If you're looking for a meal that hits the spot every single time, the Texas Roadhouse on Saw Mill Road

If you're looking for a meal that hits the spot every single time, the Texas Roadhouse on Saw Mill Road is the place to be. I recently stopped in and was reminded why this spot is always buzzing. The Food * The Main Event: My steak was cooked to absolute perfection. You can see the gorgeous char and grill marks in the photo--it was juicy, seasoned just right, and melt-in-the-mouth tender. * The Sides: The sweet potato was a standout--perfectly baked and topped with a generous amount of marshmallow/cinnamon cream. Pair that with a side of fresh steamed broccoli and carrots, and you have a perfectly balanced plate.

We found 2 seats at the bar even though there was over an hour wait list. Our bartender Ashley was great! We loved the Mango Margarita and Sangria Margarita with extra shot! Steaks were cooked perfectly to order, juicy and well seasoned.

The steaks are very well seasoned and cooked really well! Unfortunately they ran out of the porterhouse we wanted and the Mac n cheese is really not worth the up charge. It looks and tastes like kraft. The ROLLS are to die for, paired with that cinnamon butter. YUM!! Service was pretty good, no complaints.

    Hand-Cut Sirloin*

I ordered a hand-cut sirloin medium rare and had to send it back three times (served medium, then medium well, then medium again). The manager was kind and tried to help, but unfortunately the kitchen couldn't execute a proper medium rare even after clarification. Disappointing experience overall.

Service was quick and tasty as always The music was really loud but it could have been me being tired after a long day

Yummers, I couldn't wait to eat their fresh rolls w/ cinnamon butter. The rolls were so scrumptious, soft, & hot! The cinnamon butter melted right on the hot rolls! I ordered the filet mignon medallions(medium rare) w/ smothered mushrooms, steamed veggies(carrots & broccoli), & Mac and cheese. The waitress was ok. I felt like she had a little bit of an attitude. I forgot her name unfortunately. My food came out in a bit. I remember the Mac & cheese being baked but I could be wrong. It was ok would have been better baked. My filet mignon was cooked perfectly to my liking! It was so flavorful. The smothered mushrooms were very flavorful! The veggies were kind of hard & didn't have enough flavor. I added black pepper to give it a better taste. The meal I ordered came w/ a pilaf of rice. I didn't really like or care for it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside was pretty busy & loud. There was music playing over the speakers which was cool![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This isn't my 1st rodeo I've been to this location numerous times! I'll be backkkk!

The food tonight is just fabulous. I got a 20oz rib eye with out of this world mushrooms, mashed with gravy and buttered corn. My friend got a 12oz prime rib and the same sides. Every item we ate was just delicious! The meat was cooked exactly as ordered, and the wait staff were very attentive and pleasant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We seated immediately even though the restaurant was crowded and it wasn't loud despite the crowd.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Just a wonderful experience!

My family loves stakes and ribs. These are not some of my favorite things. We went to Texas Roadhouse, where I knew my options of dishes not including the above mentioned would be limited. There was a short wait to get seated. When we arrived at our table, they already had their warm bread and the most delightful, cinnamon flavored butter. I'm not kidding, but I don't even care that nothing in their menu is for me, as long as I can have that bread and butter! I got the grilled shrimp and the fried pickles. The shrimp was pretty small, there were five of them on a stick. It was grilled and basic. This was ok! The fried pickles were a bit of a change from the fries. They were flavorful, crunchy and crispy. There was also corn and other sides that were sides of the stake. My family had a feast with all the meat. This is for sure not my favorite place to dine, but I made it work. I'm glad to say I'm the only one who didn't overeat at Texas Roadhouse.

Surprise, surprise ...who would think that the early dine special at Texas Roadhouse would actually be a fairly good experience. We ordered two sirloin steak dinners. They were each 6 ounces and probably a bit better than a hamburger. We missed ordering our filet mignon, but considering how poorly the last experience went, we thought we would try the early special this time. Just like the regular menu, it came with two sides. We had the salad, a potato and unlimited rolls. The restaurant was clean and well organized. Our server, Shannon did a great job. She was friendly, professional, and just a joy. She anticipated her customer's needs and was on top of her game. It was also interesting to see how many people took advantage of the early dine special. For the price, you really couldn't beat the value.

