Stopped in on a Sunday and didn't expect to see lunch specials being honored on a weekend, but they had several options to choose from that consisted of entree and a coconut soup or salad for around $8.00. The soup was great and the pad Thai I ordered was tasty and a large enough portion that I had leftovers. The restaurant was clean and service was fast and courteous. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because I actually came in for sushi and the sushi chef was overseas and wouldn't be back for a couple of weeks, therefore no sushi. read more

This was our first visit to Thai 55. We dined in the evening arriving about 6:30pm. The environment was very inviting. It was sparkling clean. We were seated immediately. We were given menus and we were given adequate time to carefully choose. I chose Pad See Ew. It was very tasty. The portion was excellent. My husband had a catfish specialty that had an awesome ginger sauce. We shared a perfectly prepared Creme Brûlée. We will be returning. Our bill with one soda was about $35. We will return. This restaurant is clean, and the server has always been friendly. We always finish our meals and enjoy the food. We generally get take out, and it's ready in ~10 minutes. I give 4/5 stars as they do not allow substitutions. For example, they will not allow you substitute broccoli for bell peppers. Pretty disappointed in my meals lately. I typically really like the food here but whenever I order takeout they seem unable to get it right. If one person orders something medium or spicy ALL meals end up being spicy. Tonight I was unable to eat my meal it was so spicy. One person ordered their meal spicy in our group and two other people ordered mild meals: a mild salad and mild pad thai and we were unable to tolerate the spice. I was really looking forward to this after reading other reviews, but my chicken pad thai did not have much flavor or spice. I actually ordered pad thai from another place after having a few bites of this. Unfortunately, that other pad thai had even less flavor, so I ended up eating this one anyways. This location used to be a KFC, then the Tropicana, then seven sisters, then a caribbean place...all closed within a year! But now there is a Thai place. Had lunch and Dinner here and the food is excellent. Now I suddenly want them to survive because it is so close to my work and I finally can have good lunch at a good price. The dinner portion was not much more than the lunch so I will have lunch there more often ( 8.00 versus the 12.00 for dinner ). What a delight that the food and service is good!. What a delight. The lunch menu has different selection, costs from $8-12 depending on what you order. According to the menu, lunch special will come with the choice of coconut soup or Thai Salad. I ordered my favorite Pad Thai and coconut soup as my choice for take out. Then the waitress told me the soup and salad is only for dine-in but you pay the same price. I was ok with the fact that I do not get the soup. Overall, the Pad Thai was OK, nothing special than the other restaurant around the area. The portion is not as big as the other reviews mentioned. After I gave this new place a try, I believe I will go back to the other restaurant down the road by Food Lion. Better taste and more selection for lunch. read more

Tried this place for the first time tonight and got a take-away. The staff member who took the order was helpful and polite; I requested the Basil Roll without pork and they were willing to do this for me. The food is very very good. I had the Basil Roll with a delicious peanut-hoisin dipping sauce and a Vegetable Drunken Noodles. The entree was good, slightly lacking in sauce but with a huge array of vegetables. My husband loved his Green Curry Beef and Crab Angels (little fried pockets of crab and cream cheese). We're glad to find a good Thai place close to home and will definitely be back! read more

Very Disappointed - Not authentic Thai Food! So I decided to try Thai 55 seeing as though it's fairly new and I pass it several times a week. I'm not big on fast food and also picky about where I eat but after reading some of the reviews I decided to take a chance. Well I'm sorry that I did because the Pad Thai I ordered was terrible! It definitely was not the real deal.....the authentic and rich tasting Thai Food I've had at some of the nicer restaurants. The noodles were dry and almost tasteless, they skimmed on the scallions (there may have been 2 or 3), and while placing my order at the establishment I specifically asked if the bean sprouts were cooked, to which they replied "yes they are". It wasn't until I got home and opened the box only to discover NO BEAN SPROUTS! Again, the food was dry and I had to add my own sauces to beef up the taste and eliminate the dryness. In my opinion (and I know Pad Thai), the food tasted like something I'd had at the mall before which I guess is edible if you like that stuff. I did call Thai 55 and spoke with someone (manager not in) and told her what happened. I guess cat got her tongue because she really didn't say much or even offer to do anything.....surprised she did not ask for my name. Anyway, I tried it, didn't like it, now I know and I definitely won't be going back! Different strokes for different folks I guess. I'm all set! read more

