experience here. This was our third time here and the food and service was wonderful. They accommodated our group of 8 on a Tuesday night and we all had a great time. Halibut was the special and it was delicious! Other meal choices were the Tenderloin (Hubby had that and it was really good.) and the Bison pasta dish, lobster mac-n-cheese and the French onion soup - all with positive reviews! We saved room for desserts and they were all tasty too: crème brûlée, mud pie and I tried the strawberry rhubarb dessert - yum! Kenzie was our server and she was fabulous. A local favorite and an absolute must dinner reservation for your trip to Big Sky! My first experience at olive Bs absolutely exquisite. The service was efficient, quick, informative, and delightful! Our server, Brent was on top of everything! He gave every table hours, the same exact quality of service. He did not miss a beat! Olive Bs Has an outstanding kitchen, the team is dynamic and fluid. It is very clear the best chef in Big Sky is in this kitchen when you watch the back of the house, and even more apparent when you taste the food. We started with a very fresh garden salad with the house vinaigrette, the flavor was outstanding, and the freshness was impeccable. We also had the richest onion soup I've ever had in my life. These ingredients were so delightful, and the cheese was so generous and rich. For our entrées, we had a medium, rare tenderloin, and the ginger glazed duck. Both dishes were so beautiful and so different. This is real home cooked meals with that beautiful Bistro flare. We finished with the Apple pie bread pudding, and it was outstanding. Homemade caramel sauce and made in vanilla ice cream! There wasn't one part of this meal that lacked in flavor or authenticity. And after eating all of this food, we were not uncomfortably full. The salad was pitifully small with hardly any dressing on it. The elk medallions with mashed potatoes and asparagus were delicious! The two of us were looking pretty scruffy after a fly fishing lesson, but we were greeted with a big smile and seated right away at lunchtime. We needed something warm after wading in the freezing cold Gallatin in dreary 40 degree weather for a few hours and ordered both soups: the tomato curry soup of the day, as well as the French onion soup. The tomato curry was delicious: creamy, tomato-y and just the right amount of curry (4/5). The French onion soup was beautifully presented, tons of gooey cheese, croutons, onions and rich broth, but was heavy on the salt (3/5). We told Brent, our server, we were just going to share everything and he took it upon himself to split our entree: the game bolognaise, also nicely presented. Came here for lunch right at opening time so were lucky to get a nice outside table. The service was very friendly, she checked on us often and our food came out quickly. Everyone enjoyed the food. The most adult children's menu I've ever seen which included salmon and pasta with bison meat sauce! I had the Rueben sandwich which was pretty good, the meat was not stringy or fatty at all which can really ruin a Rueben. The place filled up quickly after opening so get there early! read more

Make a Reservation ASAP! We got super lucky .... someone cancelled so we were able to slide into a 6:15pm res. Great ambiance and vibe. Upscale casual ... not stuffy nor pretentious. Kinda cozy, rustic but modern with lighting that makes everyone look pretty. Service was On Point! We wanted for nothing! We felt valued and our server was genuine, professional and friendly while giving us plenty of space to savor our meal. The Food was Fantastic! I rarely order Elk in restaurants because it's so often not prepared correctly or it's mushy. (I'm spoiled in that I grew up on wild Elk hunted by our friends who would share with us. It always had firm, solid texture (not mealy) and full of flavor.) Olive B's elk is all that and more. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. I barely needed my knife to cut it. It was tender, great flavor and not oversauced. (Meaning they didn't drown it in sauce.) The husband had the Bison Steak. We knew Bison would be super lean so it did require a knife to cut through it. The temperature preparation was perfect, but it did require more chewing than the elk. It had great flavor .... meatier than regular beef... or rather the meat flavor was more pronounced / not as mellow as beef. They have a lovely wine list and we were able to find a nice red to go with our meal. Net Net... if I ever find myself headed back to Big Sky, my first call is going to be to make a res at Olive B's. read more

While the food was good, we had a bad service experience. One member of our group brought 2 bottles of wine he wanted to share, including one with grapes from his own vineyard. Our waiter told us the corkage fee was $50, we asked "Is that for both bottles?", and he said "Yes". The bill came with a $100 corkage fee, we explained to our waiter his comment about it being $50 for both, requested he correct it, he refused and sent his manager. The manager also wouldn't change the fee and when we pushed back, she threatened to call the sheriff. (We also mentioned to her that that we had to return a dish due to a hair in it which they did replace, albeit forgetting the vegtables.) Is that how one treats customers? How about at least acknowledging that they were wrong and taking some responsibility? Again, good food, but unfortunate that due to this miscommunication our group of 6 spent the rest of our trip making jokes about corkage fees. read more

when a server takes back 1/2 eaten bisque, and fields a direct complaint about a horrible piece of elk that should never haven been plated, someone should have visited our table. fwiw, I've returned food 3 times, lifetime. Shocked that one of those 3 was your once fine establishment. The bisque, was definitely in a bowl long enough to have oxidized the top into darker orange, and such practice turned the lobster into particle board. The elk medallions, which were spartan portions in the first place, had one of the three medallions so paper thin that cooking it medium rare would be impossible, should never ever have been plated. Wait staff noticed the half eaten bisque, and said nothing (nor did I as it isn't my speed to do so). Then, when she came by to inquire during the main I kist had to say something. Showed her that pathetic piece of elk, and she didn't even really seem to get what was wrong with it. I then did mention the horrible bisque. I didn't ask for anything comped as I never really would, but it should have been offered, or at least try to comp a drink or desert. Franky, I don't go out for a meal to get something comped, but really?? Fwiw, I tried to comment on their site directly but their contact form doesn't actually work.... read more

