One of the movers damaged a brand new formal dining chair. We were told by the owner that rather than pay for a new one he would fix that existing chair. His crew took the chair when they finished our move on December 22, 2021. I began following up on April 27, 2022 with multiple text messages, screenshots of what I was told by the owner, and a phone call. Belated review, but we had a GREAT move with Texas State Movers on 6/24. We relocated from Austin to Dallas and they gave us a very competitive price and were terrific. We did pack ourselves but they arrived morning of our move on time and knew exactly how to wrap and pack each of our large items and furniture. George contracted to move my Mother in Law across the Country to Pennsylvania. The move was done with a Uhaul, a couch was forgotten and damage to multiple pieces of furniture. George promised mom he would personally drive the missing couch to her but has been radio silence since then. George does not respond to phone calls or text messages. Lack of communication and professionalism. I went to their website and clicked on the 'Request A Quote' link. My email and phone # were included. I put in my info and also asked the question if clothes could be left in the drawers for the move. They responded via email, which is perfectly fine. But the email had no introduction, who I was talking to and no contact info. They only answered my drawer question but did NOT include the rate or whether they were available for my move date. I emailed back and asked what the rate was and their reply was only, "125/3". What does that mean exactly??? It's totally open to interpretation. I asked if it mean $125 for three hours and if there were any additional charges. The only response was, " $125 an hour for three men". They didn't answer my other question or even try to get further details for me or make any attempt for any type of professional conversation going. All of this could have been answered in one email. Trying to get basic details and information from them took way more effort than it should have. Personally, I think there would have been some surprise charges and was worried if they would have shown up at all. My friends and family and I have used a lot of movers in the last 5 years but I have to say....Texas State Movers is BY FAR the best in the metroplex. They were available without much notice (I called on a Monday, they could move me on that Thursday). They were totally affordable! They were FAST. They were friendly. They never slowed down. They were so polite and personable. I am truly impressed and will never use another moving company again! And I'm going to recommend them to everyone I know. The move itself went fine, but we discovered a stool was broken. It really wasn't a big deal, but I have been trying to get in touch with them for weeks now. They have blocked my calls and will not respond to any of my messages. The customer service has been awful. Thankfully, it was just a stool, but if it had been a bigger ticket item it would have been so much worse. I would not recommend them. read more

After contacting other movers and providing a comprehensive list of my possessions I chose George because he was the only one who would give me an actual dollar estimate of around $850,00. I booked him two months in advance. When his guys showed up the day of the move in a small truck I immediately told them wasn't going to be big enough. They assured me it would be alright, but after a couple of hours they had to call for help. George came over with his daughter and finished packing and even said himself "They couldn't pack this little apartment into that truck?" He was nice and talkative and even talked to me about joining his GYM. When he reached my new apartment and saw I had a partner his entire demeanor changed. He acted as if he couldn't wait to get out and tried to leave the bed un assembled and leave outdoor plants inside the apartment. His guys tracked grease in on brand new carpeting and he tried to convince me it was just mud and to wait until it dried to vacuum it. He said they weren't paying attention to where they were walking because they were being extra careful with my white leather sectional. They put a gouge in the front of my dresser and left black marks on a new green vinyl MCM chair. Then he charged over $400.00 more than his original estimate because he said I had more furniture than I had told him. Even though he had a list ahead of time for everything I had, he then said it was because he had to use two trucks and pull another team to finish the job. A few days later when I moved the sectional to put it together I saw where they'd scrapped a corner of the leather off so I called him to report it and sent him a photo. I reminded him he told me they were being extra careful with it and that was his excuse for them tracking grease in. It cost me $243.00 to get the sofa repaired. He told me it was because they were distracted because my "EFF"ing boyfriend was puking in the "GD" sink. (Yes, he did get a little sick from the move) and then he ended the call by calling me a "EFF"ing Faggot. Is this the kind of person you want to deal with in 2017? read more

