Stowe's Seafood in West Haven is a true Connecticut gem! The location is hard to beat--right across the street from the beach with a dock you can stroll out on while enjoying the ocean views. The gumbo special was delicious with just the right kick of spice. The lobster roll was generously filled with sweet, tender claw and knuckle meat, and the squeeze of fresh lemon really brightened the flavor and made every bite even better. Pair it all with a Foxon Park soda, and you've got the ultimate Connecticut seafood experience. Great food, a fantastic location, and plenty of local charm. We'll definitely be back!

We drove an hour to bring relatives here because it was so good the last couple times. But somehow the seafood quality already changed. .. maybe different chef ? The new England chowder was water down, even taste a bit sour...(That's strange for clam chowder).. someone dropped a lemon by mistake? .. Fried scallops and fried clam strip no longer taste the same, not as fresh and sweet. Scallops texture is kinda hard to describe but different. .. Fried fish batter was too thick and fish is very dry and bland this time We also has lobster roll it's just ok.... At the end we didn't want to eat anymore Last time when i order, i order everything individually...this time i kept being told combo is $1 different and you get all fries to come with. Don't try the bathroom out there, not very nice. We didn't eat all the food and relatives are not happy with the meal ... So after sharing the feedback they kindly gave us a seafood chowder (thank you)..... The soup is creamy and better than the clam chowder although the seafood is overcooked. We missed the good version clam chowder here ... We are just very disappointed about the change of quality although i understand it's hard to keep the consistency.

After a spending most of the day walking around New Haven I decided I wanted to have a lobster roll. Some quick Googles led me to Stowe's. It's situated right across from the beach and they have their own parking lot which is always a plus. It's got a pirate theme going on and there's pirate-related decor all over the place. Definitely feels like a hole in the wall. I went around 5PM and the place was pretty busy. Plenty of patrons eating outside and a bunch more waiting to take their orders to-go. Actually, technically every order is a to-go order. You go up to the counter and order what you want and they give you a buzzer that lets you know when your food is ready. Whether you choose to sit at the tables outside is up to you. But everything comes packaged in takeout containers. Service was quick and friendly. CASH ONLY. They do have an ATM though. I ordered a lobster roll, soft shell crab sandwich, clam chowder, and lobster bisque. Everything was pretty good but the sandwiches were a bit pricey. On the menu they're listed as market price and apparently lobster rolls were $22 and soft shell crab sandwiches were $17 that day. We had the soups first since they were ready immediately. The lobster bisque was ok, but a bit too creamy for my taste. I found myself tiring of the taste after several spoonfuls. I much preferred the clam chowder. It had a great consistency and it was served at a perfect temperature. The flavor was on point as well. I really enjoyed the clam chowder. The lobster roll was good, but not great. To be fair, I'm not a huge fan of lobster so take my opinion with a grain of salt. The lobster was fresh, but I found it to be a little bland. I got the sauteed roll, maybe I should've tried the fried. I really liked the soft shell crab sandwich. It literally looked like they took a whole crab and deep fried it then put it in a bun. It worked though. I especially liked it with the tartar sauce. If you're a fan of seafood, you'll like this place.

I see the delivery truck from Ipswich all week and knew that everything would be fresh. Loved the scallops. Fries are delicious. Tacos were dry. Needed a sauce, aioli, or bigger fish pieces to not dry out. The combo of spinach, apple and pineapple didn't work well in my opinion. Would return to try other items! Great seafood spot.

What would Sunday along the shore be without a lobster roll and onion rings? The food was superb and the ambience of eating outdoors with the fresh salty air is the reason why summer is definitely my favorite season!

Tried to come once before with my daughter but it was closed so I was so happy this time that it was open. We arrived at just the right time. The place filled up as soon as our food got done. The service was at the indoor counter where you placed your order, paid (cash only / ATM on premises) and received a device that made noise to let you know your order was ready to pick up and to go pick it up. The portion sizes weren't huge but the pieces of what we ordered were!! Perfectly prepared and wonderful flavor. It was extremely hot but we chose to sit outside under one of the nice shady umbrella tables. The breeze coming off the water almost made us cold. Which was surprising seeing as there was a heat warning in effect. So if you are looking for fine dining this is not the place. But if you are looking for good food, salt water smells coming from the water and wind to cool you down then this is your place. Looking forward to going back And trying more menu items

First it's cash only! That's important to know they have an ATM but it was out of service. With that being said I has a lobster roll and it was the most delicious thing I've ever tasted. All the food is basically prepared to go there are tables you can eat at that are both covered and outside. It's clearly a local favorite people were coming in and out. There is limited parking. The line moved quickly everyone was friendly and I would go back again and again even though I'm from 8 hours away! I took my food to the beach and ate while enjoying the view!

