Solid 3 stars I love that they've been here forever. There's an awesome black and white photo of their original stand. Fish is fresh. Coleslaw was good. Baked potato and sweet potato fries very good. Prices are mid-twenties for most seafood plates. Why not 4 stars? I think it's the no frills dining room, no frills plating and no frills service. I just couldn't give a 4th star.

Turk's Seafood Restaurant is a family-owned seafood restaurant that opened in West Haven, Connecticut in 1939. From the 1870s to 1966, West Haven's shoreline was home to Savin Rock Amusement Park. Often referred to as "Connecticut's Coney Island", the entire Savin Rock area became well-known as a summer resort community complete with amusement rides, hotels, gardens, a fountain, a bandstand, a zoo, horse races, a movie theater, trolley tracks, and plenty of seafood and hotdog restaurants. One of the original seafood restaurants to open during the glory days of Savin Rock was Turk's. Since 1939, they have continuously been serving up fresh seafood dishes, crinkle cut French fries, onion rings, hamburgers, and split hotdogs (locally produced by Hummel Brothers Quality Meat Products in New Haven). Legend has it that 'split frankfurters' were invented at nearby Jimmie's Restaurant because they cooked faster and could quickly be given to trolley passengers who wanted to grab a quick bite before the trolley departed. Various accidental fires, the Great Hurricane of 1938, and the economic and residential development of the 1960s were what caused the decline and closure of Savin Rock. Although the amusements and most of the old restaurants are long gone, Turk's is still serving up quality food all these years later. Since I work in West Haven, I have eaten at Turk's a number of times over the years. I recently stopped in with some co-workers during our lunch break. One of my co-workers ordered a classic split Hummel Hotdog while the other ordered a Grilled Cheese with Tomato and a side of Crinkle Cut Fries. For myself, I went with Fried Clam Strips with a side of Crinkle Cut Fries. They really hit the spot. If you're looking for a nostalgic seafood restaurant experience then look no further than Turk's!

Went here for the first time Sunday evening. I had the fish and chips with sweet potato fries. It looked a bit different than I'm used to, it was chunks of fish instead of full pieces. It was really good and fresh with a lighter but nice tasting batter. The fries were good too and the meal was a good portion. Prices are about typical I'd say. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The place looks a bit worn but not terribly so. Inside is very clean. Parking looks pretty ample. Great setting, right across from the beach. Well worth checking out.

On a beautiful sunny 60° day there was only one place to go for lunch along the beach. I chose this place because as a teenager, I remembered a Seafood Restaurant which was a consistent, fresh and great place to have scallops and onion rings! Just out of nostalgia, I decided to take a walk back in time and try Turks for lunch. I even recognized one of the original waitresses there who is still at the top of her game. Turks has been in operation since 1939 and owned by the Ramadan brothers. Our seafood was exceptionally fresh and made to order. At the location on 425 Captain Thomas Blvd. in West Haven you can take a your senses back in time. Check out the beautiful picture of the original building just for fun! Their food is as good as ever and in my opinion much better than their competition!

I went to the self service side and ordered a lobster roll for lunch. The lady behind the counter was nice, the lobster roll is just some lobster meat in a hot dog bun with some hot butter on the side...LOL too easy to make.

Lots of reviewers here criticizing the decor, but they must have renovated, because it was quite charming. The service workers were friendly. The food was somewhat overpriced. I had a fried soft-shell crab, which was about $15, and my wife has the "Skipper's Sea Food Combination," which was a plate of fried clams, shrimp, scallops and cod which came with fries and coleslaw, for about $32. The portions were plentiful and the food ready in about 10 minutes. My biggest criticism is that the batter was not seasoned at all, even with salt. It was just a bland breading. Cute place, close to the water. We'll probably go back.

I attended Turk's this past week. I no longer live in West Haven but grew up there. Turk's was a place we used to frequent when I was a child. I ordered the fried shrimp dinner and it was pretty good. I prefer the original badder but it was good. My brother ordered a hot dog which looked great and I also had their lobster bisque which was out of this world! It was creamy and had lobster meat. Loved every bite. Rest rooms were clean and the staff was very friendly! Way to go Turk's!!

Wonderful Staff, Great Authentic Food, many dishes to choose from, something for everyone, reasonable prices, a staple in West Haven.

Mike's Italian Deli & Grill - Very nice salad!!