I am not one to typically write a negative review, but I have never received such poor service from a company. We hired Texas State Movers to move our belongings out of our home into a temporary storage facility for 2 months while our new home was being finished. We hired another moving company to move us out of the storage and into our new home and we were shocked at the state of our belongings as they were coming out of storage. Several pieces of furniture (chairs, side tables, coffee table, rugs) are all damaged beyond repair. Our mattress was also stored incorrectly and is now ruined. Our bed and kitchen table arrived without the hardware necessary to assemble it so those pieces are unusable until I get hardware from the manufacturers. As if the thousand of dollars in damage were not bad enough, we have called several times to discuss with the owner and have received no call back. This is the most illegitimate company I've ever dealt with and I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

This is the second time I have used this movers and had fantastic experiences both times. The movers are prompt, very organized, and efficient. they wrap all of the furniture and have wardrobe boxes for clothes and shoes. They easily disassemble and reassemble furniture and will rearrange a room if you do not like where you originally told them to put the furniture. Also, the scheduling was easy and when I had to reschedule, they easily accommodated me. You also cannot beat the price! read more

DO NOT HIRE!!! I posted this earlier today on our Neighborhood Google Group and have already heard of multiple terrible experiences others have had with this moving company and many Park Cities Realtors are adding them to their Do Not Hire lists. I don't know if Texas State Movers does much business in other parts of the Park Cities, but I would feel very negligent if I didn't share this info with everyone possible...especially after hearing stories even worse than my own. I've waited a few months to post about the horrible experience we had using Texas State Movers for the move from our Wentwood home because I have been so emotional about the experience. We were given very little time to get out of our home after it sold, so our regular mover was booked. I found many glowing recommendations for Texas State Movers here on the Google group. Of course we worked with George and he estimated it would take 5 days to move us. The agreement was that about 50% of the boxes would go straight into storage while we await the completion of our home on Caruth....in other words....I have yet to even see what condition at least half of our belongings are in, because that's all still in storage. The first couple of days things went ok, although the movers only worked partial days the first 3 days, which I thought was odd. Suddenly, by day 4, they realized they were far behind and started really moving quickly. This led to horrible packing methods as well as bad decisions that caused furniture items to get broken. The crews changed daily, so when I would ask about the whereabouts of an item, the reply would be, "Not sure, So and So packed that room and he's not here today". The worst part was how they packed the boxes....everything was just thrown in huge boxes...my children's cards, games, etc., were dumped in boxes with all pieces, cards, etc., coming out of their boxes to create a huge box of random, damaged parts (see pics below). A large collection of American Girl dolls and large accessories (that had all original parts) are broken, pieces missing, most still yet to be found. It was also really awesome that they used our custom-made bedding (and various Burberry items and sweaters) as bubble wrap for packing things, twisting silk and cashmere coverlets around lamps, etc. The part that really upset me the most was when ! found a chunk of a gilded tri-fold vanity mirror that had been the inspiration for my daughter's room in the new house. I had paid $1,500 for this mirror over 20 years ago and I had carefully protected it for years in anticipation of giving it to my daughter. All I have ever found was that one chunk....I never managed to find the rest of the mirror. As for what was done about the broken items? Basically nothing.....It cost $800 to make a new glass top to replace the one they broke, and George handled having the new one made and said he would pay for it. When it came time to pay George for the entire job, he had added an extra $800 on to our bill for the glass, and an extra $1,000 for the job taking longer than he expected!!! My husband paid in full because he was on an important call when George arrived 2 hours before their planned meeting time and my husband just wanted him out of our house. The reason the glass top broke was because one of the movers leaned it up against the wall on a slick floor....I saw this and couldn't even get the words out of my mouth fast enough to say no, before it immediately hit the floor. Yes, I know these are only "things" but you might not realize how violated it makes you feel until it happens to you. Anyone who knows me, knows I have nice things and I take care of my belongings. I would suggest that if you own ANYTHING that cost more than $10 for, do NOT hire Texas State Movers! They don't bid the job properly as far as time and cost, they break things and charge you for replacement, they lose things, they have poor packing practices, they use your nice clothing and bedding as packing material and they really just don't seem to care at all about their customer. I don't post often on Yelp, but I want to save others from what our family has been through. read more

