Ashton, our guide, was great. She shared little anecdotes about the area, asked small talk questions about us (where we're from, grades the kids are in, sports they play, etc.), and just made the float a great experience. (She's got a great energy!) Since most of our party of 5 cannot swim, we chose the scenic experience instead of white water. There was one tiny section that was a "sampler" of the white water experience. It wasn't wild by any means, but that was enough to get the kids excited about the prospect of doing a white water experience in the future.

It was chill enough for them to enjoy the ride. Just make sure to pack water for them since there is no shade on the river. It was an easy ride to the lot where the crew was already waiting to take us to the launch point. It was an epic 3 hours with stunning views, interesting stories and wildlife spotting (mostly bald eagles). Plus you can bring your own...ahem..refreshments. At the end of the float, the van was already waiting for us and we were back on our way quickly. The logistics were flawless. We decided to beat the crowd and arrived in time for one of the first boats that leaves the landing…read moreat 7 AM. Bring your parking pass if you have it otherwise there will be a charge just to access the area. Once you arrive at the boat landing, parking is free. From there you can either hike a portion of the lake and take the boat back, simply do a hike, or take a boat ride/hike, or just ride the boat! There is a charge for riding the boat with discounts available for kids and seniors. There are only facilities at the boat landing and once you leave you're on your own! You're constantly reminded that you are in bear country so bring some spray, bug repellent, sunscreen, plenty of water and snacks, as there are no amenities in the wilderness areas. Hikes and climbing opportunities exist however, for the more advanced area permits may be required so check before you leave with Park Rangers. We were very happy to have started early as when we returned by noon the landing was exceptionally crowded, and parking was nonexistent. There is shopping, some concessions, and beautiful area to explore just around the boat landing area. This is a fantastic stop, but again emphasize. Be here early!

He was informative and the boat held some great discussions throughout the trip, which makes it more enjoyable. I was imagining more rapids, but there was a lot more slow parts of the river. The big Kahuna was the one rapid that managed to get everyone except our guide wet. They were taking pictures there which you can purchase online or go to their shop and buy them for 20% off. We even thread the needle towards the end between a couple large rocks. It's worth doing a small 8 person boat. I'd even go in May or June to get more rapids because going at the beginning of August the water flow slows way down losing some of the rapids. They do offer water jackets you can put on under the life vest when you get there. The water was cool but not cold enough to need a wetsuit in August unless you can't handle cool temps. They do offer all that when you Check-in to rent too. If you have young kid, 4th grade or older they let them sit at the head of the boat. They have to be strong enough to hold on going over the rapids.
