We ordered a 12 ounce ribeye. It was tender and delicious. The salad was good and I always love the baked sweet potato. Between the good food and the wonderful wait staff, we had a lovely afternoon lunch. The price is comparable to places like The Place in Guilford where we ate two days ago! It's a totally different vibe because The Place is very casual, outdoor dining where you sit on stumps unless you bring your own chair or use one of their plastic chairs! Pretty average Texas Roadhouse. Nothing to write home about. It was super busy on a Friday night. I checked us in 40 minutes ahead for a table for 2 and didn't have to wait when I got there. We were seated in the bar area and ok service. We picked out the fattest bone-in ribeye they had from the pick your own steak area. We asked for medium-rare and it came out rare. My girlfriend only ate a small part of it that was medium and left the rest to me as I love rare...I was afraid if I sent it back they'd overcook it. We each got a house salad to go with it and split the steak because it was 30 oz. We got the bacon cheese fries as an appetizer and they were delicious. We asked for the blooming onion dipping sauce in addition to ranch. I would definitely eat here again. It was in a convenient location. The atmosphere is no different than any other TR. It's been a few years since I've been here, but it was the perfect spot to kill time on a Sunday afternoon while my car was being serviced across the plaza. Even though it was busy, we lucked out and snagged two seats at the bar. Service was awesome, the bartender brought out those soft, warm, fresh rolls immediately with whipped sweet cinnamon butter. We shared an appetizer combo and everything came out fast. I think we caught a happy hour special because our drinks were only $8.50 and the whole bill was just $35. Such a great value! Also, I noticed they swapped the floor peanuts for complimentary bags at the bar now. Definitely more sanitary! Such a wonderful experience we are from NY came over to see our daughter while she's at college. Our server was Tanya she had such cute hearts on her face was very warm and welcoming very attentive to detail love it! I was almost done with my drink and was gonna wait to ask her for an other one when she passed by and she beat me to it and was in route with our drinks excellent service . She gave us great suggestions of what we should order since we aren't from here and we loved every suggestion. Brian was our server today - outstanding service & a friendly employee. He is to be commended. The entire vibe is southern hospitality here, which makes for tough choices when ordering. Boneless ribs & steak are their staples, but don't sleep on their pulled pork sandwiches! Only drawback today was the strawberry cheesecake dessert was served frozen solid. Couldn't really enjoy it. (*shrugs*) Otherwise, as long as they are serving Angry Orchard, count me in. I considered this place tops for steaks until now. Now I've pretty much given up on that. The last 2 times that I have come here and ordered my favorite, which is filet mignon it has not been good. Apparently when you order a larger (10 oz.) steak they feel that it;s a good idea to put some sort of weight on it while it cooks, presumably to make it cook faster. It also flattens out the steak and makes it far less juicy. It doesn't even look like a filet any more. The pieces that I have gotten also had some gristle and fat which is not typical for this cut of meat. When I go to other restaurants there is no waste from my filet. I can no longer recommend this place as there are far better choices in the area. It's generally an extremely busy place and parking is difficult as well. read more

The steaks are very well seasoned and cooked really well! Unfortunately they ran out of the porterhouse we wanted and the Mac n cheese is really not worth the up charge. I enjoy going to this restaurant a few times a year. From the yeast rolls to the porterhouse steak everything is good and consistent. It can get pretty busy on the weekends. I learned to get on the waitlist online 30 minutes before arriving. I'm usually seated as soon as I pull up. Our favorite is the porterhouse steak. Twice I've had the server Liv. There was a short wait to get seated. When we arrived at our table, they already had their warm bread and the most delightful, cinnamon flavored butter. I'm not kidding, but I don't even care that nothing in their menu is for me, as long as I can have that bread and butter! I got the grilled shrimp and the fried pickles. The shrimp was pretty small, there were five of them on a stick. It was grilled and basic. This was ok! The fried pickles were a bit of a change from the fries. They were flavorful, crunchy and crispy. There was also corn and other sides that were sides of the stake. My family had a feast with all the meat. Surprise, surprise ...who would think that the early dine special at Texas Roadhouse would actually be a fairly good experience. We ordered two sirloin steak dinners. They were each 6 ounces and probably a