We hired Texas state movers for our local move. One of their guy/owner came to our house and gave us a fixed quote. On the days of move, his crew had no idea of the quote and told us that they will be paid per hr. When I told them about the previous quote, they agreed on that but started work in a rushed way and did not care if anything will get damaged in their hurry. They did not properly secure our stuff in the truck. While downloading the stuff at the other place. We had a sofa with broken legs. They put bad scratches on the wood. They did not properly assembled our bed and when we tried to sit on that, it fell on the floor. One of our TV never worked after the move. I asked them multiple times to fix the stuff. They promised that their guy will come and fix the issues but no one ever showed up. I will never recommend them to anyone for their lack of care of the other's property and responsiveness to fix the damaged stuff. read more

I wish I had read a horrible review before I had hired this company. The movers put deep scratches into my two most expensive pieces of furniture, scratched my brand new hardwood floors, put a dent in my wall, and they were two hours late delivering my furniture because they decided to get lunch without letting anyone know. Those were my complaints before they broke a water pipe in my wall, causing $35,000 of damage throughout my home. The day after the move I met the owner, George. He was unprofessional, disrespectful, and aggressive. He had the audacity to tell me I was stupid for putting in high end wood floors, so any damage that was caused by his men was my fault. TL;DR: This move was a nightmare that cost me my insurance deductible, two of my most expensive pieces of furniture, plus the quoted cost of the move. Although their prices may seem competitive, the damage they do make them much more expensive. It's not worth the risk. read more

I hate to rain on everyone's parade, but my experience was not as glowing as many of the others, in part because George had a new packer. On the plus side, the pricing is reasonable, and George will work with your schedule, and even arrange storage, if necessary. George is a very personable man, and I have great respect for him. George does a phenomenal job of wrapping/packing china and crystal items. Any other fragile items need to be pointed out, as I had a chalk sculpture thrown into the bottom of a box, with nothing but a sheet of paper to protect it. I also had wooden sculptures from Sweden that had to be pointed out as fragile items, as they were also originally cast into a box rather than "packed.". My recommendation to anyone is to make sure ALL of your fragile and collectible items are on the dining room table so they will be treated as china. Another HUGE plus is the guys doing the moving. These are great guys, polite, helpful and I'd love to have any one of them over for family dinner. They are that nice! They worked hard, were extremely solicitious of our preferences for placement, etc. and always listened to input. A couple of the guys even helped me with a difficult rug placement. The movers were wonderful. On the downside, whoever packed my office was a disaster! He ripped the cardboard box off of a 34 disk set of training CD's, and then threw the CD's willy-nilly into the top of a box. When I opened the box, several of the CD's were not even in their cases, but floating around loose in the box. There was NO apparent packing of these items. I no longer have a "boxed set" as the box was destroyed. Now I have to figure out how to store 34 disks that were in their original packaging, for the past 3 moves! Another problem is that the edging on an oriental rug was ripped. Someone simply grabbed a very heavy rug by the edges, rather than roll it up and transport it correctly, and the binding separated from the rug. Another repair... Finally, I have a mahogony Queen Anne end table that had the top edge scrapped off on one side, a chip in the same edge, and a gouge on one of the Queen Anne legs. My overall review is that if you have a lot of "stuff", or collectibles, or expensive posessions, spend more on your movers. Your mahogony and orientals will thank you. In the alternative, you NEED TO BE THERE to watch who is packing what, this is especially true if you have a large number of items to be packed. I am certain that there was no intentional negligence, only limited training in probably only one case. George is a fine man, but when there are 6 people in your house at a time, he cannot watch everyone. read more