Overall, the food was really good and exactly what I'd expect from a family-owned Korean restaurant--comforting, flavorful, and made with care. The soft tofu soup was satisfying, the garlic fried chicken wings were crispy, and the seafood pancake had a great taste and texture with a nice crispness throughout. My only minor critique is that I wish there had been a bit more seafood in the pancake, but it was still very delicious overall. One thing that really stood out was the hospitality. They brought out a complimentary steamed egg dish for my daughter, which was incredibly thoughtful and much appreciated. Small gestures like that really make a difference. The atmosphere was comfortable, the service was warm and attentive, and the overall dining experience was excellent. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in the area!

Sandra's Next Generation has been my absolute staple in the community for over three decades…read more Sandra Pittman has been cooking in this same location since 1989, and I've been eating here consistently since 1995. It is, without question, the best soul food in the state. I have no problem running down I-91 from Hartford just to get my food because the quality and taste are on a level that nobody else can touch. Don't let the neighborhood fool you; this is a masterclass in authentic cooking. Sandra and her husband Miguel have been running this place for over 30 years, and that level of dedication shows in every single dish. The food has the kind of soul and precision that defines the elite dining scene in Connecticut. If you want the real deal--the standard that every other soul food spot is measured against--this is the only place to go. It's a class act that has stayed true to its roots for over 30 years.

So my visit here tonight has a story that would be a bit too long to include in a review, but what…read moreI will let you know here is that I first came across this business that literal day before the historic floods of August 18th, 2024 at a food truck festival in downtown New Haven. Ever since that day and the subsequent floods, I've been wanting to give SNG a proper visit and give a proper review. Fast forward to July 22, 2026 in Hartford and the walk I made to the ice cream right on the same street as the state capitol building. When I reviewed that place, I had to look back at my old reviews and found I had had those guys before at the Hartford Taste Festival of 2025. At that moment, something clicked. Didn't I first find about Sandra's this exact same way? I knew my job had a sponsor event the Saturday of that following week (now today). I came to a revelation. THIS was the night I had to go! I NEEDED to get to Sandra's and I needed to do this now! Upon arrival, the location is very unassuming. It has such a huge following, yet one can easily pass by this place if they don't know what they're looking for. Coming inside, I had found it to be a bit of a learning curve to even find a menu, let alone order. Turns out, you have to go outside and look at the menus outside to make a decision, something I am definitely not used to. Not a bad thing, but just something to keep in mind. After you order, you are given a number, and then you wait outside until they text you that your order is ready so you can go pay. What is a plus here is that I got my food in a considering less than the amount of time I was promised. It was maybe about 10 minutes after I ordered when it was ready when they I was told it would be ready in 20. Now, back at that fateful festival, I did have the fried chicken, the Mac and cheese, and candied yams. Now, let it be know that I NEVER eat yams. I just never felt the need to have those in my life. That being said, I do remember being pleasantly surprised by how they tasted. That night was a great lesson in getting through your dinner before going to have dessert in a way that it didn't feel like I had to have a parent tell me to do exactly that. I remember liking the dinner overall, but not being wowed enough to really give it 5 stars if it were a proper review. Maybe a 3.5 or 4. Tonight, the Mac and cheese makes its return, this time with string beans, blackened shrimp, and BBQ Pork Ribs. Oh, and I nabbed this neat container of fruit punch because it was so humid it was like Connecticut just moved South to Northern Florida. Yeah, we'll go with that. Between the 2 Mac and cheese's, I would say tonight's edition was better than what I had at the festival. The string beans are a good vegetable side that definitely has an authentic Southern taste to it. The blackened shrimp is on top of a small bed of brown rice and beans. You do need to take the tails off each the shrimp, but if you know how to eat shrimp, shouldn't be an issue whatsoever. The rice and beans are cooked pretty too might I add. And the ribs. Oh my GOD the ribs! Most times in CT you have to go to a true BBQ spot to get good ribs. But they did well with this rib. Fell off the bone, and the BBQ sauce had a nice kick to it without being overpowering. It didn't feel too skimpy like the ones I had from that Dominican spot I went to last week. The authentic, homemade soul food is worth the hype. Speaking of the hype... So when I first read reviews of Sandra's and ironed through who was reviewing this place, I did not have a good first impression. It was as if because of some of the people who rave about the food, they intimidated me away from making my visit here for a while without saying a word. What if I went, didn't have a good experience, leave a bad review, and then I end up summoning an angry mob chanting to have my head on a spike? It was a real thought that went my head at one point in time when thinking about going there. But still, I needed to come here, and now that I've been, I can say I'm glad that I did. Sandra's serves soul food that they have every right to be proud of. It's not a place I can come to often, but I would be happy to come here again to try more of their food items, especially now that my first memories of Sandra's are now completely behind me.