We came here to try their lobster rolls. They do not have any seating inside but lots of outdoor seating. You order inside and they will let you know when your order is ready. We got 2 lobster rolls, a stuffed clam, Mac n cheese bites, and some fries. For how talked about they are, the lobster rolls were not worth the price for us. The meat wasn't too flavorful or tender. The bread it came in wasn't great either. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it. The other items were just fine. We were a bit disappointed but had also heard good things about the clam strip sandwich so we got an order of that to split. These were great! A mountain of crispy clam strips with some sauce really hit the spot. Overall, I'd recommend coming here for the clam strip sandwich and the seaside vibes but would maybe skip the lobster roll.

Great seafood spot across from the beach. Today I had a clam strip roll. It was freshly cooked and delicious. In addition to sandwiches, soups and seafood platters, they have a smallish case of fish items you can purchase to cook at home. Just keep in mind this place is cash only.

Unmatched lobster rolls and fried scallops. Friendly staff. By the beach, great to walk around after a hefty meal.

Found this while looking up food places to eat. We ordered the treasure chest which was 50.00 now wait till you see the pic!!! It was definitely fried came with fries and coleslaw. Shrimp, scallops, crab cake , sole, haddock fish, clams. It was really good. Supposedly it feeds 2-4 peeps depending on ur hunger, well we were hungry!! Had a little left over. The fries were home cut and flavorful, the coke slaw was perfect, shrimp and scallops to perfection, the sole was very flaky, hallock was ok to me , but way too much clams. They give you all the fixings with it as well, Also tried the clam chowder. You know it's fresh when you get a little sand in ur soup!! It was good but a little too thin for me, but I enjoyed it!! It's a definite try if in the New Haven area. Looks like a dive , but I've had some of my best food in a dive place.

Beachy fish shack that serves seafood right by the ocean. I love the outdoor tables with umbrellas - we stopped by on a summer morning and the sea breeze was so nice. We ordered the boat with cod and a cup of clam chowder. The boat is huge!! Definitely enough for two to share. The breading/cod were pretty bland (which was such a let down since it looked and smelled so good!) but tasted a lot better with some salt. The coleslaw was great. I liked the clam chowder as well - its a little thinner than classic New England but thicker than Rhode Island. It comes with large chunks of potato and lots of clams. Definitely would come back for a meal and honestly just to enjoy their outdoor space/proximity to the beach. Just note that they're cash only and there's no indoor seating!

I came on a Wednesday for the $17.99 lobster roll special and it was easily one of the best I've ever had. It is a quarter pound of lobster and you get actual lumps of claw and meat rather than the shredded stuff some other places serve. The butter it's sautéed in is seasoned delicately to accentuate the fresh lobster instead of covering up the taste. The portion was surprisingly large and it comes on a fresh bun that is lightly buttered and toasted. It even comes with a little cup of extra butter which I totally slathered on because I love butter! Every bite was so fresh and soft. The roll comes with fries and I did the optional $5 upcharge for the lobster bisque. That was also the best I've ever had because I've never seen bisque with such large chunks of lobster in it. It was just crazy good. Everything was well worth the price and I'd honestly come back even on days when it's not a special. They have something going on every night like the $9.99 burger and fries on Mondays, so that will definitely be my next reason to visit. I will be back for sure!

The ordering system uses tablets at the table, and because of how busy it was, a few of my orders didn't go through the first time. The view from the deck was also excellent, and the cocktails themselves were delicious. A lot of the appetizers were very good. The tuna tartare and the mussel curry were both inspired dishes; the mussels in the sauce had great flavor, though the portion sizes overall felt small. The blistered snap peas with preserved lemon were also delicious. That said, for a place with "oyster" in the name, we expected a wider or higher-quality selection, perhaps including some from Canada, rather than the fairly standard options from CT and MA. Unfortunately, the main dishes missed the mark for us and didn't offer enough food. The sea bass was overcooked. the accompanying lima beans weren't cooked all the way through, and the dish lacked depth of flavor. The shrimp main also fell short, with the shrimp having a very odd, mushy bland flavor. To finish, the pot de crème had so much cream and so little actual chocolate that there was almost no chocolate flavor. On a separate note, navigating the QR code menu was pretty obnoxious. Restaurants should really just offer traditional paper menus; people stare at screens all day and come out to engage with each other, not look at a phone again, and constantly have it on the table. While I appreciate Fair Haven Oyster's creative concepts, their tinned fish with pickled sides, and their great starters, the execution on the mains and the portion sizes left something to be desired, especially at these price points. This was probably our sixth time going to Fairhaven Oyster. We've been going over the past few years and my overall takeaway is that I will definitely return for the drinks, the great atmosphere, and some appetizers, but will not be ordering mains.