Ok, hands down my favorite lunch we've had in the past two weeks of being in Big Sky! Olive B's has always been my parents favorite place to dine while in town. This is the first time I've come WITH my kids and it was great! I probably wouldn't bring them when it's super busy so we don't bother people but we came for a late lunch. Anyways, EVERYONE loved their lunch today. I had the potato leek soup and BLT. My boys had the Mac and cheese and steak and fries, my husband had the tuna sandwich without cheese, my mom had a chopped salad annnnnd their special of the day- meatloaf sandwich. We all loved our dishes and all the drinks as well. It was one of those meals that we all said just felt good. Nothing felt greasy or heavy and the flavors were all sooo good. Lots of recommendations to eat here. We couldn't get a reservation online so we went early and lucked out on getting a table in the bar. Call out to Rick for excellent service. We started with the calamari app with ginger Slaw. Absolutely delicious. I got the Beef tenderloin and hubby got the Elk medallions (see pics). Both cooked perfectly and melted in mouth. Cheese. Creme. Brûlée. I would have preferred a more profound blue cheese flavor, but I like bold flavors. Theres is definitely more mild. For entrees, I suggest the elk. Where else are you going to have elk? It's tender, delicious, & perfectly prepared. I also recommend the classic pairing of the French onion soup and the spinach salad. Everything we had was delicious! The service was outstanding. They serve bread with herbed butter before the meal, and the chef sent out a caprese salad skewer as a treat as well! The mushroom gratinee appetizer was excellent. My party of 4 had the crab cakes, French Onion soup, wild game bolognese, veal parmesan and lobster Mac and cheese....not ONE complaint or criticism. The lobster mac is like none I've had before. It's not super thick and rich, it's just right. The addition of green peas adds a little sweetness to cut the richness of the cheese. I loved it! The desserts were good, but out of the 4 we tried (banana bread pudding, mud pie, creme brûlée, skillet cookie) the Mud Pie was absolutely #1! The only complaint I had is in regards to the atmosphere. It got really loud in there when the tables were all being used. Also the bathrooms really needed to be checked and cleaned every so often. Honestly, one of my favorite food spots ever and I used to live right outside Boston (11+ years ago - ha). Food is always amazing and the service wonderful! From their specials to their fish tacos to their Mushrooms Gratinee, everything is delicious and perfectly cooked! I have never received a bad dish from this amazing, little restaurant. Get their Summer Sangria!! You'll thank me later. Please bear in mind that nearly every food establishment in Big Sky is currently struggling due to lack of employees (thanks rising housing costs) so be patient and make reservations far in advance! I ordered a steak 'medium-rare' & added "more on the bloody side, please" - came out medium... I also asked for the peppercorn sauce on the side - it was all over the plate & steak... server simply balked the chef & nothing was offered to remedy the situation. A mild shrug of the shoulders and a weak "sorry about that". Absolutely mind-boggling! In some States they'd lock you up for that calibre of service. Lastly, I'm there to enjoy the company I'm in. I don't need a 10minute backstory on your failed heavy metal career whilst we are trying to eat, having a phone shoved in your face showing your last local shindig with 18 people in attendance. A truly baffling experience, a shame as this place has heavily under-delivered in its true potential. read more

My husband and I ate at Olive B's Bistro this past week. We had a delightful experience! The ambiance was cozy, it was actually not too large of a restaurant which I liked. The food was all presented very beautifully. My husband had the duck and said it was one of the best cooked ducks he's had in a long time. I had a salad and French onion soup which paired very well together. I also asked for a side of mashed potatoes - you can never go wrong with that. Besides the food, we had a server, I believe his name was Brett, who was absolutely wonderful. He added so much charm and delight to our meal. He was interesting to talk to and was very helpful in explaining the menu and what to expect from the meals that we were interested in. Highly recommend Olive B's! I had a nice meal at Olive B's. New to the area, I was excited to try after hearing my girlfriend's family's reviews and reading through the menu. I started my dinner with a French onion soup, which hit the spot on an evening in which we got back into the car to find it 4° out. The heavy top layer of cheese melted on top was delicious. For an entree, I tried elk for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised. It was a very lean meat and a little game-y in flavor, but it was served with a nice huckleberry demi-glaze sauce. It also came with truffle mashed potatoes and asparagus. The mashed potatoes were good but not standout, and asparagus is my least favorite vegetable, so I didn't eat on that side of the plate. Looking back, I wish I would've subbed out for another vegetable. The service was really friendly and quick, though they were relatively slow when we dined for our early dinner. This was my first visit to Big Sky, and although I don't know many dinner options around the town, I would certainly eat at Olive B's again. read more

I can't get enough of this place! Anytime we are in Big Sky, Olive B's is a must. Every experience here has been incredible and remembered. We love the Huckleberry Martini, Orange Sunshine Martini and Bee's Knees, plus their extensive wine list. They usually have specials every night, which I typically order. The Halibut special is fantastic, as well as their Eggplant or Veal Parmesan and Wild Game Bolognese. You also can't go wrong with their French Onion Soup! We always indulge in their desserts too, which always hit the spot. Overall this restaurant is a Big Sky staple. Our experience was okay. I ordered a sunset martini and they gave it to me in a regular cup not a martini glasses. This started my night off wrong. I wish they cleaned a martini cup for me or told me they were out of cups because I would have ordered something different. The bread and butter were probably the best part of the meal. I got a chopped salad and calamari. They put a salad on top of the calamari which just made it soggy so it wasn't good. My fiancé got the pasta with red sauce, it was not good. Don't get pasta at this type of restaurant. The waitress asked if we wanted more bread, we aid yes and never got it. Overall I wouldn't go back but maybe we went on an off night. She could tell we weren't happy so she comps us our drinks. They did take 30 minutes to come out to us and we sat next to the bar so I think that is fair. read more