They are pleasant and punctual but if you value your possessions - use someone else. The day of the move I saw George, the owner, moving a white couch and leaving dark marks from his hands. When I said something, he got a wet paper towel and rubbed at the mark, when I said there were others his reply was "Well, the whole couch needs to be cleaned". What does that mean? The equivalent of "oh, well"? It has been three days since they moved me and so far I've discovered: Of three tables with glass tops, only one has the top. The others have been broken, I imagine but I wasn't told this. A tray table has the handle broken. It was placed where it should be but when I moved the table it fell off. A brass lamp has the bottom badly bent. One of my desk drawers won't close. All of these things I found on my own, no one admitted they had broken or damaged anything. As I said, it is day three so who knows what else I will find. Instead of the three men I was told to expect, five showed up and George said it was because he was training two of them. That may be the reason I had so much damage. I used Texas State Movers two years ago and had no problem with breakage. That time they didn't have a big enough truck so had to make two trips from Frisco to Plano which added to the expense. They also left my Christmas tree in a closet so had to go back and get it. This move was only a few miles and I told them I had more furniture than would fit their truck and could they use a bigger one. They didn't and still made two trips but it was close and not a problem. George is very fair about pricing - he didn't charge me for the two men in training and when they took a lunch break he said he wouldn't charge for the time but I can't recommend them. The operation is just too inconsistent. I think you could have the same experience hiring some teenage boys from your neighborhood with a U Haul truck. read more

I have moved with this company twice in three years. They have been great. Both moves were in the summer and I own a LOT of books so there are a LOT of boxes. The guys show up on time and are very pleasant despite having to park the moving van a long way from the elevator. The price is fair and nothing was damaged. George joined the crew of three when it became obvious that the move was going to be more complicated that they anticipated based on the size of the apartment. I'm a researcher type of person, and I use Yelp to gather info before choosing restaurants, attractions, services, etc., but these movers prompted this lurker to actually open an account in order to write a review. We've used both local and national movers a few times over the past 12 years, and never had too much problem, but I have to say that our recent move with these guys was the best experience ever. They were recommended by our realtor, who has also personally used them a few times with no complaints. When you call or leave a message, George, the owner, personally answers or calls you back. He tells you he's been doing this for 25 years, his guys all work full-time for him, he does not use day-laborers. He charges by the hour. He asks questions, gives you an estimate based on # of hours it would take over the phone. He is very polite and patient (I ask a lot of quesitons). At first I was skeptical that he could accurately give me an estimate without coming over, since we had a huge houseful of stuff crammed into a condo, but his quote was by far the lowest I'd gotten and my husband, who also spoke to him, encouraged me to book him before our date was taken by someone else. I'm so glad we did. Not only was George's estimate accurate (took an extra hour, but that was perfectly acceptable), on the day of the move he came himself first to check out what needed to be done, set up his 4 guys, then left them to do their thing. Actually, there were a lot more bonuses. ALL the men were very competent, courteous, efficient, thoughtful (I had most things packed up but the rest they assured me not to worry, they secured what needed to be and took it anyway, and George even offered they could pack my kitchen for me, which I had planned to do myself after the movers finished their job). We also have 2 young boys who were trying to "help" at various times but the movers never seemed annoyed by them, in fact, they were even good with our kids. After a couple hours of labor (we also had a 1000 lb. piano), you'd expect that they'd get a little cranky, but no, they kept the pace, still remaining courteous and polite even though they were obviously tired. The lead guy always checked with us if there were questions about anything, and before the truck left he asked before they go could they do anything more for me (anything more? Wow, it was well past lunchtime and if it were me, I'd want to get out of here and get some well-deserved food, drink, and rest!). He asked the same thing after moving everything into our house, 4 hours later, very sincerely. All in all, everything went very smoothly, they seem to have experience and great training, an efficient system, know how to pack a moving van, have great people skills (which we're not paying them for but a great added bonus anyway), and on top of that, you can't beat their price! read more

