Found this local gem while in town visiting family. It seems to be a neighborhood favorite, and I can see why. Parking is available behind the restaurant, and the wait staff were friendly and attentive. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. Must-haves: - Prime rib: Tender, cooked perfectly medium rare as ordered. 5/5 - French onion soup: Forgot to take a picture, but it was the star of the meal. Rich, flavorful, and comforting. 10/5 - Fried calamari (NY style): The marinara dip had garlic and hot peppers. It wasn't spicy (to us), but added a nice kick. The calamari itself was crispy and well done. 5/5 - Fries: Shoestring style, crispy, and just right. 5/5 What to skip: - Their pasta dishes. The chicken parm with linguini came in a very generous portion, but the sauce was watered down, the flavor lacking, and the chicken cutlets were dry and soggy. 3/5 - Seafood pasta (not pictured): Same issue with the sauce - bland and watered down. Very cute, cozy and festive inside for the holidays. The service was fast and friendly! Our server was efficient and checked on us without coming around too often. Burgers were very tasty but mine was just extremely extremely greasy. Had to sop up grease off the bun. However, I still really enjoyed it and it hit the spot. Me and my friends love this place. It's like the hidden gem of the area. We are always welcomed in by either the bartender and/ or waitresses and seated very quickly. Once you've perused the menu, youI'll see the prices are beyond a great deal, literally I can say it's pre-pandemic pricing. I love a great deal, it gives you that feeling of great value. All entrees except for sandwiches, come with soup or salad. They have their normal large portion meals, and smaller portion meals which make for an even better deal as well and you'll get more than your money is worth. I've gotten the prime rib and ribeye here. Both are great choices and were cooked to my desired temp of medium rare. Very flavorful and fatty which I love. The ambiance here is like your local neighborhood Applebees, except brighter, with fresher food that is mostly not made from frozen, workers here are very friendly. The decor here is wood tavern I'd say. Overall it's been a very great experience and we will definitely be back for more. Thank you, 744! Yesterday my family and I came after our great uncle's funeral because it was his favorite bar. We didn't call ahead or give notice - just 25+ members of my family showed up and flooded the bar area and outdoor patio. THEY DID AMAZING. I cannot say thank you enough. Josh immediately sprung into action. He was kind, he was attentive, he was fast and most of all he was compassionate to the situation. There also was another lady that came to help him, and she was amazing as well! I didn't get her name, but she was also great and I want to say thank you to her as well! The drinks here were exceptional. Everyone said they like their drinks and my favorite was the Senorita. The food was amazing also! The buffalo shrimp were at 10/10, the Calamari was good, and the wings were fried perfectly! My family and were very pleased with our experience! What a great place, a busy one too!! This restaurant is on the Post Rd in West Haven. We sat at the bar since the restaurant was pretty packed. I started with a French Martini. Many places don't offer these but it's one of my favorites! Bartender made it perfectly. They have a small plates menu which I have posted. You get a salad and entree for $13.99!!! You get plenty of food. I got the Chicken Francese with mashed potatoes. The chicken melted in my mouth & was full of flavor! I love me some mashed potatoes! I hate making them but happy to order them when out. After dinner I had a Downeast hard cider. It was a great night, service was great. I will definitely go back! read more

Came back here twice in the past week because everything was so good! They always greet you with a hot out-of the-oven loaf of bread with their own garlic butter. Started with their delicious fried calamari. Lightly fried & melted in your mouth. Their homemade soups are so flavorful. I tried both their pasta fagioli & potato leek. My Mother had the shrimp Parmesan on special with veggies instead of pasta. She loved the big serving of yellow squash & zucchini they served! She said the shrimp was delicious & she ate the whole thing! My husband ordered the salmon oreganato which was out of this world good, with a baked potato. This was off their regular dinner menu & came with (2) salmon fillets about 6oz each! Very large portion, he took one home! I had the shrimp & scallop scampi over linguine that was very good. Also a large portion with leftovers for the next day! We were too full for dessert but they did offer an Oreo cake, chocolate lava cake or cannolis. Great, friendly service. They always openly appreciate your business here. Their menu is so big, with so many options. I had their 16oz prime rib with baked potato the other night. It was perfectly cooked & again, had enough leftover for another meal! Dinners are under $20, include soup or salad, bread, potato or vegetables, with enough for leftovers. Last time I came here I remember it to be amazing since my friend said it's great. I think I got some sort of seafood pasta. That was maybe 5 years ago tho. Came here a few weeks ago and got the lobster roll and it was not good. Fries were pretty good, but not a lot of lobster and it just didn't taste very fresh. Maybe frozen lobster meat I don't know. My friend and I came on a Monday night. There seemed to be just one waitress for the whole main dining area, and it was a little painful to watch her try to get the constant stream of folks seated. It took a strangely long time to get our sandwiches or extra napkins. (Wait, we never got those napkins.) I'm keeping the review at 3 stars because some of the food was quite good. I haven't had a table-side bread that was this scrumptious. It's essentially the loaves they use for the huge sandwiches plus garlic butter. You're basically making your own garlic bread at the table. I could probably just eat their bread and be happy. Their hot bourbon molasses wings were also a notch above average. A bit messy but worth it. Our sandwiches were more of a disappointment. They were kind of bland. The chicken chipotle wrap, while it had some kick because of the sauce, was otherwise pretty tasteless and could have used more interesting textures. My friend's caprese was doused in balsamic, and the cheese could have been warmer or melted. Not sure I'd come back - or if I do, I'd definitely skip the sandwiches. read more

This has always been one of my favorite places. Always get the 16oz prime rib. We went a few months back ordered the usual. When it came out it was the petite cut at best. I showed the waitress and she said yes it does look like the petite cut. The thickness was about 3/8" on one end and maybe 1/2" on the other. She came back and said the chef said they hand cut and weight them and it was definitely 16oz and that's what I was charged for. Like I said I get these all the time there. so I wasn't going back. Well I decided to give a second chance. This time it was just the center and the outer strip although a little bit thicker. My wife saw it giggled and said guess we're not coming back. I hadn't been here in years but it's as good as ever. Although the exterior hasn't been updated in years and it doesn't do the place justice, the interior is really comfortable and welcoming. The sweet potato fries were among the best I've had. The meals came with soup or salad and we ordered one of each. My food went for a swim... I've never seen chicken swimming until now. So apparently this place does not do well with large parties. If this had been my first time here, I would have given 1 star and never returned. The apps were good. Fried Provolone was great; It was an delicious, elevated twist on the classic fried mozz. The salad was good as well, but the some of the entrees... disappointing. The chicken cordon Bleu was sloppy and swimming in a plate of white wine broth(it wad too watery to be called a sauce.) The steak was wading in the au jus. Didn't know steak soup was on the menu. And the Mahi special was horrible. Maybe they wanted the fish, which wasn't even Mahi, to feel right @ home by leaving a lake of 'sauce' on the bottom of the plate. Or maybe it was to soften the under-cooked rice. But it didn't help the overcooked fish. But it doesn't matter because it was all overpowered by the overwhelming flavor of the marinated artichokes. So why 3 stars? They have wonderful staff, with amazing customer service skills. And Up until this day, they have consistently food! They just can't handle large dinner parties. read more