My husband and I ate here on Sunday for lunch. The food was excellent! I had basil rolls and he had fried egg rolls. My basil rolls were good and the peanut sauce was very good. My husband's fried egg rolls were excellent as was the sauce. The service was quick and friendly with discussions of football as the tv was on in the restaurant. We both had excellent pad thai from a lunch menu. Who has a lunch menu on Sunday? Happily they do. The portions were large and the prices were small -under 8 dollars- even with coconut soup or salad! We will go back again and be more adventurous next time. We had everything spiced to level 3 which worked for us. We may do level 2 next time and add more if needed. Great place! Very clean and nice inside. They have some specials at lunch and drink specials on Tuesday and Thursday nights.I would have given it 5 stars but the outside of the building is not at all impressive however the food was. read more

Well My wife was excited to go eat at Thai 55, based on a few friends on next door. We went and ordered take out so that we could watch UNC Duke game. This is where things went down hill. My wife ordered the pineapple fried rice with shrimp and I ordered the spicy cashew meal. We got home and looked at my dish and realized that there was no cashew in it. I called back and the maitre d told me don't worry about it next time they'll get it together, which I thought was strange. I told her that I would rather have when I ordered and that I was on my way back up to the restaurant. When I got there the maitre d became irritated and unaccommodating she kept saying how our food is good. To which I responded this is not what I ordered and I would like to have another dish, refund, or rain check. To make matters worse her customer service went out the door and she just kept saying that our food is good to which I replied I would like to speak with the manager. She then told me the owner what's not there and that it was nothing that she could do. I asked for my refund so that I could leave and she got angry and tossed my refund on the counter and begin to talk loud saying her food was good to which I replied but you're customer service is poor. I'm very disappointed in the behavior of the maitre d at Thai 55 and I doubt that I will go back again read more

Great food, although not as spicy as some other Thai places. I'll say it was surprisingly good given the location. Service was good considering it was a Sunday evening and I can imagine the place finds it hard to judge crowds given its location. This should be a hit for the RTP lunch crowd. read more

Tried this place with a couple of colleagues. Restaurant is clean and smaller. We all ordered usual Thai food we order at other restaurants. I would say this is on par with Thai Cafe or Thai Noodle quality, just smaller portions (at least for lunch). Everything was quite flavorful and servers worked with each other to ensure everyone was taken care of. The major con for this is the parking lot size and getting out of the parking lot and trying to head anywhere but south (towards Cary) on Hwy 55. I had to knock off a star because the pricing is on par with restaurants that offer larger portions. read more

I have been here three times since this place has opened. So far I have tried the Drunken Noodles, Panang Curry, and Chicken noodle bowl. Everything has been delicious. I especially loved how flavorful the curries were. I ordered the chicken noodle bowl during one of my lunch breaks. It had noodles, grilled chicken, and yellow curry. It came out fast and the service was great! Couldn't ask for anything more. I will be coming back again to try something new! read more

This was one of my regular week night spots to eat for some time now but after tonight I will never be going back. So here is my storry, while working in Durham myself and some friends had dinner here one night we ordered food for 4 we had one friend that did not speek english so we translated for him the waiter acted very impatient we were happy with the food but not completely satisfied with the staff took a long time to get our food the watier also spilled water all over me and my friends phone but no harm, so we finished dinner paid. We returned a week later (same groop) started to order after placing the first order the same waiter looked at our friend that did not speek english and stated and I quote " HE CAN NOT EAT HERE if he wants to order I will have to make it to go" The 3 of us were so stunned I laughed if off and asked him "your kidding right" TO WITCH HE REPLIED "NO HE DOSE NOT TIP WELL" NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I EVERE HAD A EXPERIENCE LIKE THIS this was so strang I don't think I could have maid this up. I hope others will read this and help in boycotting this restront. read more

So hard to believe all those good reviews! We went because Greg Cox, the food critic from Raleigh N&O, had reviewed fairly positively. Now I wonder about his judgement. Other than large portion size, which for other people seems more important than the quality, the food was nothing special. I had the pad thai with chicken. The chicken pieces were far overcooked, very dry and the overall dish lacked flavor. There were too few scallions and very little egg. My wife's dish was even more disappointing. She had the duck dinner special. The duck pieces were topped with a huge pile of broccoli that was boring to eat. My wife rarely complains about anything but she left duck pieces behind because they were extremely fatty. For some reason, her plate arrived first and I waited another 10 minutes for mine. We dislike chemical scents very much. The waitress had left her cleaning cloth on the next table. The cleaning solution was so strongly scented that we had to ask her remove it. She did not offer an apology. read more