George and two strong young guys (from his rugby team) showed up not only on time, but a half hour before the scheduled time as it was a hot summer day. They worked politely and efficiently and had all of my elderly parents' 180 boxes on the truck in about two hours. Considering I had estimated between 80-100 boxes, I was very happy that George fit everything into a very large truck and only charged us a nominal additional fee for the many extra boxes. This was an interstate move from Texas to NC and even though George showed up before we showed up in our car, he was flexible about unloading time, so I didn't feel rushed. I was wowed by the professionalism, and punctuality, and not one thing came broken. They did a great job moving my parents, and I would highly recommend George and his crew. Were rude, complained, and threatened and belittled my widow mother. Would never recommend this company even if they are the lowest quote...they won't be at the end of the day. Will and Chris were my moving men, and I just can't say enough about these excellent young men! They arrived in Emerald Bay in Bullard TX promptly, and immediately began to work. They handled my belongings carefully, wrapping and protecting delicate items. They met me at my apartment in Irving after a brief lunch break, and went right to work. I was amazed at how efficient, helpful, and cheerful they were. I am slightly disabled, so they even helped me with items in my SUV. I thought the charge for the move was extremely reasonable, and I would not hesitate to highly recommend them. Not one item was damaged or lost. If I could give 0 stars I would! Please beware of this company!!!!! They are very unprofessional and have no customer service. I originally called to reserve a day to move but 2 nights before move day I sold almost all of my furniture. I honestly didn't think I would sell it all but I did so we decided not to use the moving company. So I called first thing the morning before move day actually more than a 24 hour notice and George answered. I was polite and very apologetic and told him I would not need his services because my apartment was literally empty and they would have nothing to move. He said oh great my guys have no other jobs for that day we're screwed now we have no work. I said I'm so sorry....and his response was well I'm charging you $175 as a deposit. But we never even talked about a deposit he never mentioned how far in advance you need to call if you need to cancel or anything. He told me that he told others he couldn't move them because of me and my thought is if you're coming at 9am and I have a small apartment and moving a mile down this should not take you ALL day to move. It's not my fault you don't know how to run a business!!!!! So then he hung up on me! So me being me....I called again and I said I'm really sorry but I don't feel that you're being very professional about this and he once again yelled at me told me don't give me that professional shit! You're the one canceling......he said I don't have time to argue with you I have more important people I need to talk to....EXTREMELY RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!! George (the owner) and his moving boys made 3 separate moves for me during July-Aug 2013. The last items were moved on Aug 7th, 2013 from a Plano storage unit to my new home in Allen. On Aug 7th the moving truck drove to Lucas to pick up furniture at my son's house to be delivered to my new home in Allen. On backing into my son's driveway, the driver ran the truck into a brick entrygate, knocking down the gate. I immediately called George, the owner, and advised him of the damage. Later my son emailed George about paying for the damages... George told him that he (my son) should just file a homeowner's claim and get payment via his homeowners insurance ($1400 to obtain matching brick & rebuild gate). My son (for obvious reasons) did not file a homeowners claim... as this was clearly damage to property caused by George's vehicle. To date George has failed and refused to pay costs of rebuilding the gate... and has refused to hand over his vehicle insurance information. Recently, my son was able to contact George's insurance carrier (information he obtained from TxDOT) and has now talked with George's vehicle insurer. The Insurer tells my son that George has not returned several phone calls they (George's insurer) have made to George regarding this claim. The matter is pending. Some other things.. the movers broke the pedestal off a breakfast table. I notified George of this damage & he did (promptly) pick up the table and had it repaired. The repair is not professional (ie.., it is obvious that it has been repaired) but is sufficient to keep the table from falling over. In addn, there were wood furniture pieces that sustained minor damage (scuffing of wood surfaces). To avoid hassle, I chose not to ask George to repair these.. and did not mention these scuffs to George. (For the most part, I was able to cover scuffs with Old English scratch cover.) In spite of the minor damages caused by the move, I would probably have given high marks for quality and professionalism related to this move. However, George's failure to take responsibility for causing damage to the bricked entry gate is UNACCEPTABLE. And it may be unlawful... I do believe that in Texas a driver has a responsibility to provide proof of insurance where he or she has caused vehicular damage. Bottom Line...You may want to think twice before doing business with Texas State Movers ... even at a low price. read more