bit better than a hamburger. We missed ordering our filet mignon, but considering how poorly the last experience went, we thought we would try the early special this time. Just like the regular menu, it came with two sides. We had the salad, a potato and unlimited rolls. The restaurant was clean and well organized. Our server, Shannon did a great job. She was friendly, professional, and just a joy. I've been told Texas several times over the years. But unfortunately the last 2 times my food was disappointing. I asked for a medium well the 1st time and it was well done and dry. My friend however asked for the same thing and received a medium rare. Go figure. She liked hers so she kept it. I sent mine back and I got a medium. So the next time we go back her and I both order medium. And once again mine was medium well very dry , but her steak was just right. Which is very confusing. I mean we're at the same table. Sent it back and when my steak came back it was so dry even the waiter was like wow...Completely well done it almost seemed deliberate! The only highlight of my experience was our waiter Johnathan he was great and tried everything to help the situation. And lastly, then there's the bathroom. There's only 3 stalls. We booked a reservation online and the estimated time was 15-25 minutes. We weren't even in the car 5 minutes before we got an alert our table was ready, went inside and were sat promptly. The place was packed! (Per usual) our server was attentive, and friendly. We went here for Sunday dinner. This place is hopping on a Sunday! We love that you can add your name to the wait list online. We get there, check in from the car and wait until we get a text, which is only a few minutes. Our waitress, KJ, was friendly and took our full order right away just because we already knew what we wanted and it was a busy night. She didn't write anything down but everything was correct! I was impressed. She did her best to be attentive. Food was good, as usual. My husband's steak was cooked correctly. We always leave full with left over tater skins and bread, of course. I would like to call this Interruptions: Interruption 1. I would like to start this by saying that I have frequented this establishment a fair amount of times, but this past Sunday I decided to visit it along with my daughter for an early dinner. Well they said it would be about 30 minutes, which was fine. We were called in about 20 minutes, we were seated and a young man came and introduced himself. We ordered our beverages, I had a strawberry lemonade and when I got it, it was as clear as water with a hint of pink (slight hint) and once I tasted it I asked if he could please remake it, which he did and this time it tasted like strawberry lemonade. Interruption 2. We ordered our steaks and potatoes, and along comes #2, a waitress was walking by with a tray, some how she drops a glass of sprite in our direction, it wets my daughter's pants her shoes, my legs and my shoes. They apologized and cleaned it up. During this time we were still waiting for our dinner. There were 2 tables empty behind us when we came in but by this time they had been filled, believe it or not they had their food. Interruption 3 By this time both parties at the other tables were eating, we were not. They finished and left and another couple came, order and was eating. We asked the waiter about our food, he said oh, I'm sorry I should have told you we are a little backed up because we are so busy. "Huh" Are we being "Punked" Sir can you please check on our food. Texas Roadhouse is very popular. This one in West Haven is no exception. Fun western ambiance with a lively bar area. Service is friendly and often attentive. Signature dinner rolls with cinnamon butter are addictive. The restaurant always seems to be packed. Just know that no matter what you order you are not going there to watch your calories!! Our food, with exception of the chili and side of green beans (both good), was poor to below average. The chili was good but barely warm. The ribs were obviously reheated, lukewarm, and really dry without much flavor. We had to ask for BBQ sauce and used it to cover up as much of the bland dryness as we could. There's a big sign that advertises the ribs won first place in some contest in Texas. It wasn't these. The chicken fried chicken with cream gravy was also disappointing. Very thin chicken breast that tasted like a big chicken McNugget. A bust. They do have a nice way for you to pay at your table with a device. It was very convenient but the biggest problem I have is they apply your tip to the meal AND the sales tax. Frankly, that is ripping people off. There should not be any Tip applied to a government sales tax. Texas roadhouse management should be correcting this immediately, but since they make a point of saying that's what they're doing on the device my guess is they won't bother. No restaurant should do this. My recommendation is for customers to reduce there tip accordingly so it gets as close to a deserved service tip on just the food and drinks. read more