"Spread your wings for New Orleans Kentucky bluebird, fly…read moreaway And take a message to Michael" (Dionne Warwick) Quite a few of Mike's Yelp reviews mention their fantastic customer service, and that claim was proven the minute we crossed the threshold into their deli. We were greeted by a big smiling face that seemed genuinely happy to see us, and made us feel at ease as if we were long lost relatives. What a welcoming experience for our first time here. Mike's is an old school Italian deli, with quite a few breakfast specials that are incredibly priced. For example, how about an egg on a roll for $3.25 or hash browns for a buck? Hell, the most expensive breakfast item on their entire menu is $9.50 for three eggs, home fries, toast and breakfast meat! After breakfast, you can function on lunch because Mike's offers plenty of hot and cold sandwiches, hot and cold sides, paninis, salads, soups and Italian lunches and dinners. The most expensive thing on the entire menu is a Chicken Parmigiano dinner for $15.95. We ordered some food to go, and we walked out with a bag and box of food for $34.24 after tax. Our order included a Ham and Cheese on a roll ($9.25), Ziti with Chicken Parmigiano Lunch ($10.95), fresh Garden Salad ($9.95), and two chocolate chip cookies ($2). As we were waiting for the food, we witnessed a parade of lunch customers coming in for their to-go orders. Many of the customers were obvious regulars and they were addressed by name by the staff. That was pretty cool to see. We split the sandwich for lunch, and it was a very good sandwich with plenty of high-quality deli ham and cheese, fresh lettuce and tomatoes and onions, and a very fresh hard roll. For dinner, we attacked the salad, chicken parm and ziti, and a hunk of fresh buttered Italian bread that came with the chicken and ziti. The salad was excellent, with plenty of fresh lettuce, grape tomatoes, halved cucumber slices, black olives, and cheddar cheese shreds. The chicken parm/ziti lunch was a pretty good portion that we easily split. Ziti, sauce, cubed breaded chicken cutlets, all with a blanket of marinara sauce and cheese. We had it for dinner and it was very good, as was the Italian bread that came with it. The proverbial icing on the cake wasn't a cake at all, but two chocolate chip cookies, made fresh every morning by Mike himself. What a sweet way to finish off our wonderful experience with Mike's Italian Deli & Grill. This was an easy FIVE STAR review for customer service, value, variety, and product quality.

The place had a few people in, but I was quickly helped! I placed an order initially for the chicken, broccoli, rabe, but they were out of some ingredients (which makes sense, looks like they were processing some large orders) so I instead opted for a chicken bomb, one of their hot sandwiches. I went for a sub (over a roll) and got a drink, my total came out to around $22. I grabbed my drink from the side fridge, and was told it would take a few minutes. There are a few tables and a TV playing, so a nice place to wait, and eat if you're in a hurry. There are also several tables outside which would be nice to eat at in the warmer months. Quickly, my sandwich was ready and warm! The person working gave me a bag which she had added napkins to. The sandwich was significantly bigger than expected. Honestly for me, two meals but easily could have been three. Generous with portions of everything too. I will definitely be back to try more of their sandwiches and their pizzas!

The market carries a variety of products including olive oils, canned tomatoes, antipasto specialties, pasta, and various Italian imports. However, they really shine when it comes to their prepared foods. The market makes a number of dishes in house which include fresh bread, deli sandwiches, hot Italian sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads, pasta dishes, stuffed breads, calzones, and even New Haven-style pizza! Del Monaco's also offers catering services. I recently stopped at Del Monaco's for lunch. I had been there once before and I remember that their sandwiches were pretty good. I haven't been back in a while because they have VERY limited hours: only Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 am until 3 pm. I happened to have a day off from work, so I was able to get to the market in the early afternoon. I ordered their "Chicken Cutlet & Broccoli Rabe" sub on fresh Italian bread with melted mozzarella. It was phenomenal! I decided to make the most of my visit and ordered a large "Mozzarella Pizza" to bring home for my family for dinner. Not long after ordering the pizza, I overheard a staff member yell out, "No more pizza orders." They had run out of dough for the day, and I got my pizza order in just in time. My family and I were also planning on going to the beach the following day, so I decided to order a couple of more deli sandwiches to bring along. I ordered an "Italian Dream" (prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, roasted pepper, Stella table cheese) for myself and an "Italian Combo" (ham, salami, pepperoni, provolone) for my wife. My family and I all enjoyed the pizza later that day for dinner, and my wife and I loved the sandwiches at our beach trip the following day. There aren't too many Italian markets like this left. Del Monaco's is a real gem and I highly recommend stopping by for one of their delicious Italian sandwiches or a tasty pizza pie.