Great moving company! I moved from Dallas to the Fort Hood area. The truck showed up with a team of clean cut local guys and they immediately got to work. There was no standing around taking smoke breaks like some of the other companies I have used. They wrapped my belongings and there were NO damages. These guys were very friendly and efficient. Just used Texas State to move within Dallas on the recommendation of our realtor. Their prices were competitive to the quotes we received. We did most of the boxing/packing and really needed their help with the furniture. They showed up on time - 2 trucks, 4 guys and jumped into it - worked in the 95+ heat throughout the day to pack up the trucks, then unload. No significant damage - minor nicks and a couple of floor/wall scratches. Great guys - very personable and professional. read more

George Munstedt and his crew at Texas State Movers initially impressed me a great deal when they moved our furniture locally here in Dallas. I was pleased enough to tip the crews well during both pickup and delivery. After delivery of our furniture we found damage to our dining table, dining chairs, guest bed, guest dresser and master bed. I called George who did respond by coming to our home to inspect the damage. He agreed that the damage was unacceptable but explained that the limit of his liability is $0.60 per pound. Based on this, for example, if a 100 lb. piece of furniture is damaged, the maximum that George's insurance will cover is $60. George agreed that amount is not adequate to repair more than the most minor damage. He said it would not be right to give us $180 or so without doing more to resolve the damage. He arranged to pick up the table and have it refinished but made no commitment for the other items. Later I told George that my wife would like to discuss the refinishing of the table with his painter. That is when things quickly went bad. George concluded that dealing with our damage was simply going to take too much time when he is so busy. He mailed a check for $250 and considers the matter to be resolved. He would not return my wife's phone calls. I reached George on 8/27/13 at which time he refused to deal with our damage further. He was pretty blunt that he was done with us. At this time we have considerable damage to furniture that was close to pristine condition before the move and Texas State Movers will not make it right. read more

We asked them to drop off a basically new washer at my daughters who was moving in a few months. Unfortunately, no one was there when they dropped it off because somehow they broke off a thick plastic foot and, come to find out later, they broke off a piece of the motor. After $450 it's still not working right. Of course, the movers didn't have the courage or integrity to let us know they had damaged the washer at the time. Texas State Movers did a great job moving me. I had some unique circumstances that other moving companies were either going to charge me extra to accommodate or wouldn't do it at all. TSM immediately had ideas on how to handle my circumstances without it costing much. They worked non-stop from the second they arrived till everything was off the truck. Texas State movers did an amazing job with our move from Lantana to Propser! They were professional, hard working and quick! They wrapped all of our furniture and did a fantastic job carrying many items up the stairs. They were careful and the walls in our house weren't scratched... The furniture stayed in the same condition as it was before the move! They took apart our baby crib to fit it through a door. I would highly recommend them for your move! We used this service at the end of last year and had a horrible experience. Dealing with movers recently while helping my sister-in-law out reminded me to write a review. Things started out very positively. Our closing date on the house we had just purchased got moved up so we had to find movers last minute. We got a quick response from George and were able to schedule a move within the same week. The day of the move is when things fell apart. The movers were late, did not handle our items with care either at the house we were moving out of or at the house we just purchased. We still have several dents and scratches on door frames and walls from them. We purchased a nice executive desk from the previous home owners and it was left in the office upstairs, which is where my husband would be working from, and the movers threw a bookcase (that my husband's grandfather made, mind you) on top of it which lefts gouges all over the new-to-us desk which was a shame as it was the first desk that we bought that was actually nice and not from Ikea (no offense to those who have Ikea furniture...we have several well-made pieces from them but their desks can be shoddy). My husband attempted to reconcile this with George and he did not offer any compensation saying that they were only responsible for items they physically moved themselves (never mind that the piece of furniture that gouged the desk was something they moved). When it came time to pay them, all I had was a debit card and they gave me grief about this as they apparently only take cash or check, which was never disclosed up front. They wrote my card number down incorrectly and then accused me of not having money to pay them, which was downright insulting. My husband called to reconcile this as well and George threatened to come to my house, where my (at the time) four-month-old child was. It was a terrible experience and not that I plan on moving any time soon but if and when we do we would never consider using this company. read more
