Went two nights in a row. The first night was great! The bartender was very personable and knowledgable and made great recommendations like the pork reuben which was fantastic. The second night was pretty bad. We ordered the Greek pizza. It did not come out as ordered. I pointed that out to the server and was charged for upgrade anyway. It was very dry so I asked for something to dip it in like their white sauce or something and she brought a cold butter mix of some kind that was also bad and we had to pay extra for that as well. Long story short, sit at the bar.

Swapped out the normal bun for a jalapeño cheddar option, went for sweet potato fries, and it was a winner. The fries came with catchup and a chipotle aioli that would be equally awesome on the burger. The stuff is delicious. Our waiter, Max, could not have been any friendlier or attentive. If the entire crew is as good as him, they are pretty lucky! Cool ambiance, nice crowd, festive, just a winner of a spot. The wife got fish and chips and we split the cast iron pecan pie. All were top notch.

There's inside and outside seating as well as bar. You enter and they hand you the menus. Despite the red neon order here sign right next to the entrance counter, it's not readily apparent that you do indeed order there. And I noticed it wasn't just us waiting for someone to come take our order as we waited. You seat yourself so unless they tell you directly to order at the counter you could miss it. So when the red neon sign finally clicked in my head, I went over to order. But while I was ordering two more parties came up and asked if they needed to order there. So maybe some more clarity up front outside the sign haha I ordered the Cali burger, my son had a burger, and they had a fajita special that his mom ordered. We also ordered a pretzel. Obviously being a pub they had beers. Non/alcoholic was a limited assorted of coke fair. Only unsweetened tea. No lemonade. Pretzel was soft and delicious. My son's mom loved the fajitas and the beans that came with them. The burgers were also really good. Bread nice and soft. Patties a good thickness. We all enjoyed what we had. No fries though. You get chips for your potato fix. The staff was also very friendly. It wasn't too loud in there and we were able to talk easily. If you're hungry don't pass them by.

Several of the brews on our flights--including the Hefe, Doublebock, Lager, Kolsch, and Amber--were authentic representations of their traditional German counterparts, bringing true-to-style flavors right to Texas. The food was equally impressive and provided the perfect complement to the drinks. The Artisan Sausage Plate featured an excellent selection of brats paired beautifully with German kraut, onion strings, and a delicious mustard cream sauce. For the main course, the Jägerschnitzel was spectacular--the parmesan-crusted pork ribeye was tender, and the mushroom cream sauce over buttery Yukon Gold mashed potatoes was rich and comforting. We wrapped up the meal with the Apfelstrudel Tatin. The combination of the flaky croissant crust, caramelized apples, creme anglaise, and Chantilly cream was the perfect sweet finish. With great drinks, excellent food, and a beautiful property, Altstadt is a must-visit. We will definitely be back!

When we were poking around looking for breweries in the area on Yelp we came across The Shady Llama! This place doesn't make their own beer but they have lots of guest taps for breweries in the surrounding area. It's a good variety of beers to choose from and it looks like there is at least one food truck available sometimes in case you get hungry. The main draw for why we came here was to see the llamas and indeed we dis see some. One of them gave us some attitude and then sauntered off down a hill, taking it's less moody companion with it. They were funny and with the attitude I got and the name of the place I posted the Eminem song "My Name Is" where the lyrics "Slim Shady" get mentioned on Instagram because I thought it was all quite fitting. In addition to seeing the llamas we saw a great view of Hill Country. There was a lot of seating when we were here and could pick pretty much anywhere we wanted to sit. But I'm sure the place can get busy... the location and those llamas are reason enough. Cold beer, moody llamas and beautiful Hill Country... definitely worth the stop!
